So I've searched around XDA, Reddit and the rest of the net trying to find any root method for this tablet. I just got this tablet for free as a deal with T-Mobile.
I see a lot of guides on XDA for older Tab A's, and also for what appears to be the WiFi variant of mine (a lot of 380 and 385), but nothing for T387. I've blindly rooted stuff and made mistakes in the past ambitiously trying to find root on older devices and have ended up in soft bricks and (even a hard brick on LG devices) in the past, and I'm not looking to make that mistake again. I do know that Samsung's variants have kind of homogenized a bit more the past few years also.
Will these root/TWRP guides for the 380/385 also work for my 4G variant of this tablet, or am I going to have to hope and wait someone makes something a bit more specific?
Just wanted to inquire.
Hey, I'm actually looking for the same info! Subscribed and am hoping to hear back.

Have you found anything?
Nope. I haven't. I opened a thread on reddit as well. I actually used the title of this post since it was perfectly worded and anyone searching the web will find both in the results. I hope speedanderson doesn't mind
Of course not!
Sorry, I forgot about this post and checking back I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who wants an answer to this.
I'm going to see if I can find your Reddit thread also just to keep tabs.
Edit: found it immediately. Sad to see nobody answered there I did give it silver in hopes it might make someone notice it
did you unlock the oem?
I am still unable to unlock it!
combination
flashed combination
oem unlock
trying to flash magisk
anyone tried twrp?
Thanks man. I responded there but I think this is the same issue I have e with my 950u and snapdragon processor. Outta luck for the time being!

Can you tell me from where you got the combination file for this.
My problem now is that qualcomm secureboot is enabled and cant flash twrp.
Anyone can give a hint on bypassing the secure boot?
any luck?
Has there been any luck in rooting the SM-T387T?
Well, if this thread ever produces success be sure and let me know. I have the same combination files y'all have I'm sure.
Bump... surely someone has been able to root these devices by now.

I'm going to assume adb would be our friend here.
To elaborate, connect to adb with the tablet on and pull the kernel to Downloads. Use magisk to patch that Img and then try to push it back.
I'm joining you guys
In for +1 as well...
I have a Verizon T-387 would love to get Lineage or stock android on there.
Maybe we need to start a donation ring to attract developers.
Or feed this thread to show how amazing people we are
Btw I'm quite impressed by the tab A 2018 (our version), my nexus 7 died 2 month ago and I got the galaxy for "free"with a data plan. I chose it instead of a Huawei Mediapad T5 thinking that they would be equally slow with their 2 Gb of ram... But the Tab A is very fast and handle everything I throw to it very well and timely imho (YouTube, browsing, very light multitasking).
I don't know how the T5 would have behave but I'm glad that I chose the smaller 8' tab vs the 10" T5.
Nice thread
Hi all I'm looking for a root for this new galaxy t387t tablet. But I haven't seen anything yet except for this thread. Has anyone made any progress and rooted this device yet? Thanks in advance for any replies.
Stumbled across this thread. I've bought one on OfferUp that is google locked. Are the steps to bypass the same as for the T387 the same as for the t580 or t380?

Anyone have a guide for my sprint tab to get rooted. I cant seem to find one except superoneclick or z4root and neither one of these worked. Also is there a good cwm? Im very experienced at rooting and flashing just cant seem to get my tab rooted.!!! Thanks!!!
update: i cant believe i couldnt find it it was right in front of my eyes im soooo sorry for this post!
In case anyone wants the link its here and i am now rooted it was super easy!

