Not a huge thing since this phone is so fast. But on my old Nexus 6 we had a zip that would remove encryption on our devices for faster user experience. Curious if this is possible for the op6t? I still have the Nexus 6 remove encryption file, obviously I won't flash it since it's a completely different device. Mostly just curious if others may be interested in non encryption on this phone.

Decrypting your phone doesn't almost nothing now. The reason it was so popular on the Nexus 6 is because Google scrambled and implemented encryption using software rather than hardware. Now that the snapdragon soc is handling the decryption through hardware there is next to 0 performance gain.
Same as above and remember it's a good way to piss off a lot of gouvernements and authorities that would prefer to have full and free access to our data without our consent each time we cross a border
Gotcha. Thanks guys. Wasn't aware it was hardware based encryption.

Can anyone with their S7/Edge confirm whether or not the fingerprint scanner on the device works with apps that support the Marshmallow fingerprint API natively?
For example, LastPass login etc?
It's a feature I love on my Nexus 6P and don't want to lose when my phone arrives on Tuesday.
With fingerprint security rumoured to start featuring heavily in the Google ecosystem through the MM API, I think it'd be a shame if this wasn't present. Can someone put my mind at rest?

Can't say definitely for sure but, I do know that an app called 1password lets you use your fingerprint to unlock the app. And this is supposedly possible because of Android 6.0 marshmallow. And coming from IOS I definitely need this to happen sooner than later. One of the only features I'm missing. Well that and the ability to see my Bluetooth battery percentages.

It worked with my Capital One, which uses the native MM API. It also works with the app Finger Security. It's super fast.
I got my S7 Edge two days ago.
I can confirm the fingerprint scanner on the S7E works with Lastpass.

I noticed that there is now an option do you use your fingerprint in the Google Play Store too.
Ah superb, exactly what I was hoping for! Cheers guys over the moon with that.

I am no longer able to use fingerprint on PayPal. My note 5 was able to just fine. Anyone else?

I distinctly remember my S5 using a third party piece of software for this. Think it was called 'Fido' or something. Hopefully PayPal will implement MM API soon.
If you have thoughts on this topic, please share.
It seems unfortunate from my view. Was there a lesson to be learned? Will the new one carry on?

I think LineageOS will carry on the legacy. It will hault development for almost every office until LineageOS gets finished though.
Besides rebranding, It won't affect the A7 at all. The person who's been working on CM13 has nothing to do with Cyanogen.
I'm not sure if this is news or not, but my Nexus 5X is updating to Android 7.1.2 Beta as I type this. I have seen articles stating that the Nexus 6P is getting the 7.1.2 Beta, but nothing on the 5X.
I stuck with the Nexus 6 for two years and loved it! I'm actually missing it in some ways. I picked up a New Sealed Carbon 32GB Nexus 5 X off eBay for $280 shipped, I've had it for two weeks now. I wouldn't call it a big "upgrade" but I am loving the fingerprint sensor and far superior camera! I wanted something a little smaller too so it is nice to be able to (easily) operate my phone one handed again. The 5.2" display is perfect for me. I'm not too worried about the whole "bootloop plague" with the Nexus 5X because the person I bought it from on eBay just received it from Google as a replacement for his 5X which was plagued by the infamous "bootloop". I would hope that Google wouldn't be replacing effected devices with potentially effected devices.
I use to be a "flashaholic" and loved trying out new custom ROMs. I stuck with Pure Nexus in the end. Now I'm happy just running Stock Android and stick to that. I use Android Pay daily (I've been out of the modding scene for a while, not sure if they worked around the whole Unlocked Bootloader / Rooted / ROMd and Android Pay dilemma) so that is a big part of why I just stay stock. It is good to know that the 5X has great dev support though so I'll have something to fall back on when Google abandons the 5X.
I'll update soon on what I think of 7.1.2 and any actual noticeable differences if anyone is interested.

