Is it possible that htc is so advanced that they made wildfire with new hboot impossible to be OWN3D by UNREVOKED ?
Will it be ever possible ?
Just curious.
Theyre working on it atm
sure they are... last post they did that they are working on it was 10-th january or earlyer

Sorry but i was not asking about "how long do we have to wait...."
I know that they are people like us and they have other stuff to do and they do it free....
I was only asking if this is possible that it now or someday will be too hard...
In the current state of things, I think that it was, it is and it probably always will be a cat-and-mouse game. Remember the TIFF exploit on the PSP. Who would have thought about it? Hacking a console with picture? Seriously.
Despite best practice, there will always be some shortcuts taken and slack programming. Or the plainly unexpectable; rooting through a malformed wifi packet maybe?
The problem we face nowadays is that we have many hungry cats that get impatient for their food.
Having read about the Alpharev and unrevoked, it does look that this is just a question of time.
I think personally (probably because I know nothing on the subject) that making/getting the tools to sign any HBOOT (PS3 style) is the way to go.
I too have a 2.2.1 phone which I bought like this on eBay, and the wait is frustrating to say the least, but I would rather wait a bit more than stare at a brick.
I too have a 2.2.1 wildfire, I was unwittingly duped into thinking updating would make my phone better. < how wrong was I.
Looking at the positive side at least I can research and learn about Android/rooting/custom ROMs before I dive in and perform them. So hopefully no problems when I eventually do manage to root it
The unrevoked team said on the10th that they are working on it. Today we have the 30th and yet still no updates from them. The new security system is probably too good for them and maybe they will not be able to root it....
Look every system can be exploited, Some are easy and some are hard, just give them time. I have 2.2.1 firmware as i got the phone new just over a week ago. I have tried to root it myself and failed (Linux geek maybe) but andriod is new to me so now i am going to wait.
So wait and research on how to use custom roms i am its fun and give the people making the exploits time, they are doing it for free and have normal lifes like the rest of us.
Me to on OTA firmware 2.2.1!
I never root before and android a bit new for me as well.
I had following up xda to learn how to root but now people say my 2.2.1 cannot root unless someone update hboot first.
I would make a small request if it's really kick-off can someone make a video/link (like xda-ians post in SGS) how to root using hboot step-by-step.
Thank you,

There is a step by step detailed guide here which is more than sufficient:

Obviously, it doesnt work for 2.2.1.

Why? We are not saying that when rooting is available, all people must root their phones. There are lots of people now (like me) who updated or bought the phone with 2.2.1 and now we can't root, and I really want to root again to be free to modify some things or overclock, AND CHANGE ROM.
So, there is no reason for what it should stay unrootable.

100% agreed,
If you upgraded, without caring about the risks, you deserve it. If you bought the phone with 2.2 already installed, you are not to be blamed.
It's just the fact that people that blindly tapped on"update" and then come here to ***** and whine are driving me mad.

Why would I/We "deserve" it? Who are you to judge us that way? There are a lot of reasons for what the upgrade was done, and none of them was doing it to then disturb about rooting. I know there are LOTS of people asking without stop, but for example I keep looking and twitter and unrevokedwiki expecting some update, and just replying to help people.
What you said is a closed-mind opinion... You can't even think another way that yours, and that's sad...

You may call me closed minded, it`s your call, but, I think that people need to learn to live with their decisions.
I`m not talking about you (but if you feel targeted, it`s not my problem), but If you don`t think before you act, you need to pay the price. Think of it this way:
Someone gives you a gun, and tells you that you can shoot anyone you want. You take the gun and shoot some people, but the police catches you. You`ll say "but that man told me I could shoot people with my gun, he`s to blame". NO! you are to be blamed, you decided to shoot those people.
Same thing with the 2.2.1 update. HTC gave you the update, but they did not make you install it. YOU installed it! It`s your choice. Consequences? You can`t root (for now). Don`t come around and whine about not being able to root.
The update was leaked 2-3 days before the official release. In all the topics, people said: "don`t flash it, it will kill/make you unable to root", but it was hopeless.
When and update announcement popped up on your phone, what did you do? Did you think"oooooh, it has an OK button, so I bet I must push it!" or did you think "Now, let`s do a little google search, see what is this update all about?"
If you answered the second one, good thing, you`re normal. If you answered the first....... I`m not gonna comment, because you will say that I`m a mean, close-minded man.

First of all, I'm sorry, I didn't really mean to offend. I was saying that you might get in my/our situation or position. The exact reason for what I flashed the 2.2.1 was because I wanted the stability of a complete official ROM to flash the OC kernel. At least to have something stable for sure and then try some new ROMs.
That's my exact case, and each person will have their reasons.
And for the record, I didn't see ANY message about "don't upgrade". You are more "senior member" if you want to say, but I'm not stupid. Could you just accept I made a mistake, as we all do? And now I am quietly waiting for unrevoked bringing the solution, without yelling "unrevoked please/go go go/ **** no unrevoked yet/ etc..."
As I always try to, smile
Hello All!!!
I know you all are bonding as a community going nuts waiting on root. Here is a place where you can discuss issues not necessarily Note 4 related. All we ask is that you still abide by the forum rules, keep it clean and keep it civil. We hope you all see root soon to kick off development!