don't be sorry...
because you helped ME! i have a sprint galaxy tab and have not done anything with it since i got my gnote, so i have been searcing for how to root this thing...it did update once ota (i think--i have the whole set of tabs, and a captivate--it gets a bit confusing going from one to the other, i just tried using a non existent touch screen on my pc...) so i will try this. how did it go for you? mine is not activated thru sprint, i use it wireless only and cannot wait to get the sprint crap off of it!
You should already be on EF17 Gingerbread. Do this one instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161033&highlight=sprint
It doesn't matter if you are using 3G or not.
As I found out! I was getting frustrated until I realized that everything I found was going in a big loop to nowhere! Thanks for your input, i REALLY appreciate it, and will let you know how I do!
EDIT:
Just a quick question... Do I need to worry about these downloads to my pc as far as malware? I did download some files that came back as a threat with my anti virus - - files that were for ClockworkMod or even a whole kit to root a device (my tab--but i figured out they were for the version before the update that i have now) , but i think it is because it is software that roots android, and not because it is a real threat. I do worry about some of these download sites with the 'download' links all over the place... And only one of them is the file we need (i know how to tell the difference but still I can make a mistake - - My virus protection has indeed saved my ass a few times) any words of advice about this?
thanks again!
sent from my rooted i717 w/stock ics....and i love it!
No, no need to worry, they are false positive.
1.) Rooted S5 900V (Verizon Model) using towel root.
2.) Installed Safestrap Recovery.
All this went perfectly fine..
I forget exactly which ROM i tried to install but it boot looped my phone.
I need to know which ROMs i can use and which ones that i CANNOT,
Can i only use certain ROMs based off of which recovery i've installed?
What is ADB Side Load?
I want to ask all of these questions, no matter how noobish, so that i can write every single one of these things down in lamens terms for the average (or slightly below average) user.
If we understood what half of these options meant and would do we could do this stuff yourself and leave you guys alone so you can develop stuff for my Verizon S5 !!! lol
Not only that, but most of these ROM's come with ZERO instructions on how to install them properly. I mean i understand that if your flashing then you should have an underlying knowledge of what you doing but COME ON!!! BE smart about it. You take all that time to develop a decent ROM but don't but info on how to install it properly. WTF is the deal with that?
Also... Can i use Odin309 within Linux via Wine? I am trying to install the firmware i got from Sam's.
If you have a verizon S5, (SM-G900V) then you can only flash a rom, made by the devs here, for the 900V. If you try to flash a variants S5 rom, your phone will brick.
I always recommend that before somone flashes anything to their phone or tablet to do research on the subject. Read, and reread everything. Double check. Make sure you have everything you need.
Also, pretty much all of the devs have install instructions for their work in our phones dev section.

As of now, you can only use safestrap. Any of the current ROMs can be flashed by our current safestrap

Most? That's a bit harsh. Last I checked, most (if not all) of the ROM devs (including myself) provide thorough instructions. There is no "WTF deal".

No offense meant, but based on the questions you've asked I suggest you do more research before flashing anything on your phone.
The ROMs listed in this forum have pretty good install instruction for anyone who has a basic knowledge of what they are doing (err go the comment about doing more research).
Did you make a backup before you flashed the ROM you can't even remember the name of? What slot did you flash the ROM to?
It would be helpful if you could tell us what ROM you tried to flash and where you found it.
Always make a backup of your stock rom before flashing anything.
Thanks

I guess what i meant to say is that some information is just hard to locate. They keep the fancy art easy to see but the installation instructions you actually have to search for. I love the DEV's for there work, TRUST ME. Android wouldn't be Android without you guys.
I would like to get more involved in the XDA and AndroidForums to make a one stop shop for ALL of the popular devices. Basically, just gather up all pertinent information (after receiving permission from the dev) and put it in one nice and easy spot to read.

Yes. That is an excellent example of what i am wanting to do and I actually used it when i started reading up on my S5.The only thing is that it does not specify the Verizon 900V. So someone with any model phone could read that and brick their phone.
But i will want to go in to more detail such as exactly what the "NE9" is.. Is it an update? Firmware? What?
Regardless, i just want to add another page that has information that one that already exists, such as that one, may be missing.
There is WAY too much information about our phones to say that one page covers every single aspect of it.
I'm just wanting to help clearly state the information thats already out there. Alot of these people are already busy and cannot give 110% towards there pages.

