Nexus 4 straight talk t mobile settings - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have setup my nexus 4 with the general straight talk APN settings. I was wondering if there I'd a way to set it up to get faster data speeds, also my network is named home not t mobile or straight talk

Where did you get your APN settings?

Just put in the APN settings on the activation card. By the way what are your speeds now and where are you located.

I am trying to setup my T-Mobile Straight Talk service on my N4...
The ST website gave the following APN settings:
Smart Phone:
APN Name: Straight Talk
APN: wap.tracfone
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com
All Other Phones:
APN Name: Straight Talk
APN: wap.tracfone
Proxy: 216.155.165.40
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.40
MMS Port: 8080
When I try to set that up, the N4 also wants a setting for MCC and MNC ...
What should those be for T-Mobile ST ?
Thanks

I finally got through to Straight Talk.
They gave me these settings:
MCC: 302
MNC: 103
In any case, I cannot get the APN to save.
See this thread:

The Straight Talk customer service person is insisting that I cannot cut the mini sim down to micro size that it won't work.
Many folks have said that they got T-Mobile Straight Talk to work on their N4, so this person must be mistaken, no?
Help!

It does save but you'll need to reset the phone (turn it off and then on) and they will appear
Btw mine is a T Mobile SIM and it is cut... How ever I'm not brave enough to cut it so I went to a cell phone repair shop to get it done for 5 bucks... I know I could of bought the tool myself but for what? To use it once and that's it? But oh well what matters is that the darn thing works, thank god!
The phone person will tell you not to do it because if they tell you to do it then when you f*uck the SIM up then you can say that it was their fault... She is just covering her own butt

In fact I am getting a triangle exclamation in the notification bar:

Try this!
to me it seems like your APN settings are set to T mobile (epc.tmobile.com)
that will work if your using T mobiles service directly from t mobile using their SIM card.
however your using Straight Talk's flavor of T mobile so your going to need the settings that this guy poasted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993973&highlight=straight+talk&page=2
do this... type them in to your APN and then click save like 3 times... then reset the phone. then go back to APN and it still not be there... again type it again and then click out... and then it should show up!
let me know what happens

Iv'e seen a couple of threads talking about these new programs pple are making, i tried the arksoft mms cuz it was free but it doesnt seem to send the messeges, some error occurs and just puts the messeges in the drafts folder, any reason for this? This is a common issue.
I have Verizon.. If you have Verizon Keep reading, otherwise search the forums for all the proper reg settings.
You need to make sure all the server settings are correct.
there are also a few reg keys you need to change.
VERIZON MMS SETTINGS FOR ARCSOFT MMX 5.0.XX
MMS Settings:
Server Name: Verizon MMS <this can be whatever you want
Gateway: Blank
Port: 80
Server Address: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
Connect Via: The internet
Send Limit: 300k
Wap Version: 2.0
**** I have seen the Server address reported as VZW.com where I have VTEXT.com on may posts. I had this setting but could not send.. I made a few changes including this server address and I was able to send. I do not know if it was the server address or one of the other changes, but everything works perfect for me.
Also Check the Following Reg Keys:
HKLM>Software>Arcsoft>Arcsoft MMS UA>Config>MM1>Wspheader
Modify or add a new string called X-VzW-MDN with the value of your 10 digit number.
X-VzW-MDN 5554443333
Modify the following to look like this:
User Agent: utstar68kv1
x-wap-profile: http://uaprof.vtext.com/utstar/xv68k/xv68k.xml
Accept-Charset: us-ascii;utf-8;iso-10646-ucs-2;iso-8859-1
I'm fairly certain these are all the changes I've made.
It's also a good idea to backup these settings to a .reg file... so if you decide to flash a new firmware, or upgrade your Arcsoft Version you can just apply the .reg.. (Yes upgrading Arcsoft, deletes your previous settings.)
Dam, I have sprint, this suck, lol I hope someone might have the right tools to maybe find a solution to this problem of picture and file mail
Alright I have set up a new server for the mail but I don't have a clue about how to modify the registry . Can someone give me a play by play on this?

I'll apologize in advance if is this is a really dumb question. I know how to make the registry changes. But where do I change that first group of settings?
Go to sms/mms , tap the menu at the bottom and go to mms options. then go to the server tab , tap the add new server put in the info above then set it as default server. Then you are good to go. It will send and receive after this is done but it will not show that it is coming from you until after the registry is tweaked . I finally got that done on mine this afternoon and it seems to be working great .
Let me tell you there are no dumb questions here . I am a total newb here and this has all blown my mind that this stuff can be done.
some guy sMMS works great for me. As far as I know its free still you just get a naggy 5 second advertisement at the beginning and before you send your message. It's worked pretty flawless. Cmon though is $5 really that much to get rid of the ads?
Would this work for me?
I have a sprint mogul but it is on Pageplus network, under verizon wireless
After a flash didnt backup IOTA, so now the gps wont work, and have no idea where to go, it keeps trying to "Vison" so I have no idea where to go
awwww crap!!! im trying to do this with telus using dcds 3.23 and i was told that itsa a carrier specific problem, it just can't be done on telus' network. so, regardless of the rom i cannot send mms. oh someone PLEASE prove me and the telus data network guy wrong
I have been trying to get MMS working on Telus also but everything fails. I now get this Forbidden error message coming up when trying to send out the message.