Oh geez, I just remember the anxiety I had when I bought the HTC Evo when it first came out and rooted it day 1 lol. It literally took me hours before I got it right. I'm surprised I didn't brick the thing
l know it will do no good but I sent a Iong message to Verizon last night detailing the profit available to gain by offering an option to get an unlocked phone and other ideas.
It will never go beyond the first reader, but it made me feel better to get it out

There is also this petition in the S5 thread..and there was a poll somewhere that proposed a price for an unlock from Verizon but cannot find it now...will see if I stumble on it this morning.
Appreciate this thread. Yea I'm one of many desperately wanting root.
I guess we just need to relax a bit and appreciate what this phone is capable of "out of box".
It would still provide so much more if/when we were able to get it rooted.
Meanwhile, my hope is for other posters to come to this thread rather than to go off-topic in both the main "Bounty" thread & ".... Root" threads.
ha, best thing about this thread taking off is the idea the Root thread will update less filling me with false hope. This has really made me think about what Android is like without root, period. It's not as bad as back in the day using a non-jailbroken Apple device, but it definitely feels constrained. It's a constant disappointment reading about indie developed apps or other crazy creative ideas on XDA that are totally non-accessible on this phone. It just seems like a waste of...possibility. My highest praise to the Note 4 is that I don't think there's a better option available, even if root is an impossibility. But at the same time, it's the last totally locked down phone I'll buy.
So far not a fan of bootloader lock and no root think this is my last samsung phone I will buy.
Duck it. I like my N4 but it would be. great to have root someday
I really like my Note 4 even though it's the first Android device that I haven't rooted. The only thing I really miss is TB.

So I've searched around XDA, Reddit and the rest of the net trying to find any root method for this tablet. I just got this tablet for free as a deal with T-Mobile.
I see a lot of guides on XDA for older Tab A's, and also for what appears to be the WiFi variant of mine (a lot of 380 and 385), but nothing for T387. I've blindly rooted stuff and made mistakes in the past ambitiously trying to find root on older devices and have ended up in soft bricks and (even a hard brick on LG devices) in the past, and I'm not looking to make that mistake again. I do know that Samsung's variants have kind of homogenized a bit more the past few years also.
Will these root/TWRP guides for the 380/385 also work for my 4G variant of this tablet, or am I going to have to hope and wait someone makes something a bit more specific?
Just wanted to inquire.
Hey, I'm actually looking for the same info! Subscribed and am hoping to hear back.

Thanks man. I responded there but I think this is the same issue I have e with my 950u and snapdragon processor. Outta luck for the time being!

Can you tell me from where you got the combination file for this.
My problem now is that qualcomm secureboot is enabled and cant flash twrp.
Anyone can give a hint on bypassing the secure boot?
any luck?
Has there been any luck in rooting the SM-T387T?
Well, if this thread ever produces success be sure and let me know. I have the same combination files y'all have I'm sure.
Bump... surely someone has been able to root these devices by now.

I'm going to assume adb would be our friend here.
To elaborate, connect to adb with the tablet on and pull the kernel to Downloads. Use magisk to patch that Img and then try to push it back.
I'm joining you guys
In for +1 as well...
I have a Verizon T-387 would love to get Lineage or stock android on there.
Maybe we need to start a donation ring to attract developers.
Or feed this thread to show how amazing people we are
Btw I'm quite impressed by the tab A 2018 (our version), my nexus 7 died 2 month ago and I got the galaxy for "free"with a data plan. I chose it instead of a Huawei Mediapad T5 thinking that they would be equally slow with their 2 Gb of ram... But the Tab A is very fast and handle everything I throw to it very well and timely imho (YouTube, browsing, very light multitasking).
I don't know how the T5 would have behave but I'm glad that I chose the smaller 8' tab vs the 10" T5.
Nice thread
Hi all I'm looking for a root for this new galaxy t387t tablet. But I haven't seen anything yet except for this thread. Has anyone made any progress and rooted this device yet? Thanks in advance for any replies.
Stumbled across this thread. I've bought one on OfferUp that is google locked. Are the steps to bypass the same as for the T387 the same as for the t580 or t380?

im sorry? not sure where you saw that it was rooted? I have been working day in and day out looking for exploits to try and root it since it launched.. im talking 100s of hours.. theres no point in releasing something that A. isnt root. and B. that samsung can go and patch before it becomes anything remotely useful.
to add, I have friends n fellow devs i have worked countless hours with for years.. if they share something with me and ask i dont release it then I am not going to burn bridges and go against them, that would be very crappy for someone to do.. we trust eachother and if anything comes of it we work it out the best we can as we have released a high number of things to xda over the years including root on s8 s8+ n8 n9 to name a few so not sure y u r upset..
I was simply showing it is possible and has been done.. i figure its better to kno its possible then to have no hope whatsoever..
rant over.

