Which Kernel is the best for battery life/standby drain? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Or is it best to just stick with stock kernel?

I'm on elemental kernel right now and honestly I feel I had better standby and all around better battery on stock.

You flash to stock boot image and that flashes the stock kernel.

Will it wipe the phone and where can I find it? Also can I flash it through twrp or Exkernal?

You can flash through exkm in tools. A 9.0.7 rooted stock boot.img is in the forum somewhere. It will not wipe anything

I tried it and had very high standby drain with it. What is the point of a Kernel if not for better battery life? LOL

Battery life is subjective to personal usage if someone gets 10hrs sot + 1 day of standby doesn't mean you will get it, Best advice is to try different stuff and see which suits your needs.

But what do you mean by which one suits your needs? If a kernel has a good battery drain, everyone will appreciate it. Also are custom ROMS worth it these days?

I meant personal needs not every kernel is built with battery in mind some are performance others are just generic code compile with latest GCC and disable warnings... Not worth wasting time with but try them for yourself and see which you like best. Yes roms are worth it if the dev is optimizing for our SoC and not just cherry picking random sh!t.

Nice! Can't wait.. every Dev buddy I know has this phone now, so Its about to go off
And to the one dude, yes try a few, and for at least a couple days each to get a good feel.

Battery life is pretty subjective to personal use as previously mentioned, but i think there is another option in town. The Oneplus 6t MC Edition charger is the solution. I needed proof and YouTube got me the evidence. Check out the video by Dave Lee on Youtube. He does a test on it.

I second Smurf Kernel.
On average I get about 10 hours screen time over 2 or 3 days before I need to charge my phone again.

I'm looking for battery life/performance a good balance between the 2. I like Franco.Kernel but is there a better one that suits those needs? I have a lot of experience but I just don't want to go on a flashing spree and risk breaking something.

All devices react differently with different kernels and roms. That's why there are people that say this kernel is better than the other. Franco is a good starting point. if it's not good, try another kernel. That's the only way YOU will know.

as far as i know, battery life isnt bad on any of the kernels, it would mostly depend on your setup and your usage. if you go into any of the kernel threads, there will be someone that claims that it gives the best battery life. now performance of these kernels do vary, this is where they differ from each other. itll also depend on what your personal idea of performance is. try a different kernel every few days,, it only takes a few minutes to flash, youll find a favorite. just remember, battery life will be more accurate on the 2nd or 3rd battery cycle.

The stock CM kernel works fine for me
I've tried a number of kernels whenever I see a new one released. My personal favorites for performance/battery combo are: Franco, Faux123, Trinity, AK. They each perform mildly different however, and like stated before the best way to find out what's best for you is to try them. Good luck!

Which custom ROM to pick?

Would be lovely if we could get a brief introduction of the different custom ROM's out there for S6 Edge Plus.
I can update this post with what I/we learn.
Okay, I can begin with asking; which ROM has most features, customizations and 'neatyness'?
I'm currently running BoBCaTRoM.

As we have not much options in present days, you have a chance to try them all. In my opinion; Audax is the best.. Seems not has many features? You can do all as you wish. Thanks.
I'm currently using the CRISSCROSS ROM v1.6. It's extremely good and you can add and remove alot of stuffs on the ROM (under AROMA Installer) before you are installing the ROM. So there are alot of options to choose from.

which rom has the best battery life?

I was wondering which rom has the best battery life. can anyone suggest to me a rom that has a good battery life? I'm still new to this so yeah I appreciate the help thanks!
CM13 is the best without tinkering with settings BUT it's up to you what you choose
Hydrogen OS, has the best battery performance that I seen until now. Great control over apps consumption and customisable.
I tired both cm13 and hydrogen apart from the stock oxygen os but I would suggest you to try Exodus 6.0 and I assure you'll never look back. have a good day.
Oxygen has best battery life

Kingmercian (H2OS) gets me battery life that rivals what I had with SkyDragon (OOS) with the Boeffla Kernel. I haven't seen any need to try flashing any CM13 ROMs while I'm using Kingmercian as my daily driver.

Battery life depends on uses, it always different for different people. One rom can give 6hrs sot to someone and same rom can give other only 4 hrs.
So try various ROMs and tweaks for yourself and decide.
Btw i am on stock oos and i am quite happy with battery as i m getting approx. 6.5 hrs sot.
I'm using this one NXROM at the moment and I'm loving it. Smooth and great battery, but like @sushant6786 said. It all depends on apps you use, how you use your phone. What's great for me might be woirthless for you.
The best you can do is try different roms and feel for yourself. Try some that people recommend to you and make up your own mind
Good luck in your search for a rom that suits your need

NXROM is based on cm13 .. I have tested it and the battery is good but i had commom problems like in cm builds like wifi problems.
I have tested almost all the roms for our 1+2 and i can say that the best in battery with the same use are: h2os from kingmercians + skydragon v3.3 oxygen based (with boeffla kernel is better) and exodus rom. But where i got more sot was in h2os (5h30) with wifi always on and no powernap, amplify or grenify.

I can vouch for Kingmercian's H2OS as well, it's the definitely the clear winner (based on my daily usage). I ran Seraph's CM13 for a while but dropped it due to its heavy drain. As for LP-based ROMs, both OxySlim and Skydragon performed very well for me, at least when compared to stock.

which nougat rom has good battery backup??

????
All of them.
none of them
There is not so much differences between N Roms.
It s mainnly :
the apps you use (Facebook, whstsapps ....)
The brightness
LTE use far more battery than wifi
And you can change governor with script like glassfish, you will notice it will impact the heat of the cpu and then the battery drain

It depends on the usage, normally I'll get 6 or 7 hours of SOT, if I use it through the day, going to work, etc, but if I'm in my house all day, I'll get 1hr10min of SOT per 10%, adding Optimus kernel

improve battery life and memory management

So since there are a lot of mods available to improve battery life and memory management as well i thought it would be a good idea to have a place to talk about what fellow users are using on their daily driver to improve the most important things on pixel lol
Magisk modules scripts kernels build prop edits and you get the idea
So lets begin
for me, any custom ROM's battery life is better than stock ROM, the usual SOT is 7.5-8 hrs on average. If yours is much worse, the battery seems to be replaced.
As for the management issue, you can flash the custom kernel and expand the volume of ZRAM which is a conception of virtual.
