[TWRP] How to Back Up Data When Stuck in a Boot Loop? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I flashed some stupid things and ended up in a bootloop. I can see the /sdcard folder through TWRP, but since it's encrypted it all looks like garbage. I'd like to do a factory reset, but not without backing up all that data in a way that it can be restored to the device afterwards. Is this possible?

[Q] Infinite Boot Loop

Well i had disliked the new market that had come out so i had gone to settings>applications>manage applications>market and clicked remove updates. My phone had restarted and got stuck at the red eye of death loop. My phone is rooted with titanium backup downloaded however i did not backup everything i wanted to my sd card before the loop started. I don't want to factory restore as it would delete the data for all the stuff i didn't backup. I so far have been to recovery mode and deleted cache partition thinking that would not hurt the data but have not touched the factory reset button in recovery mode. Is there anyway to get to my phone. If this is not possible is there anyway to get to titanium backup and backup what i want before wiping anything else on my phone?

[Q] Unable to do anything with my previously encrypted phone

I was running 4.3.1 and decided that I wanted to use encryption. So I encrypted my entire phone and all was fine. Then today I decided to try out 4.4.1. I've made multiple attempts at wiping everything, but data and cache both seem to be unmountable in both TWRP and CWM. I've tried restoring the factory image but it just seems to hang on the boot animation. Any ideas?

Restore /data from prior backup?

I was running teamub 1/11 and today a update rolled out (1/19) that multiple users have confirmed is causing a boot loop. I tried dirty flashing back to 1/11 but got weird issues. Either boot loop, or OS would boot but would just be a black screen with my time/bars/etc but nothing else. System wipe clean flash to 1/11 got the phone up and working but super bummed about the lost data.
I backed the data up from the phone, and was wondering if it would be possible to restore that data over my current install?
any advice is appreciated, thank you!

Encryption Unsuccessful error after flashing N Beta

So I was trying to flash the new N beta. I wanted to do it without wiping internal storage if possible so I went into the flash-all.bat and deleted "-w" so it wouldn't wipe. I wasn't sure if it would flash successfully without wiping but I figured it was worth a shot and if it didn't work I could always boot to TWRP, copy my data to my PC, then do a flash with a full wipe...
Well, after the flash completed and the phone booted up I'm getting the "Encryption Unsuccessful" error. Did it really attempt to encrypt my phone while flashing the beta? Why would it do that? Is there anything I can do at this point to avoid wiping my data? Losing my data isn't a huge deal, but I'd like to know why this happened...
I had the same after flashing Nougat factory in a similar way. However, I had hard-booted after about 15 mins into the first boot as I figured it was in a bootloop. However, I now suspect it was encrypting the phone while doing the first boot. If this was the case, thats a big usability flaw IMHO - it should notify what's going on, and tell the user to connect the charger. Anyways, looks like I'm going to have to restore from backup
if you used the stock boot image then that's why it encrypted you. Stock has forceencrypt. You need a modified boot image to remain decrypted. @Tigerstown has a thread with modified boot images for angler. Use that in place of stock boot image and decryption will remain. For now however you will have to format data. Soooooooo. Flash the modified boot image then format data and you will be decrypted again.

Failed installing Lineage 14.1, wiped system, now restoring stock won't boot

Attempt 1 to install Lineage
Tried installing the Lineage 14.1, it kept doing a blank-but-illuminated screen, then turned off and back on, resulting in a boot loop.
We tried a couple of things - first the more conservative wiping of just data, dalvik and cache.
This did the boot loop described above. I then restored the stock backup and all was well.
Attempt 2 to install Lineage
The second time we wiped the system partition in addition to the above. Same bootloop.
Went to restore the backup of stock again, but now it's getting stuck at "I'm not a phone I'm a comprehensive yada yada" screen. It never progresses past this.
Attempts to get Stock Restore working
We've tried restoring just the system, data and dalvik
We've also tried System Image in addition to these.
No joy.
We don't have a laptop or other device to hand for a few days so we have just what's on the phone - the Lineage 14.1 zip, the stock backup and TWRP.
Any ideas how we can get back to a working phone with either OS?

The X722 model is not supported by Lineage.
I think that you have a problem. Hope anyone can help you to go back to stock successfully.
When doing the stock restore, we didn't restore the boot image.
Is that something worth trying?