HELP NEEDED! - Newly flashed (SwiftDroid_v2.0_RC4_recovery) GT540 SWIFT with no 3G

After upgrading my new GT540 SWIFT from 2.1 to 2.3, I lost the 3G connection with T-Mobile (USA). 2G connection can be established after manually filling in the APN info. Trying to search the previous posts but found little help. Very frustrated.
I do confess that, during flashing ROMs, there was a glitch. I first started with win7 driver, followed by KDZ and recovery (2.5.1.8) installation. From there, I tried to flash SwiftDroid_v2.0_RC4_recovery, but the reboot after completion of flashing halted so that I had to unplug the battery. Then I flashed SwiftDroid_v2.0_recovery_M6, followed by SwiftDroid_v2.0_RC4_recovery. Both operations were done without problem. Well, here am I with no 3G connection just as mentioned above.
Any suggestion will be welcomed.
3G enabled?
There's an option for using only 2G networks. Go to Settings --> Wireless & Networks --> Mobile networks, then see if 'Use only 2G networks if checked'. Uncheck it if it is. Re-flash the ROM if it is not enabled. You should erase all your data. If you're on fastboot type "fastboot erase userdata". Remember that it'll erase all 'your' apps.
Got Reply from T-Mobile
I called T-Mobile CSR this morning and was fed with following msg:
1. GT540 is not capable of using T-Mobile data service (2G or 3G). (WTH?!)
2. ... unless you UPGRADE to a $30/m plan which is consistent with this phone (mine is currently $10/m unlimited 3G).
Actually, I can use the browser to reach the T-Mobile web2go.com. After that, you can either CANCEL or UPGRADE. I guess this shows they just want more $$ out of my pocket before giving a GO.
Any idea I can circumvent this trap? Thanks!
You probly need to re-enter you apn to get your data plan to work. i have to do it all the time

1. Load of crap, if it "wasn't capable" it would not register onto the network. It's a Quad-Band 2G phone, so it can access 99.99% of 2G Networks (Those that it can't access, use IMIE filtering to allow only devices they have sold to use their network)
2. Yer... NO, you already have a plan... which WILL work, it's just a matter of trial and error to find the right settings.

These are the 3 variations of the APN settings I can find for T-Mobile US, give them a shot and see if one of them doesn't work for you. They use 1700 MHZ/2100 MHz for 3G, the GT540 is 900mhz/2100mhz capable so it can access their 3G network (Altho maybe only in certain area's, you can check if you are on their 3G or 2G network in "Settings" -> "About Phone" -> "Status" and look at Network Type, GSM & EDGE = 2G, UMTS & HSPDA = 3G)... just needs to be set right. (Yer, they are just trying to raid your pockets... nothing new from T-Mobile)
If you are only getting 2G access (Which would only be due to their not using the 2100 mhz in your area, which is doubfull) then it is possible that the data plan will not work, if it's been set to work only with their 3G network. (Which knowing them... it just might be.)
Added Reference: (Source: Wikipedia)
Radio frequency spectrum bands accessible by T-Mobile USA customers using compatible devices
850 MHz - GSM/GPRS/EDGE - 2G - (GT540 is compatible)
1900 MHz - GSM/GPRS/EDGE - 2G - (GT540 is compatible)
1700 MHz/2100 MHz - UMTS (W-CDMA)/HSPA - 3G (Marketed as 4G) - (GT540 is 2100 MHz compatible) -- P.S. Gotta love their false advertising, selling 3G as 4G.
Source: LG
GT540 & GT540f: 2G Network GSM 850/900/1800/1900
GT540: 3G Network HSDPA 900/2100

