Google quietly removes Android One’s main selling point? - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Guides, News, & Discussion

Is it true?

What? I hope it's not true...

Google Pixel 3 lite is almost ready (quietly), rendering all android one products a direct competitor? I'm glad. Google gave like 3 years for the cheap to come up with something consistent. Yet all we got was bugs and incompetent support. (and before someone beheads me, i own other branded android one phones too, not just xiaomi). My two cents.

So what?
In that case, we`ll use custom ROM`s.

Samsung will not build the next nexus... heres proof...

Ok i have complete proof that samsung will not build the next nexus device after the galaxy nexus.... it will be motorola but not for the reason you think...
OK these are the makes of the google phones from google...
HTC: G1
Nexus
Samsung: Nexus S/4g
Galaxy Nexus
notice something? thats right each company only makes 2 devices and google moves on...
now we know that google bought moto for the patents? or did they? I have heard claims google may close source android and have offical android devices from moto only... see this: http://www.neowin.net/news/rumor-google-to-use-motorola-merger-to-launch-its-own-phones
so i think that this can be good news... end of all these crappy low end android devices with no memory... an android phones needs atleast 300mb free storage when we purchase a low end phone and even the prevail by samsung only has about 150mb free or so... what a shame...

while your arguments are valid, you do not have any proof.
It makes no sense. The Google's goal is to reach more people with advertising and by closing Android's source it would limit their target. The current system, tho it's not perfect for updates, it's the most profitable for Google.
I don't say that the next Nexus phone won't be manufactured by Motorola, but i srsly doubt that Google will close the doors to the other OEM's. Point being, Goggle will keep Android open sourced and will use Motorola for their patents. Using Moto to build Google experience phones is just an added bonus.
This has to be the most ridiculously illogical post I have seen on these forums. Google choose HTC initially because it was the big player in android, then they choose samsung when it had become the biggest player.
They might choose some other OEM this time but it has nothing to do with the series of 2 phones. You talk as if nexus phones have been made for decades with new OEM being chosen every 2 years lol.
Your data sets are too small for you to say that it's proof. What you have is that HTC made 2 Google phones and then Samsung made 2 google phones.
but wait.
The HTC G2 was a pure google phone, that puts HTC at 3 Google phones. The original motorola Droid was a google phone, that puts them in the mix with one. In terms of pure Nexus devices, it's HTC 1, and Samsung 2. In terms of pure Google experience, HTC has at least 3, Motorola has at least 1 and Samsung has at least 2. That's also assuming I'm forgetting a device or two, which I probably am.
Therefore, there is no pattern and the next Nexus will likely remain in Samsung's corner since it's based on who bids the most and not on "who's made what". Samsung will likely outbid everyone this year and it will like be the samsung galaxy nexus s or something absurd. I'd rather have a Moto Nexus personally (hey why not, give them a swing at it) and have it not be a Verizon exclusive, but that's a pipe dream.
and lets not forget about the google ion, that was a google developers phone made by htc http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/27/google-ion-hands-on-and-unboxing/
Lol. This makes no sense.

Youre right, HTC makes Sense
Companies send contestant devices in and Google picks the winner. Nothing more.
Motorola almost won last year.

