LineageOS for Wiko, MPMan or Polaroid smartphones? - LineageOS News & Discussion

Is LineageOS available for any model of these three lesser known European brands? They usually throw out new models without caring for update support, so LineageOS could extend their lifetime instead of being electronic waste.

Nexus 4 production costs: anyone know something?

Hi all! I want to know what are production costs of Nexus 4 for LG, to make more accurate considerations about its fairness for the final price of this smartphone (Nexus 4 costs €549-599 in all countries where there isn't Google Play Devices: ridiculous).
So...anyone know something?
Thanks

Basically all phones have manufacturing costs in the $200 range.
But of course there are also some onetime R&D costs we know nothing about.
Its not ridiculous, I have an export import business in another industry, but things are mainly the same.
1) They have a phone produced that is bassed on another phone, saving a lot of money in tooling, design etc. Tools can cost millions of dollars and to get your moneys worth you have to produce A LOT of phones. Apple spends a lot on tooling, this is why they have kept their square phones for so long, they need to make their money back. Google doesnt spend much in tooling, mainly because LG has already made this investment, and to them making the Nexus4 doesnt cost them extra.
Note: Other costs include:
- 3rd party components (screen, processor etc)
- Design
- Advertising
- Distribution - Delivery - import duty
2) They are cutting loads of middle men out of the way by selling direct
Here is what a traditional distribution network looks like:
Manufacture(LG) is expected to make 5-10%
Design, R&D trademark, software team etc (Apple, Sony, LG) 10%
Distributor 20%+ (Apple, Sony etc, this goes is where the marketing comes from)
Instore sales (apple store, carephonewarehouse etc) from 30 to 60%
This is a 60-100% markup just in profits alone. If you cut this out like google has, by not making profits in their software, doing their own distribution by selling direct as well as buying a phone that has already developed (Optimus G).
Is google paying us not use their phones? NO, are they making profits? a little.
I used to be a cost accountant for one of the larger Android phone manufacturers, and I can tell you LG cannot be making much (if any) money on this phone.
The standard cost per unit is most likely in the $200-$250 range, but I don't see any way possible the marginal cost per unit could be much under $300.

Zenfone 2 doing well in Japan

http://m.pocketnow.com/2015/07/24/budget-smartphone-demand
Nice to see that demand for the Zenfone has been high in Japan. I actually got mine imported from Expansys because I wanted the cheaper 550 model, which wasn't released here, and because the 551 sold officially here is significantly marked up in price (though still about the cheapest thing you can find in Japan with decent specs). But it seems ASUS have been shifting a lot of the official JP model 551 nevertheless. Japan has up until recently been terrible for freedom of competition and choice in mobile, with the three big established carriers holding a cast iron grip of the market in a cartel-like manner. A combination of the rise of dirt-cheap MNVO carriers and government intervention (forced unlocking especially) to curb the anti-competitive practices of the big 3 has started to change this. ASUS are obviously one of the main beneficiaries of this - breaking into the market with the Zenfone 5 and seemingly expanding their presence with the Zenfone 2.
Asus is a Taiwanese Tech company since 1989 and one of the 1st to release computer components to consumers. I am sure that they are able to bring down cellphones price/performance ratio considerably. Found this on wikipedia:
'ASUS is the world's -largest PC vendor by 2014 unit sales . ASUS appears in BusinessWeek’s "InfoTech 100" and "Asia’s Top 10 IT Companies"
They are partners with Intel (Created in 1968 ; released world's 1st CPU in 1971) since their release so they pretty much know what to build and how to code for their products.
I still remember building my 1st desktop with an Asus motherboard 16 years ago LoL Hands-down, I only use Asus motherboards as they are know to rarely fail and even then, their support is top notch. They always use their products in Overclocking Tournaments for a reason.

Agreed. Running an asus motherboard and asus monitor on my current build. I have never had an "indian call center" support experience with them. Always competent english speaking operators. Very nice people and very knowledged.

Recently, I realize that config_init.sh has the description "ZE550ML_JP" in firmware 2.19.40.22 and 2.19.40.23. There was no this description in 2.19.40.12.
I don't know this means ASUS is trying to sell ZE550ML here in Japan or not.
If so, ZE550ML will accelerate to change the market share of carriers in Japan.

Does it exist a chinese version of Lg watch urbane 2nd edition?

As i wrote in the title i would know if exists a chinese watch not with the same design of lg watch urbane 2nd edition (design isn't important for me at the moment) but a chinese watch with the same features and functions of it.Thanks
The short answer is no. The long answer depends on what your objective is. The U2 is a high quality Android Wear watch created by a large consumer electronics company, with commensurate research & development, manufacturing expertise, economies of scale, and technical support. LG is based in South Korea. What are you looking for when you say "Chinese"? Do you mean has radio frequencies that work in China. Do you mean not limited by Android Wear specifications. Do you mean sell for a cheaper price.
There are several versions of the U2 with frequencies for various markets. Google just announced expanded standalone functionality for AW, so more watches will be released with U2 like capability. There are no Chinese watches that are as well executed and supported as those created by the large manufacturers. Most Chinese watches are attempting to put full smartphone capability into a < 5 cm form factor. They are cheap, low quality, poorly supported devices, geared towards people who are willing and able to deal with technical difficulties and poor quality control associated with being on the bleeding edge. The U2 is priced high because it cost more to produce a high quality product. You can't get a Ferrari for the price of a Fiat.

What is the main difference between One plus and Samsung mobile?

Specifications
Gsm arena website, all your answers will be there.
Samsung - Innovative technology, class leading hardware, class leading software, and more intangibles than any other smartphone.
Oneplus - kept the same philosophy from the first day... combine all of the features that other phones already have into a flagship then keep the price lower than most of the other flagships ??*
2 different phones
Headphone jack, SD card, wireless charging, reliability.
Oneplus like apple and the rest want you to pay for a gimped phone. Although it looks like samsung wants to join the club and start removing sd cards and headphone jacks from their new phones. Maybe they have a strategy to lose more business to Oneplus in some sort of stock manipulation scam?
The other negative of Oneplus is their fast charging is very proprietary.

The last OnePlus phone that was actually a bargain was the 3T. Since then OnePlus prices have risen sharply. OnePlus do not make phones--they mod an existing OPPO model but the markup of the OnePlus version over the original OPPO phone got much higher starting with the OP5. Honor and Xiaomi make much better phones than OnePlus with far superior build quality at much lower prices. OnePlus is primarily focused on specs on paper rather than offering good phones at reasonable prices.

Give up with T5

I give up with my Mediapad T5 AGS2-W09. Despite its good hardware and performances (Octa-core 2.36GHz / 64Gb ROM / 4Gb RAM) Huawei is not providing any support, they do not plan any update, so I’m stuck with Android 8, and this tablet will become obsolete soon. Which is a pity because with this hardware the tablet could be used for many years. True, there are some custom ROMs available (LOS16.0, LOS18.1,…) which I tried and didn't like, so I always went back to stock EMUI with root.
I’ve just ordered new Lenovo tab with LTE, similar characteristics, and similar price as T5. Sold with android 10 (with committed upgrade to android 11 mid 2022). The level of support and information that can be found on their web is just incredible compared to Huawei. Au revoir Huawei.
