Hey Ive recently received the lollipop upgrade on my gs5 and just found the mirrorlink setting Which got me excited to try it with my new honda civics display audio head unit. I let my phone connect to the HU with Bluetooth then I plug the samsung usb3 cable into my phone and it starts connecting to mirrorlink on its own. This worked about 3 times in the hour I spent trying it this morning with sygic car nav and miroamer. I just can't figure out how it works sometimes and won't connect others even from the mirrorlink settings turning on and off. Anyone else get this working??
Update: it worked again today just buy plugging it into the car's usb port while the phone is unlocke andd the screen goes black and says connecting. Then these right arrows show up on the head unit I click them and I can access my mirrorcast certifield apps.
Nine out of ten times though I plug the phone in to the car and nothing happens except the mirror cast settings say that mirror cast is active although the screen doesn't go black and doesn't connect.
Im just trying to figure out if the problem lies honda or samsung. Can anyone confirm this is working for then?
There are a couple threads over in the fitfreak forums about this same issue as well (2015 Fit and Civic have the same head unit). Mirrorlink is hit or miss and it seems there is no real way to have it initiate 100% of the time. Most people find success by having the phone unlocked and being in the mirrorlink settings menu when plugging in the usb cable. If that doesn't work, try unplugging and plugging in the usb cable a few times in rapid succession. It seems to kind of "trick" the system to recognize it. I also found better success with the usb port on the dash instead of the one in the center console (not sure if the civic has one in the center console).
I have both a 2015 Fit and a S5 and have yet to find a real use for mirrolink. I have one weather app that has mirrorlink support, but the screen goes black once you go into drive. I have yet to find a worthwhile app that supports mirrorlink.
If you happen to come across an app that is interesting let me know!
Hey Thanks for the reply.
I'll try rapidly connecting and disconnecting it. It seems to work about 1 in 15 times. The main app I would use it for is sygic car navigation it is designed for mirrorlink however it's like $40 after the trial. Also miroamer is a Internet radio app that works with mirrorlink those two are all that I know of.
same in honda City 2016
Just to let you know I'm facing exactly the same behavior with my S5 lollipop 5.0 and my Honda city 2016 head unit.
Sometimes it work, sometimes not. I also tried with lollipop 5.0.1 and get the same.
Now I'm back in lollipop 5.0 rooted, I'm trying to install drivelink to see if this could work, I will let you know any news
At this moment I only get working miroamer and sygic
update:
I upgraded to a galaxy note 4 and now mirror cast activates every time on the same 5.0.1 lollipop firmware. I've found a few more apps to try as well
-Glympse : see where your friends are on a GPS map
-parkopedia : find paid parking or free spots
-bringgo : GPS app not as nice as sygic
-audioteka : expensive audio books
And then miroamer Internet radio and the best one sygic car navigation which I just installed on the note 4 and will try out tomorrow omw to work.
Maybe the s5 will get a small update and fix the issues however my girlfriends s6 would connect then say incompatible phone on the Honda dash so not sure why that is.
Mirrorlink + Your OEM + Desired App, What to Expect
My wife just got a 2016 Honda-HRV and we've come across a lot of the same experience as others. I've done a little research and I just thought I'd share what I've come across here. Sorry for the obfuscated links, first time poster I'm not allowed to put external links in
After finding that Sygic works with mirrorlink while in Drive mode, I started researching Mirrorlink and looking for an SDK to see if I could create a basic app that could do the same (even if it's just hello world in drive mode).
I came across this Mirrorlink presentation by Ed Pichon - www slideshare net /bemyapp/mirrorlink-hackathon-workshop-presentation-by-ed-pichon
This is my best shot at interpreting this. If anyone is more familiar with the process, please feel free to chime in.
In summary (Slide 24 gives a good conceptual)-
- You have to design your app to CCC guidelines
- There's at least a "Base" requirements and a "Drive" requirements
- If you want your app to function in Drive mode, you have to comply to both sets.
- You Submit your app for certification and it's reviewed and lab tested.
- If certified, your application is signed with a private certificate held by the CCC/ Certification Body
- That signature contains a representation of scope that the app is approved for in the various regions (US, Basic - EU, Drive, etc)
- Your OEM Head Unit has a public CA (Certificate Authority) certificate that can verify the signature on the compatible mirrorlink app and grants the various scopes.
So from what I can tell based off the above presentation as well as the below link, Sygic has gone through this certification process and proven that it's car navigation app complies with the CCC drive standards (at least in the US, I haven't tested elsewhere). - www mirrorlink com /apps/Sygic
So what you need to look for to tell if you're going to have decent support is -
1. - An OEM that supports MirrorLink (Best to contact your OEM or read OEM documentation, not the dealer, for credible specifics) - mirrorlink com /cars
2. - A Phone that supports the correct level of MirrorLink for your OEM - mirrorlink com /phones
3. - A certified application for your mode and region (eg, Drive and US vs Park and EU). So far the following site only has what I assume to be a very incomplete list? - www mirrorlink com /apps
If you don't have AT LEAST those three things, I wouldn't expect much. I'm sure there's always going to be ways that people get around controls and I'm not interested in that, I just wanted to share what I came across to set expectations for people who are looking for things that Just Work. Hopefully Google and other larger app devs are going through this process to make their apps infotainment compatible though I'm not sure how big of a barrier the process is. I plan to join and try and create an app and get it certified and document the process.
Hi,
I've tried connecting my Samsung s6 edge to honda city 2016. After some time, it shows that "smartphone is not compatible".
Can to pls detail the steps you are doing to connect it to Honda city car and your car's Firmware version.
Thanks
I have the same problem as above only with Samsung galaxy s7 edge and Honda Civic 2016! Please help! Everything is switched on, certified and it should work. Except it doesn't...
Doesn't work with Samsung Galaxy S5 & Honda CR-V 2015. Same issue - "Smartphone is not compatible".
Le Pro 3 is having compatibility issues when connected to Honda Accord 2016 car system - Android Auto system.

