Nexus 7 2012 - Flash Stock + Unroot (soft Bricked/bootloop) issues - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a Nexus 7 2012 that I'm trying to Flash Stock + Unroot (soft Bricked/bootloop) using the Wugfresh NRT.
It keeps failing at the same spot regardless of what stock ROM I try to flash.

Why don't you try sideloading the ROM?

No matter which method I try to Flash a ROM to the device I get an error.

Even when trying to Flash back to stock which I downloaded from the Official Google site I get this error for all versions:-

First update your TWRP. Are you using the correct ROM? Which version of the Tab are you having? Download the correct ROM and then flash it.

That's what I have been doing, the ROM's are for my device.
Nexus 7 2012 (WiFi).

looks like you're using OTG USB to flash stock
you should boot to bootloader, connect to PC and flash stock firmware from there...

Hi,
I tried that via NRT and it still gives errors.

It seems you have CWM or some such installed over the stock recovery, just flash the recovery to stock or use CWM and flash to 4.2.1 that way

Have you manually altered any system files or manually installed or overwritten a system app? That gives me the same error.

I take it when you originally flashed to CWM, you never backed up your stock recovery? If not then you can flash back to stock with the "nakasig" image from here - https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasig scroll down to Nexus 7.
Same problem but not rooted
I got the same problem aswell. Altough i did never root my Nexus 7. I got this error as fast as i wanted to update the device. i have tried to push the update to it via the computer via android sdk (Manual update) It wont work. I get the error following "Assert failed: apply_patch_check (emmc:/Dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by_name/lynx 500736" and so on. The version is "JZO54K". The Nexus 7 model is a 32 gb WIFI version. Any solution?

What baseband/firmware were you on before? If you had the MJA baseband and firmeware on up you can't downgrade to MF9 firmware

Your odin flashing sequence failed. Repeat the odin flash procedure with that screen up until successful. Make sure you're plugged into at least a usb2.0 port on your computer, and using the original usb cable that came with the phone.
If you're unsure of what baseband you originally had, your best bet is to flash the latest firmware
If you can't get the latest tar to install using odin, try to run cf autoroot through odin. It has been known to fix that error,
The OP should really come back online and let us know of he has been able to fix the problem.

[Q] Need help about updating my phone

Hello guys,
I've got a phone by a friend (N4) which is everything on stock but it has francos kernel. Now, because he wants to update to the 5.0.1 version he gets this error message in recovery:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So, can I just flash the stock kernel via fastboot and I'm done?
Are you trying to flash a ROM using the stock recovery? If so you're never going to have any luck trying to flash anything other than official stock zips, install TWRP/CWM (TWRP is my personal recommendation) and download the flashable stock 5.0.1 from the Android Development section!

Looks like he's trying to flash the ota update. In order to flash the ota you need to be 100% stock kernel, system, and recovery. Try what Bbeanss suggested, but you'll need to flash twrp. If he's stock except for the kernel flashing the stock kernel should work.

Yes, it is on KK.
How are you updating? Are you using OTA(a notification that tells you that there is an update available)? Or are you flashing factory images via fastboot?

Is your bootloader unlocked? If so have you rooted or installed a custom recovery?
I would flash stock 4.4.4 system partition image in fastboot and give the ota another go.

How to install a new ROM in the current state of my phone?

I want to install a ROM of the latest android version. I installed a custom ROM a long time ago, I honestly don't remember what I did. I think I used "wug's tool" or something like that. Here's what my phone says:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Where it says GT-I9505G, I don't think it said that originally, when I got this custom ROM it changed to that. It's an AT&T phone (U.S). I'm not very knowledgeable about this, I usually just follow tutorials.
So what method should I use? Any tutorials, links? ROM recommendations?
Thanks.
It's important to know which bootloader is on the phone before flashing anything.
I suggest installing Samsung phone info app from the play store to find the version. Once you know the version, then you can decide how to proceed.

Add screenshots of the app to check it better.
Since he already flashed a custom rom, I don't think the bootloader is locked anymore.
In theory, you just need to flash a custom recovery (TWRP recommended) then you should be able to flash pretty much any I9505 roms.
I agree that it is unlikely that the bootloader is locked but I believe it is always good to know which bootloader is on a phone before flashing anything.
if Wi-Fi or network signal isn't good on any new rom you try you'll need to change the bootloader if you want to update the modem/baseband.
I installed the latest version of TWRP since mine was outdated. I did a full wipe as instructed in the ROM's page but TWRP refuses to install the ROM after. I keep getting "Updater process ended with ERROR: 7" "Error installing zip file [location of my file/file name]". I am without OS.
