Hi folks,
I will set up my 6t on Tuesday, switching from my 3t. Does the 6t (direct from OP, NOT the T-mo) have a built in APN set up for ATT? Or do I need to configure one? And if so, what is the current optimal setting list to use?
Thanks!

The device should pick up the APN once you insert your SIM. I didn't have to manually enter anything when I set mine up.
I've setup my new 60. It's going great! The SIM card did result in not one but two AT&t APNs and it automatically chose one called something like next-gen smartphone. The other one AT&t phone is the setting that I used to use on older devices. for now I'm leaving it on the next-gen one because everything seems to be working including visual voicemail with speech to text. The only thing I haven't noticed is VOLTE coming on but I don't really care that much about it.
Picture attached.

Could you go into the APN setting, and see if there is anything different, than the standard at&t settings
see if any of the following are different
MMSC
MMSC Proxy
MMS Port
MCC
MNC
APN Type
APN Protocol
TIA
Just curious
The Nextgenphone APN supports faster LTE speeds as well as VoLTE. I had issues when I first got my 6T and lost LTE service for a couple of days when I was using the Nextgenphone APN. When I switched to AT&T Phone APN, I was able to get data but it was only 3G speeds.
To enable VoLTE, you need to follow the instructions in this post, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78073766&postcount=6. After you tick the VoLTE switch, in OnePlusLogKit, go into the SIM settings and you should now have the option to enable VoLTE. Turn that on and if your line is provisioned properly, you should have VoLTE. You may need to reboot.
Were you able to activate AT&T Visual Voicemail app?

I'm attaching screen shots of the Next Generation APN settings here. The only difference I see is that the APN Type / Protocol support both IPv4/IPv6 (ATT Phone supports just IPv4).

I haven't yet gone through the VOLTE process described above. PResumably I will one day but I rarely use the phone for talking and when I do the standard stuff works fine.
No problems activating ATT Visual Voicemail. After activating it, I called from another phone, left a message, and almost instantly got a notification, and when I went to the app, my transcribed text was waiting as well as the listening controls. Note, I did have to go into settings after activation and turn on the transcribe function, which is off by default.

Not sure actually. It came either from my Google backup or via OnePlus switch. But it's in the play store. I'm using a version dated October 2018.

Hi everyone, first of all, i apologise for my bad english.
Yesterday i finnally got my N4. It is the first time I have an android device, plus i am having issues with it, it is all more difficult. Here is the thing:
When you start your device at first, you are supposed to follow some first steps, i skipped the part of the sim (I still need to cut it), i entered my wifi, and when it Comes to enter your Google account, it gives me an error that pretty scares me: it says something like "a reliable connection to the server cannot be established, it is possible that this is about a temporal error or that the android device isnt prepared to data services, If the problem persists, call the customer service"
After that, my device doesnt sync for gmail, chrome, everything else, i cannot acces play store due to an error it gives me, i also cannot surf the net, use any application that requires internet (all of them :S?)
Ive tried everything I think its in my hand before posting. Rebooting, logging out reboot and logging in again, erasing all (the big default reset), etc, and it doesnt get solved ;(
I would appreciate a lot if you could point me in the right direction, but i think the device is broken somehow, and i"ll have to send it to be repaired :S
Thank you in advance.
are you sure it is connected to your wifi? check in the settings/about phone/status to see if you have an IP address

Ive rechecked the thing about the wifi, 54Mbps, it gives me an ip adress, when im not connected to any account it doesnt appear the top left warning synbol, now it appears some downloading symbol (dont know for what)
I think it is a problem with your router or ip setup.
Try this:
Set wireless connection ip-s with static and same as you get automatically from router. And DNS server put 8.8.8.8

I have already tried that too, the only part I skippped is the microsim one, i only have a sim on my old phone, i dont dare to cut it if then it doesnt work on is device and ill have to wait until i receive the microsim to sim adaptor.
As it follows, i enter my wifi data, that doesnt give me any error, and after that, the gmail account (which is the same I used to buy the device). After 2min or so, it gives me the error comented on #1 :s
I dunno if it does matter, but i mean factory restore as the option inside settings > security copy > restore factory data
Thank you.