Does any know, workaround to resolve compatibility issues with Android Auto for Le Pro 3.
Thanks in advance.

We're you able to get it working with the Accord? I'm thinking of getting this phone, but I need it to work with my Civic.
Also won't work with Chevy Mylink system. Huawei Mate 8 and Nexus 6P work fine, Pro3 does not. After connecting the phone, the car detects it and asks to connect, and when selecting yes, it return the car infotainment to what it was on (radio), and not the android auto screen. On the the phone there is an Android Auto notification, which cannot be clicked. The phone switches to a USB screen stating that it is in charge only mode.
Anyone have any steps to get around this.

Can you clarify the port change you made. Both my car and phone only have one port, so I am not sure what you mean by switching ports. Thanks.

VW has confirmed that my USB port is faulty and ordered a replacement. I have two USB ports in my car, the front one does not work properly, where as the rear one works just fine.
If your car recognizes your phone, your phone is charging, but not connecting, then, most likely, one of the pins of the USB port might be loose. Have your dealership check it.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the clarification, i understand, you are physically changing a port! I doubt this is the issue in my car, as the car is in regular use by many drivers. 3 other phones work. A nexus 5, a nexus 5x and a Nexus 6P. You can see apettern there on what phones we prefer! I am also currently trying the Huawei Mate 8 which also works. But the Le Pro3 (x727) fails every time. A bad port would likely not work or be intermittant on at least some of the other phones.
I did try other cables, including the one that came with the phone, no difference. Did your dealer let you plug into a car on the lot, to verify the phone will work?

No, I just started the issue and they were able to test for it.
Have you enabled USB debugging in dev options? Try disabling it, try MTP/PTP options while connecting. Also, try clearing data or reinstalling Android Auto or verify the app permissions.

@Karthi14 I work for American Honda (HQ) and I can check regarding the 2016 Accord for you. What trim level do you have? I'll check on several trim levels with the DA audio to be sure.

