Any chance to use an USB DVB-T DONGLE with NEXUS PLAYER?
Maybe. You want "TV" on your Set top box ?
Software is the tricky part. Does this work ? : http://www.geniatech.com/pa/pt115m.asp
I recall a decent thread here on XDA somewhere but can't find it right now and seem to recall the app wasn't going anywhere too fast.
And there's at least one 3 star app on Play, but doesn't work for many people.
I'll be happy just to get FM radio, with SDR Touch or whatever...
thanks, can be a thing like that but I want to use any usb dongle that I want and not a single choose like that.
For example I'v build for my daily use, a mini barebone with a small debian distro with VDR, in this way I can play divx and dvb-t as I want but, if my dongle usb dvb-t for any reason broke........I can buy the first dongle usb that I found on any market online, compile kernel module for that dongle and put in usb port it, it's so simple.......
I love nexus player, 99$ about, remote control, android marke, playing game, youtube, and more infinite possibility, but at TV DVB side I want be free to use any usb dongle DVB for desktop pc as I made today
There's any chance to get, nexus player kernel, enable DVB module for dongle, put inside usb port of nexus player, and watch tv?
At software side, is need an app or Android TV S.O. is capable to manage DVB correctly?
Thanks in advance!
Do you have any other Android devices? If you're already comfortable recompiling a kernel to support your hardware, I'd suggest trying that on a different Android device first. Then you would know if the Android framework could handle such a device.
EDIT: Here's a link to the Android TV developer site about supporting live TV in Android TV. It appears it's designed around that being possible, so if you can add your tuner hardware support to the kernel I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to make it work within Android.
ok tnx
I am using a rooted tablet with Android 5.1 which is manufactured by a Small company and looks like MTK Chipset.
I rooted the tablet and edited the build prop to get the cast settings, but it is not letting me connect to miracast.
It does a search or available screens but whenever I try to connect it its stops in between.
Please help in connecting it to a Miracast device.

The above video is my review, i have it working great with my ownice c200 headunit. the usb seems to register that to the iPhone that it is a CarPlay device. the CarPlay UI apparently is stored and sent from the iPhone its self to the usb dongle and then sent to the android app. the app then sends touch and audio commands back to the usb dongle and then to the iPhone.
i can send photos of the internals of the device to any one who wants and a link to the APK.
MOD EDIT: removed email address and mention of selling head units. XDA is not a place to make money!
great !!!

Can you send me?
New firmware update allowing the box application to work in the background.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0Bym9XrdeViekOTF1VWRoaTlkb1E?usp=sharing
First Step: updating the CAR PLAY USB DONGLE
Plug in the car play usb dongle on the PC, copy the "update.bin" file under the root of the dongle, no extra file folder and no any operation, just wait for 5 minutes, it will be quit automatically after updating, then pull off the USB dongle.
Second Step: Uninstall the old version ZBOX softare from the car audio, then intall the new one, then it will be ok to work.(With the new APK in the attachment and follow the manual)

The issue you are experiencing with the zbox having 'stage-fright' has to do with the power requirements of the zbox device. Some USB bus' don't provide enough power (or borderline) so functionality is intermittent. If you use a powered USB hub, that provides additional power to the USB ports, you'll have almost no issues.
I have connected a y USB adapter.
Has anyone tried one of these on a PX3 RK3166 head unit?
I have one but cant get it to work.
It connects to the apk but wont connect to the iphone.
Tried the update to firmware and apk, still no joy.
Not sure if i have a faulty dongle or it's a compatibility issue with these head units.
Alibaba seller suggested not enough power on head units usb?
I have the same problem with one of these.....
I have tried three android units now and I still can’t get them to work....
Android 4.4 it says its connect but the iPhone just shows as not found....
The other two are both 6.0.1 and the zbox just shows connecting all the time!
If any one has any help it would greatfully be received..
Or for that matter any software updates.....
Mine is showing apk: 2.1.0
Zbox versions: 2.1.0
Many thanks and kind regards
Mine works and I have a px3. I updated the device and installed the latest zbox app before I tried it. I would try swapping out cords and making sure they are certified by Apple. The only issue I have with mine is that it cannot be controlled from the steering wheel.

I use a second usb-plug and a y-cable to provide sufficient power to the device.
What do you guys do with regards to phone calls? My phone is obviously paired to the head unit via Bluetooth, so whenever I get a Call, it jumps out of CarPlay/zbox to the Stock phone interface, however the phone still transmits the audio to carplay and not via Bluetooth by default.
How any of you solved that problem?
If you are using CarPlay why do you have Bluetooth paired? Every car I've been in with CarPlay diconnects the phone from Bluetooth.

Is there also a solution for Android Auto on Android Head Units ?

