Verizon E4 new System Update NDQS26.69-64-11-5 - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

This update has been nagging me for a week now. Any experience after taking this update? My Verizon E4 is unlocked and using with non-Verizon GSM carrier.

Spouse took update on an unlocked XT1767 a few days back; no issues. But that pup is associated with Verizon post paid service via sim ported from another device on the same account. Can't speak to GSM implications but should continue to work unless VZW soft-disabled selected bands.

It is working good as same as before I took the OTA on T-Mobile.

Verizon phones are usually carrier unlocked. Although this is about to change due to fraudulent purchases.

Well, my E4 was bought prepaid and it was locked to Verizon. I have to pay someone on eBay to have it unlocked. Newer Verizon E4 cannot even be unlocked that way. So I think is entirely to do with postpaid phones. Prepaid phones from Verizon are locked regardless.

anyone success unlock with that apps?
Every US carrier should be selling the Moto X unlocked to start with; not sure about overseas (where it's sold). That's a pretty suspicious feedback pattern.
This is garbage, not free, just pay for it, did mine on cellunlocker.com for $7.99, fair price and cheap...imho
I wonder if it is possible to unlock Sprint Moto X to use on AT&T or T-Mobile

Many of VZW's GSM capable/world phones are unlocked on the GSM side.

Yes. The VZW Moto X is capable of pentaband GSM with speeds up to HSDPA 42 - or 42 Mbps. Just no LTE outside of Verizon (well, I think it supports one of the T-Mobile bands).

Does the unlocked or at&t priv variants work on Verizon?

Just curious if any of you know if the unlocked or at&t version of the priv has the cdma radios to run on Verizon. I've been seeing the unlocked and at&t versions around $300 but the Verizon version is still like $500 and totally not worth it since I'd be paying a $250 premium on my nexus 6 for a phone with the only real updrade being a slideout keyboard.
No. The Verizon Priv has the Radios for it's Verizon service ontop of the Global GSM ones for other GSM Carriers Worldwide. The Unlocked GSM Priv either physically is missing them or its disabled by software at the Request of Verizon. If it's disabled there is a chance it could be enabled if the Priv ever does get rooted, something that Won't happen else it tarnishes BB's image, or BB enables it. And that's if its there. But it most likely isn't as the Only Major Carriers that use CDMA are Verizon and Sprint.

Does this mean that an unlocked VZW Priv would run correctly with an AT&T sim? 4g LTE?

Consumer Cellular - Moto G4 Play - XT1607 - $99

Posting this as a heads-up for anyone looking for a fairly inexpensive Moto G4 Play.
Target carries the Consumer Cellular variant of the Moto G4 Play; XT1607 for $99.99.
It can be SIM unlocked for a couple dollars on eBay and bootloader unlocked through Motorola.
NOTE: 15% off from now until end of Monday, November 28 @ Target.com

This is confirmed XT1607 model? I don't want to buy then find out its XT1609.
:crying:
Yes, it is XT1607.
It is listed underneath the battery on the IMEI/Serial Number sticker and once you navigate into the bootloader.
I will post pictures later in the day.

I just put my buddies sim from metro PCS in it worked for one call and then stopped working. I'm betting it's more metro than anything, when he got an unlocked phone it wouldn't work till he called them and gave the imei number. You might not have to sim unlock with this bad boy I have a feeling it already is being that there's no x1607 unlock auctions out there, just the Verizon variant

Since you have one and were considering it for RingPlus, did you check the MEID on R+ device checker - https://my.ringplus.net/device_validation_requests/new
Someone checked on Slickdeals for R+ and Ting and it was not eligible (Ting said GSM, but not CDMA).
So these may not be in Sprint's whitelist database. And if they're not, you won't be able to activate on Sprint or a Sprint MVNO.
Got this CC Moto G4 Play Target deal $85, thinking save alittle cash. However, I think its time to rebox and return now as it really doesn't appear that it will ever work on Sprint MVNOs, despite having the right radio. I tried RingPlus checker and it fails; I guess its not on the Sprint whitelist. I bought an Unlocked XT1607 from Frys BF deal $109 and it passes RP checker as expected. So, for $25 less, you can get this CC XT1607 working on 3 of the 4 US carriers. I had to buy a SIM unlock code on ebay for $2, after which, I tested it successfully with a Verizon tracfone SIM, as well as a Freedompop global GSM SIM and they both worked great. I also had no troubles getting the bootloader unlocked from motorola, TWRP, Root, SuperSU, and finally- Xposed framework. But, in the end, I really bought this phone because of its "universal" radio and removable battery, and with one of the 4 carriers not working, its not worth the $25 savings over just getting the fully unlocked model; at least IMO.
Is it possible to use the native android hotspot without rooting the phone? Or is this hotspot programmed for CS use only? Or possibly even blocked as are some tracfone branded phones? Once in a while I need to use hotspot on the road, but not wanting to root or anything special.
I just tested the tethering function on the CC Moto G4 Play and it seemed to connect and work just fine. Note that my test set was rooted, but I didn't make any changes to enable the tethering. Also, for what its worth, I was testing using a freedompop global SIM, but that shouldnt matter either. Hope that helps- tested just for you, before I return it today!

