930V stuck in bootloop after OTA - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Hello All, So I have a friend's 930V here. She let the phone "try" install the latest verizon OTA a few days ago, best I can tell 8CRK1 (I know). It did not complete. I have been attempting to fix it for a few days now. I have only been able to get the phone to actually boot into recovery twice. All other attempts say either "erasing, then installing update" or just "installing update", neither of which ever complete. The phone then reboots, says "recovery booting" and does it again. But I can not get it to boot into recovery to wipe the cache.
I have flashed it several times using odin (v3.13.1 and v3.13.1_3B) with firmware (8CRK1, 8CRJ3 and Umodel 8CRJ2). They all complete and pass in odin, yet it will not boot.
Some it will not even turn on, so let it sit for a while, when I come back it will turn on
- Will ticking erase NAND and/or REPARTITION help?
- Should I force the PIT file (HEROQLTE_USA_VZW)?
I have even gone to trying the Verizon/Samsung software upgrade utility, which fails half way through and says phone disconnected (on the phone it says unsupported dev_type)
-I'm about to rip my hair out- Any advice would be awesome!
thanks

the screen grab I've attached are from the 1 of the 2 times it actually got it into recovery

5.0 bricked my phone

Saturday evening I got a notification saying 5.0 lollipop was available for my s5 so I eagerly downloaded the update. During the update my phone froze and crashed (had this happen twice earlier in the day) and it rebooted to the update screen. Once the update finished installing the phone rebooted like normal and sat at the verizon screen for about 2 minutes before crashing again. This caused the phone to enter a boot loop that ended up making an open padlock symbol appear on the start screen. After this appeared it took me to a screen that said "System software not authorized by Verizon has been found on your phone". After getting this error I tried using Odin and Kies to reinstall 4.4 on my device. The install was successful but after the phone booted it was freeze and crash again leading to another boot loop and a "recovery booting" message in the top left screen. It now either boots back to the System software screen or loops until it hits the recovery menu. Is there any way to fix this or did Verizon brick my phone?

Still boots with the custom rom padlock and freezes on the verizon screen
Try pulling the battery. I've read where that's helped some people get it to boot.

Ok, so I am safe now. I was able to flash a stock NK2 Kernal.
Pull the battery on the phone. Hold down Vol. Down, Home, and Power and go to download mode. Plug in the phone, and open Odin. Flash the kernal.
Reboot and you should be ok. This just worked for me.

If Kies doesn't work, try Verizon Update Tool. It also has a repair tab and may help you get back to stock.

Instead of flashing only the kernel, flash a stock, unrooted retail version of KK 4.4.4.

This worked for me as well, thanks! For anyone that wants to know, I used "NK2_Stock_Restore.tar.md5" specifically. You can get it from this thread labeled as "NK2 Stock Restore".

Help: Recent Update Broke My Phone

Dear XDA,
It's been a while, I used to have all sorts of fun with rooting and experimenting with new ROMs. Shamefully, I haven't done it in years.
I come now with a problem. My phone seems to have failed the most recent update pushed and started freezing, cycling, all sorts of nasties. Now, however, it automatically boots into Recovery and cannot boot out of it. If I do select a reboot it only accomplishes giving me the one line of "verifying dmverity hash tree" and then after about a minute the phone just shuts off. (update, I watched more closely this time and it verified the above and when it tried to reboot it shut off)
At this rate, there is little I can do. A look at the current software version shows that I am one update behind (I think they pushed a new one today/yesterday). Would applying that update from the SD work? I am on verizon with update
MMB29M.N910VVRS2CQC1
and the newest is
"" D1
Would downloading MMB29M.N910VVRS2CQD1 to my SD card allow me to apply the update? They don't appear to put any of the updates on an online repo anywhere that I can see. I would appreciate your advisement, I need to get back into the phone to move an app over with its current data at the very least.
Regards
Edit1: When I take the battery out for a bit and try to boot into safe mode by holding the volume down button, it still boots into recovery but also then goes to the android "Installing system update" for about a minute before going to the "No Command" screen and eventually the recovery mode.

