Fan not working - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all
I have the Nvidia shield 2017 version and I recently had my nvidia shield reboot after a minute of being turned on. I had contacted Nvidia shield and they said it was the power plug, so they sent me another one. well that did not work. I called them back and they said I would have to fix it myself since it was 1 year and 2 months old
oh well so I took the shield apart and saw it was dirty and I vacuumed it out and the device still turns off. My next idea was to run the hose of the vacuum over the fan and that worked on keeping the device on for as long as the vacuum is on. I am 90 percent sure that the fan is fried. I was able to get the device to do a factory reset before it turned off last time.

My question to yall is does anyone know where I can buy just the fan?
Also is there any testing software for android tv that I could run to check if the fan is totally shot or if something else is the problem?

Just had to exchange my 10.1 =(

So I got my 32gb grey 10.1 yesterday and today I hate to go in and exchange for another one.
I was playing Galaxy on Fire 2 and the game froze up the whole tablet. I had to hold the power button to get the unit to power off and then it would not power back on. I held the power button forever, no dice. Tried plugging it into the wall and the computer...nothing. Let it sit for a while then tried again.. dead.
Went to best buy and luckily they had more so I just exchanged it...now I get to set it all up again yay!
Huh, maybe you just got a bad one. I played that game a little last night and it ran amazingly smooth. Maybe i didnt play it long enough for it to crap out lol nevertheless, I hope it wont be a widespread issue

It was running great for me too. I actually had just got to the part where you had to buy the full version and did so.. That's where it froze up the whole tablet.
I think i'll stick to snes9x for now just in case this is a chip issue. Did you notice it overheating at all whilst playing it?

Nope, none at all. I got the message that I needed to upgrade to the full version to continue so I hit accept. It went through and my email from the market came through then it froze up and wouldn't recover. After about 10 minutes I held down the power button till it turned off and from there it would never turn back on.

I had to exchange mine as well. I actually picked mine up on Wednesday 6/15/11 from Tiger Direct here in Naperville. I was trying to get my Mac to recognize it (FAIL) and the screen would not come back on... I exchanged it on 6/16/11... now seeing your post, I am deeply concerned. I gave up my Asus Transformer for this!!!
i had a similar issue, my went off and will not turn back on, i plugged it in the charger and the battery animation will not come on at all, it was flashing on and off and it it show the battery icon but no animation the screen was turning itself on and off while plugged in.
after about an hour of messing with it, i have to actually hold the charger with my thumb and out of no where it starting charging and i could see the battery animation, then i immediately unplugged it and it turned on right away.
a bit concern with that

Power issues

Hey Peeps, ok so today i bought a Google Nexus 7 (thinking good make tablet and all that), it was 2nd hand, and i see great development for it, unlike the Lenovo one i have.
Now it was 2nd hand, and immaculate, boxed, bought from CEX UK, Tablet comes with 2 year warranty so i have peace of mind, it wouldnt power up in shop, dude said it had been sat in the display for a few weeks left on and battery was dead but its fine, so, im home, to my dismay, Plugged charger in, and nothing, no beeps, no battery indicator or lights, nothing, tried a different charger, same thing, tried usb, no difference, so i tested all the chargers on my phone, theyre fine, so i googled and found so many random silly posts about press this button for 10 secs, do this etc etc, im sure youve all read them before, but i know this can happen to any android tablet, so im still confident of a fix, but ive tried em all, pulling the battery etc and still, nothing.
Now i know the tablet works because the store test all equipment they purchase before accepting the item, so its clear the battery has been left to drain away, and im reading on here that this can be a real pain with the Nexus.
Im stuck, can anyone give me any advice please, ive finally bought a tablet that has good XDA support and Development, i really dont want to take it back and have to swap for a different one.
Any help appreciated, must be a simple fix for this.

So I think my 6P screen just up and died, completely out of the blue. I was using it minutes earlier no different than I usually do and it wasn't dropped or exposed to liquid, etc.
So the phone was charging and the battery light was on so I know it was powered on. I went to wake the device and was unable to. The screen VERY QUICKLY flashes like it's trying to turn on and then turns back off right away. Only the middle of the screen attempts to light up. I can actually see a brief flash of my notifications on my lock screen. I figured it might just be a hiccup and force powered down the phone by holding power. I tried to boot it again and still no screen, nothing is happening. Eventually the battery light comes on, so I know it's booting up.
I was able to use ADB to backup my files and reboot to bootloader and used fastboot to flash factory images. Sadly, the issue persists. Phone is long past both Google and Huawei warranty programs. RMA doesn't seem to be an option. I'll be fixing this myself.
I guess my questions to anyone with insight are;
-Has anyone else ever ran into this and managed to fix it? Unlikely, but hey...
-Does this sound more like a display issue or a motherboard issue? Or something else entirely? This being my primary question, really, as it matters for which parts I'm going to have to buy. I would guess the motherboard since the display wasn't dropped or exposed to liquid/fire/heat/cold/explosions/radiation/alien probing/12 rounds with Rocky Balboa/etc., and it still makes an attempt to turn on. If it was the MB, would it even boot? IDK, that's why I'm asking.
-Any reputable vendors which sell quality parts for the 6P? I've had hit or miss experiences with phone parts in the past and I haven't taken anything apart since my N5 & GNex.

