seeking recommendation to be installed into RSX
I'm looking to have run this app pretty much on default
Hands on with AutoMate Beta ? Android Auto for your phone | Android Central
back in January I looked into Android Auto/CarPlay from the brand names but they require USB connection to phone = dealbreaker
not looking to DIY a tablet into the dash
will be installing myself
convenience is key. I just want to enter the car and have BT auto connected to the phone and ready to stream music without having to pull out my phone.
voice-enabled messaging, google apps, backup cam, responsive touch screen, 2gb ram, quad-core processor and large community dev support. I didn't look at Hufei and AN-21 because their specs are dated as they've been around for a while now. I've been waiting for android 5.0 head units to hit the market but it's taking forever.
i'm not an audiophile so as long as the sound quality isn't worse than stock radio I'm good which is only mediocre at best. Not looking at mid to high end solutions that may attract thieves.
so no one's bought a ebay head unit and tried loading up auto mate?
Which ebay head unit has the full google play store and does it typically have issues with apps designed for phone/tablet?
Hi, I've had a Joying HU with Intel Sofia CPU for a few months .
Now looking at their site, they say that their new Octa Core systems are "Z-Link" compatible. Apparently something to do with iPhone voice commands etc.
They also sell a USB dongle for Z-Link on their site at joyingauto.com
Anyone tried this or have an idea what this Z-Link actually is good for?
Cheers, Harri
Z-Link enables two options: Android Auto *and* Apple Car Play. For Intel units it needs a hardware adapter to work.

I looked a lot to see if it's really compatible with Android Auto and I could not find anything.... lots of videos on Youtube presenting ONLY the CarPlay functionality so I guess it's only for CarPlay ?

You are right: now only Iphone is mentioned on their Z-Link accessories page. On a video I've seen last month they also mentioned Android Auto and tried to connect some Samsung phone for it but failed.
@CadillacMike posted a video:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75745846&postcount=117
Yeah, I posted a video where I tried both Android Auto and CarPlay on a Seicane S18JP25, which is a MTCD PX3 with Android 7.1.2
Android Auto did not work very well, but CarPlay seemed great
The ZLink adapter when used for Android Auto automates the steps when you connect your phone to the car radio to get Android Auto running. It will automatically launch Android Auto on your phone when you plug it into the head unit via USB, turn the brightness to on your phone to minimum, and mirror your phone screen (running Android Auto) on the head unit screen.
I was successful at getting the ZLink adapter to work fairly well. But considering that EasyConnect is free and essentially provides the same functionality for Android phones with the Joying head unit it isn't really worth the extra cost for the adapter. Apparently the newer octacore Joying units come with the capability of the ZLink adapter built in already.
You can also use Headunit reloaded if youre running an android phone. You will get Android auto without using the Zbox.

I am using the white dongle by Joying with zBox 4.1.1. The app connects to the dongle, but then sits on "Phone Not Found"
I have tried using a power USB hub.
Any ideas?

FYI, I have their latest HU after upgrading from an older Joying unit. The Z-Link built in now with the latest firmware they just released this week works quite well. Apple Carplay works, and is actually impressive considering you don't need the USB dongle.
Sorry to reopen this thread, but I'm having some issues with my joying head unit and Android auto. When I connect my phone, it automatically opens the Android auto app on my phone, but then the zlink app says that "androidauto is closed". Any ideas?
Hi my friend, i found a joying multimedia unit from my friend and for z-link it requires activation code so but i couldnt get the code from joying because i dont have a order number. so how can you help me? can you give me your order number to get activation code

I guess you may use android 8.0 version mobile phone, the android auto function on Joying head unit can't support android 8.0 phone
Why was this never disclosed before? I wouldn't have bought the head unit if I knew that. Especially how almost every Android phone to be purchased today comes with Oreo preinstalled.

Alex, unfortunately Joying (Summer above) has a habit of telling you what doesn't work AFTER you've purchased. It's pretty crappy. Unfortunately, there isn't a Joying forum anymore that also does the proper vetting and issues lists.

It is in the top of every webpage of every 8.0 model that android auto only works on android phones up to version 7.0. I do not know if it was there from the start, but it is at least on each page for more than a month.
Note:The android auto function only tested on iOS11.3 and android 7.0 mobile phone, can not support android 8.0 mobile phone.
Did you buy it more than a month ago?

