I am having a problem with my bluetooth headset and my Mi A1, which I bought recently.
When the bluetooth is paired, no ringtone is coming out of the device on incoming calls, just on my headset,
which means I get a lot of missed calls since I don't have the bluetooth in my ear all day long.
All sound settings are on and on high volume.
I have tried 5 or 6 different roms. Same problem with all of them.
The bluetooth headset (Xiaomi Mi Headset Basic) worked perfectly on my previous phone (HTC M7).
I also paired it to another Xiaomi phone (Mi Max 2) and it worked perfectly as well.
I tried to pair another bluetooth headset (PLT E500) with the Mi A1 and it had the same problem with the incoming calls.
No ringtone.
Any suggestions?
On some roms you can choose to make it so the ring tone rings from the phone and not headset even when it's paired, maybe it's in stock too. Maybe there's an magisk or xposed module

You are right, I haven't this option too with the latest February Pie update. But my old Nexus 5X with 8.1.0 still have it (Enable in-band ringing):

I reread your OP carefully and I am very surprised by your problem.
Because for me the ringtone is coming out of my Mi A1 or Nexus 5X (both with the latest stock ROM and stock dialer) when bluetooth headset is connected and I remember that this has always been this way from Nougat through Oreo till Pie now. Tested with Plantronics Explorer 50 and Jabra Elite Active 65t.
Funny thing is that I wanted the opposite, to have silent ring on device when wearing BT headset, because I have my BT headset switched on only when I am actively using it so it would not be a problem for me to have sound only in the headset when I am actively use it.
I'm yet on 8.1 stock rom, i don't want to upgrade yet on 9, and i have similar problem.
I have two bluetooth handsfrees, one Xiaomi and Platronics. The problem is the same with both of them.
When is connected to Mi A1 if i receive a normal call the smartphone will ring on the smartphone and on the headset normally.
If i receive a call via apps (What'sApp, Viber etc) then the smartphone doesn't ring even on the smartphone or the bluetooth headset...
I have search it and could found any solution yet...
I have the same problem from the Android 8 and now continue the same problem and on Android 9 and i have two bluetooths headsets one Xiaomi and one Plantronics. I can't find any solution...
I have reported this and at Xiaomi with build-in report problem App two times on both versions...
Can you please suggest for this problem?
I am also facing same issue with boat Bluetooth 255 headset.
Not able to listen phone rings.
I m on latest oct pie update
Problem Resolved. On connecting Bluetooth, Sounds options changed in sound setting.

I have the same issue with redmi 4a with pixel experience rom
When connected to bluetooth headset, can't hear the phone ringing, the phone vibrates
But I can hear all other notifications and sounds, but can't hear the phone ringing..
I have the same thing on Mi A2 Lite. No ringing tone on incoming Whatsapp, Signal calls, when phone connected with bluetooth headset. All other notifications (messages etc) audiable. How did you bypass this?

I have now tried 3 different bluetooth headsets with my AT&T Tilt with Stock Rom. First was my BlueAnt V12 I used great with my RAZR then I bought a Motorola S705 now I have Sony HBH-DS980.
With the BlueAnt V12 the audio was low and tinny and couldn't hear the caller
The Motorola S705 sounded good minor choppiness but the callers couldn't hear me worth a damn. Both of these devices paired great and kept connection, only the Motorola would loose connection if I got a system alarm or if I was streaming music. For just handset operation it worked great. With the Sony it seems to be a crap shoot when they are going to work. I installed JetWare to enable Caller ID Name and Ringtone through headset and when I pair them the first time they work great all day long. However if I turn bluetooth off on the phone and then back on I have issues with disconnecting and sound not going through headset for calls.
So I installed the new Official AT&T Rom from HTC's Site the other day hoping the bluetooth improvements they made would help. I decided to try JetWare again just to see if it worked, again I started having problems again. So I hard reset and didn't install the JetWare Extensions. For the first day everything worked great. Next day I fired it up it's up to it's old tricks of disconnecting after a call.
Anyone else having these issues? My state is going to be bluetooth only while driving in about 4 months so I really need bluetooth to work.
Can you charge the sony ds980 via usb?
No it has a real strange plug for charging
Hi, I have the Sony Ds980. I've experienced similar problems in the past.
check your Bluetooth settings on the phone: communication manager --> Settings --> bluetooth. Select your device (ds-980) but don't double click on it. and then check its mode: in that window, ensure that you have checkmarks in both options (i.e, Turn on bluetooth & make sure this device is visible to other devices). Sometimes, when you restart your bluetooth headset, the second option is left unchecked, thus causing disconnections between it and the device.
another option is to trigger the headset button. sometimes, when a call comes in, I would have to do this once or twice before it connects.
I think it is a bug.
i have the Jetware extension and MSVoice, and they help with the caller ID.
HTH,
rgds, Manny
I'm trying to decided between the DS980 and the Moto S9.
I'm so tired of wasting my money on crap.
Thanks I'll have a look at those settings, I just wish JetWare uninstalled nicely
I have been running it lately without JetWare and the only issue I am having this way is the wireless stereo portion disconnects after each Incoming call it does not do this if I place a call.
With JetWare I can sometimes keep it connected no matter what the issue is it connects but when I place a test call it rings on the headset but when I answer the call it isn't comming in on the headset it is still on the phone although the call button works and ringing on the headset works. It got to be a pain to have to place a few test calls to make sure the headset was working.