Yeah, I think I have tried everything, which is why I decided to come over here to the smart folks for help. I enabled USB debugging, turned off battery optimization, checked all permissions. It is interesting that when it connects to the car USB port, the USB computer connection screen pops up, which is where you set MTP/PTP/Charge only, and it is set to charge only, and the options are grayed out, so I can't change them. With USB debugging enabled, it allows those to change, but it still makes no difference. It may be the combination of the Chevy AA implementation and the X727 ROM. It seems other users here are getting connected, so change the car it works. On my end, change the phone and it also works. Bummer. Will have to sell the Chevy or the phone. !!

I tried my phone on a 2016 Accord Touring: Android Auto worked fine.
Tried on 2016 Accord EX-L: Did not work. I tried all options on my phone; MTP, PTP, Charging, USB Debugging On/Off...No bueno. I'll look into any possible software updates for the audio unit and report back.
Tried on 2016 Civic EX-L: Android Auto works fine.
Looking into the Accord situation, I don't see any software updates for 2016 Accord. There are two different audio head unit part numbers used for 2016 Accord, both made by Clarion. The Touring, EX-L Navi & EX-L Navi V6 all use the same head unit. EX-L & EX-L V6 use a different head unit than the others. That may be the issue, but I don't know the root cause of the difference. Still looking into things.
Waiting for feedback from Clarion tech line rep at our offices in Ohio. I sent software version info for both units to him, so I'm waiting to see what he says.

There is a software update available for the audio head unit in your accord. I got the update file from our product development group here and I wish I could send it to you, but it's 19gb. Probably the best thing to do is go to your local honda dealer and have them update it for you. I imagine they would charge you for that, but I don't know for sure, and I don't know how much.
The update took about 30 minutes or so, and I can confirm my phone now works on it.
To summarize, my phone worked on our 16 Accord Touring and now the 16 EX-L after the update.
Hi Honda John,
I took my Honda 2016 Accord to the dealership, they said that they couldn't find any software update for the audio head unit in their system, could you please guide me towards my next steps?
thanks!
Ashmit
I factory reset my Honda Civics Bluetooth system and I can add my LEX727 to Android Auto now. It may also be because I'm on TARS ROM, but I never got that far before until I did the factory reset.

Which Honda dealer is it? I'll contact our Honda DPSM for your district and have them work with the dealer. According to our Product Development group, the update files are available on the server, but at this point an official Service Bulletin hasn't been published directing the dealer to look for the update. it's supposed to be coming out soon, but no specific date.

Hi John,
Thank you for getting back at me. My dealership is Valley Honda in Naperville, IL. They said that they weren't able to find any softwares in the bulletin, and my Car's software said that it was most updated one. I would appreciate if you could contact the DPSM and share with him about the issue.
I am still under 15 days of purchasing this phone, so I have the opportunity to return the device, if this does not get figured out. I need android auto for navigation as I am seriously direction impaired
I really appreciate your help!
Thanks,

Hi Ashmit, the Clarion engineer told me the update will probably be released by the end of this year, or early next year. Evidently, Honda will send each dealer two thumb drives when the service bulletins (one for Pilot, one for Accord) are published.
Unfortunately I think that's outside of your phone return window. If you'd still like to PM the name & number of the person you've been talking to, I'll give them a call & explain the situation.
I'm sorry it's not better news.
Hi, I've had a Joying HU with Intel Sofia CPU for a few months .
Now looking at their site, they say that their new Octa Core systems are "Z-Link" compatible. Apparently something to do with iPhone voice commands etc.
They also sell a USB dongle for Z-Link on their site at joyingauto.com
Anyone tried this or have an idea what this Z-Link actually is good for?
Cheers, Harri
Z-Link enables two options: Android Auto *and* Apple Car Play. For Intel units it needs a hardware adapter to work.