Thank you for that explanation, but i am afraid it doesnt solve the problem. By using the 8.8.8.8 (static connection) dns, chrome gives me the error that there is no connection to wifi, if i use the same dns i have on my ipad, it says, connection acceptable, but it takes years to load a page (in case it does)
Thank you all for your effort, i rly appreciate that.
Can you :
- configure the same network configuration that you have on your tablet, on your phone (IP,netmask,DNS, network, gateway)
- disable networking on your tablet
- try again.
If it fails, you should think about sending it back.

You can also flash back the factory images but since you are still under warranty and don't really used to this kind of technical stuff, i won't advise you to do so.
Just keep in mind that sadly, the device is very popular and that Google will have new phones available only in about 3 weeks.

I am trying to setup my T-Mobile Straight Talk service on my N4...
The ST website gave the following APN settings:
Smart Phone:
APN Name: Straight Talk
APN: wap.tracfone
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com
All Other Phones:
APN Name: Straight Talk
APN: wap.tracfone
Proxy: 216.155.165.40
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.40
MMS Port: 8080
When I try to set that up, the N4 also wants a setting for MCC and MNC ...
What should those be for T-Mobile ST ?
Thanks

I finally got through to Straight Talk.
They gave me these settings:
MCC: 302
MNC: 103
In any case, I cannot get the APN to save.
See this thread:

The Straight Talk customer service person is insisting that I cannot cut the mini sim down to micro size that it won't work.
Many folks have said that they got T-Mobile Straight Talk to work on their N4, so this person must be mistaken, no?
Help!
It does save but you'll need to reset the phone (turn it off and then on) and they will appear
Btw mine is a T Mobile SIM and it is cut... How ever I'm not brave enough to cut it so I went to a cell phone repair shop to get it done for 5 bucks... I know I could of bought the tool myself but for what? To use it once and that's it? But oh well what matters is that the darn thing works, thank god!
The phone person will tell you not to do it because if they tell you to do it then when you f*uck the SIM up then you can say that it was their fault... She is just covering her own butt

Try this!
to me it seems like your APN settings are set to T mobile (epc.tmobile.com)
that will work if your using T mobiles service directly from t mobile using their SIM card.
however your using Straight Talk's flavor of T mobile so your going to need the settings that this guy poasted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993973&highlight=straight+talk&page=2
do this... type them in to your APN and then click save like 3 times... then reset the phone. then go back to APN and it still not be there... again type it again and then click out... and then it should show up!
let me know what happens

Anyone else experiencing this issue? Whenever I'm connected to Wi-Fi, all is good, makes me wonder if it's not carrier related, and would be Bell Mobility the problem.

Yes I have been getting the same thing for the past week. Any solution?
First it started with a CAPTCHA message if I did a search from the native Internet browser.
Said something like we are experiencing unusual traffic from your network, and gave a 206.x.x.x IP address.
If I did a search on that IP address it came out to be bell server.
I had downloaded firefox, and it was working ok on it for a while since for some reason the ip address showed up as 185.x.x.x server.
Now I am getting the same CAPTCHA from firefox as well. I think the issue is between bell and google server.

I believe to have found my problem, when doing a search on "what's my IP address", I was always getting something weird and something saying a proxy, so I tried something, knowing it can't get any worse.
I deleted all proxy settings in my APN, and since then, everything has been working great, I now have a different IP address that's probably not flagged as "spam" and all is working great now.
So all in all, just had to delete the proxy from my Bell APN, and all is good!

Basically what people do who don't want to pay outrages prices and/or are cheap bastards will use t-mobile's network to tether through a vpn. What this does is makes a third party app force the tethering on so you can use internet from your phone to other devices/computer/tvs etc. without getting the upsell page from t-mobile. T-mobile uses a user-agent string identifier that blocks all data that's identified as not a mobile device, to make it where you can't tether to your computer or console. Now using a vpn (virtual private network) while tethering allows all of your data to be encrypted; essentially the data is seen by t-mobile but they can't determine what it is so they don't block it. I think a lot of the reason why people do this is because you can use the same amount of data on your phone as you can on a computer. (I've actually used 110 gigs one month with no access to wifi without torrenting.). Not talking about downloading a **** load of torrents. But in general use t-mobile's network can handle it. But if everyone starts downloading torrents/tethering, it will severely impact network service.
wait can some tell me exactly what a vpn is and when and why i would want to use it
Well if you're not worried about privacy/tracking/surfing anonymously then I wouldn't worry about it, but if you are I would use a vpn. If you want to read a wall of text explaining what a vpn is and what it does click here. Using a vpn for tethering just allows you to bypass t-mobile's upsell page for their tethering plans. (they use a user-agent string). So it has many benefits. Very little cons, main ones are just reduction in speed/higher ping depending on the amount of server hops you have to do.