Did the same thing, I had two of these for my parents and ring plus didn't like the imei. Wound up grabbing two from b and h last Monday and they showed up last night. Ran both through ring plus and they're good to go!

well, I still have this thing because target return period STILL isnt up due to holidays (my reciept says return thru 1/24!), so I'm trying to fire it up on BOOM! but having troubles. will not connect to the "V" network. Shows my BOOM number when I insert the SIM and everything appears the same in the "cellular networks" menu including the correct APN. PRL version is also the same as my two other working handsets I've swapped the SIM into for test. The other two sets (LG Transpyre, and Moto G4 Play xt1609) are both Verizon branded phones, and of course, this one is Consumer Cellular but SIM unlocked, and bootloader unlocked. So, it seems like I need to update the PRL, or Profile, or APN, or something. Maybe run some #*#* codes? any clues?? I called BOOM but the rep I got wasnt technical.

I wonder how many of these are floating around on the used phone market now, and if there's an easy way to check. I guess just have the eBay seller share the IMEI with you and test it on Sprint's BYOD checker? Would it tell you if it's explicitly not going to work, or only "We can't activate this phone online.", which is ambiguous?
Can't find an unlock service on eBay for CC... at least not any for $2. Does anyone have a SIM unlock code or other method to use this phone on different carriers?
I'm trying to buy these broken phones off eBay, fix them, and sell them.

You are out of luck. Bootloader has to be unlocked on this Motorola phone to get permanent root. You should have gotten a Moto X Force, the Kinzie with the free bootloader unlock from Motorola. Instead you bought the crappy Verizon version with the locked down bootloader.
I assume you are not a Verizon customer and therefore do not actually need a Verizon phone?

Ah, but what if it's a Verizon phone that has been subsequently carrier unlocked? (Allowed to work with other carriers) Will the bootloader be able to be unlocked then? I wonder if anyone has tried this.

You question has a false premise. That Verizon phones are carrier locked...
All Verizon postpaid phones since 2012 - especially the 2015 Droid Turbo 2 and the 2014 Droid Turbo -- are already carrier unlocked. By order of the FCC, for Verizon to acquire more LTE bandwidth they had to agree to that.
No, using a Verizon phone on another carrier doesn't let you unlock the bootloader.
This year Verizon said they were going to start temporarily carrier locking their phones for 90 days, to prevent theft. But that's being appealed since it violates the 2012 FCC agreement. I haven't kept up with the outcome of this 2018 development because I'll never buy a Verizon branded phone for myself. But the DROID TURBO 2 was carrier unlocked from day 1.

I was not asking about *ALL* Verizon phones just the Droid Turbo 2. So no false premise.
I'm not your typical XDA user. However, I was under the impression that if I could carrier unlock the phone that that could allow me to also unlock the bootloader (on some phones). You are saying this is not the case with the Droid Turbo 2?

That is not the case, ever, for Verizon Motorola phones.
The false premise was assuming Verizon postpaid phones are carrier locked. They are not, have not been for 6 years.
Verizon postpaid phones (since 2012) are already carrier unlocked.
Verizon demands the bootloader be locked down on all their phones, even Google Pixel phones. You can't unlock any Verizon bootloaders except through some exploit. For the 2014 Droid Turbo (Quark), Sunshine team found an exploit. For the 2015 Droid Turbo 2 (Kinzie) no exploit was ever found.

Can I buy a prepaid moto e4 and use it with a plan?

I'm looking at the prepaid virgin mobile Moto E4 and am wondering if it can be used with a regular phone plan. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Normally, it's carrier-locked to them for one year. After that, Virgin will unlock it if you ask them.
Sent from my Asus P027 using XDA Labs
you would have to check with various unlockers and see if any issues with unlocking virgin prepaid moto e4's based on imei's of course and when the hardware was released if like the latest verizon moto e4's imei's that can't be unlocked yet unless that has changed recently
The Virgin E4 is SIM (carrier) unlockable. All versions to date.