the orginal htc g1 was the very first android phone thus a developers phone and then htc did the nexus one.... then samsung has done two so now its time for someone else to make it... moto since google owns them they keep it in house.. and close sourcing it has made apple a ton of money and i dont have any adds on my programs as i only purchase apps that have no adds and only install free apps without adds... so google is not really making any money off of me on the adds. i use my laptop for that sort of thing... i use my phone for news and some games from gameloft that are paid. also most cellphone operating systems last about ten years and android is about 5 years old so i think its about time google thinks about that look at palm os then look at rim... what does that tell you at the 10 year or so mark they go down for the count... apple will too so will android... so what is next?
Google has already said they don't choose how many each company will make. Each company submits a phone for evaluation as the next Nexus and they decide which it'll be. Therefore, the next Nexus could be from Samsung again, Asus, HTC, Acer, Huawei, Motorola, or really any other manufacturer quite honestly. At the end of the day, I'd be quite surprised if it was anyone but the Big 3 (Sammy, HTC, and Motorola) or Asus since all 4 make the better, higher end phones. I COULD also see LG being a viable candidate, but their offerings so far have, to me, been lackluster and, whilst Sammy doesn't have Moto-quality builds of aluminium and such, LG seems even lower than Sammy build quality-wise.
Build quality- Moto>HTC>Asus>Sammy>LG
Screen quality- Sammy>HTC>LG>Asus>Moto
Internals- Sammy (more cutting edge, Exynos), Asus (Tegra 3), and HTC (also Tegra 3 and Snapdragon S4) all win here.
HTC also made the ION developer phone, the G2 was also a Google stock phone, etc, so there goes your 2 phones theory. And i explained you already why making Android Closed Source would be a bad move to Google.
Just because you don't see adds in your phone doesn't mean the other thousands of people do the same. Google is getting their money from advertising, so they need the biggest audience target as possible. And where did you get the theory about the 10 years SO?
Symbian for example was first released in 2001 and still sells like hotcakes on dumbphones. Windows Mobile was first released also around 2000 and just recently got discontinued due to windows phone 7 (granted it wasn't selling). iOS will probably suffer a UI change but it still will make a strong competitor for the next years and Android has so much space to improve and is in so many markets besides smartphones, that it won't go away anytime soon.
What's next just depends on the best technology offers at the best price.
Maybe nexus phones are more of a Google showing the manufacturer how make android phones. Also I believe they could never close source of android and license it. Pretty sure Microsoft got fined for having free services and once competition died off they started charging for it

just because someone sells the most does not mean they are the best. it could be that samsung has carriers that offer their phones dirt cheap like the prevail on boost mobile... also look at general motors company... alot of crap products but they do outsell all the others... but does that mean they are they best.. no they offer a ton of rebates and low prices.... samsung does have some great phones like the galaxy s line but only a few.

I don't think Huawei poses any threat to Samsung.
6.1-inch , seriously? I don't think it will attract many buyers. Besides - Huawei , emmm no thank's
Thaaaaat's what they said about the Note!
This device if released with said specs would outstrip the Note2.
For a number of reasons it wont sell @ Samsungs #'s tho.

Look how successful Huawei's been so far. They've announced a half-dozen high-spec phones that have been months late or disappeared after they were announced. The phone's they've released trail everyone else's with similarly spec'd SoC's by a wide margin. And people ***** about the speed and quality of Samsung and HTC's updates. What do you expect from Huawei? They could be the next rising star like Hyundai or end up like the Yugo. You go first. I'll sit on the sideline's and watch.
I really don't think it will match up to the build quality and refinement that the Note 2 has. Huawei have a history of building cheap phones. I remember I once compared my old Desire Z to one of their phones which had a similar spec(huawei ideos x5) and it just felt poorer overall compared to the desire z which is much older and clocked 200mhz lower. The audio quality was poor, the stock rom is plain and after 8 months components on the X5 started dying beginning with the digitiser. In my opinion Huawei will only have an edge over the GN2 when it comes to screen size. As for the rest I highly doubt they'll make it efficient enough to beat the GN2.
For some the size of the Ascend Mate might be a put off.

I don't know why there are so many brand loyalists here, competition is good for the consumer. There is nothing competing with the galaxy note 2 in the large phone market, if Samsung were to rest on their laurels, I don't think it would evolve as quick as it could. I hope huawei and others making competing handsets so we the consumer get a better product.