ohh ok! thanks
so whenever i want to tether and not be charged (or w.e you want to call it) just activate this vpn apn and then when im done switch back to my original apn ?
the apn is just the access point name, which just determines how you're connecting to the web on t-mobiles network, the only difference between the 2 apns listed is the protocol you're going through, IPv4 or IPv6 or IPv4/IPv6. For the VPN to work the traffic has to be routed through IPv4. Using the wifi tether router app (costs money) allows you to enforce tethering. the vpn encrypts your data so t-mobile can't detect what packets you are sending. That why you need both for this to work on other devices/computers/tvs etc.

by both i meant the vpn and tethering for external devices other than your phone. You only need the one APN IPv4 for tethering, You can leave it on that apn and your phone will still work just like normal.

one more question..is there any downside for using it? like slow in performance or anything

Using a VPN does have performance hits, but depending on how you have it setup they can be negligible. I personally use Private Internet Access daily and while there are speed hits because of the encryption, they aren't really noticeable.
Rasy tether amazon appstore app, tether without root
I found an app on the Amazon app store that allows you to tether through a USB or bluetooth without having to root. Its called Easy tether pro. Its $9.99 i think, I got lucky abbey found out while amazon was giving away a bunch of apps last year. if you want to tether to a computer you have to install software on the computer and set it up, it is really easy to do. If you want to tether via Bluetooth to another mobile device that's has bluetooth you install easy tether tablet on the receiving device then it's a simple as pairing the devices via bluetooth and turning on each other on both ends. typically I just tether to my tablet so a vpn has the necessary I have on occasion tethered to the computer using it and haven't run into any problems yet. Now I do have to say that I have an unlimited data plan which gives me 3 gigs of tethering per month anyway which I rarely use up so t-mobile may have noticed that I was tethering to a computer but since I had not used my three gigs they didn't say anything. I was going to lonk them however I have not reach my 10 post limit As a newbie yet, but they are not hard to find.
Any idea on how to get this working? I've edited build.prop and added dun to apn... But my hotspot still shows data being taken from my hotspot allotment instead of just from my regular data allotment. I have unlimited data and only 8gb hotspot
On dev preview 4 btw
I am interested in this. Anyone have any ideas??

Also did the settings db edit with adb with no success
Only thing that has worked for me on T-Mobile (which metro pcs probably uses the same detection methods) is to do the settings db edit, add "dun" to the APN type, change the APN protocol to ipv4 instead of ipv6 and to also use a VPN to route all traffic through. If one of these steps are missed then tethering usage will show up.

The APN Protocol doesn't have anything to do with your wifi hotspot. Ipv4 is 32 bit IP addresses and Ipv6 is 128 bit IP addresses. Depending on where in the country you are one may work better for you as far as cell phone and data reception goes. I tend to get stronger signal with IPV4.
Bow when it comes to tethering........
Use a root browser to explore and navigate to
Data/system/dropbox and delete everything inside. Then change the permissions of that folder to "r - -
- - -
- - -"
Do the same for data/system/netstats
And data/system/procstats
See the pics I attached. They'll explain everything.
I've been doing this on all my devices that run lollipop and up with no issue. And I have a Nexus 7 (2013) built into the dash of my GMC Sierra that I use to stream YouTube or Pandora or surf the web. It pulls from my hotspot everyday on the way to and from work. About an hour each way. As well as anytime I'm in the truck. And I pull 125 to 150 gigs a month. About half through my hotspot. And I'm on an unlimited 4g LTE data plan. So I should normally have to pay for the hotspot.

I do realize that but if the VPN provider does not support ipv6, the this method will not work, but I'll assume you already knew that....

Great tip, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately it does not seem to work on my LG G5 on Metro Any idea if it only works for stock Android? My ROM is the T-Mobile ROM, so there could be something else at play.

I'm on pure nexus ROM. Native tethering is included. It's working fine.
