When I have set "Tap The Screen To Show" under Ambient Display, the app, which shortcut is at the same position on the display as the fingerprint scanner, always gets started as I unlock with my finger. So I tap once on the display to wake the ambient display and press the fingerprint sensor. The phone unlocks and that specific app gets started.
This doesn't happen when I wake the phone with the power button and press the fingerprint scanner.
Is this normal behaviour or a bug? Or am I the only one with this issue?

Would appreciate some thoughts on this:
I like using an app to lock my phone, and I have this one installed:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iglint.android.screenlock
It locks the screen, but I notice that the Nexus 6p will not allow me to wake the phone via the fingerprint sensor.
If I use the app to lock the screen, and then use the fingerprint sensor, the phone prompts me to enter my pin.
If I use the power button to lock the screen, the fingerprint sensor works as intended.
Thoughts?
My thoughts would be that this app has not been updated to include fingerprint sensors to be able to unlock.
Once it does that, I assume it would work.
Either that or only an official method of locking the screen can allow your fingerprint to unlock.

Screen Off and Lock Apps break Nexus Imprint

i would love to be able to turn the screen off and lock with the fingerprint scanner. hence - we would never have to touch the power button.
I'm looking at the Axon 7 as a replacement for my ZMAX 2 but I HATE the power button (way too flimsy and easy to press) and lockscreen (laggy and unlocks by accident). Are the ones on the Axon better?
I would look up the Axon 7 notification bell before you dive in any further but hopefully they will add an option to disable that at some point. Power button is fine IMO. It's below the volume keys so it's different from other phones I've had but its pretty solid feeling. I dont see any lag with the lockscreen but the double tap to wake sucks, if you like using that. As for the unlocking by accident, I would say the sensors don't always behave like you think you will, sort of weird. But overall it doesn't cause too many problems.
I don't even use the power button most of the time. Simply putting my finger on the fingerprint sensor as soon as I pick it up makes it power up the screen and unlock to the desktop immediately. Also I put "Screen Off" app on one of my Pie Control triggers so I can just slide in from the bezel with my thumb and lift from that quadrant to turn it off.

Youre not on 2017G right? Pie controls don't work on the US models (2017U), just like the on screen buttons.
I use a Nova Launcher gesture to turn the screen off. Double tap to turn off. Phone already has double tap to wake, but as mentioned earlier, most use the fingerprint sensor to unlock. Quick and effective.
Nova launcher gestures ftw. I've set double tap screen to sleep and the capacitive home key set up to turn off screen. Barely use the power key although it's pretty good and sturdy.
Thanks guys-I'm between this and the OnePlus 3 (had the OnePlus One and loved it)!
Hello folks,
I got my OP5 today, damn is this a sexy phone!
I've set up everything like I want it but there is something annoying I faced..
Every time I lock the screen (aka, turn screen OFF, push power button or via button gesture) the phone vibrates 4 times in a very short pattern.
What is this? Where can I disable it? I can handle a slight vibrate when unlocking, but I don't unterstand it when I lock the phone.
Thanks for your help!
Just googled and found this it's so annoying! It doesn't do it on silent mode only ring and do not disturb.
Oneplus please fix it, and while you are at it turn allow us to turn off the double tap to wake and fingerprint sensor vibration if we so wish. Sick of my phone vibrating when its in my hand because my palm touches the fingerprint sensor.
Are you running Light Flow? If so this is the source of your problems.
I found out the other day that this phone has lift to wake. My question is: How does it work exactly? Assuming no lockscreen security, does it work like the iPhone and OnePlus 5? i.e. Does it automatically turn on when you lift it toward you so you can interact with the screen, or does it just flash notifications? Can you just lift it up, then swipe to unlock? I'm asking because the phone has no double-tap-to-wake, which is a must-have feature for me, but this is a good compromise.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: To clarify, I'm asking if I can lift the phone and start using it WITHOUT hitting the power button.
Just like you described, lift to wake and notification wake, then you can intertact with it.
Lift it up and it wakes.
It does a black and white version of your lockscreen.
If you tap it hard enough, you can wake it btw without lifting it up.
I believe it uses either the gyroscope or acceleration sensor, or both. If you twist your phone or move it quickly, the dim display will turn on. Just like others have pointed out.
Also you can have it set up to be unlocked and ready when lifting up by setting up smart Lock. If your home your device can stay unlocked and when you lift it up it will be ready to go.
Do we know if we can enable a tap to wake or wave to wake?
Is this something we would need root for?
this function not smooth as iPhone.
A couple of times since I've had the 6T, when I tapped the screen to bring up the ambient display or lock screen the fingerprint sensor wouldn't be active. The fingerprint icon would be white and putting a finger on it did nothing. The first time it happened, I was using the single tap to ambient display. When the fingerprint sensor didn't work, I hit the power button to bring up the lock screen and the sensor activated and I was able to unlock using a fingerprint.
I've switched to using double tap to lock screen with both face & fingerprint unlock. Tonight when I tapped the screen the lock screen came up but again the fingerprint icon was white, not active, and face unlock didn't even work. I had to swipe up to unlock with my PIN. After doing so, both fingerprint & face unlock have worked as normal.
Any ideas on why this could be happening? Just a random software glitch? Or does device security require unlocking with a PIN/Password/Pattern after so many fingerprint/face unlocks or after a given amount of time?
yes, it happened to me as well.
but i dont think this is a bug/glitch. This happened to me on other android phones as well.
i think this is a security thing where your fingerprint sensor/ face id is disabled once in a while and you can only sign in with your pin/password.