The question of buying a Huawei phone has nothing to do with brand loyalty. My last phone was a Teg3 One X that I was very happy with. I got the Note II because of its features. If HTC, Motorola, or Sony made something similar to the N2 I'd consider it. Just because people have no desire to be guinea pigs for the supposed high-end Chinese phones made by Huawei and Meizu doesn't mean their fanboys or fangirls of another manufacturer. Where do you think people that bought Isuzu SUV's and Suzuki cars are getting them serviced now that both have abandoned the U.S. market? Want to support competition against Samsung? Buy a device from one of the existing manufacturers struggling to compete against them rather than some state-funded Chinese conglomerate looking to enter the market with cheap (for the category) devices.

Well... this device may have good specs.... but the S Pen is the reason why I'm picking the note 2
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
Seriously, Chinese designers have no clue what the consumers demand. It is small things that matters most. If..and that is a big IF, they wanted to compete with the NoteII, they should have made it a 5.6 or 5.8inches. It already has a 1080P screen and 2GB..totally unecessary for a 6.1inch? I just dont get them sometimes. I personally would never buy any of those Chinese branded phones. They are years behind in R&D due to cheap labor and corners being cut.

[Discussion] Android 7.1 with witch Features for Nexus?

Hey dudes,
yesterday we have seen the new Android 7.1 Nugat on the new Pixel Smartphones. Whitch features will come to the Nexus Device? Will we only have the new Google Assistent? Or could we get the new Fingerprint Sensor Controlls and Nightshift?
I hope we will see some features for our Nexus Devices. Nexus 5X and 6P are quite good Devices and I hope Google don´t forget this.
Chris.K
According to Android Police, we're supposed to be getting fingerprint gestures in 7.1 alongside Pixel phones.

Google is laughting at nexus users. Enjoy the Developer preview nexus program to only improve and update the pixels.
I feel Google have walked out the door and slammed it in our faces a little.
Nexus is the red headed stepchild now, pixel is the darling child with a pony.
Give pixel users the support, services bonuses (photos etc) and hardware specific things but Nexus users should get all the software benefits the same inc assistant, launcher buttons and so on and timely updates. We understand they've moved on but a lot of their customers that chose Nexus specifically are still locked into a contract for another 1-2 years and so will be left pining for their attention.
Waiting for an unspecified time in the next 3 months for a developer preview of something the pixel phones have is not a good view of the future.
The Nexus Line won't get the Google Assistent!

I hope someone will Port the Pixel Rom to Nexus 5X/Nexus 6P.
You know, for the longest time I have been thinking that iPhone loyalists were some of the most jaded people on the planet. Then Google came and pulled this out and now I KNOW that Nexus fanboys are right there in that same category. Bunch of whiny babies. They killed the Nexus line because it's purpose has run it's course. They release a NEW line of devices that's aimed at the mass market of consumers (like Samsung, iPhone, HTC, LG, etc. owners) and everyone loses their minds because their favorite toy has come to an end. The Pixel line is an EVOLUTION of the Nexus line, not just a replacement. It's been what they've been building towards since the OG Nexus One. Of course you're not gonna get the same features.
Then everybody wants to ***** about being "left behind" with these updates. When you buy a Nexus, you're guarenteed OS support for up to two years. Guess what? You're STILL getting updates for up to two years. So what, you're salty that you're no longer getting the update first? Too bad. The game changed with the Pixel devices, so get used to it. It's the SUCCESSOR to the Nexus line. If you don't like it, jump ship. You won't be missed. And Google isn't going to lose money over it.

