Can't make calls and receive them - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

I need help after the OTA January update I almost can't receive any calls, it says my phone is turned off or out of cell reception. The same is when I try to call I just can't get signal and the call is ended. Before those update when I call I can see it switching to 3g and my cell reception is always full now when switch to 3g reception is going down to nothing.
I am 4g preferred mode like before in Oreo I live in Bulgaria and using A1 network.
Basically I have to change preferred network to 2g if I want to call or receive call because if use 4g preferred the phone start to change very slow between 4g 3g and H

[Q] T-mobile Data turning off during a call

I noticed when i am on a phone call, the E or H(aka data tmobile data) turns off while i am in the call and disappears. Then comes back after i end the call. Does anyone else notice this or know how to make it so it stays on even during a call? Also, when wifi is connected the data service turns off?
First off this is normal when your in a 3bars or less 3G/H area. Your phone will switch 2G while on a call if the 3G signal gets low but it won't switch back until the call is ended. Also on 2G/E you can only do one at time, voice or data. T-Mobile's 2G network is stronger than their current 3G network also.
So if your on a call and the H disappears, this means your phone has switch to 2G/E because your 3G/H signal was low. You won't see E on a call since that would be data and 2G can only do one at a time.
If you want to force 3G/H then goto settings, wireless and networks, mobile networks(I believe) and select WCDMA only under network mode. Please note that if you go into a non 3G/H area you will loose complete signal and your phone won't switch to 2g.
and yes wifi disables mobile data.
Good luck.

LTE to 3G/2G Switching after Voice Call

My network doesn't currently support voice over LTE (VoLTE) so everytime I receive a call my signal switches back to 3G (H) or 2G (E). I noticed that after a call, it takes time for my S8 Plus to switch back to LTE. Is there an engineering or advanced configuration settings that can be set so that after a voice call the signal goes back to LTE immediately?
This maybe not an impossible thing because I noticed on some other mobile phone brands that the switching back to LTE signal after a voice call is kinda fast (within 2 to 3 seconds) after a voice call.
Thanks
I had a Sony Xperia Z3c on T-mobile. It was an unlocked phone. When I made a call it would switch to 3g because the phone does not support voice over LTE. Most of the time it would take a while to switch to LTE again unless i went into airplane mode or turned data off for at least 10 seconds OR what seemed like if I was driving maybe it would connect to another tower.
So maybe it's normal with phones that don't have VoLTE?

Hi! I am experiencing faster switching on other brands like Huawei and LG. They switch from 3G or 2G to LTE between 2 to 3 seconds after calls.
And yes, that is correct. I usually switch my phone's airplane mode on and off to get the LTE signal back faster.

it's your service provider problem not S8 problem , i have S8+ and it's back to LTE immediately after call ended .

Cool

Incoming/ Outgoing call problem while on 4G network with no volte support.

I have recently bought the MI A1. While buying itself it was updated to the latest may patch.
The problem is while on 4g network, I cannot receive nor make any phone calls. For calling I have to manually switch to 3g/2g mode from *#*#4636#*#* menu. Is this a normal behavior of this phone as my other phone swiches to 3g while incoming/ outgoing calls and back switches to 4g after the call is finished.
PS: my network doesn't support volte. Phone is manufactured on Feb 2018, it's not modified by any means.
That's not normal behavior.
I've never seen a phone where You have to switch between 3G/4G/LTE for calls and data.
Can You try a SIM-card from another service provider to see if it behaves differently?
If You check at https://willmyphonework.net/ are all bands supported with Your provider?
Or, in worst case of course, try a factory reset and see if that makes any difference...
Set to 3g/4g in *#*#4636#*#* menu.
Airtel doesn't support volte in all circles yet. Only rolled in few circles. In 3g/4g mode, it'll be mostly in 4g mode if nw strength is good & switch to 3g when you call or receive a call

Calling not working in LTE

So I use my sim on roaming and I have been facing this problem that my calls only work when I set mobile network to WCDMA or lower which hence reduces my data speed coz it's 3g. What to do?
4G (LTE) services is a data-only service, and does not support voice (unless it is voice converted to 4G data or VoLTE), hence whenever you're dialling or receiving a call network drops from 4G to 3G. Happens to me all the time on roaming, sometimes even on home network with poor VoLTE connectivity. Nothing to worry about.
