It's an added feature for Android Pie, you can change it under
Settings > Lock screen > Always On Display > Display mode
You can choose one of three available options, on Android Pie it is "Tap to show" by default.

I'm running Oreo, no Pie for me yet. Official comes in March.
I had there everything set up to be ok. AOD is since Android6 on S7 BTW and there is no problem there.
Now, since the red dot is flashing (low battery) I have the AOD clock, date and % bat. charge always on. But when the battery is let say 40% it all goes to black. I have battery savings settings OFF. Screensaver ON. BTW

I know with my N5 I had constant problems with the "butt dial flashlight" and on of the reasons I got a N6 is that I wanted to eliminate that problem and indeed it was successful. Now with the 6P this morning I noticed my pocket was getting hot and I took the phone out and the flashlight was on.. How do I disable the flashlight as I never use it anyway and if you ever saw a battery sucker it is the flashlight?
Assuming you're talking about the quick launch icon in the notification shade, turn on System UI Tuner (hold down the settings gear in the shade for a few seconds and it will start to spin under your finger (hard to see). Then go into settings and at the very bottom it will say System UI tuner. You can then customize what icons are shown in the shade.
Ok what is "notification shade" .. does phone need to be rooted as I held down the settings gear for at least 9 seconds on the screen that shows things such as bluetooth, airplane mode, auto rotate, Location.. etc and I never got the setting wheel on the upper right near the percentage of battery and nothing happened, but my 6P is not rooted?
Your phone does not need to be rooted, but you do need to keep your finger very still as you're pressing on the gear icon. It took me a couple of tries.
if you have OK GOOGLE enabled...
"OK Google, turn off flashlight".
I'm serious.
You don't need to be rooted. Maybe have developer settings turned on in the first place?
"To enable System UI Tuner in Android 6.0 Marshmallow preview 3, pull down your notification shade and long-press on the Settings gear icon for up to 5 seconds. Once you let go, you should see a pop-up with the message “Congrats! System UI Tuner has been added to Settings.†And as that message suggests, you can head into settings, scroll to the bottom, and find an option for System UI Tuner."
Once enabled you will see a small wrench next to the gear icon in the notification shade.
Notification shade is the pulldown menu where you notifications appear, and where the quicklaunch icons are.
As @Zlatty said, you might need to turn on Developer Options first (but the Droid Life guide doesn't mention it). To enable this, go to Settings > About and tap on Build Number 7-8 times until it says "You're a developer!".
Will this stop it from going on or does it just shut it off once it it on?
OK I was able to access that screen and flashlight icon was pale with a diagonal line through it but all that tells me is that it is off as I did nothing to disable PERMANENTLY the flashlight that I know of ??
Yes that worked but you have to know it is on.. I want it never to go on.
@painfree Click and hold on the flashlight quick launch icon in the System UI tuner Quick Settings and drag it down to the trash to delete the icon from your Quick Settings/Quick Launch.
fury683, thank you that worked it is removed.

Go into settings and find "battery" and there you
will see the optimization features and options.
The Nougat 7 roms automatically put apps to sleep
if they have not been used for a given amount of time.
You can also over-ride this feature on individual apps.
Good luck, have a great day!
Does anyone found a way to sleep apps manually? I would like to sleep Facebook, because it's not in the list now...
All you do is long press on the icon on home screen and it has sleep option

do you even have Nougat? When I press on facebook there is no sleep option not even on other apps!
As Samsung continues to roll out new beta builds of Android 7.0 Nougat for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge we continue to test them and find out what’s new. In the latest part of our What’s New With Nougat series we’re looking at a new feature that will allow you to save battery by putting apps to sleep.

Samsung removed that for Facebook! Now you can only sleep some apps and Facebook is not one of them... maybe because it's a system app? I hate that app even if I dont use it its always in my battery stats using 3-5% of the battery! I could just disable it but sometimes i need it and that sucks balls

Yes I do, upon further inspection not all apps have the sleep option, but for example my square app, clash of clans, mobile legends all have sleep as an option when long pressing icon.

1 - You didn't write this.
2 - You copied it from God knows where.
3 - Nougat isn't Beta any more.
4 - Your "post" had absolutely no relevance whatsoever to the original question.
Why did you bother?!
It seems indeed system apps cannot be put to sleep. However, under Battery Usage > Optimise battery usage you can activate the app (if not already done). Maybe those Doze apps can help out.
My screen constantly wakes up for notifications and I can't figure out how to turn it off. I'm using the "textra" texting app and in the textra settings I have the "wake up screen" option set to off, but my screen still wakes up so there's obviously a setting in the phone that is making this happen, but I can't find it.
Screen lock and passwords.
still cant find it i have the same issue
Notifications & status bar - Notifiations turn on screen.
Go into setting and then screen lock and status bar
Emui 5 Notifications turn on screen
Hello.....that was a problem with my honor 8 lite...just got it fixed by applying the default theme for your emui 5.0.....then go to settings->notifications&status bar then you will find Panel called Notifications Turn on the screen..Just disable it.. ....some themes in huawei themes editor don't support this setting cuz some of these thems are essentially made for emui 4.1 ....Good luck

I don't have that ****ing option fir some reason... Can't post the photo on this ****ing blog... Whatever.
I tried to find answer but its either impossible or either I cant search properly so here is my problem.
After I enable battery saving in G6(Oreo. not rooted) I get battery icon present in top left corner of the bar and also on lock screen there is message informing me battery saving is on. So is there a way to have battery saving on but without all those things that remind me about it all the time ? Only way I have found so far is to swipe message on lock screen to the right and I have two options, one of them has clock icon and after pressing on it it gives me option to put this notification to "sleep" for max two hours and after clicking it all battery saving notifications are gone but they come back after this 2 hours apparently. I dont even know if this option puts notifications to sleep or battery saving is disabled for those 2 hours. So is there a way to have battery saving on but without any reminders/notifications ?
Thanks for any help
The only solution I found is to make the notification as non-intrusive as possible. If you tap and hold on the notification, you can go to "All Categories" and set the "Status" category to low priority. You can even prevent the notification from showing on the lockscreen. If you did everything right, there shouldn't be an icon on the status bar.
Keep in mind that this also affects all other SystemUi notifications that fall under the "Status" category, and there's no way around this.
On the current version of Android (10) if you swipe your screen from the top down you will see the Battery Saver is On notification. If you press and hold this notifcation you will see: Silent notifications / System UI / Status: These notifications can’t be modified.

Hello, here it's the solution
-Install Nice Lock and Lockstar
-Open Lockstar in Nice Lock
-Create random pattern and Set ON
-Now, you can see status bar on lockscreen.
You can OFF lockstar or delete completely, bug solved.
All Good Lock 2019 apps

This is about the lockscreen, not the AOD.
I don't have this bug btw.
