How can I use external mic for video recording. Normal stock camera app not recording audio through mic and same thing with Google camera. Any way out of this?

Does anyone know if I can buy an external mic to plug into the N4 and be used while video recording? The mic in the phone itself is very distorted during the events so I want to record videos with high quality sound during loud music events.

You can but it won't work!!!
I have the same requirement and the standard video app will not use an external mic - It must be a software issue...
I have found an app recently posted on the Play store: Ultra Video Camera. It will allow you to use an external microphone to record video. YAY! It's clunky to use (early days) and has very few user features within it but it does have an option to choose the inbuilt microphone or to use a headset/external microphone.
It works with my Lavalier mic as well as my standard headset + mic that I use for phone calls. The problem is that the quality of the sound recording is AWFUL.
There's a background hiss and a regular 'clicking' throughout the entire video. BOO!
I've emailed the creators and asked them if it can be improved - I'll update here when I get a response.
That aside - It does prove that the issue is a software challenge - and so I ask if anyone can 'hack' embellish the standard video app that comes with Nexus 4 to accommodate an external microphone?
My experience of the quality of the sound on the standard video app is that it's very good, but it prohibits standing any more than 2 metres away from the phone when making a video, hence the requirement for an external microphone.
Just curious if anyone knows of a mod to adjust the mic gain when recording videos. It's just way too high /loud and distorts easily.
Failing that, if there was a decent camera app that could work with an external mic plugged into the headphone jack (I have an iRig Mic Cast), I'd love that as well.
Very good idea with this iRig Mic Cast or any else external microphone and works very well with SnapCameraHDR and LGcameraPro I tried headphone's mic
Pinout for G2 is like in pic.
I have a Galaxy S4 I9505 - I am trying to use my external microphone for video recording but it doesn't seem to pick it up. If I use the audio recording app, this will pick up the mic with no issue.
I have looked through the forum and i seen someone suggested to use lgcamera from playstore and this works but the sound wasn't perfect as there was some noises.
I used this mic on a Galaxy S3 while recording a video and it works fine.
Has there been any changes in the Camera app? can you recommend anything?
Thank you in advance.
I red on xda that it csn be done by modified build.prop on rooted device.but is there any other ways to fixed it without root?third party apps maybe?
Try to use external mics like the rode video mic if u are very serious about the audio quality.
Alternatively a good set of earphones( which have a aux cable) with mic can be used for better audio
Ever since I have rooted my mi9t, the mic audio recording level is very very poor. Whenever I send an audio message via WhatsApp, the audio is hardly audible. The same happens when I record audio through stock sound recorder.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks.