You are right: now only Iphone is mentioned on their Z-Link accessories page. On a video I've seen last month they also mentioned Android Auto and tried to connect some Samsung phone for it but failed.
@CadillacMike posted a video:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75745846&postcount=117
Yeah, I posted a video where I tried both Android Auto and CarPlay on a Seicane S18JP25, which is a MTCD PX3 with Android 7.1.2
Android Auto did not work very well, but CarPlay seemed great
The ZLink adapter when used for Android Auto automates the steps when you connect your phone to the car radio to get Android Auto running. It will automatically launch Android Auto on your phone when you plug it into the head unit via USB, turn the brightness to on your phone to minimum, and mirror your phone screen (running Android Auto) on the head unit screen.
I was successful at getting the ZLink adapter to work fairly well. But considering that EasyConnect is free and essentially provides the same functionality for Android phones with the Joying head unit it isn't really worth the extra cost for the adapter. Apparently the newer octacore Joying units come with the capability of the ZLink adapter built in already.
You can also use Headunit reloaded if youre running an android phone. You will get Android auto without using the Zbox.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ndroid-4-1-headunit-reloaded-android-t3432348
I am using the white dongle by Joying with zBox 4.1.1. The app connects to the dongle, but then sits on "Phone Not Found"
I have tried using a power USB hub.
Any ideas?

FYI, I have their latest HU after upgrading from an older Joying unit. The Z-Link built in now with the latest firmware they just released this week works quite well. Apple Carplay works, and is actually impressive considering you don't need the USB dongle.

I guess you may use android 8.0 version mobile phone, the android auto function on Joying head unit can't support android 8.0 phone
Why was this never disclosed before? I wouldn't have bought the head unit if I knew that. Especially how almost every Android phone to be purchased today comes with Oreo preinstalled.

Alex, unfortunately Joying (Summer above) has a habit of telling you what doesn't work AFTER you've purchased. It's pretty crappy. Unfortunately, there isn't a Joying forum anymore that also does the proper vetting and issues lists.

It is in the top of every webpage of every 8.0 model that android auto only works on android phones up to version 7.0. I do not know if it was there from the start, but it is at least on each page for more than a month.

My comment was in general.
For instance, Joying hasn't disclosed that the amp cont cable doesn't supply power on the *PX5 units despite myself and others having to prove it. They also don't disclose little things like not being able to change the radio station labels, no fast boot, etc.
I'm not saying they have to disclose every little nuance, but it gets confusing trying to find the right HU with the features you want. Most consumers are more accustomed to Iphone/Android standards where you know what you are getting regardless of phone manufacturer. With Joying and Android HU's in general you have to really dig into the details to know which units support which features, etc.
Again, that's why I say always buy from Amazon so that you can get the unit in, immediately install and test all features you were hoping for, and if required return it within 30 days. Joying's return policy direct from their site is horrible.
Hi.
Just got a 2020 Subaru Outback. When I connect my Essential with USB cable, nothing happens (other than charging). Works fine on my wife's '19 Nissan Rogue.
Also connected my wife's Samsung Galaxy S8 to Subaru, no problems - Android Auto popped up right-a-way.
Any '20 Subaru Outback, Legacy owners here?
Thanks
This should probably be under Question Answers.
>Nothing happens other than charging
Have you looked under your notifications to see if the USB options are set to charging only? I've never used Android Auto but I know I have to set it to File Transfer every time I plug my phones into my computer, otherwise it only charges.
I had the same issue, but by connecting a unpowered USB hub it should work. I know it sounds stupid, but give it a try.
@levpri I've got a Crosstrek and I was having similar issues. When I got the car I'd found a thread that mentioned a bunch of working and not working USB A to C cables. I ended up getting a couple of these cables and I've not had a problem since.
Amazon Anker Cable
Anker cable. Plug into car first, then phone.
Did you get it going?
I use AA on my outback /18 without issues got a new phone that was on android 10 now my AA not longer works, it connects I get my maps but it won't take any voice commands from the steering wheel.
not sure if it's my LG phone or that it's because it's on Android 10 I may try my old samsung phone set it back up tomorrow just to test.