I think we both know that one carriers phone could have compatible root/roms for others carrier's phones. Specifying the model name i would think would be the most appropriate way. You have to realize not everyone has been doing this for as long as you and does not necessarily have a keen eye for such things..
There is absolutely nothing wrong with over explaining things.
With that being said, i do believe that post is an extremely helpful page.
But discussing whether or not the page has enough information is not worth debating over.
When i find time to do my own then we can have this discussion.
I mentioned i wasn't exactly sure how i boot looped my. Still don't because I can't remember for the life of me which ROM it was! I thought i book marked it... Whichever one it was, it wanted me to flash 3-4 different zips once in SafeStrap. First ZIP is when the boot loop occuured.
ANYWAY...
I installed SafeStrap using the instructions found HERE.
I wanted to install THIS ONE because it had the KTweaker which is totally awesome toplay with but i dont think my 900-V allows sit.\\
BUT:
I want as many people's opinion as possible on this (I will create a separate thread). I have T-Mobile but was old a Verizon Phone. I have issues with dropped calls, slow speeds, among others. I want to know if this is legal.
Any and all are welcome to respond as i feel they should pay for making me pay $60 fora cab (Oneway) and then selling me a crap phone. Plus the wall charger didn't work. The data cable did so at least i had another wall charger.
In Case your Wondering... yes i do have the receipt.
THE BEST PART IS: T-Mobile said they've never heard of them when i called and gave them the address off of the receipt.
Honestly, i would like to go in there and walk out with another S5, maybe even with this one paid off, lol. But PLEASE ALL OPINIONS ARE WELCOME.

You need to seriously stop and do a lot more reading before you try anything else with your phone. The ROM you linked above that you said you want to flash is for the International version of the Galaxy S5 and will hard brick your phone. The forum where that ROM is posted (Samsung Galaxy S5) is for the International version. The US variants of the S5 are broken down by carrier. Hence this is the Verizon Galaxy S5 forum. You bought your phone from some fly-by-night place, and it turned out to be a Verizon variant when you needed a T-Mobile variant.
If you are going to keep the Verizon variant you bought and use it on T-Mobile, you will only get Edge speeds through T-Mobile and never get 4G speeds. It is legal to use a Verizon phone on T-Mobile's network, it just won't work as well as you have already experienced. You need to change the APNs on your phone to get the best performance you can on T-Mobile. But it's still not going to be as good as using the T-Mobile variant on the T-Mobile network. If you went into that store and specifically asked for a T-Mobile Galaxy S5 and they sold you a Verizon variant, they would have a problem. If you went into the store and simply bought the cheapest S5 they had without telling them you needed a T-Mobile variant, then that is completely legal on their part. You don't need to create a separate thread to get everyone's opinions on the legality of your purchase. What I said above pretty much sums it up.
Also, if you are planning on keeping the Verizon variant and want to flash a ROM through safestrap, the ROM you want to flash has to be of the same build as the current build on your phone. So if your S5 is on NHA, you should only flash an NHA based ROM in safestrap. Or if you phone is on NI2, an NI2 based ROM. So letting everyone know which build your phone currently has will help us let you know which ROMs are safe to flash on your phone.
Sorry if all of this comes across as harsh, but I'm trying to help prevent you from turning your phone into a useless paperweight. You seem very confused by a lot of the information found here in the forums, and that is a very good time to slow down, take your time, and make sure you understand what you are doing at every step.

ALL of this information can be confusing and I doubt anyway one will deny that fact. The MAIN point is that i know how to fix it, right? This is why I eventually want to make a straight-forward thread about how to do things to which phone properly.
People learn from their mistakes.
I have been learning more and more as i go along but the fact i have T-Mobile service but a Verizon phone just added to the confusion.
Secondly i went in to a T-Mobile Store, so of course i wanted a T-Mobile phone, not a Verizon one. See, everyone makes stupid mistakes and misinterprets things

