Stock Camera Scene Recognition - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Did anyone notice that the OP6T has scene recognition? I was sending a picture of my children's lunch to my wife when I noticed the change in saturation. Is this new?

Nope it's definitely since the beginning of the 6T. It doesn't show what exactly is being recognized as on other phones but it does change saturation and stuff.

Thanks! Didn't notice that anyone replied. I was asking if the feature was new with the OP 6T, because I don't remember reading or hearing about this feature at all.

Pictures & Videos taken with the Google Pixel

Hey everyone, I made a similar post while waiting for the 6P. Let's start off posting pictures of what we can find from reviews and then post your personal shots once the phones start rolling in.
more can be found here: http://phandroid.com/2016/10/04/google-pixel-photo-samples/
per source: It appears at least half of these photos were processed with Snapseed and VSCO.

I'm guessing either that is a HDR+ oversight, meaning it was not utilized properly, or Google decided to keep contrast in this situation. Without being there to view the scene with my own eyes, I can't determine which photo is better (more accurate). Maybe keeping the shadows darker was truer to the scene, and again, produced sharp looking contrast. Or maybe HDR+ dropped the ball here - who knows?
I won't really judge until real reviews come out with post-release software.
I went for a wander at lunchtime to get some real world samples from the camera. Didn't have long so not exactly the best photography but it should give everyone a bit of an idea about the camera's real world performance.
EDIT: It seems the tapatalk upload destroys image quality, so here is a Google Photos link for the full resolution versions of the below, along with a couple of extra shots:

Wouldn't focus quite as close as I wanted despite clicking a lot in the closest flower but plenty of detail where it did decide to focus:

The App

Great photos
Does anyone know or can anyone test to see if adobe lightroom mobile allows taking photos in raw? OR another app to shoot in raw?
Very low light, smokey environment. Turned out much clearer than expected
Just saw this great shootout video from PCWorld. They compare the Pixel (XL in this case) to the S7, iPhone 7 Plus and V20. Def worth watching!

Really love this camera. Everything is so well balanced

I don't care what anybody says. This camera is dope. I like it better than my Samsung Galaxy S7 camera.
Happy Halloween!

Nexus first then Pixel. I believe the result on the nexus is better. Even though it can be harder to capture that shot and even though it takes longer to shoot, process and open the app. The nexus also has terrible stabilisation, has trouble autofocussing and fails to get close up in macros.

I hardly see any difference....
I prefer the pixel slightly,
And the things you mentioned are the difference
I can't download them at full resolution so it's hard to say this way which one is clearly better.

Yeah I uploaded them on tinypic and I thought they embed them in the thread with a click function to take it to their site for full resolution. I could swear it used to do that. I need another solution.

Camera Uncertainty

I'm on pre-order status right now, but is anyone else feeling really uncertain because of the lack of information regarding the performance of the two 13MP rear cameras? At this point, that's probably the only thing holding me back from a definitive jump. I currently have a Google Pixel, and the camera on this thing is stellar. It would be a hard blow for me to pay 700 dollars for a design I like more while also being a huge downgrade in the camera arena.
Edit: I've seen some of the twitter samples, but I heard those were likely poor in quality due to twitter. I don't know how much truth there is to that since I'm not an avid twitter user.
There's video and photo samples in youtube it seems like it cant match lg g6 camera quality.

Link ? Hope it is not from one of those click bait youtube accounts using false videos and images.
I have searched high and low for actual photo samples and have not found any. The only samples I can seem to find are the two 360 video samples available from the recode event and a cohrtside viewing at some basketball game.

Just Google for "Essential’s President is Sharing Pretty Bad Photos He Took on the Essential Phone" and check ones at droid-life. These were shared and then pulled by Niccolo De Masi on his Twitter account.

Im not saying these AREN'T the PH-1 but... its some just a Youtube channel that shows random video. and the description states 360 video but we dont see 360? Am i wrong about that? The next one says camera shots or samples or w.e but then end with shots of the Moto Z? These are what people are going by?