Also connected my wife's Samsung Galaxy S8 to Subaru, no problems - Android Auto popped up right-a-way.
Any '20 Subaru Outback, Legacy owners here?
Thanks

I'm having the same issue. I have a new Subaru Outback 2020. My Samsung S8 connected with AA with no problems. I just got a new Samsung Note 20 5G, running Android 10. Now Android Auto is not launching the map. I get voice driving instructions but no map. I see on my phone, a notification saying the phone is connecting to AA, but it eventually goes away and still no map showing on the head unit. I've tried several different USB-C to USB-A cables and none of them help with this issue. Google markets they've improved AA access by combining it with the Android operating system. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have done sufficient testing with this change. Typical of software giants sending out updates without full testing and ensuring it's functional.
GOOGLE: Get your act together! This is a serious issue. AA is supposed to aid drivers and the map on the head unit stops individuals looking at their phone. Well, you've just increased the chance of a crash now. It won't surprise me if GOOGLE gets sued for someone's death.
If anyone finds an update or resolution to this problem, PLEASE post the fix!!!
PS: We should not have to go through this ridiculous back and forth just to link Android Auto from our phone to our car. This is the 21st century, is it not? We send people to the moon, have smart(?) applicances, and even self-driving cars. Surely, we should be able to get a simple mapping system to show up on a car head unit!
Have you gone into your Android auto settings by any chance? It's an integrated app now so there's no icon for it in Android 10 (depending on phone).
You should be able to easily find it by using the search bar in the app drawer on a Samsung and it will find it in settings. Search key words "Android Auto".
I have both an Essential and Samsung Note9. My Essential phone still has the actual app on stock. I have had more trouble with Essential connecting to AA.
If you haven't tried anything in settings, you could look there and forget all cars to clean it up and start fresh. You could enable developer settings similar to actual Android and try things in those settings. You'll be able to change/set:
> Application Mode (Developer gives AA Server)
>Add wireless projection to settings
>Clear all data
>Unknown Sources
>Debug options
>Video Resolution
>And more...
Might have to experiment. Good luck!

I started receiving the same "Launching error.. check clock or upgrade google play services" error all of a sudden while I was on a road trip on 2020 subaru outback.
I noticed the time in the display console was off by 1hr so it was definitely some clock issue so I manually tried to set it but still the android auto won't connect. I figured there was some Subaru software issue because when setting the daylight saving to AUTO it was not sowing the correct info, while previously there was no issue with AUTO settings.
Then I tried my wife's phone and same issue.
I tried different cables and same issue.
I tried factory reset of subaru console from settings but still the same issue.
Then I came across some other post and tried the android auto phone app downgrade approach but it didn't work either. With lower phone app version it was not supported to connect to the subaru outback so the phone app forced me to download and install updates again. And then the same issue.
Finally, I went to the service center and asked them to look into this. They checked and fixed the issue in 3-4 hrs. They verbally told me that they updated the head unit and that fixed the issue. And then in the inspection report they had exactly mentioned as below:
"Performed inspection of vehicle and was able to verify customer concern of vehicle not being able to access android auto or apple car play, found TSB 15-261-20R which has an available update for the stereo head unit. Will perform update to make sure latest software is installed. Apple car play is now working. Old software version was F11GHM042-380 new software version is F11GHM072-582"
This is as of 17th Dec 2021. Since then the android auto is working fine.
I am sharing this post so that in case nothing works for you, try showing this message to subaru service center guys to help you fix the issue.
Hope this helps!
I'm currently looking to purchase a Seicane headunit for my 2008 Accord, but really just want to connect my phone via USB to use Android Auto on it. I've read up on the Autokit app, I'm guessing I need the Carplay/Android Auto USB Dongle as well.
https://www.seicane.com/2008-2013-h...lay-swc-wifi-music-support-dvr-tpms-obd2-h281
I apologize if this isn't the right place for this question, but in order to use the latest Android Auto Interface (that came out in 2019), does it matter which version of Android the headunit has on it, or does it only depend on my phone? I currently have the Pixel 2XL and will actually be upgrading the Galaxy S20+ once it's released. Before placing the order with Seicane, I just wanted to check to see if that mattered. The headunit I'm looking at would be Android 8.0 whie my phone would be Android 10. I've read a lot of mixed things on Seicane, however they are the only unit that I could have a 10.1 inch screen above the dash instead of a regular unit below.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

These Seicane units and others are not Android Auto, they are a hacked android OS. Are you wanting Android Auto or Android.

