So with the official 4.5.91 finally being populated to everyone through regular channels (not our awesome quicker than the maker methods ). We gain the right to demand from motorola to release the source, as according to GPL, if someone ask for the source they must release it.

Q: Why should I care if moto releases the source or not?
A: Do you want AOSP rom, and CM7, maybe MIUI. all of this are dependent on the source. otherwise is super mega complicated to create them. And available source guarantees more devs.
So what is the plan?
Simple, the plan is to demand the source, a lot, A LOT! So they dont pull the same stunt they did with 4.1.83 update. The source for that became available last week!
So we are going to do this 2 ways! The official way, and the troll way.
The official method to request source is by writing a letter to motorola mobile to the following address.

Me to haha i dont even have the atrix but saw this as soon as i opened the xda app haha but HTC is pulling the same **** with the evo. We got this damn ota like a month and a half ago and we still dont have the ****ing source

well considering i took the initiative to spread the word of finding the unlock, and then my handle got submited to a few international gadget sites as responsible for finding the unlock from the test servers. maybe writing to moto myself could be a bad idea. i def dont want to face any legal problems. but i will encourage anyone who wants to write them to do so, ill even write the letter and paste it for you guys, a stamp is only 45 cents!

is it possible to build AOSP on a beta source? ... cuz befor 2 days they release 2.3 to beta testers

What does?

Elephone supports software theft

This is meant as warning for every developer who considers to work with Elephone:
One of their moderators (kaokao) on the official Elephone forum distributes cracked apps!
I did bring this forward to Supermoderators Crazy and Ethan -> nothing happened
I did write an open letter to Elephone as a thread ( bbs.elephone.hk /thread-5956-1-1.html ):
To whom it may concern,
It is interesting how Elephone hides behind "copyright" protection and does not release the open source kernel source codes of all Android based phones, and then has an employee (kaokao) who does not give a damn about copyright.
Elephone:
Please can you explain this two faced behaviour.
Kaokao is a Moderator on this forum, which is the official Elephone forum.
Hence Kaokao is an employee of Elephone even if he does not get any money of Elephone.
He represents this company.
By listing constantly crack apks in the app forum, at least he commits to a crime.
He and Elephone -with this being an official Elephone channel- steal from programmers and other companies!

IMHO this is not acceptable!
On one hand Elephone does declare via their moderators, the kernel they use contains closed source software of MediaTek and so they cannot make it public. By the way a kernel is always open source GNU GLP2! On the other hand two Elephone staff members promote software theft , paid or not they are moderators on the official Elephone forum so they are Elephone staff!!!
I tried to explain to them numerous times that the kernel source code is under GNU GPL2 and has to be published. If they did the error to compile closed source drivers as device drivers into the kernel, that this can be undone by taking them out of the kernel and to call them as driver modules. Some of my post where just deleted as they never existed.
I just write this down here for everyone to have a look and to judge themselves.

I've read the whole thread on their forums where you were arguing regarding the source code unavailability of the kernel. This is really a pity from Elephone. I think the FSF should really take charge on such GPL violators like MediaTek,and their subcontractors like Ulefone, Elephone, etc. Wiko, a French company, using MediaTek based devices is releasing the kernel sources of their devices.

Honor 6 Lollipop Source code

Hi,
Please visit the following link and sign the petition for Honor 6 Lollipop kernel source code. We need to get as many people to sign this petition as possible. So please share it with your friends and other Honor smartphone users. If Huawei releases the sources we'll be able to request developers to make CM12.1 for Honor 6. And based on that other custom ROMS will be possible. Currently we are running EMUI3.0 or 3.1 which doesn't have a hint of beautiful material design.
I believe it is possible for us to make Huawei release the sources because they had earlier released Kitkat sources.

You ha e to understand that not only are these devices only available in a few places of the world, but also this company is based out of china which means the petition won't mean a thing. They are not forced to uphold copyrights or the GPL.

Agreed. I would not bother to spend a second on it.

In my opinion you are wasting your time... huawei does not release the source for all the stuff that is required to cook a custom rom for the kirin platform. They only release part of the kernel souce code but not all the other stuff...

-IMPORTANT UPDATE!- Petition to LEECO for source code release, now in change!

If developers have source code, they will make 100% functional roms. I try sending multiple times emails to LeEco asking for this, but the server always give me spam reply. Because of that I've created a thread in LeEco forum.
Please help doing a coment and voting in the poll.

Yup, in the official forum, but who knows if is true or a fake...?

I read that they are selling these phones at less than cost as a loss leader to sell people their content services. If so, I very much doubt they are interested in supporting the dev community as that makes it easier for people to get rid of their apps and services from the devices.

We need to achieve that fast!!

I have not (yet) bought the phone b/c there will be no proper development in the absence of a source code release. I will probably go for the Axon 7 although I would like to have a bigger screen. (I will also not buy the Le Pro 3 although it is an interesting phone. Developer-unfriendly phone companies like LeEco are an absolute no-go for me. So sad ... )

Do you have new news about letv's codes? Why didn't share with us about it?

Maybe the US launch change something I really like the phone my fingerprint has no issue except some times unresponsive but I only had it for a month LOL so fingers crossed