I have an Eonon GA7157 running a:
CPU: Allwinner R16 1.6GHz Cortex A7 Quad-Core
RAM: SAMSUNG DDR3, 1GB
Storage: 16GB
I have tried App and Firmware 2.x and 3.x. No joy. All I get is "Connecting" when the usb dongle and app is started. It never gets passed this "Connecting..." stage. USB devices like keyboards, mice, USB Flash drives, and even video camera work fine on this headunit. The Zbox Z1 and an OTA tuner don't work for some reason.
I did some more troubleshooting and found out the following: The dongle works perfectly on my PC running Remix. I also tried it on Samsung Table A; on this one, same symptom as the head unit, so I tried using an OTG cable and what do you know, it worked perfectly.
Therefore, I have 2 possible explanations: The headhunt's USB cable needs to be hardwire as OTG or Eonon somehow has decided to block certain type of USB devices that request data asynchronously. Why? I have not clue... I wish I could disable this flag in the OS, but I have not clue where it can be done. My headunit is rooted, so it should be possible in theory.
Hello, could you post pictures of the internals? I'm very curious what's inside the lil dongle. Also: do you still have some of the dongles? haha

You can buy one for $75 from Aliexpress. There is a video of the internals: check this out:

Hey, can someone help me to find the Zbox Z APK 3.0 to Download in English?
I have the 3.0 in Chinese only. And the 2.1 doesn’t work. My Firmware is 3.0
Whenever the onscreen keyboard comes up, I can't type on Onn Android TV 4K box with Rii i4 keyboard connected through bluetooth. The mouse pad works fine, and the arrow keys and a few navigation keys work, but can't type numbers or text. Oddly, when I run Microsoft Remote Desktop 8 app (sideloaded) and connect to a PC, the keyboard acts as expected and everything works. Anything I can try to make this thing work in Android TV apps?
well I just got the same keyboard. It works on PC via BT and dongle) but to some (most?) android PHONES looks like the letters part of the keybaord (anything under the numbers) wont work.
Some people posted that only works if you set the language to korean. Sounds like they mapped the letters to korean symbols and android does not like that. If I use a type-c to usb and the dongle, it works but definitely is not ideal.
I'm thinking if I will return it or not...
If you haven't already returned it, I have been having the same issue since I got my Rii i4 a month ago.
RiiTek have just released a firmware update that fixed the issue on Android, but it is a bit convoluted as you need to install a OTA update software on Android and it took me a few goes to understand the process (http://www.riitek.com/support/download.html)
Also the OTA update software does not seem to properly scan bluetooth with Android 12, luckily I have an older Samsung S7 phone with Android 9 lying around, once I did the firmware update, works perfectly now. (I did have to unpair and pair it again with my Galaxy Tab S7)
Thanks for the link to the update. What a pain it was. Didn't work on my Onn Android TV 4K box, nor did it work on my Samsung Galaxy S10e. Both complained about being for an older Android version. Good thing I had an old LG G2 laying around, I was able to update the keyboard with that. The result is the problems are completely resolved on an Android phone, but the Onn Android TV 4K box now doesn't work with it at all. Nothing works, not touchpad, directional keys, nor letter keys. Nothing. It will pair successfully (which I tried pair/re-pair many times), but nothing works at all, so I'm worse off than before and it's completely unusable trash now.
Maybe I can salvage it by getting some kind of cable so I can plug its dongle into the TV box and forget about bluetooth altogether.
It complained even on my Galaxy S7 about it being for an older Android version, but it still worked. Seems the S10/Note10 with Android 12 and newer Bluetooth had an issue with the OTA software doing the Bluetooth scan. Glad you got it working, hope this helps others as it is a cool little keyboard to use in bed with my Tablet
Strange for the TV box, I haven't got one of those, and my Sony TV with Android I have a Logitech TV Keyboard plugged in with the USB dongle. This Rii i4 also has a 2.4G dongle, doesn't the Android TV box have some USB ports on the back?
Problem is I bought it to use with the Onn TV box, and after the firmware update, it doesn't work with the Onn at all. At least the navigation keys worked before, now nothing works.
I would downgrade back, but the old firmware isn't available anywhere.

Bummer, sorry to hear that - you have definitely set it to BlueTooth mode when connected to the Onn TV Box? I assume the firmware just changed the keyboard language, so I am really surprised it stopped working totally with the Onn box - maybe a factory reset of the Onn box?
I had a quick google of the Onn TV box, looks like you have a USB power port and the HDMI port, but also sounds like people have been attaching a powered USB hub to the USB port to plug in Ethernet and have more USB ports to use. I know that is probably another $20 and more cables, but that might be an option then to use the 2.4Ghz adaptor.
For me I wanted to get it working with the tablet so I don't have to use the on-screen keyboard when lying in bed, it was a bit more challenging to add a USB C to USB A adaptor for the dongle
Yep, definitely Bluetooth mode, blue LED. I did try it on the LG G2 and Galaxy S10e to make sure it wasn't completely bricked, and it did work completely fine on those.
I saw the special USB cable to add a USB port to the Onn TV box are pretty cheap on eBay ($2.52) so I'll try one of those since I really want to avoid having to try a factory reset. Hopefully that will solve all my problems.
I know this is an old post, Yet thought this may help someone else out with the Onn 4k Android TV Box, I had the Rii Mini i8+ laying around and tried bluetooth connection, It didn't play well, Looked in the back tray on it and I had a dongle, Plugged that into the OTG cable, Right away noticed the Rii functioning, Everything seems to be working properly.
Yeah, I bought an OTG cable with splitter for $1.94 on Aliexpress, plugged in the dongle, and it did the job and connects instantly. The only annoyance is the Backspace key goes back instead of the backspace function, so I have to move the cursor in front of the character I want to remove and hit delete.