I didn't make a stupid mistake and misinterpret anything. Please show me where in your previous posts you wrote you went to a T-Mobile store. OK Your right, i didn't meantion it. You feel like your testosterone levels have increase now? Jesus.
From the moment you've replied to my posts you've had an attitude that is barely detectable.
Thanks for your help but you need to get out more and learn some people skills, dude. ****.
Look dude, we get it. You went and bought a new toy and couldnt wait to play with it. We're all guilty of that at some point. But blaming your mistakes on someone else, like when you blame the devs for not being straight forward with their roms, although with every example you have given here they really have been, all you need to do is read their posts, you'll get what your getting now. The only one you have to blame here is yourself. For not researching what you have first and just jumping into flashing a rom that was not developed for the phone you actually have. Received the update to Android 7.0 NRD90M (from Preview 5) last night.
Wifi or LTE?
---------- Post added at 08:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:33 AM ----------
I enrolled my Nexus 9 LTE in the Beta program and got DP5 yesterday. Today I got the update to full Android 7.0.
I did the same (beta program) 2 hours ago for my N9 WiFi, received the full Android 7 and installed; then removed from beta with no need to reinstall all (I agreed to receive the OTA for a official Android version but nothing is arrived...).

not that i've come across but why would you need one? stock img is available from google
edit: you could even take the extremely lazy route (as long as you're on fully stock) and sign into the beta program for N, it updates almost immediately
My device is not recognised for the beta program. Any ideas why. I flashed the full version any way but just curious. Nexus 9 wi-fi.

It has nothing to do with being lazy... Lol..... It has to do with ADB. I know that I can use ADB and side load this from my PC using TWRP. But usually there is a rooted version out hours after Google releases a new OS. I was just checking to see of anyone made one yet. That's all. I see now that there isn't one so I will wait until one is made and shared. Thank you though for replying to my post.

Actually .. if you're waiting for someone to post a zip flashable version that's already rooted, instead of just flashing the files with fastboot, then flashing superSu, I'd call that pretty lazy too. Lol

Call it what you will. I am not going to argue with you. I already have it on and rooted, so I'm not lazy. I do video reviews and a large portion of my subs are new to android. I just wanted to try and find an easy to flash, one step process for them to follow but you cant even ask for something like that here without someone doing exactly this. Its a shame really and its no wonder that some people find it hard to enjoy this side of Android. Thank you again for you response.

Going to have to disagree with you on this one. If you are doing any of this stuff to your device, it's best you know how to fix it if it doesn't work out. IMHO, if you are on the Nexus line, you should be adb/fastboot proficient.
I can understand why people don't like responses like ours, but honestly the world has become way too coddled. People want everything NOW. Answer my question, I don't want to search. For the people who have been around for a while, that gets old. I have no qualms helping people out, but people are overly sensitive to everything. I'm not trying to argue either. Wasn't trying to come off negative, was just being playful. If that gets misconstrued as something that would make people not want to visit this site, then I say they seriously need a dose of reality.

Just don't bother saying anything at all then this thread won't get filled up with your disagreements... Or at least just private message them:good:

Agreed to disagree. I wasn't asking for anything right away or demanding of anything of the sort. I simply asked a question. I searched and did what was required on my part. And I didn't ask you personally for you're help. It was a simple question asked in general. Either there is a yes response or no response at all.
I have also been around for a while and am not new to this forum or android. I know the rules and before I posted I checked. All I'm saying is if there is no help or answer to my question, and there isn't, I go my mary way with no response and I keep searching on my own. I get it. Look at my posts, I don't treaty people like idiots. If I don't have an answer for a post, I Just don't reply. I am not going to waist my day in argument over something this trivial. I am sorry to have disturbed you or anyone one else for that matter in this thread and I sincerely apologize, it's just a shame that it's needed, but I'll respect that since I wasn't the one to start this thread. Again thank you for your reply.

Not replying has also had people come back to threads mad that nobody replied, lol. It's a dammed if you do, dammed if you don't type situation. *shrug* oh well I guess.

Just thinking out loud, but maybe you are not best placed to pass on your "knowledge" to beginners if you yourself don't know much/enough about the subject?

Got my update yesterday via OTA . I must say I am slightly underwhelmed by the performance now. Especially Chrome feels much more laggy and sluggish. Scrolling was smoother before.
Anyone else with the same experience?

I haven't updated yet, so I don't know if the following applies to N, and, since you took the OTA you're probably not interested in a custom kernel, and, I don't even know what kernels are available, but, what the hell, just in case: Chrome was extremely slow for me, too, until I installed ElementalX and set Readahead to 128.

