Is there a way to decrease screen resolution so that I can save battery life? 720p is honestly fine with me. I tried changing it through adb with "wm size 720x1560" but that just made everything look big and the navigation gestures stopped working.

It won't save much battery at all.
You still need to light the pixels. The processor will need to interpolate down to 720p.
The power savings if any, would be very small.
The best way to save a bit of juice is to use a black (#000000) wallpaper both on the lock screen and desktop, and also use a black theme. Android 10 supposedly will bring an all black interface, but in the meantime, this will do it.

Just wondering if any owners tried changing the density manually or with lcddensity. Wondering if touchwiz recognize any change in the density. Would love to change this to 200
Will definitely be playing around with the density when I receive mine.
I'm just curious as to what changing the density actually does. Since obviously you can't physically change the screen density, what is the advantage of tricking the phone into thinking it's different via software?

Usually changing the density makes the screen look more high res by making everything smaller and fitting more information on the screen. If your still using your galaxy s try out lcddensity and change to 200. Touchwiz on 1st galaxy s didnt adjust well to changing the density. default is using 240
Was the first thing i did. Set mine to 202 out if habbit, as most devices get issues with wonky UIs at 200 or below.
Device looks great on 202. The only thing that distorts slight is the quick access tools ( sound and screen rotation only) in the notification bar.
The posituve outweighs the nefative for me.

can you take a screen shot? im wondering what the app menu looks like.
+1 for screenshot. I run my DHD at 190. I use LCD Density Changer which has a compatibility mode to make problem apps run full screen, but it needs root
Is there a way to adjust the color temperature of the screen to a more natural white? I have tried the few screen modes in the settings but the Cinema one is still not very natural to me.
Is there an xposed framework mod or Rom that can do this?
Thanks.
I'm looking for it too. Tried some screen adjusters apps but the result wasn't really good as they just apply a filter layer above. I was used to my Note 2 color temperature wich is pretty higher than the 6500k reference resulting in a colder white. The Note 4 display in fact is more acurate, but I found it too warm for me. Whites seem a little pink to my taste. Wish I could raise the value, but I guess we must wait for a custom kernel with this capability.
One quick tip that might help.
Go into accessibility visual settings. Do the thing with the color adjustment and intentionally get them wrong. then move the slider almost all the way to the left.
You will no longer get to modify the adapt dispaly photo mode settings... but it will give a color temp somewhere in between.
you can alwyas set a triple click to shortcut to accessibility to disable it.
Oh thanks! Still not perfect but quite better this way. And without need of dirty kernel tricks.
I think the note 4 screen is too warm.
Is there any solution to make it cooler?

Just compare it to screen of Note 3, and you will not want it anymore :cyclops: It is much more warmer!
Hello guys,
I'm using i9500 s4 black edition.
I have done special test for battery saving and conclude that lowering resolution saves 40% battery.
Mine SOT time is approx 6 hours
So guys How can i reduce resolution in stock lollipop roms to 720p?
I have done via 2 ways . First terminal and second "nomone resolution changer" app
But notification dropdown becomes fuzzy and not usable ;( so how can i edit SYSTEMUI to work perfect in 720p?
Everything else is working fine but that systemui sucks.
Thanks
Any perceived savings are due to the placebo effect, thus your test is...questionable. To fix the fuzzies, reset the dpi to stock, as there is no way to get everything working properly at the reduced dpi.
if you use xposed try a module called app settings and you can change dpi on a per app basis.
Is it possible with or without root to make the navbar buttons smaller? If yes please say how.
Lower the DPI via the screen settings. Move the slider all the way to the left, and everything, including the navbar, becomes smaller.

No it just makes everything smaller and fit our size screen better.
I pair it with small fonts but not everyones eyes can handle it so test what you're comfortable with. All options are found in settings > display.

Is there a root method that achieves just that without changing the dpi?
I want to change from a 1080x1920 resolution to a 540x960 resolution for the purpose of making games run better by not having to render as much detail.
On a PC, this is SUPER EASY. On Android, it's a headache, notably on Moto G4 where all the "DPI Changing Apps" don't do anything. So don't suggest those, please. I've tried a handful.
I've even tried to edit the build.prop file, but there is nothing in there related to DPI or Resolution.
The best I have gotten is going into Developer Options and changing "Smallest Width" from 400 dp to as low as 360 dp (setting any lower, and it reverts to 360). I have tried as high as 1080 dp, but at that point the UI elements are getting too small to interact with reliably, so I didn't try to find what the highest possible value is.
Even at 360 dp, screenshots on my phone are saved at 1080 x 1920 which is not what I'm looking for.
Even more confusing, doing "Simulate secondary displays" and simulating a 1080p resolution results in only the top left quarter of my screen being filled, as opposed to 4K filling my entire screen. So it seems the resolution of the screen is 4K??
Ultimately, my goal is to reduce my resolution to make games take less resources and ultimately conserve on battery. If you have an actual answer that you have personally tried with success, that would be great.

This solved it! This actually includes a resolution option, which is what I'm looking for. Thank you to reddit user /u/finewhitelady.
Edit: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sagar.screenshift2 I like this app better because it comes with profiles, a persistent notification for toggling between custom and default resolutions, and even setting on a per-app basis which is great for my intended purposes of reducing resolutions in games to preserve battery life. While I'm not a fan of persistent notifications, I could easily construct an Automate widget to toggle between the two settings which is wonderful for the times I do need full resolution in my games.
Did it work to save battery, and make games run smoother?