Maybe the solder is bad could try 200 degree oven for 10 minutes to see if it that fixes it?

Possible, I suppose. Thanks! I'll give that a shot as a last ditch effort. I called Google just to see if they'd RMA it, told me I was out of warranty which I knew was the case. They were getting transferred to Huawei for a conference call with Google and them and Huawei disconnected. The Google rep said Huawei has actually been surprisingly good about taking care of certain out of warranty issues. 30 minutes on hold with them, we'll see how it goes.
I think that's a possibility since the screen keeps doing weird things. Blinks on for a half second on the top right of the screen, then the left, the middle, the bottom. Touch absolutely works across the entire display even though nothing shows. I was able to guesstimate the encryption pin entry to finish booting which allowed me to ADB pull all of my files (silver lining, I guess). It vibrates when I touch it, etc. If the oven trick doesn't work I'll just solder it myself and see if that fixes. That would be nice if I didn't have to buy anything!
I think Huawei is putting up a front to Google to look like they are doing good but lots of bad reviews on the forum glad I paid for the warranty first time and only time I've had to use it twice so far this last time they sent me a refurbished phone wonder how long I can do this for this may be the last phone I will actually want

Thanks again for the input, could you do me one last favor anytime you get a chance? From the bootloader, what's the key combo to power off the phone? I just want to turn it off. I can power to the bootloader, but I can't remember the key combo to POWER OFF. I know 6P has some others like barcodes, etc. Not sure if it's up twice, down once, etc. If you can't no biggie, I guess it can sit at the BL until the battery is dead dead.
If it started on start it should be three down

If you have an Amazon Firestick or a Chromecast does it show up as an option under screen mirroring? I believe if the cpu and gpu can render the image for screen mirroring, then you know the display is bad or the connector needs to be reseated. What do you think? Edit- but you would need to enable wireless display for that it's early, I will keep thinking of ways to narrow it down. The voice command open display settings will get you halfway there.

Sounds exactly like my screen failure.
One minute working, reboot. Dead.
I had to get a warranty replacement. (Nexus Protect $79.)

Did you purchase directly from Google? I've had my 5X since 2015 and it entered an endless bootloop last week. Gave Google a call and they offered me a one time warranty replacement because I'm in good standing and long time user of Google Play products. Worth a shot?

Not directly from Google Play. It was pre-ordered from Project Fi. When I called Google support about it, they transferred me to Fi which said they'd have to transfer me to the manufacturer, Huawei. They told me there was nothing they could do, call a local repair shop. I called a place in town and he offered to take it apart for me and try to reseat all of the connections and if it started working he wouldn't charge me. Otherwise a replacement would be $200 :/
I'm taking it there tomorrow so hopefully it's just a loose connection and starts working again. Touch seems to work fine all over and I cleaned the screen and put a light on it just to make sure there wasn't any cracks I didn't know about. Looks fine. I'm optimistic, lol. I think $200 is kind of steep, but he said it also comes with a lifetime warranty, so I guess that helps ease the pain a little. I need it fixed ASAP though. My backup Nexus 5s battery is shot. Takes like 12 hours to fully charge and discharges in about 2-3 hours.

My take on Nexus 5X bootloop, crazy possible fix

Ok guys maybe will work for your or not if u are reading this means that also u know what bootloop is. I am aware of the "new" way of fixing this by using only 4 cores instead of 6, well for me did not work so well. After a lot of scratching swears and other stuff i realized that actually this is a hardware problem, and i need to look at it as such.
01.So in the beginning i did try the oven charm, well was good for few hours... but after a short time it started to randomly reboot, specially after i was charging the phone(or getting intensive with it). (but not bootloop)
02. Second time i did use a strong hairdryer, to be more friendly, same thing few hours after it started with the random reboots. (but not bootloop)
so
03. i am suspecting that the problem starts from the snapdragon chipset, maybe a slow connection, so i added some pressure to the chip by adding some aluminum foil on top of it. Till now like this is working proper
CZ: So the main thing is: Because i set pressure on the Snapdragon chipset now my phone works again ^_^
IF situation changes i will let you know, but until now for me was the only way to fix this. (and believe me i did try all the software ways)
Later edit: almost two days since the massage and is rocking ^_^ jaja
I did that too, it worked for 2 or 3 days, then started to fall again.