Pixel Launcher is available. The Round Icons come with Android 7.1. I'm just hoping, that we will get the Google Assistant.
"Pixel Launcher is available." Well.. Yes and no. I mean officially like Google Now Launcher
I just buy this mobile phone for 2 weeks ago. I was so thrilled for gesture of finger print and now? Oh my god,
Previous year i bought lg g3 i was like little kid: "omg nice phone oh Lg is great company i will get a new feature in next version of android nice " i says in my mind, but no Qualcomm says we couldn't developed drivers for snapdragon 801 for android 7.0 and gues what? That Why I buy nexus phone. For Next time maybe i will by iphone one, im not fan of apple but what about theirs support? All iphone from iphone 5 since iphone 7 get ios10.0 with same features.... Sorry about that im writing about apple. And sorry for my English im not good in languages.
EDIT: When i was bought nexus I don't knew about pixel phone, maybe its my bad luck
Pixel Launcher, Google Assistant, unlimited photo/vídeo backup and smart storage. Why make this exclusive features to Pixel Phones? These things are possible to put in any phone, hardware limitations are not the problem in this case. If they do this to sell Pixels, what a big failure? I wouldn't buy a phone for this features. Hope they revert their stupid decision and add it to Nexus phones.
Enviado de meu Nexus 5X usando Tapatalk
I understand the brand building and making Pixel unique with added value. What I don't understand is abandoning the Nexus line. And abandoning the developer phone concept.
It's like they abandon the developer community in sone way.
People here contributed the google experience through android with many-many ideas. Also many developers use nexus devices to test their product at the first place.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think there opens a gap that needs to be filled.

Locked into what contract? That is a consumer decision, not a Google one.
I didn't get my Nexus from a carrier, no contract, paid for it up front. Works just fine on the same carrier of the phone I replaced it with still sitting in a box as a backup emergency phone.
If I want to spend $649+ for a new phone in a few weeks, then I just get it.
That is a lot of money though... right now everything is on hold as the status of root is, but that is a different decision and issue.
Why is that Googles issue? If people can't afford it, they won't buy it.

Sit down Terrance - I just bought another 5x 3 weeks ago and the ad didnt say "support for 2 years" it said "get the latest and greatest first"
Instead what I am going to get is akin to a Samsung Galaxy product with a to be determined watered down version at some point in the future. The Pixel and Pixel Xl aren't successors, they are 5X+ and 6P+ in a new body with software the only defining feature of mention and the doubling of the price, that's the very definition of a screwing
Nice try with the "run it's course" - the pixel phones serve the exact same purpose as the nexus phones - to highlight android or presumably the soon to be ultimate fckfest, andromeda, which will probably burn the pixel owners, assuming those phones even last that long or it's just Moto Gooogle phone v2

Mi Mix EVO with Snapdragon 835 leaked on Geekbench

Looks like there is a higher-end variant of the Mi Mix in the horizon called the Mi Mix Evo. Leaked Geekbench screenshot shows Snapdragon 835 and 4GB of RAM.
I wonder whether it will have a better camera sensor.
I'm not worried about the Snapdragon 835. I knew there were many new devices from Samsung, LG and the like with better specs than the Mix, coming out soon.
I expected the Mix to be a "one of a kind" device for a while, like how the Xperia Z Ultra was, at one point of time.
If the rumors pan out to be true, the fact that it may change that, is a bit disappointing I guess.
Moreover, judging from Xiaomi's history with previous devices, it doesn't look like we may see a lot of development for the device. Add to the fact, a very small community of us here and an even smaller community of users at the MIUI forums.
Does anyone regret buying the Mix, considering the Mix Evo would be sold at a similar price?

No regrets
@vergilbt I agree..
Not at all.
Sent from my MIghty Mix.
This would be cool if it has something other than a ceramic or glass body.
It'd be refreshing to have a ruggedized shell/display,no need for a case.
Otherwise, I don't have regrets.
Worldwide 2G/3G/4G/LTE support would be the main spec to consider trading up.
An I-R Blaster & wireless charging would seal the deal.
There's a lot of nice phones hitting the market soon, most of us here will be experiencing some measure of buyers remorse, especially if you're strictly a one-phone-at-a-time user.
HTC's latest U Series devices look nice. The Ultra is tempting (for me),but, I'm passing.
Besides, they will likely introduce yet another flagship @ MWC.Ditto with Huawei (P10), Samsung & LG.
It's a vicious nonstop cycle that's a real Love/Hate experience for those of us who use little to no restraint in trying out virtually everything on the market. ?