I see the City scape photos your talking about though. I would like to first note that i can now see why people are saying what they are about the camera. I would also like to say however, that 2 photos of dont tell the actualy quality. i take ****ty photos with my s8+ all the time. for those that want to be optimistic and get the phone. It's still perfectly legitimate to believe the camera is able to take quality shots. We just haven't seen any yet haha. Biggest problem with this phone, Andy hasn't shown hardly anything on it at ALL. other than it's design, and its innovative Wireless USB tech. other than the normal sales hype, we REALLY don't know too much. Hell, they still havent finished water IP ratings yet. If you check their twitter they are always reporting saying we havent gotten official ratings back yet, check back soon! haha

Unless these photos were taken through a window, quality is not what you would expect from a $700 phone (will be much higher for me due to shipping to EU and customs). High noise and little details. I guess camera doesn't have OIS and not well optimized yet.
I reserved on the first day, but if camera quality turns out to be mediocre I'll probably buy LG G6 that will be around 300€ cheaper. Camera is important for me. I have DSLR but it's heavy.
IP rating, don't care much. Currently have Xperia Z1 and enjoyed waterproofing for the first 2 years. On the 3rd year water went in, so had to replace battery and vibration isn't working. I'm not swimming with the phone again
It's better to wait for reviews to get an answer to this question. When your the first one to buy a newly released phone, you're always jumping off a cliff, to a degree, and will have limited information about the real quality of many features on the phone.
Even if Essential was releasing good photos, I'd be skeptical that they were taken in ideal conditions, by professional photographers, and were just marketing hype.
my question for everyone who is the image sensor manufacturer, I am just curious if it is a Sony IMX or a total different manufacturer....
I remember finding the info once or so I thought

Camera flash brightness with default camera app

Hi,
I was very disappointed with camera flash intensity one day while my colleagues were taking portraits in low light with their high intensity flash on xiaomi mobiles but my Oneplus Flash couldn't do anything.
I thought it was the hardware design and i thought to live with it.
But yesterday i installed magnifier app from playstore and observed that the flash was brighter compared to camera app.
My question is, is there a way to increase the intensity by increasing the amount of current pumped to the LED?
Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
You may be able to do it with a custom kernel. Though they generally only offer options for the notification LED, not the flash.

Surround Shot on Note 9?

I was using surround shot on my N8. Anybody know if they got it to work on the N9 and if so would they mind sharing the APK?
ETA: OH! And also, picture in picture or.. what was the name of this camera option... snapping images using both front and rear-facing cameras?
I guess you could find another Camera app that supports surround shot and/or PIP.

Maybe but I prefer to use the main app. I was using this on the N8. I don't know what I did with the APKs. Picture in picture and surround shot were two really useful features on my camera.
If anyone has it, please share!
Yes I also miss it.
I guess Samsung is trying to force people into buying the 360 cameras.
But that is a bulky separate device to carry around. I just wanna take the occasional surround shot when I see an unexpected opportunity, like I did with my Note 5, Galaxy S7, and, I believe also Galaxy S6 before that.
That is much more spontaneous, natural and fun than walking around with a 360 camera in hand trying to find an interesting spot.
I have the apks for both pip and surround shot. They do not appear in the camera app or app drawer.
I can shortcut to the apps but they do not open. I have been messing around with them but no luck so far.

I can't remember who, but someone sent me a PM with an APK and I tried it but it didn't work. I didn't see any option for it after install and restart. I've looked, but there doesn't seem to be any great third party app that can do it well.
anyone ever get this working?
Not on my end.
that sux.. just got a note 9 and wanted to try this, along with virtual shot mode, but found out htey are both gone now
I know google cardboard camera can take 360 shots also.. but may not be the same.
i do see several versions on apkmirror..

Taking photos with voice command no longer takes photos automatically (timer)

Seems an update to the camera app has caused the timer feature for selfies and the auto snap feature for the camera to stop working. Probably one of the best one handed (squeeze) or no handed feature and now it's broken. We should upvote to bring attention to the thread.

Looks like they added it again with the Pixel 4 camera app. Downloaded the leaked APK, gave it a try, and worked.