Got a free replacement mother board from LG in India
I had a bootloop problem last week after upgrading to 8.0.0 through the beta route. Phone was manufactured in 2015 and bought by me in Apr 2016. Hence, it was out of warranty. The phone was bought through the Google store. Initially, it was completely dead. Maybe through bootlooping it exhausted the battery. Anyway I charged it for several hours and then put it in the freezer for 2 hours. It started and went into bootloop. I could get it to go to bootloader mode and recovery mode. I then rang up Google support and after two phone calls and discussion on chat they sent me an email which said that I should contact LG in New Delhi, India where I am located. Yesterday I visited LG repair center. They without any demurring or hesitation agreed to replace the motherboard. They only wanted to see the invoice and despite it being out of warranty they are replacing the motherboard. I asked the executive why I should trust a new motherboard as many people have reported problems after getting a replacement. He said, and I cannot confirm the veracity, that the there are some changes in the new motherboard and it should not go into bootloop. I will only know once I get the phone back next week and run it over a period of time. Will keep people updated. Even though I bought it in India and it was delivered from Singapore by Google LG has replaced the motherboard.

at the moment not is not running it started to randomly reboot, and i made another flame bake and is gone, i will buy another cheap dead phone to play with, anyway this method is good if u want to recover at least the files bla bla, i need to find a better way how to fix the chipset. anyway is fun
I just baked my wife's 100% stock locked 5x.. 2 minutes at 150°c (from cold to temp, timed after it reached temperature) and 30 seconds at 235° ( again not setting the timer until it reached temperature).. Used a hair dryer to slowly bring the temps down ( mine has a cold air button) then put it in the freezer for 5 minutes...
Booted, transferred files, installed apps and its still running several hours later.. I'm going to factory reset it, unlock it and mod it until it dies..

Officially my Tab S3 has died (Screen of death)

I charge my tablet once or twice a week, however, since a week ago my tablet did not turn on after leaving it for a week without charging.
The tablet does not charge, does not turn on and I have tried:
- Different cables.
- Different chargers (official too)
- Direct charging from a computer.
- All possible button combinations.
- Leave it charging all night.
After all the above, still not working. But if I leaving it charging for more than an hour, the back feels a little warm, but does not give any signs of life, it has totally stock rom, never rooted.
Samsung refuse to repair because I loose my proof of purchase, fortunately I still kept my old tab s2
Now, I´m selling it for parts on ebay.

I just had this same issue, Samsung did fix mine though.. it was the LCD waiting on them to return it back to me.

Wow, it sound like LCD issues, very simillar to LG G4 with his screen of death, I'm stay with my S2 for some time and see if it is a extended issue or my tab was the lucky one (ironic mode).

Two reports after it has been on the market for nine months doesn't mean the sky is falling.
Two reports on XDA... probably I´m paranoid. I just wait, the tab s3 its a beautifull tab, thanks for your reply.
I had same experience for a moment. Then I realised that I had set my tab for minimum brightness while being in a bright room. One may laugh, but it is very difficult to distinguish if you have black wallpaper.
Mine would not boot, the screen did work though, I could go into download mode and everything.
Sent it in for replacement and they replaced the motherboard and the screen.
Either they were lazy to see that the screen worked, or there is a screen problem that can cause many problems.

Add me to the list of issues. Tablet wouldn't turn on after being dead for a few days. Let it charge overnight with no luck. I can feel it's on after hitting the power button because touching the screen causes it to vibrate as if I'm entering a wrong passcode on the lock screen. Has to be something wrong with the OLED panel.
Edit: Sent the device to Samsung. They are replacing the screen assembly and motherboard just as they did with the other poster in this thread. I hope this doesn't become a widespread issue.
I was taking my tablet out from a very tight case. After doing so, my screen went black, no video. Sent it in to be repaired. Due to being an intern9model, they refused to touch it. When I got it back, I prayed and slightly bend it in the center of the tablet. Voila, screen came back on!

The link below is obviously a "shill post" from the makers of "phone recovery software" trying to sell it to you, but they have a page that talks about how to recover from the "Black Screen of Death".

Galaxy Tab S3 will not switch on!
They say the same thing but say to use just Power and Volume Down for 7 seconds.
Even better, I found a confirming post on ifixit site. I trust ifixit a little more myself...
Galaxy tab 3, screen has power but is black.
This solution says to use Power and both Vol + and - at the same time.
I don't have this tablet but am thinking about getting it (less so now that I found this thread (Black Screen of Death? Yikes!)). Posting this info here on the hope that it helps someone else with this issue. If you try this solution, *PLEASE* post a reply and indicate whether it worked or not so others know if this solution is worth anything or not.
I've had my Tab S3 since August of 2017 and no issues. It is a work horse especially on the road (business travel).
Thanks for posting solutions. As to concern of a chronic issue, I'm unconcerned enough that I'm waiting for mine to arrive Mon. This thread was started back in Nov. I'd be surprised if Samsung didn't get a handle on it by now (if it's repeatedly been a problem), especially given that it was released as their flagship tab. I've read of issues with the S3 here and there, but for the most part, people seem to have a great experience with it.
Same issue. Had this since it's release - 3 yrs now. Worked great up to this. Now completely dead. For $600 not acceptable.