I got a serious phone problem. I'm currently on the S7 which I have no complaints about but I always need something new. I always like MIUI though so hopefully I'll enjoy this phone and be content with it for a while.

Been chasing that same Android Unicorn for five or six years now, kinda made a New Years resolution to curb it a bit ,but,as you,not successful, two new phones this month alone, not counting the Mix..........
I rationalize my habit by telling myself "I could be doing worse things"............

Hey, since I have your ear what's your current setup for this phone? Did you root and install TWRP? What ROM are you running? Any Xposed?

My phone came with an unlocked bootloader.
As soon as I realized that, I installed TWRP,made a backup of whatever was on my phone & jumped to the EU ROM,switched seamlessly to GlobeROM (very similar).
I have most MIUI/Xiaomi apps disabled, using SD Maid Pro.
Using Nova Launcher Pro & MIUI Xposed,I believe there's a thread here somewhere with the links for the proper version of Xposed for MIUI 8.
If not, just ping me & I'll post/PM 'em to you.......
In photography we call that Gear Acquisition Syndrome (gas).
The way I fixed it is to use the older generation for a while. I had a pretty serious issue with phones before but was forced to use my original xperia z1 after g4 had bootloop issue.
Turns out the z1 is so lovable that I didn't even bother fixing the g4. I only got the mix since it's one of a kind phone.
The hardware upgrade is getting insignificant. Even with a 50% battery improvement on the mix, it wouldn't be that important since the original mix is already pretty damn good.

Got this device just a few weeks back. I knew there were next gen phones with next gen specs coming out around Feb- March, which didn't bother me much. I bought the Mix, knowing this is a unique device. If an upgraded version hits the market too soon,, it will significantly diminish the value of the Original Mix. Moreover, we may not see much in terms of development if the interest for this device goes down too soon. And considering Xiaomi isn't very good at releasing kernel sources, we may even be on Marshmallow for a long long time. And that kinda sucks, especially for people who don't switch phones too often!
Before people start getting too pissed off, bear in mind the sheer volume of fake rumours that surface in relation to Xiaomi handsets - probably more even than for Samsung or Apple.
There's already been the debunked news about the Mi Mix Nano, not to mention the rumoured SD821-toting Mi S that never materialised, the rumours about a Mi 5C that have so far come to naught and a lot of Mi Note 2 rumours that turned out to be incorrect.
For all we know, that's just a test unit for the SD835 Xiaomi are using that's been given some random name - or even a completely faked benchmark.

Good call all around. :good:
Most of the angst is tongue-in-cheek,most here know how the life cycle of the smartphone scene is in constant change.
Those truly upset would do better to find a hobby that's just as consuming, but, easier on the wallet,or,focus on finding the best in the low-to-midrange segment (Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro,OnePlus,etc.....)

Just hoping Xiaomi releases Kernel source for this device. As long as we see some real development for this device, I don't have any problems even if they bring one with Snapdragon 840.
The oneplus 3/3T has some really good ROMs, is based on the same chipset and if we have the source for the Mix, guess we can port a few ROMs. AOSP or CM anyone?

Nothing like forced perspective to appreciate the MIX:
1) Just finished setting up my Redmi Note3 Pro & while it's definitely a great device, arguably the best bang for the buck available,it can't hold a candle to the Mix.
2) Same with my Samsung Galaxy Note4,is still a great phone, but, even with its S-Pen/I-R Blaster/expandable storage & removable battery, I'd pick the MIX without any hesitation. The performance/display/battery life are outstanding, exceeding expectations big time.

Don't get me wrong, I completely get how frustrating it is to shell out for something and have it be superceded shortly after, even when you know it's likely to happen.
And should Xiaomi turn around and announce a superior Mi Mix a couple of months after I got mine, I'd be first in line to whine about it.
But having spent something like 10 months last year waiting for a phone I wanted to splash out on, I've come to realise just how low the wheat-to-chaff ratio is with Xiaomi rumours. So I'll hold off on complaining until I know for a fact what's happening

Each to their own, of course, but for me a huge part of the appeal of the Mi Mix is MIUI - any other ROM would feel like know was losing part of what makes the Mix so great.