On the Note 5 last year was more brutal, 15 days to wait.

You should to wait. There are (some) service(s) can help unlock it immediatly but they're need paid (about 23$) and only for miui 9.
I wonder why they are doing this. It's not like somebody hapless just stumbles into unlocking without knowing about the consequences. Also, it's useless as a security feature in case of stealery since you need your Mi account anyway on both the PC and the phone.
I used to be annoyed by the three days I had on the A1. A week is beyond annoying, especially on a phone with such thin sound over BT (I only root for V4A these days)

Well they do it since some don't know exactly what they are doing beyond unlock and flash TWRP so when they soft brick Xiaomi (specially in China, Russia and India) has to give support for the phones. This make people double think if they really want to go down that route.
Also, no brand want us to unlock the bootloader so the more they can do to avoid us to do so (but without losing the market of people who only buy Xiaomi to unlock) they will.

I frankly didn't read the EULA bla bla but usually when you unlock, the warranty is gone anyway.
Still annoying though.
It's an extra layer of security for people who don't unlock the bootloader. Means that if your phone gets stolen, the thief will have to wait at least a week before they can do anything with the phone.
Annoying, but at least we can unlock the bootloader eventually - most don't offer the option at all. There's no way around it, you just have to wait.
Hello, yah there are many reasons behind this unlock timer, but just because others don't offer such unlock option at all, does not mean we have to be cool about it. Xiaomi is known as cheap but quality brand beloved by modders when it comes to unleashing true hardware power. If it becomes strict about locking bootloaders, they're risking to loose a lot of customers.
Anyway.. I bought K20 and just as you - got stuck on this stupid waiting time. Most say its because to stop aftermarket unauthorized resellers, so nobody could buy a bunch of chinese Xiaomis, flash them with global roms and sell them with profit. Cmon Xiaomi... I'm just ONE man, my acc is associated with only ONE device - K20..
I got waiting time for 7 days. Tested famous method known in this forum such as using new and old unlocker - din't helped, so I decided to give up and wait.. Might as well use my K20 daily to see what I like, what I don't, how to pre-setup after unlocking bootloader. Oh, whats this - MIUI 11 update? Sure, lets try, if its bad, ill just flash MIUI 10 no prob after those 7 days.
OH HOW WRONG I WAS. Just because I updated to MIUI 11, my waiting time extended to 14days! FOR F SAKE XIAOMI! Why on Earth would You do that?? I'm the same user, on same device, same MI acc... This is out of my mind.
I got so annoyed by this, I started google all the methods possible, using two accounts, using many old unlockers, nothing helped. But you know what, my waiting time is now: 17days!!
ohhh god damnit.
Also i noticed one interesting recent youtube video, guy shows how to unlock K20 Pro / MI 9T Pro using two unlockers. The thing is, hes using new unlocker, then old one and when old one fails, hes quickly disconnects usb cable, puts in another port and - it works! Phone gets unlocked!
The old unlocker gets some "Unknown error -1" code. I'm not getting this code now, all I get is something: "Please download new version". But as far as I remember, I used to get that "Unknown error -1". Did Xiaomi patched this just seconds ago? Damn I was so close to unlocking
Seems like I can't post a link to a youtube video, so if you wanna find it, the exact title is: "Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro | Bootloader Unlock | Redmi K20 Pro | Detailed Guide" and the uploader is "munchy".
I was thinking, how does bootloader gets unlocked, it seems like the unlock code is already generated inside (at least at old ones Mi unlockers), cause it only takes reconnecting USB or for some people to only to try again.
I was trying with old unlocker to unplug my internet port right before phone gets unlocked and guess what I get? - "Unknown error -1". I experimented with this LAN unplugging and usb switching, din't helped, but maybe its because mine runing on MIUI 11? Maybe bootloader got updated too with new MIUI 11? Some of you might wanna try this with MIUI 10.
Sorry for long post, but if you are frustrated like me, this might spark some new ideas, there's got to be a way!

They do it to make more complicated for resellers to buy a Chinese phone, flash and sell it with international firmware
For an ordinary user there is no problem to wait 7 days (besides, people say they 'dont like' MIUI but barely even try to use it), and after that sky is your limit regarding the custom ROMs (except that some don't even do their homework to learn during those 7 days how to properly flash ROMs, etc)
The main reason Xiaomi has enforced this wait time is because of ad revenue. They make large sums of money from ads on MIUI. If people start installing custom ROMs, then they directly lose ad revenue from MIUI.
I'm pretty sure I read it somewhere that someone tried to bypass the limitation. Instead the date for shifted to a even long time.