I'm afraid that I don't understand your comment.
Purchased a refurb S7 on eBay on the premise that it'd likely be on old firmware like most refurbs and I'd be able to root easy peasy- turns out it's running android 8.0.0 and baseband G930PVPSACSF1 and had everything updated last month and promptly wanted to check for even more updates when I started it up.
I've seen a lot of back and forth about which s7's can be rooted but nothing specific to this version as for some inexplicable version it appears Sprint released this update just recently for a three year old device.
I've spent most of this evening searching and haven't found anything that seems to indicate one way or the other. If I've missed something super obvious, I'd be grateful if somebody could point me in the direction of whatever reading I need to do to figure this out.
Thanks for any info you can point me to!
EDIT: One other thought- I've been looking into whether Magisk is a possible solution but I've seen a lot of different info as to whether it would even work on this variant of the phone, especially since TWRP seems to only have recoveries available for the international variants. Am I wasting time looking that way? I've also posted on the Magisk discussion thread to ask about it but I thought it was worth checking this forum as well since it's specifically for this phone.
Same issue
Have the same issue and can't find a root method for this phone too. Would like to remove the Sprint bloatware
Any news about it guys? I have the same phone and would like to root it. Willing to be the test dummy if it helps

No and I wouldn't hold by breath either. Rooting has always been iffy on this phone from the start
@CyberSA @ekco06 I haven't seen anything and I'm torn between going ahead and flashing the 930U firmware and just returning the phone and getting something easier to root. The main thing I need is to be able to have unlimited wifi tether which seems to be possible with that firmware, but being able to use Titanium backup would also be really nice as it's been a staple for me so far.

Check out pdanet. It works well, but requires you to create a proxy to connect, but super easy. Probably won't work on game consoles, but works well on PCs
Quick update: Jumping ship. This phone is being returned and I'm grabbing a google pixel xl - much cheaper, same general age, less bloatware, easier to root, and better camera from all indications.
Good day. I'm a recent convert to OnePlus from LG. Learned the ins and outs of rooting and flashing on that device primarily through reading, and asking for help in the forums. Would anyone be willing to help by pointing me in the direction of info that would help me get started. Obviously I want to root and possible flash custom on this device at some point. Thanks.

Hey,
Welcome to the dark side
Here's my guide on the bootloader and root for Android 10
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8-pro/how-to/guide-unlocking-bootloader-rooting-t4151823
If you're already on 11 then just use the bootloader guide and skip to the next guide below.
Here's also my guide on how to obtain a boot img, the software needed, how to extract it, how to upgrade whilst retaining root or how to root 11 directly, 2 methods..
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8-pro/how-to/root-uk-eu-patched-magisk-boot-img-t4175033
If you have any questions, just ask away.
The OnePlus uses a two slot system..so if you're booted and you flash a boot img it'll go to the other slot.
There also no TWRP for Android 11 yet, but truth be told you simply don't need it..
My advice would be (if you want to unlock etc) is to get updated and rooted, then grab xXx NoLimits which is a magisk ROM.
Really appreciate your response! I'll do my best to not be a complete bother. I am pretty good at studying up before making attempts, but have been known to sound a bit frantic when I get into a perceived mess. Always appreciated the supportive ones in these forums. Peace!

No worries pal.
Read and create a structure in your head of what's going on.
If you're not sure then ask or eliminate the possibilities.

I just came from the Pixel line....took me a bit to get Verizon to properly activate my device but this thing is sweet. I am currently on the xXx NoLimits. The one thing I miss about Android 10 is being able to force fullscreen on certain apps of mine. I've done it for years for certain situations using a root app. Now it no longer works since they did away with the ability in A11. I did notice a "Apps to Display in Fullscreen" under Advanced in Display settings.....nothing there though. What's that all about?

Lol no idea mate, there is a thread about it but not sure if it'll gain any traction.
The emulators I use all go full screen including the cutout.
Check out my centre clock mod in themes and apps..
Plus the energy ring for battery round the camera cutout..
Just looks better
Welcome aboard, dlads posted some good information there , cheers.