Completely misleading Android one program / Feedback hub app

I'm beginning to feel completely misled about the Android 1 program. December and still no Oreo, I was thinking of a Pure Android with instant first in line updates to the latest software, similar to the Nexus and Pixel phones. My friend with an old One plus 3 received Oreo in Early November.
Also, this is not pure android. It's preloaded with Miu junkware.
Of particular interest is the feedback hub app. Is this a Google or Miu App? I thought the latter and there is no way to remove it from the phone.
I Bought this for the pure android experience and instant updates, but there are better tech/price handsets out there in this price range with decent battery and better screen/chips.
New buyers proceed with a little caution.
What other devices with Pure Android, instant first in line updates and better tech/price handsets at this price range with decent battery and better screen/chips are you reffering to?

1. Xiaomi promised Oreo by the end of the year. The beta has already rolled out. And will soon be released as promised. I don't see how that's a problem.
2. There's literally no junk in this phone I don't know what you're talking about.. miremote? How else you're gonna use that IR blaster. And micamera app because stock also camera doesn't support xiaomi's dual camera setup. And finally mi feedback.. you should be grateful that they are trying to listen to their customers..
3. OnePlus 3 is also double the price of mi A1. You can't expect flagship phone with on a potato price.
4. Kindly list those phones with better tech screen and 'chips' (lays?) Closest phone with similar spec is Moto g5s plus which costs ₹2000 more than A1. Others don't even have specs remotely close to this one and costs close to ₹20000.
I was was referring to phones that do not have pure Android.
Android One on the Mi A1 is not pure Android either.
My point is you may as well buy another phone because this is not a true pure Android experience. Don't be fooled.

You really expose yourself here as a deluded fanboy. My point is the one plus 3 does not have pure android but was updated months ago. Unremovable feedback app points to doctored software and therefore is not pure. THIS IS NOT A PURE ANDROID PHONE. FACT.
There are plenty of better spec Chinese built phones in this range. Do yourself a favour and have a quick browse on gearbest. I know you want to protect your investment by convincing yourself it's great but it really isn't. IR blaster is virtually useless in the modern world and is a cheap replacement for lack of NFC.
This IS pure Android. Having 1 or 2 pre-installed apps doesn't mean it's not pure Android. Name one phone with pure Android except nexus and pixel.
You mean I should rather buy a phone with half hd screen, an older SoC with a single camera which costs more than a1? Even if we consider for a second that it's not pure Android in A1 ( which it is).. its still a great phone and no other phone comes close to this phone in terms of price/spec ratio.

The camera is rubbish. There are much better single cameras out there. The 'optical zoom' is a joke.
Yes it is still a good phone but the chip is very old now and there are plenty of other options.

My argument still stands.. they promised Oreo BY THE END OF THE YEAR. Is it January yet? It's not like you got cheated or something.
The is just installed as system app it doesn't mean the OS itself is doctored.. please go and learn about Android before spreading your ignorance.
So you would rather buy a Chinese trash phone with cr*p mediatek processors with no guarantee on its quality than this phone which comes from a decent company.
Lastly NFC is just novelty in the region where A1 is supposed to be sold. Unlike IR blaster which many people make use of.

If it's installed on the system and you cannot remove it, then it is considered bloatware and the operating system has been doctored.
It is not a pure Android phone. I'm sure there is a thread already that exposes this project as a joint Xiaomi/Google project but run by Xiaomi. Your right about one thing...I should have done a little research into the so called Android One project.
Plenty of >Snapdragon chip phones out there in this price bracket I know it and so do you so stop pretending. And don't talk about power efficiency, that's why you pack a 4000+ battery!