I have the below the dash Dasaita 10.2inch PX6 9.0 with the Carlinkit USB dongle and it works really well with the latest iPhone 11 and the Samsung S9+.

So regular Android Auto is ideally what I'm looking for. However I've looked at most of the normal aftermarket setups with the dash kit for my 2008 Accord, but don't like the standard spot for it in my car since it is too low like the attached pic (1 - LowDashLocation.jpg), especially when using it for navigation. I'd like to have a unit where it's higher up (like the other attached pic, 2 - SeicaneAccord). I also like the larger 10.1 Screen. I like how the stock screen is moved below.
The Seicane really seems like the only option for this, but I'm planning on trying to use that Carplay/Android Auto USB Dongle with AutoLink to use it with Android Auto. I'm not sure how well it would work though in this case. If anyone has any other solutions that might work better for Android Auto I'd definitely appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks!

Thanks for this info. Dasaita would be similar to the Seicane I was looking at. So does Android Auto specifically work well on it, and do you have the newer Android Auto 2019 interface (which is much better) that comes up? Is it pretty quick to come up and any lag? Do you use Google Maps from your phone?

Android Auto /Apple Car play works really well, I haven't had any problems what's so ever and yes it's the Android Auto 2019 interface.
Less than 10 secs and it's connected and as soon as it's connected it loads up Google maps on my Android head unit, I use the head unit and put the phone in my centre console and have no need to touch it.

That's great to hear! If you don't mind I have a few questions! Lol
I'm curious, on your Android head unit what version of Android do you have on it and what did you have to do in order to get the 2019 Android Auto installed? Once it synced with your phone was it something on the phone side? If you didn't have the adapter and just plugged the phone in with USB even with Autolink I'm guessing it wouldn't work?
Also, do all the functions of Android auto including the phone function work well without lag and connects fine with Bluetooth? I read some people had issues with phone not working through it and having to use the dialer that came with the unit. Is the microphone used during calling the one from the headunit or on the actual USB dongle?
Assuming you don't have any issues with lag, how much RAM do you have on your unit?
Thanks a ton for your help! I apologize for all the questions.

I have the Dasaita 10.2 inch Android 9 Pie
CPU : RK3399 , Dual Cortex-A72 + Quad Cortex-A53, 64-bit
RAM : 4 GB
ROM : 64 GB
Telephone functions works well, no drop outs or lag.
Either use the microphone from the head unit but I have installed an external microphone in the original location of the cars microphone position. I use the external microphone jack from the back of the Head unit.

Thanks, appreciate the pics too! Did you have to do anything special to get the 2019 interface for Android Auto on the unit after installing the Autolink apk? And every time you get into the car you just open the Autolink app and connect the phone I'm assuming, does it take awhile to connect? Did you install a particular launcher that you liked?
Having a USB-C phone I'm guessing I'll just need to use a USB-A to USB-C adapter so I won't get fast charging, but still would probably be worth it to modernize my car a bit.

Hi,There is nothing that I have to do other than plug my phone into the usb socket and approx 10 seconds later Android auto/Apple Carplay is up and running.
You can install what ever launcher you like that suits you, I'm using Car Launcher Pro.

Hello everyone. I received an updated Firmware directly from seicane for their head unit. This is Android 10 update for the 2/32 GB unit. Everything seems to be working great so far on unit. If you would like to try it for yourself please feel free to download and install. I'm not too tech savvy so if you have any questions I'll answer them the best I can. Thought I would share for anyone to update their own unit if possible
PLEASE BE ADVISED YOU USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
I will not be held responsible for any damages done to your own unit.
Thank you!
