Making navbar buttons smaller - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Is it possible with or without root to make the navbar buttons smaller? If yes please say how.

Lower the DPI via the screen settings. Move the slider all the way to the left, and everything, including the navbar, becomes smaller.

Thanks but doesn't that deteriorate the screen quality?

No it just makes everything smaller and fit our size screen better.
I pair it with small fonts but not everyones eyes can handle it so test what you're comfortable with. All options are found in settings > display.

Is there a root method that achieves just that without changing the dpi?

[Q] Run N4 as if it's screen was bigger?

My N7 has the same screen resolution as my N4 (almost), but because of the physical size of the N4 screen it's set up as a small screen/phone. This also means I can't get so many icons & widgets on a home screen etc.
1. Is there an easy way to use the standard ROM and launcher in what I guess would be 'bigger screen' (tablet?) mode? I presume as this is done on the N7, everything will scale properly and, of course icons, fonts etc will all look smaller on the screen... I'm not necessarily wanting tablet mode - I really just want to squeeze more on each home screen and the pixels available should make it as sharp as the screen on my N7....
2. Will making this tweak stop automatic OTA OS updates from Google?
3. Any gotchas to doing this (other than maybe using my glasses more often)?
1 : Use a lower DPI change?
2 : Yes.
3 : Yeah why not just use glasses.

Gboard buffer space

Does anyone know how to raise the height of the keyboard in gboard so the bottom of it doesn't sit right at the bottom of the phone? I use both an iPhone and the OnePlus and vastly prefer the way iOS handles the keyboard by mimicking a bezel so your hands are more evenly distributing the weight of the phone while typing.

Go to Gboard settings - preferences - keyboard height

I think that adjusts vertical height. I'm looking for a buffer between the bottom of the keyboard and the bottom of the phone so the keyboard is higher up on the display.
Something that would resemble this

Man I wish we could do this as well. The only thing you can do I think is turn on the navbar and I don't want to do that because I love the gestures.
You can move gboard up to create a buffer. But it's not full size unfortunately

I knew about this feature too but it sucks because it's not full size and I have fat thumbs haha. It would be nice for the buffer like op states. Is there a way to request features if we're not on the beta program?
Doubt there's too much they can do if you don't want a nav bar. I could imagine it would be more Google's side with gboard
I'm ok with not having Gboard. I just want a keyboard that behaves like my Xs Max. I swap phones often to get a good sense on how to use both iOS and Android, and if I could get this to work properly, it would make my OP6T experience that much better.

Change DPI (no root)

In addition to changing the text size, here is how to change the overall DPI on a non rooted Mi 9:
Settings - Additional Settings - Developer Options - Smallest Width
The default value is 392. Change it higher to make things smaller, change it lower to make things bigger.
I've got it set to 449 which is a nice change.
Note if you don't have Developer Options, you need to do this:
Settings - About Phone - MIUI Version (tap this 7 times)
Im using right now 449! Thanks i love it like that
Looks good, thanks!

That's super simple, thanks for the tip ^^
There is something weird when i open and close theme app there is a glitch
It works but width between icons become too big if you set a lower value
411 is the stock value for pixel phones.

I use poco launcher and it handles that pretty well (well at 440). Also, you can try to add more icons on a row to counter-balance

Maybe with another launcher it works better, you are right. With original launcher 5x6, if i set value under 392 icons become larger
I you change this, the charging animation will be bugged...
thanks so much my friend

Have you tried if you can boot into fastboot?? Then you could edit/change the DPI Settings in build.prop (/system/build.prop). There you need adding/modifying lower Value to the following line
"ro.sf.lcd_density= "

Any way to make the notification font/icons larger without root?

That's just for the phone in general. Doesn't adjust notification font or icon size.

I just tried it and it made everything grotesquely huge. Icons, notification text, everything. In older versions of Android it didn't use to.

Yea, I mean that's a basic feature. You would think MIUI would have it since it's big time into customization.
I've just told you that MIUI does have it. Try it

Oh right. I just assumed you tried to do it with something else. I'll look for the setting. If you mean accessibility I already have that adjusted.
Now what exactly do you mean by the notification font/icons? Do you mean only the top row of the phone with the mini icons for battery, signal level etc.? If that's what you meant, then yeah, without rooting I don't think you can do anything with that. However, the setting that I mentioned really enlarges almost everything in the system. What remains the same size is the top row and the size of toggles in the notification shade.
To enlarge the status bar you could probably use some on-demand zooming after setting it up in accessibility settings.

Yes, the top. Nothing can be done really to it without root. I tried all accessibility settings and none affect that.

I used to use "Status" in the Play store for those settings but it won't work on Pie. Didn't need root either.
I tried pushing the Display size in Accessibility settings to the max (Larger), and it increases the size of everything, but the top row only slightly.
Another setting that might be useful, but not so much if you need it larger all the time, is turning on "magnify with triple-tap". Then you can triple tap the notification row to enlarge it temporarily.

I mean I can see the entirety of the phone with settings set to large, but the notification bar is even more tiny than what I would have been comfortable with before I needed glasses. Thanks for trying tho, I appreciate it. I may root after all but I do like the MUIU set up.
NotchTest
I use Notch Test to fix the current problem of notifications not showing/staying in the notification bar. There is a setting within it to set the icon size. Mine is currently set at 60 which matches clock etc but it could be set larger if wanted. Would not affect the clock or network icons etc though..........
I ended up rooting my Redmi Note 7. All is well now with my Metallica vision issues and the phone.

reduce icon size

Guys how do I reduce icon size on this tablet?
I don't like the way how big they are....
This should help
Long press on the home screen, and then click on 'Home screen settings'. Here, you'll see 'Home screen grid' and 'Apps screen grid' in the list. Select '6x5' for both to get smaller icons.
it's already on 6x5

I use settings->display->screen zoom. I set it to the smallest size and the icons/fonts are more than large enough, but you get plenty of screen real estate (although on some websites while web browsing, I'll set it back to the middle for larger, more legible text). I'm guessing this is a dpi setting and works well for me. Good luck.

My guess is you'd have to use a different launcher (I think nova lets you adjust icon size). anyway good luck