Now if you have to call them back, you'r at least a little wiser to their cons ;-)
LG gt540 or not?
Hi there guys,
I'm considering buying the LG gt540, but I am not sure if it will work with the T-mobile 3g network? This phone only comes unlocked and I've read that unlocked phones, while they usually have no issue with talking/texting- the MMS (sending photos and using the internet) usually needs to be configured. So after configuration, it shouldn't have any issues right? I live in the USA by the way, and from what I understand this was released in Europe...while I love the style of this phone I am questioning the compatibility.
Thanks a bunch!
stock roms should have no problems with all this 3g data stuff but if you are going to upgrade to a custom rom then some will need to do all this config stuff but a custom rom that i know oxygen rom which is 2.3.7 comes with a whole list of apn(which is what they are talking above) preinstalled for you so no configs needed!!
Thanks!
Thanks for your reply!
I am looking at this particular one on eBay: [okay since I am new I couldn't post the link yet as a rule, but if you go on eBay and search for "180756316547", you will see it haha]
OR
this one at n1 wireless: [could not post link yet since i am new] Go to the n1wireless.com and search for "LG gt540 pink" , thanks.
Although the second store received questionable ratings...
Do you know whether these are stock or custom roms?
If you scroll a bit down, the Pink one has a service for +$15.00 so that they will configure your phone to the T-mobile network for you. Is that worth paying for or can I do it myself easily? Thanks you guys are great!
you can do the configs yourself only if you know what it is but if you dont and you have a data bundle you can just bring it to the telco t-mobile or anything im sure they will do it for you for free since you paid for the line in the first place

What ROM are you using?
I used CM7.
To enable/disable 3G, go to settings. Select 'Wireless & Networks'. Select 'Mobile settings'. Scroll down. See if 'Use only 2G networks' is ticked. Untick it if you want 3G.
Hi there, the problem is, I don't even have the setting "Use only 2g networks". I am using Android version 1.6 (the default), maybe that's why?

That's probably the reason for not having that setting. But I think you can change it. Do you have a widget called something like 'Power Control'. Try to add it. While adding it (it should have the options for adding each button), look for 2G/3G. Tick it then ok. It should be added to the home screen. Pressing it should make it switch between 2G and 3G. This feature maybe is not available to 1.6 but you can try to find this though.

3g in USA (T-mobile)
Thanks jhonny, I'm trying to download that widget now. I'm running 2.1, but probably going to go to 2.3.7 if my phone/ computer will cooperate with me. But could the reason be that you're from New Zealand (icon of flag, Auckland) so you do get 3g from your carrier and I'm in the USA so I don't get any from T-mobile due to the difference in frequency? Hmmm. I would like someone who lives in the USA who uses T-mobile to tell me that 3g will work. I've been messing with it for quite a while now... ._.
Thanks

[Q] My N4 broken already?

Hi everyone, first of all, i apologise for my bad english.
Yesterday i finnally got my N4. It is the first time I have an android device, plus i am having issues with it, it is all more difficult. Here is the thing:
When you start your device at first, you are supposed to follow some first steps, i skipped the part of the sim (I still need to cut it), i entered my wifi, and when it Comes to enter your Google account, it gives me an error that pretty scares me: it says something like "a reliable connection to the server cannot be established, it is possible that this is about a temporal error or that the android device isnt prepared to data services, If the problem persists, call the customer service"
After that, my device doesnt sync for gmail, chrome, everything else, i cannot acces play store due to an error it gives me, i also cannot surf the net, use any application that requires internet (all of them :S?)
Ive tried everything I think its in my hand before posting. Rebooting, logging out reboot and logging in again, erasing all (the big default reset), etc, and it doesnt get solved ;(
I would appreciate a lot if you could point me in the right direction, but i think the device is broken somehow, and i"ll have to send it to be repaired :S
Thank you in advance.
are you sure it is connected to your wifi? check in the settings/about phone/status to see if you have an IP address

I think it is a problem with your router or ip setup.
Try this:
Set wireless connection ip-s with static and same as you get automatically from router. And DNS server put 8.8.8.8

I have already tried that too, the only part I skippped is the microsim one, i only have a sim on my old phone, i dont dare to cut it if then it doesnt work on is device and ill have to wait until i receive the microsim to sim adaptor.
As it follows, i enter my wifi data, that doesnt give me any error, and after that, the gmail account (which is the same I used to buy the device). After 2min or so, it gives me the error comented on #1 :s
I dunno if it does matter, but i mean factory restore as the option inside settings > security copy > restore factory data
Thank you.

Thank you for that explanation, but i am afraid it doesnt solve the problem. By using the 8.8.8.8 (static connection) dns, chrome gives me the error that there is no connection to wifi, if i use the same dns i have on my ipad, it says, connection acceptable, but it takes years to load a page (in case it does)
Thank you all for your effort, i rly appreciate that.
Can you :
- configure the same network configuration that you have on your tablet, on your phone (IP,netmask,DNS, network, gateway)
- disable networking on your tablet
- try again.
If it fails, you should think about sending it back.

