Hi,
I have a Galaxy S4 I9500 octa core version, latest official firmware available installed (MD5) and everything was fine until a week ago. The issue is like this: only when utilizing it even for few minutes only (browsing the internet, watching Youtube, sending messages, etc.) the phone dies completely and reboots. After reboot battery shows 0% (although it was almost full) and reboots again and again until it eventually dies completely. If I wait 20-30 minutes and restart the phone, everything is fine. Or if I put the charger and charge it for few minutes it comes back to life. This is a very random behavior but it happens now every day. The phone is not hot or heavily used and it happens when either connected to wifi or 3G. Sometimes, wifi settings are lost!
Before trying to master reset the phone, is any of you having similar issues (I read that there is a similar behavior for some of the users when using the camera)? Is this related to the battery?
Thanks,
Mugur

You can see this strange battery graph
And this is even more obvious
usually when phone exceeds the limit SOC highest temperature, it turns off or reboot. but you say that it is not geeting hot.
so you should think about battery, try with another one.
Ordered new battery now. Will see tomorrow.

Hi, read my last post there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397950 (I don't want copy-paste)
I think it's faulty motherboard and that the only solution is replacement.
Did you change the battery? I am on stock ROM.

Nope, I'm gonna send it to reclamation. What about you? Did new battery solve this problem?

Mine is fatter too! Just changed it with a new one and so far everything is good
Swollen battery
I am now few hours on the new battery and everything is fine. I am wondering why my battery swollen. Is it because I am charging the phone the whole night? A guy from the store told me that I should remove the charger when is 100% charged. Is this true??? isn't there any protection for the battery? very strange anyway. Samsung, are you aware? I am attaching a photo with both batteries, you can observe the swollen battery.

I think this will happen again, so plz keep in touch, i want to know about this case. Thanks.
(By the way, i received many I9505 to be fixed, faulty PBA when phone is dying very quick, sometime from 100% to 0% for 5 sec, even with new battery)
I just got my phone a couple of days ago, and seem to have some insane battery drain. I leave it on overnight and in the morning it seems to be down to about 10%.
Is anyone else seeing this sort of issue?
Here are some screenshots:
While the battery is OK but not stellar, I notice you have Wi-Fi on? Turning that off overnight helps immensely.

I had a UK axon 7 A2017G that would only last 4 hours from full charge with everything switched off except mobile. In the end I had to return it to the supplier. Sadly they don't have any replacement phones. I received it on 29th July.

I have a Galaxy S4 running 6.0.1 from JDCTeam that gives me way better battery life with WiFi turned on all night, and runs way more apps than this phone (plus, the battery is just 1850mah). I suspect that there might be a lot more going on under the covers here with respect to hidden services. I am not happy with the fact that the battery usage stats are hidden.
Should I root and try to use betterbatterystats to figure out the real problem? or maybe just assume its defective and ask for a replacement?
I think you need to turn this off too. Otherwise, it will keep searching for wifi even you turn the wifi off.
I'm having no battery drain issues. I have the Grey one.
I have turned off mipop and voice print. Dunno if that could be the culprit.
Turning off Smart Power Save increased my battery life
I have the same issue... 10 to 15 % drain over night other than that the phone it's amazing... When I got the phone before I even turn it on I got in recovery an did like 3 times a factory reset ... I'm gonna keep the phone for 2 more weeks if the drain continue I'm sending it back to newegg ?
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using XDA-Developers mobile app
No bad drain here, I only dropped 2% overnight (11pm -7am)....Wifi was on and I received several emails and a few text that were waiting when I woke up.
yeah the battery was massively overrated pre-purchase
Thanks dougm0 and Barsky ... I turned off Smart Power Save, MiPop and Voice Print. I also made sure that the location section was only using GPS (not wifi+bluetooth), and it all made a difference. I still feel like I can squeeze out a lot more performance here. My deep sleep numbers in better battery stats has improved, but it's still not where I want it to be. As I make more tweaks and get better battery life, I will post screenshots and settings tomorrow (maybe it might help someone else).

Something I always notice that you might also want to take into account. When you get a new phone you are not using it as you will regularly be using it after the new period wears off. You are probably testing all the different aspect of the phone and just plain messing around in ways you do more of when the device is new. I always get horrible battery time in a new phone
No issue with battery drain - left my phone at 100% overnight with WIFI ON, in morning it was at 97%. I think I will take it as 3% drain over 8 hours.
You most likely have an app that's causing wake lock issues. It's a common problem on any phone.
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using XDA-Developers mobile app
My battery is amazing on this device.
I Don't mean to rub it in anyone's face that have these issues. Must be an app that's causing it.
Coming from Note 4 and Moto X Pure. This is twice better. I don't read screen on time on this device because it doesn't show it. I don't even need those stats. After 16 hours of the charger with same use I get home with 40%+.
My Note and X Pure were dead by then or have been connected to a charger by that time.
Hope y'all figure it out.
Battery life on my phone is not that great either. It's not horrible but I expected better. I think it drains 3% in 4 hours with wifi and sync on. I did turn off all the scanning and battery saving feature.
I recently noticed the battery on my phone was just 3140 mAh instead of 3250 mAh like on the website says it should for the US model. Can you please confirm what capacity your battery has?