You obviously aren't satisfied with the choice you made, so..sell the phone, buy "better phone in this price range", be happy. It's really as simple as that.
If you really believe that you have been lied to by Xiaomi, there are legal options which you can take. Search Google for legal services in your area, they'll be happy to discuss this point with you.

Yes, it's really bad. The front facing camera is terrible and the pixelation on the rear is really bad. Forget about night time. And I was coming from a Nexus 5.

Another bitter poster who is protecting his investment furiously rather than admitting it's shortcomings.
I did not say I had been lied to and I am fully aware of how to use Google search. But if you really think this matter requires me to seek legal assistance you really are a bit special.
What I am freely admitting is that I should have done more research on the Android One project as it is not what I thought it was. My bad and I learn from my mistakes.
Use a nexus device & u can instantly understand the difference.. Android one programs supposed to have faster updates & be more stable.. A1 is just a half hearted effort from Mi.. Bugs, bugs and more bugs.. Awesome hardware, but crap software.. And android one program is supposed to have os updates pushed by Google..
If u have used a nexus phone, u 'll know how soon they address bugs.. I used Nexus 5 & the first version of kitkat had a vdo recording problem.. It was addressed in just a matter of days.. The contact linking issue has not been addressed even after four or five updates..
That being said if it was just marketed as a Mi phone with Stock os it wud have been alright.. Its value for money.. But it doesnt do justice to the android one tag..

I was mistaken and should haved looked a little deeper into it. As you said before, this is not even close to a Nexus/stock android experience.

I came from Nexus 5X and yes, I feel the difference. I have snappier phone which keeps more apps in memory without closing them immediately during multitasking, I'm not experiencing unfinished HDR photos now, etc... I still receive monthly security updates and actually am happy that my device is not the very first one receiving major OS upgrade, as it often breaks many things (TWRP, root, not updated apps). So I'll rather wait couple of weeks or months until all developers catch up and I can continue using my device without hiccups.
I bought phones which I wasn't happy with in the past and guess what, I sold them and purchased something else. But if you feel that posting on forums that you made a mistake is the right way how to solve your problem..well.. be my guest, though not sure how is it supposed to help others.

The camera on my Nexus 5 was better than the Mi A1 producing far superior images. I'm not looking to solve my problem I'm just happy to make others aware this is not a stock android experience. What I'm posting is valuable feedback for those thinking about buying one of these devices.
The bottom line is everything has to run through Beijing first before being released rather than coming straight from San Francisco.
I am happy with the phone and VFM (but it's no Nexus)
I am not happy with the way Xiaomi is executing Android One.

The "very old" chip is based on 14 nm technology, how are you calling it old? Sure, its not the most cutting edge, but it fares well when it comes to daily usage.
And yeah, having other camera apps surely would help. I think Mi camera app sharpens up the image a bit more.

You are right. I tried using Google Live Wallpaper on my A1, and it made the whole phone slow! Opening app drawer/jumping to home page, etc felt slower and laggy.
Funny thing is, I was using the same wallpaper on my Redmi 2s. It ran on that phone PERFECTLY FINE!!! No lags, no stutters, and no loss in battery life!! Sure, Redmi 2s has a 720p screen, and I could tell that the animations set to a lower resolution, but I'm disappointed that Mi A1 stutters with such beautiful wallpapers.
Get yo **** together, Xiaomi. Give Mi A1 the Android it deserves.
And to people who are *****ing that it isn't the stockest stockesty android, calm yo tits. It comes very close to Nexus levels stock, save a few apps. But still wish they had included Night Light tho.
Ah, now I see. This explains pretty much everything: "I'm not looking to solve my problem"
"this is not a stock android experience", which is only your opinion. As far I see this is stock android with very similar experience to Nexus devices with the same or better user experience. Obviously we don't have to agree with each other, but as you certainly won't accept another opinion than yours and are not able to discuss politely..so.. Have fun bashing Xiaomi and Google with your utterly useful posts (oh sorry, "valuable feedback" as you call it ).
