Hello, I have an s8 sm-g950u that has a problem reading SIM and sd card. I have been researching for a fix but have about come to the conclusion I will need a new mother board. My main question is.. about which to choose. I am in the US and know the nootloader of this phone can't be unlocked. If I were to purchase a motherboard of an unlockable model would it work in this phone? What things would I have to be concerned With? Would it change.my imei and other identification numbers... would there be any other things needed to be done to make it work in my she'll? Would I have to replace any other parts? Knowing the motherboard would be shipped from Ali express, for around 100 bux, it would be used. Should I be concerned with That? Which would be the best motherboard to choose? The g950f I presume? Any and all advise would be excellent. Thank you xda
If it's like the Galaxy S7, you'll also need the G950F daughterboard that has the USB port on it. Also, I've read that the G950F uses Samsung camera modules and the G950U uses Sony camera modules, so your cameras may not work after the swap.
It might be easier just to find a G950F with a broken screen to buy.
Thank you for that info. I was not aware of either of those tips. I am hoping this thread gets bumped a bit with this reply. I am hoping for just a bit more info if possible.. Or even opinions on a new model that would be comparable to the s8.. maybe wider.. I have been reading on phones for days.. I had no idea there were so many to choose. Perhaps a Chinese variant with equal to better specs

Not sure about the others. But the phone seems like not able to get opened up as easy as unscrewing the screw. Probably will leave some scratches or damage to the digitizer etc. Is the price differ that much?
PS: What about IMEI number?? If you are buying demo unit I don't think you will have any valid IMEI from the demo phone.

He could just use one from an old phone (or maybe his carrier doesn't care about phones without IMEI-numbers).

If you have the demo units that had been used during launch then your going to need more then a Mobo. The screens don't actually work so you'll need one of those. Also a battery. Then the Mobo. Working Spen, because the demo units don't actually work. Then you need to get the equipment to flash a IMEI if the Mobo doesn't have one. Just at the price of Mobo replacements your better off buying a real Note 4 straight up.
ok I want to do that because I already did with an S5 I purchase a demo unit then just replaced the motherboard with another that I have, and now I have a fully functional galasy S5, but I don´t know if it is the same with a note 4 by the way the demo unit of the galaxy S5 is the g900x model and use it with a g900h motherboard

this is really old and all, but:
i opened a note 4 live demo unit last week:
the antenna cables between the mainboard and the bottom/usb PCB are missing including the connectors on the boards(s),
so it would appear that you at least need to add those cables, and either solder the connectors on the bottom pcb (or replace the whole bottom pcb, which is likely easier).
and beyond that, i cannot tell if the actual antennas are maybe missing too.
(and maybe one of the two cables is for wifi, which could explain that wifi is rather weak on my note4)
I believe that demo units are actually fully functional units of the retail product. The only difference is that the OS has been customized so it contain additional retail demo bloatware.
i own three note4 demo units (off ebay) and used them for years, with wifi tethering to a low-end phone for internet.
here is a picture of a disassembled note4 demo unit (right/top) compared to a regular (gsm) unit (bottom/left).

please observe the missing cables and unpopulated pcb connectors.
i dont't know about the other radio hardware.
i've had an offer from somebody who can supposedly turn a demo unit into a functional phone with a software fix, but the missing cable speaks against that.
otherwise the main difference is that demo units have the "samsung retail mode" app installed, which does all kinds of annoying things, and blocks any removal of itself through regular means (unless you know it's password), but getting rid of it is rather trivial, because the bootloader of the demo units (that i had) is not locked. you can just flash a new rom (AND wipe userdata)... or even just a custom recovery, and delete the retail-mode app from the system through the recovery.
but even then, no cellular radio.
and no gps(!), supposedly because gps is handled by the same chip.
hi guys, a bit of an unusual question on a software forum, but, can anyone recommend any mail-in repair shop that will fix the screen of a Samsung Note III N-9002 (i.e., the dual-SIM version)?
i bought via import in Europe, screen is now broken and would like to mail-in to get this fixed. so far I have found one, based in the US, but would be grateful for any recommendations, whether in Europe, Asia or US....
many thanks in advance for any tips.

I read here last week or two saying all versions of note 3 have the same screen. Hence it should be able to be fixed any where. Or am I missing you point?.

thanks for the response. i thought so too, but the Samsung repair guys in Slovakia claimed they ordered a spare part LCD screen from Samsung and then told me that despite best efforts they were unable to install it as it is not the same part as for the single-SIM version.
i think the thread you are referring to is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780299 but it just says that a LCD between 'normal' (single SIM) versions of a Note 3 for T-Mobile and Sprint is the same.
on the other hand, i found for example this: http://www.cellphonerepairshop.com/n9000lcddigitizerblackr/ - the part description it says it fits both a N9000 (which is what I understand to be the 'standard' version) and the N9002. so, i am confused - would have expected the official Samsung guys to be the authority on what fits and what doesn't....
purely from a common sense perspective, I would have expected the part to be the same, but maybe there's the issue of a second antenna or something somehow being included in the assembly, no clue.

Right. That's the 1. If that's the case, really fussy.

I believe that, only, the following Motherboard/Main Board/Logic Board/etc... Are interchangeable.
SM-G900T, SM-G900A, SM-G900F, SM-G900H & SM-G900P.
I've, personally, never needed to interchange one on my GS5 but, from what I've previously seen stated, this should work.
Maybe another member can state whether I'm right or wrong as a fact...
Good Luck!

Thankyou for the response. but I am still waiting for confirm response as i am going to buy a motherboard which will cost me and i want to wast money if it incompatible.
It should work but, maybe, not completely as you expect.
SM-G900H sub-PCB (USB/charging port PCB) has only one antenna circuit and SM-G900H middle frame may have only one main antenna inside.
So you may be disappointed if you're expecting LTE.
The LCD should match.
On the other hand, if you're just looking for a more cost-efficient solution of the problem and don't need LTE, I'd look for a broken SM-G900V.
thankyou for the response i will keep it in mind.
I have a dual Sim Samsung S8+ G955FD
I need to replace my USB charging port
do any of you guys know where I can get one for the G955FD?
and I live in UK by the way
hopefully you guys can help me out and thank you for your time for reading this.
I am wondering this as well, did you find a good one? I need it for my S8 G950F because the phone is not charging anymore and it is bad connection inside :\
I would consider either one of you buying a daughterboard for your phones and just replace it. Easiest way of fixing that problem.
You can buy a daughterboard/charging ports on eBay or ifixit (or many other sites, AliExpress, etradesupply...).
I think that the g950 version should fit both, the F and the FD as well as the the g950 should work in the g955
Worst case would be, you have to insert the old one and wasted 15-30$.

S8+

And for ebay, just search for Samsung Galaxy g95xxx (your version) charging port.
There should be some products that fit for you.

all the active/dual sim/snapdragon models share the same hardware so you can find them just about anywhere. Order up a new glass back/adhesives as well because Ive yet to remove one without scratching some paint off of one..
Depending on how often and where you charge picking up a wireless charging station and just using that is also an option.
Hi everybody... So let's start to form the beginning
I have an s10+ model SM-9575U1 and his motherboard is broken at all and I live in Brazil, so basically you cannot find another SM-9575U1 model so easily, Here goes my question (I know it sounds stupid, but...) its possible to put another motherboard model like SM-G975F, or maybe buy a used s10+ model SM-G975F and change some pieces like my battery and screen in this another model? Or maybe someones know where could I buy for a reasonable price another motherboard?
The c port pcb is likely different and there could be other incompatibilities.