I did purchase it over a month ago. I've been looking at joying units for years now, and just decided to take the plunge. It was probably my continuous emails to them essentially saying "NOTE THIS ON YOUR LISTINGS" that got them to update the pages....

My comment was in general.
For instance, Joying hasn't disclosed that the amp cont cable doesn't supply power on the *PX5 units despite myself and others having to prove it. They also don't disclose little things like not being able to change the radio station labels, no fast boot, etc.
I'm not saying they have to disclose every little nuance, but it gets confusing trying to find the right HU with the features you want. Most consumers are more accustomed to Iphone/Android standards where you know what you are getting regardless of phone manufacturer. With Joying and Android HU's in general you have to really dig into the details to know which units support which features, etc.
Again, that's why I say always buy from Amazon so that you can get the unit in, immediately install and test all features you were hoping for, and if required return it within 30 days. Joying's return policy direct from their site is horrible.
A lot of new head units I've seen are coming out with wireless carplay. I currently have a Phoenix android 9 inch head unit and was wondering if there was a way to install apk so that I could have Carplay on my headunit without having to buy a dongle or use a wired connection. Thanks for any help in advance.
I'm pretty sure you can not. Wired Car-play up until recently has needed a dongle to connect to iOS and it's only now that some Android headhunts have been having it built in, but even then it's not exactly openly available to re-create (at least I think). Wireless Carplay is REALLY recent and may take awhile before it gets cracked to run on android (if it ever will).
Been out of the car audio game for a while, but looking for something new for my 2012 Nissan Frontier. I'm currently looking at the XTRONS 10.1 units.
I like that the older version with Android 7 has the rotatable face (side to side), but wondering if that's really necessary. I like the look of the newer android 8 version better.
These are the two I'm considering.

Does anyone have any input on which would be better (or should I be looking at Joying or another brand instead)? Is the price worth it for the extra RAM? The videos I saw of the android 7 unit didn't seem to be laggy or slow at all. Would primarily use FM Radio, Android Auto, and GPS, but I do like to tinker so who knows what else i'd get into. Ability to somewhat easily update it would be nice
How about the ability to rotate the screen left to right? Would it be of any real benefit?
What is everyone doing for internet connection? Can I just run off my phone's hot spot? If so, do I need to connect every time or will it auto-reconnect.
Thanks
Based on the research that I have done, XTrons has some of the best services, including the head unit, customer service, prices and overall efficiency, so you're on track as far as the branding goes. :good:
I would definitely recommend going with the newer Android Oreo (8.0) unit because, while you can receive updates and most likely will, you will want the most up to date software for the longest amount of time to support all of the applications that you will be installing onto your unit.
No questions asked the more ram the better. More ram gives your Android unit more "head room" to think things through and have more applications without increasing the lag by much. If you can afford the extra $40 for the additional ram you may as well do it.
I too like the whole rotating screen idea but, I'm not sure that it is very useful. I think you may use it every once in a while for specific applications but, other than that it probably won't be that useful.
As far it goes for your wireless connection I recommend using your home Wi-Fi when you are at home doing updates and things alike. While you are away from home and need a wireless connection on the go I recommend either using your phones hot spot or a 4G dongle (requires additional purchase and a separate data plan from your carrier). Unfortunately, you are required to turn your hotspot on every time you step into your vehicle, because most phones will automatically disconnect and turn of the hotspot. There are some ways to get around this problem, applications like "Tasker" and "IFTTT" can detect when you leave your home and then turn on the hotspot. You also asked about if you had to login in each time, nope, each time the unit turns on it will look for previously connected internet connections and new internet connections.
Hope this helped! :good:

Great info. Thanks!
Hey everyone, I'm having troubles getting android auto to work at all on my new s10+. All my previous android phones worked flawlessly. I have been trying all sorts of debug methods in order to get my car to launch AA somehow but to no avail. I would really appreciate anyones input on this.

Same here. And the 1% of the time it does launch all the setting are going and have to go through the initial setup. So annoying. Have a '16 Escalade.
I have no issues on Ford Sync 3, even is better than before with P20 Pro where it was not loaded usually on first time. Maybe try different cable?
On your display scroll over to your mercedes connect and choose it. You should see boxes to check for android auto and apple carplay
Had the same today with my new car and S10+
Resolved it by installing APK for Android Auto from APK mirror.
I chose "armeabi-v7a" variant from https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/android-auto/android-auto-5-4-5022-release/
Hi, what version you've used? I have tried 5.4.50and it doesn't work. I mean the app works, but it wont connect to my car.
