Has anyone had luck getting Android Auto on a custom rom? I haven't been able to and it was working on the stock rom.
I wouldn't mind going back to Oreo if that's what I need to do to make it work.

If you flash a deodexed ROM, you will get OTA updates but willl not be able to install them as they are odexed.
Deodexed means the framework is tweaked for theming purposes and other customization. IMO, its the the way to go if you're rooted.
This is my choice of rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714184
Very close to stock but with enough goodies to appease me. Also the the Dev is super active and puts out rooted builds of OTAs within hours.
To update the Clockwork recovery, simply use ROM manager.
+1 for geo411m rom!
Hey guys, I decided to flash a custom rom onto my i9505 a few days back and i'm wondering how I'd get the S4 version of S-Health back.
Thanks.
Bump, I'd really like to keep this custom ROM.
Luck.
Likely, the only way is to steal the apk out of the stock rom, then try to install it on your phone in the custom rom, and hope it doesn't require TW.
I tired that, it doesnt work.

Here is a working apk
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2328432
It should work with TW based roms, it might work with 'hybrid' roms, it won't work with AOSP roms (at least not as is & without significant re-working/porting).
But as you didn't even bother to give us such basic info as what rom you're using, how do you honestly expect people to give you meaningful help ? You've been here long enough to know what info you need to provide if you're going to ask for help in Q&A.
Hello All,
I am attempting to return my A501 to stock ICS from full rom package in the dev thread that is sticked.. Can anyone please tell me if it will remove the Skrilaz bootloader? if so will that break anything??? I currently have 4.4.2 Omni rom on it and it randomly restarts well, when ever it feels like it and i need it to work 85% of the time at least. Thanks In Advance.
When you get back to stock, you will loose your: data, ROM, recovery and bootloader as well. But then you would have a clean tablet that you can unlock again, and install your favourite ROM.

Its headed for stock and staying that way. I need it for work and all the custom roms either do not support the A501's Cell Data. or restart all the time. saddly I will just have to stick with a root and debloat

Try to take a look at Tegraowners.com, it seems that they have a working ROM for A501, give it a chance..

Gave it a try, it no longer randomly restarts but suffers from Sleep Of Death. So again I have a useless tablet. back to stock it goes and most likely for sale as i need newer versions of STABLE android. a device that i have keep awake 8 hours a day for fear it will not wake up is useless and no one is offering any ideas on the tegraowners
Hi there. I am kinda new on these things.
I am at my home right now. I have the time to backup everything.
I am on stock right now , I have started getting a bit of lags here and there.
Should I root and install a custom rom?
And if yes , what is the best combination of kernel and rom for the best performance and battery.

DO NOT INSTALL CUSTOM ROM, if you have to ask that question.
On a serious note, a factory reset will take care of all lags.Rooting is for those who have a spare phone, want to play around and can afford brick sooner or later. Moto has determined stock to be best for all others.

I am not so new dude. I have installed custom roms many a times..on my canvas a1.
On that device , it was good bcoz the device itself wasn't so good.
But this moto g5 plus is a nice phone. That's why I'm asking whether i should install custom rom or not

Acknowledged !! and my apologies.
Rooting and custom roms work well on MotoG+.On some of the latest Oreo roms I was playing around with in the past couple of months, the camera app broke more often than once.If you can live with that in exchange for performance, LineageOS 15 and Pixel Experience roms worked great.
But as with any phone, you have to play around for the best of latest or for stability.
Just my two cents .

What about the battery life?
Can i use greenify etc with these roms?
Thanks for the reply
Install only if a stock firmware higher or equivalent to your current version is available. Else you will not be able to go back to stock. If you attempt to downgrade you will run into problems with bootloaders.

Battery life is pretty good on the custom rom side. All updated ROMs are now Android 8.1 and are 64 bit. I usually get 6-7+ hours screen on time and switch between every rom that's released For battery and customizations I recommend AEX or Validius. Also, you can use greenify on any of the custom ROMs and root with magisk and pass safety net as well. I Also recommend you download from telegram group as those links are updated more often than xda.
Telegram links are:
t.me/g5pluslinks ---> All new ROMs released no chat
t.me/motog5plus ---> Release of new ROMs / kernels but lot of chat too.
t.me/MotoG5PlusStuff ---> Collection of all kinds of camera apps.
Too late. I failed to root. And now my camera doesn't work. :Cries:
Gonna try flashing stock (some 92 version ) which has the Nov patch. Older one failed(downgrade).
Help me if you can. PLEASE.
I can explain everything I did.

I believe that using custom kernel was the fix to that issue, not 100% sure as I never had the issue myself. Also, if you decide to go to a custom rom you won't have that issue (it only affects stock rom). Another option if you want to stick on stock is find the thread on here for TWRP flashable stock ROMs and use latest one for your phone.
I'm not able to select SD card storage in the recovery mode. What's the issue here? How do I fix it?

No problem. Happy I could help.
If possible I would like to avoid messing with custom ROM etc because that's how I bricked my last phone. Is there a safe way to get security update?
If I have to use custom ROM, which one is the most stable and easiest to flash ?
Thank you

No more updates from op so custom ROM is only choice now. The android 11 roms are all pretty stable but alot of them are not getting updates anymore either. Lineage probably has the most updates and will in future. If security updates are your biggest concern that's prolly your best bet
you have to be rooted for that correct?
so any app that needs phone to be un-rooted will not work correct?

Well you don't need to be rooted to use custom ROM. Passing safety net is usually standard on custom roms so most bank apps would work. Even if you wanted to root there is ways with magisk to hide root and still use those apps that detect it.