Can't enter in download mode or recovery

Hi! Well, This is quite different from other cases. A time ago, I decided to reflash with Odin because reboots and crashes. After restart, and after the "installing updates" screen and reboots the phone dies , keeps rebooting or just powers off... When I try to enter in recovery mode the screen gets like the picture... Then the phone gets totally black, not even charging signs, screen or led... and... have to wait a day or two for a completely battery drain, charge it and start all over again... Sometimes it works and last for a few days, sometimes it doesn't... So I'm wondering if maybe is something wrong with the mainboard...
Thanks in advance!
Maybe youve flashed the wrong files in the first attempt, try using switch update to latest update via it and the Odin with correct files.
Does Odin detect your phone e in this state
Mnop... Im pretty sure the files are correct... The phone is an SM-G935FD unlocked and I use ARO version (I'm from Argentina) ...what do you mean to try with Switch and Odin? And the phone gets totally dead until the battery is completely drain , then it charges normally and can enter download mode again...
The phone is (i think) from UK, and imei number is /07 (both of them)
I was thinking next time not choose auto reboot and nand erase all, and try to go directly into recovery to power off and then restart again into recovery and make a reset... but I'm not sure... :-S
Well, I've tried again and now it get stuck on the blue screen with "Erasing" word ... wait a few minutes and force restart and it goes to the "no command" screen... Any ideas...? Should try to re-partition and nand erase all?

Update: The phone freezed some times, showing lines and glitches and the reboots itself...still working... but seems that I'll to replace the mainboard at the end...

Bricked S8s after software update.

Hi. Browsed for ages and always come here for answers.
Here's my problem.
2x S8s. SM-950f.
Updated to most recent software through software update. Both phones were glitchy and crashing and just generally irritating after.
Factory data reset etc. This did not resolve the problems, also led to one of them having issues with FRP (annoying)
Used Odin to try and flash the latest firmware (from sammobile, UK BTU) after flashing both, they reset and powered on. Got stuck at the S8 screen.
Restarted then both were at the "an error occurred during update" screen.
Managed to get back to download screen. Re checked the software and model numbers, even that the bootloader was the correct version etc. All was fine.
Connected to Odin, shows that it is connected, but nothing happens when clicking start.
Now after attempting that, both phones will not power on.
(One will when placed on the wireless charger, but just sticks at S8 screen) and download mode or reset screen can not be accessed. So, not exactly happy. And totally out of ideas
Any suggestions, beyond taking it to a shop to see if anyone can help.
yes .....dont tuch the phones for 24 hours let the battery die ...it will...connect to pc and then try download mode....u may need to press combination for like 1 minute to get to download mode....flash twrp reboot directly into it when odin says successfully .....wipe system data ....dont turn on phone download any custom rom flash and enjoy.....it will trip knox but worth than getting a new board....
Okay, will give that a try.
TWRP?
TWRP install
https://dl.twrp.me/dreamlte/twrp-3.2.3-0-dreamlte.img.tar.html: Download link for twrp SM-G950F (dreamlte)
Just said, wait until your device powers off due battery insufficience. Plug cable and hold at the same moment vol(down)+bixby+power. Then press vol(up) at the warning screen to proceed to odin mode. Let it charging a while like 1 h. Then unplug it and plug it to your pc. In Odin select ap the previous downloaded file. Take your mobile in your hand. With one hand, prepare your fingers to vol(up)+bixby and with the other hand start the flashibg process. Be careful, and take your hand directly from the mouse if you clicked start in odin, and position your one finger to power button, but dont click. If odin start pass, press immidiately the buttons (vol(up)+bixby+power) and let it to start into recovery. If you arrived to recovery, reply to us if not search for help!!!
Good luck

Still trying to get them on. Powered on to download mode but only for a couple of seconds and switched off again.
Can't get them to power on. Buggered

Am I being dumb.
No files appear that Odin will recognise.
Also just shows as "recovery" no .tar or anything
Ignore above. Corrupted download.
Sorted.