My phone says that I have 4.31GB of data used on my sdcard. There is no way I should have that much, I only have a few apps downloaded and no games or media. Does anyone else notice a big chunk of data being used for no reason? I tried the Pixel ROM (which warns that there could be a 3GB file left on the sdcard) before flashing the Beta 7.1.2, but I clean flashed the Beta via the bootloader, which should have completely wiped the internal storage. I have tried looking for a big file, but can't find one. Any ideas would be appreciated.
The system uses nearly that much.

Android System takes about 4GBs that why. Before the update if remember correctly didn't show all phone's memory (with android system). e.g. On my nexus 5x 16GB on android 7.1.1 it was showing used 3.7GBs of 10.67GBs, now it says 7.7GB of 14.68GBs.
Look at the picture that I've attached.

I meant to say that I had 4GB of Apps. I ended up clean flashing back to 7.1.1 and when I first booted the phone there was only a few hundred MB's of Apps. After I downloaded all of my must have apps, I checked again and sure enough, I have about 4GB of Apps downloaded. I think it's mostly Pocket Casts and the downloaded podcasts. I'm not used to a 16GB phone, it's been so long since I've had to keep an eye on my storage.
Thanks anyway for the reply:good:
I couldn't edit my previous post and add this attachment.
any chance getting bootloop signing up with beta? would like the 7.1.2 fingerprint swipe

Glad I got some Bullets V2 from OnePlus. My Soundpeats QY7 Bluetooth headphones are great and all, but the Bullets are just as good if not better.
Also, this bug won't affect us since it'll be fixed by the time we get Oreo, anyway.

Currently that bug is fixed in various AOSP versions (from 4.4 to latest) ONLY if your security patch level is September 5. If it is not September 5 you are vulnerable and you should be concerned about it.

Just like everyone was concerned about stagefright and Dirty COW. Yeah, they are vulnerabilities, but no real world examples of them being used maliciously.

Stagefright was a vulnerability where you had to download a specially-crafted video and play it with the default video player, so extensive user interaction was needed. Dirty COW was seen in the wild on Linux machines but again the user needed to actively run native code from a program in order to elevate and gain root.
BlueBorne is slightly different in that the user does not need to do anything else than have his Bluetooth active, something who every Android user with a smart watch or a pair of Bluetooth headphones has.
The fact that we do not know of any exploits in the wild does not mean that such exploits do not exist, there is a limit up to where you can just fool morons into installing free wallpaper apps.
Hey All
I currently have an ageing Nexus 6p and looking at getting a Pixel 2, Im considering going root free for the first time since the Galaxy Nexus. Has anyone left root and what are your experiences and is there a way to restore app data on a stock phone without root?
Thanks in advance
I was forced into going to no root on my old GS5. HATED IT. Like seriously it was dreadful. My use of root is for just a few main reasons:
1. Ad blocking with Adaway.
2. enable tethering on legacy Unlimited plan (build.prop edit)
3. App Control (no bloat, no crapola)
My Current ROOT apps are:
1. File Explorer
2. Adaway
3. greenify (magisk)
4. Magisk
5. Custom Navbar (I like my back button on the right side because I am right handed)
I stopped flashing custom roms back in the GS3 days and have just enjoyed a few system mods ever since. for the last few months of the GS5, it was completely dreadful. I personally will never own another Samsung AT&T device.
Google now does a good job of app restoration but it does not offer the data restore like TiBu does.
Used to root every phone and tablet. Was getting a little overwhelmed with so many options... I went root free with new Nexus 6p. Haven't looked back. Using Nova launcher pro though.

Have rooted every device since the beginning of time!!!
No compromise without
1.Adaway (thumbs!!)
2.Tasker (of course!)
3.Greenify
4.EX kernel app
5.lucky patcher(yeah but not for crazy stuff I've purchased these paid apps and never will do that to a developer)
6.kernel Tasker
I don't use custom ROM because stock is enough but with a powerful kernel we r free to go with no lags
Love my 6P I could say Google's new pixel 2 xl that panda coloured one was inspired from Nexus 6p design..(just look at the back sides) they look gorgeous
I need root for the tethering. I'm on cricket wireless and the tethering doesn't work without root. Or do u guy know a way to get tethering without root?