Well, that does it for me. The DS980 is officially off my list.
Hey, is anyone using the bluetooth headset Jabra BT8040, When I first bought the headset, I had no problems using it. But I've noticed a few months ago, that whenever I use the device, the person I'm calling wont be able to hear me but I can hear them. Anyone have any ideas to solve this problem?
Similar problems
I've got the same earpiece and I've had some problems with it, including: unable to pair (or saying it's paired when it really isn't), unable to connect the BT on a call, and sometimes the earpiece will just disconnect from the phone (but the call will still remain active).
That last one is the closest I've come to your issue. I usually have to put the phone in discovery mode (and the earpiece) and try repairing them from scratch.
I've heard from others with this earpiece that they haven't had problems, but I don't know anyone who has this earpiece and the Raphael. Also, I've got the Motorola S9 bt headphones and I haven't had any problems with them. So, I'm not 100% it's the earpiece but then again it could be.
i have this jabra for about 6 months and had no problem at all with Raphael!
Changed ROM
I've just changed the ROM on my phone (as in signature line) so that may change things for me with the Jabra BT.

I'm using the updated ROM and radio in my signature line with the Jabra BT8060 (wasn't it? whatever the one we were talking about in this post is) as well as a Motorola S9 and I pair it with my laptop for internet access that way. So far I have not had the same troubles with the Jabra BT as I used to. It could be due to updated drivers for the BT or the fact that I'm not using TF3D (just the new WM6.5 interface).
Either way, I'm having good results so far.
I spoke too soon on BT...
I've spoken too soon on BT. I was trying to get my Motorola S9 working so I could listen to music from my phone. No luck at all - it shows the S9 connected for both the calls and the the music, but it only works on calls and the music plays on the device with the speaker. And it was working just fine this morning. Bluetooth in general is so frustrating to me that I would literally remove it from every costom ROM I use EXCEPT for "Internet Sharing" (on an Acer laptop and netbook) over bluetooth and activesync with a PC. Not just with this phone, but seriously, with BT 2.0 it should work A LOT BETTER than it does.
I have similar issues with several different Moto H700's. I can hear them but they can not hear me. Possibly the BT drivers from HTC need a fix????
hello guys ..
after flashing so many rom's i have tried to connect my bluetooth headset .. but can't hear the phone calls and the music as well the bluetooth head phones is working on the htc desire official rom and its not working on my samsung galaxy s rooted.. Any Ideas?
did you pair the headset to the phone?
I have been using bluetooth first day I had the phone and never had any problem. Well...1 slight problem. The bluetooth will drop the connection sometimes during the day, and I have to manually pair them again when that happens. This is quite irritating though as I usually found out when someone called and I cannot answer using the headset. I take all calls using the headset BTW. I am using the SE DS980 headset.

When you go to the bluetooth settings, click-hold your bluetooth headset until the context menu pop-up, select options. Do you see a tick on the "Phone"?

then try another ROM if you used a custom rom
I use a bluetooth stereo headset for when i go jogging, no problems. Is your headset a certified headset? (not samsung certified, but Bluetooth certified) Does it support V2 +? If not then its not compatible as the SGS supports from bluetooth 2 to 3
Hello guys,
I have a Redmi 3s with MIUI 7.12.7 dev (xiaomi.eu)
from long time ago, when i use bluetooth headset (now i am using an xiaomi one) and try to make a call, when i hear the people im calling answer my call, i can't hear them clearly and so are they. I can hear the sound like (hello: h...ll..o) so i can't hear what are they saying.
I change the bluetooth headset, same problem. I take that headset and connect to my Mi5, and i can hear everything normally.
When i use bluetooth headset to listen to music, everything is good, no disruption like when i make a call
I tried to disable VolTE but the same poor quality call happen ( Im using 2G network only)
What is the problem with this 3S phone?

I dont think it's network issue because when i don't use bluetooth headset, call quality is normal.
And when i use this headset to listen to music, everything is smooth, no problem like when i make a call

I have exact the same issue with my Redmi3S. I tried two different BT headsets, thinking it might be a problem in them. I've also tried a LineageOS, with same issue. Yesterday I returned again to original MIUI 9 (global 9.2.2.0 stable MALMIEK). Today I figured out it happens ONLY if my WiFi connection is switched on. If I switch my WiFi connection off (even in the middle of call), then is sound OK
edit: I use 4G network
I'm almost sure it is not headset's problem. I have similar problem with different headsets on Redmi 3s and Redmi Note 4x but never on old Nokia.
Must check wifi state during the call, maybe have wifi switched on... But as it happens also in a car wifi is not connected for sure.
Has anyone been able to do this on our Lavender phones? If so, please provide instructions on how this is done and what headset you are using.
I work outside and my hands are usually full or dirty, so it would be great to hear the name of the person who is calling me through my Bluetooth headset. At the moment I only hear the phone number, even when the person calling me is in my phone contacts, so I have to take out my phone and look at the screen to see who is calling.
I've been Googling for ages and tried several apps but still can't get it to work over Bluetooth. Actually, I've never been able to do this on any Android device but I'm sure it's possible!
I'm currently on the latest Pixel Experience custom ROM and I've tried with several headsets, including Jabra, Sony and cheap Chinese Bluetooth 5.0 devices.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Anyone?
Solved!
OK.
So, in case anyone's also interested in this....
I eventually found a solution using Tasker and BlueTask plugin.
I can confirm this definitely works on Lavender Android 10 custom ROM and a cheap Chinese Bluetooth 5.0 headset.
My headset announces the phone number of the caller automatically and this can't be turned off, so I've set a delay in Tasker of a few seconds so the caller name is announced after the number.
The ROM I'm using (Pixel Experience) supports Bluetooth in-band ringing, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but in theory this solution should work on any decent ROM and Bluetooth headset or car kit. :good:
I have installed tasker and bluetask...please explain how to do this