You can also flash back the factory images but since you are still under warranty and don't really used to this kind of technical stuff, i won't advise you to do so.
Just keep in mind that sadly, the device is very popular and that Google will have new phones available only in about 3 weeks.
Could it possibly be locked to a certain network ?

Someone from another forum of my country told me he had the same problem due to the internet provider company, he has told me to update my modem/router, at least, that is what fixed his problem,

Unlimited tethering on MetroPCS (T-Mobile mvno)?

Any idea on how to get this working? I've edited build.prop and added dun to apn... But my hotspot still shows data being taken from my hotspot allotment instead of just from my regular data allotment. I have unlimited data and only 8gb hotspot
On dev preview 4 btw
I am interested in this. Anyone have any ideas??

Also did the settings db edit with adb with no success
Only thing that has worked for me on T-Mobile (which metro pcs probably uses the same detection methods) is to do the settings db edit, add "dun" to the APN type, change the APN protocol to ipv4 instead of ipv6 and to also use a VPN to route all traffic through. If one of these steps are missed then tethering usage will show up.

The APN Protocol doesn't have anything to do with your wifi hotspot. Ipv4 is 32 bit IP addresses and Ipv6 is 128 bit IP addresses. Depending on where in the country you are one may work better for you as far as cell phone and data reception goes. I tend to get stronger signal with IPV4.
Bow when it comes to tethering........
Use a root browser to explore and navigate to
Data/system/dropbox and delete everything inside. Then change the permissions of that folder to "r - -
- - -
- - -"
Do the same for data/system/netstats
And data/system/procstats
See the pics I attached. They'll explain everything.
I've been doing this on all my devices that run lollipop and up with no issue. And I have a Nexus 7 (2013) built into the dash of my GMC Sierra that I use to stream YouTube or Pandora or surf the web. It pulls from my hotspot everyday on the way to and from work. About an hour each way. As well as anytime I'm in the truck. And I pull 125 to 150 gigs a month. About half through my hotspot. And I'm on an unlimited 4g LTE data plan. So I should normally have to pay for the hotspot.

I do realize that but if the VPN provider does not support ipv6, the this method will not work, but I'll assume you already knew that....

Great tip, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately it does not seem to work on my LG G5 on Metro Any idea if it only works for stock Android? My ROM is the T-Mobile ROM, so there could be something else at play.

I'm on pure nexus ROM. Native tethering is included. It's working fine.

What APN settings for AT&T?

Hi folks,
I will set up my 6t on Tuesday, switching from my 3t. Does the 6t (direct from OP, NOT the T-mo) have a built in APN set up for ATT? Or do I need to configure one? And if so, what is the current optimal setting list to use?
Thanks!

The device should pick up the APN once you insert your SIM. I didn't have to manually enter anything when I set mine up.
I've setup my new 60. It's going great! The SIM card did result in not one but two AT&t APNs and it automatically chose one called something like next-gen smartphone. The other one AT&t phone is the setting that I used to use on older devices. for now I'm leaving it on the next-gen one because everything seems to be working including visual voicemail with speech to text. The only thing I haven't noticed is VOLTE coming on but I don't really care that much about it.
Picture attached.

Could you go into the APN setting, and see if there is anything different, than the standard at&t settings
see if any of the following are different
MMSC
MMSC Proxy
MMS Port
MCC
MNC
APN Type
APN Protocol
TIA
Just curious
The Nextgenphone APN supports faster LTE speeds as well as VoLTE. I had issues when I first got my 6T and lost LTE service for a couple of days when I was using the Nextgenphone APN. When I switched to AT&T Phone APN, I was able to get data but it was only 3G speeds.
To enable VoLTE, you need to follow the instructions in this post, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78073766&postcount=6. After you tick the VoLTE switch, in OnePlusLogKit, go into the SIM settings and you should now have the option to enable VoLTE. Turn that on and if your line is provisioned properly, you should have VoLTE. You may need to reboot.
Were you able to activate AT&T Visual Voicemail app?

I'm attaching screen shots of the Next Generation APN settings here. The only difference I see is that the APN Type / Protocol support both IPv4/IPv6 (ATT Phone supports just IPv4).

I haven't yet gone through the VOLTE process described above. PResumably I will one day but I rarely use the phone for talking and when I do the standard stuff works fine.
No problems activating ATT Visual Voicemail. After activating it, I called from another phone, left a message, and almost instantly got a notification, and when I went to the app, my transcribed text was waiting as well as the listening controls. Note, I did have to go into settings after activation and turn on the transcribe function, which is off by default.

Not sure actually. It came either from my Google backup or via OnePlus switch. But it's in the play store. I'm using a version dated October 2018.

Except for mine saying tfdata (Straight talk, tracfone card, at&t towers), the settings are the same.
the links for mms are different, but everything else is the same.
Thanks!