Not sure what stage your at and maybe some more useless ideas
1. Trying to flash twrp is kinda of useless if you can't get into your system need oem unlock for that.
2. Have you tried taking out Sim card and SD card and reboot.
3. If you can at least boot try smart switch as it has a emergency recovery option.
4. Trying rebooting in safe mode.
All been attempted

Turned this phone into a brick and I need to fix it!

Hi, so, I got this phone from a friend, and he told me that the phone was working prorperly, but after someone factory resetted it, he wasn't able to set it up. Constant force close pop-ups where showing up while setting it up, and you weren't able to accept terms and conditions (button grayed out). Also, one thing I noticed. The phone got into "Factory Mode". Idk what that is, but it wouldn't let me to enable wifi or bluetooth. That little Factory mode thingy got me really confused. Also, I wanted to boot into recovery mode, and I wasn't able to do so. After turning the phone off, and doing the key combo to boot into recovery, the phone rebooted itself (very showrtly after doing the startup vibration) and after that, it seemd to get into recovery, but it stayed at the android logo with an exclamation sign and after 3 seconds it rebooted itself to system.
After that I said, "well, last thing to try is flashing stock rom again". And I did so. Using the Frija software to download the latest version of android for this phone (and using the corect CSC for this phone (CTI)). I used odin 3.12.7 (wich I knew it works because of previously using it with other phones) to flash the stock rom again. I made sure that only Auto-reboot and F.reset time were checked, and started flashing. After it finished, it got to the samsung logo, but got stuck there. Nothing happened (I left the phone there for like 30 min). I decided to hard-reboot the phone and try to factory-reset it, but after shutting it down, it started to be really hard to make the phone turn on. I had to unplug the battery and wait like 10 mins to try again, and I still wasnt able to boot into recovery mode. It just got stuck at the "Galaxy Core 2" logo.
After that first boot, the phone never got passed the "Galaxy Core 2" logo. Just stuck there. After that, things just begun to get worse. It was also hard to get the phone to get into download mode, most of the time it just stayed at a blackscreen (im not shure if the phone ever turned on, but it never vibrated) and did nothing. I decided to try other versions of odin. Tried with 3.09 and 3.04. Nothing, and after every flash, it got harder and harder to make the phone boot.
At this point, I can hardly get the phone into download mode, and if I do so, sometimes I get the odin complete write operation failed error, wich the only way that I've found to solve it is to reboot again the phone into download mode.
I know that the battery is working, I have another core 2 (same exact model) and battery is ok. At this moment I don't know what else to do. Please, help me to get this brick of a phone back to working conditions, I dont want my friend to buy a new phone just to use it to recive calls and charge it.
Some extra notes:
As i've read, sometimes this can be caused by the replacement of the digitizer/screen. This phone seems to have one or both of them replaced, since I can see glue residues on the corners of the glass, where it touches with the plastic frame.
If there is anything hardware related thing to try, I can try to open the phone. I have some experience doing so.
EDIT: As I continued reading through this forum, I found out that some people had luck with Odin3_v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD, so I decided to try it out and see. Still, nothing changed. As today, I can only use this phone to charge the battery (it dosent actually show the percentage, only the battery icon with a loading icon inside) and boot into download mode
Although, I have to say that after flashing the stock rom with that version of odin made the phone not that hard to start in download mode. I think that it could be something that got corrupted on the eMMC module and it has to repartition it all again...? Does anyone know how to do so?
Regards
Well, tried almost everithing I know. Downloaded rom again with binary nature, tried with odin version 3.12.7, 3.13.1_3b patched and 3.13.3, but nothing. Extracted the PIT file from the CSC file, did repartition, NAND wipe, and nothing changed. I have to say that its certaily easier to get the phone in download mode, but thats almost it. One thing to note, when i select the NAND wipe, it dosent seems to do anything. I mean, in odin Log screen some things appear related to NAND wiping and such, but its really fast and there are only 2 or 3 lines dedicated to that. Is that OK?
Anyway, please, any recoomendation or thing to try would be great, since this phone is now trash, it dosent matters if it starts to get worse, or even unusable (more than it is rn).
Regards