It's 3250 for the US model, but there is an issue with the partition where it still shows the original 3140 mAh instead. It has been notified to ZTE and they said that it will be fixed in the next update.

My phone is shutting down frequently and battery drain is so high.
Can I downgrade to marshmallow? or even fix these problems by any means?
Help!!
Same here. Battery has been draining like hell. Phone dies on me at work most days, with medium usage.
If anyone has got a fix, please feel free to let us know.

I literally can't use my phone.
Almost everytime I open an app, camera or anything the phone shuts down immediately
I had the same problems. Ended up contacting Motorola and got a replacement.
Still not as reliable as original on Marshmallow.

Hello everyone, here is what I've done thus far. . .
Factory reset the phone and allowed all items to sync back over from Gmail
Factory reset the phone and DID not sync back over from Gmail
Ran phone in safe mode
Allowed battery to fully drain, then fully recharged using an OEM charger (battery lasted about 26 hours with very minimal usage)
Fully disassembled and reassembled the phone
Contacted Motorola Support (if phone is out-of-warranty, it'll cost you $100 or $125 for a USED REPLACEMENT of an ALREADY OLD PHONE)
Contacted Verizon Support (waste of time -- they just want you to upgrade of course!)
Cleared cached partition in Recovery mode
Attempted rolling back to Android 6.0 (FYI: you can't -- Bootloader is locked -- don't waste your time like me lol)
At this point, at least in my situation, I feel like the problem has something to do with the Battery and some type of "check" that is done when applications are opened. After I fully disassembled and reassembled my phone, I did not have the random reboot issue whatsoever.. UNTIL.. I used a non-OEM charger. After that, I had about 2-3 of the random shut downs that required the phone be plugged into a charger to start back up. At this moment, the phone hasn't had the random reboots since removing it from a non-OEM charger, but I will continue to investigate.
I planned on replacing the battery as well if the problems persisted. Really sucks that nobody in Motorola is willing to help their customers. I have probably spent upwards to 10 hours troubleshooting this issue and trying to find a root cause, but I'm not a mobile phone professional. If you contact Motorola, they just think $$$ and tell you to send in for a replacement instead of resolving the ROOT CAUSE. That ensures the DT2 to be my final Motorola purchase for a very long time.
Will try that
I hope it works, I really do
Because I can't basically use my phone outside because when it turns off I have to turn it on using a charger!!

I have corrected this problem in my Verizon Turbo 2, the fix is to buy and install a new battery.
My own phone gradually lost it's charge capacity, it would deplete rapidly, then it wouldn't power on except on charger, then it wouldn't power on at all.
Funny thing, this problem is on multiple forums with no fix.
I tried, factory reset multiple times lost all kinds of important texts and memos.
Then I changed the battery from here:
ebay: search " New Replace Battery for Motorola Turbo 2 XT1585 Moto X XT1581 SNN5958A FB55 -USA "
I would say it is an extremely easy swap. Just have to heat up the back rubber with a hairdryer to release it, or not! (I didn't, I slowly peeled mine)
If that was helpful, shoot me those sweet wage slavery bills at my paypal catindahat247(at)yahoo(dot)com

I had assumed it was a battery issue myself. I just now replaced my battery as well, so I will see if my problems resolve. $20 for a replacement battery > buying a new phone, that's for sure!
Got mine fixed by changing my charger. In my case my charger was the issue. Yes it's the charger that came with the phone.
I swapped out chargers with my girlfriend, she uses nexus 6. So far the nexus charger has worked magic

Has the battery replacement fixed your issues permanently? Were you getting fast battery drain, or having random shutdown problems?

Sorry for delays! Yes, this has absolutely resolved my problems. I bought my replacement battery off of eBay and I have not had random shut downs or fast battery drain. I will say the battery life isn't as good as a brand new device (from the manufacturer), but it's a barely noticeable difference in battery life.

Hi Every one,
I've got the battery issue on my 6p 8.1. (fast drain and shutdown at 40 or 60%...)
I have found a shop who Can replace it with a new one.
Does the replacement fix this lifetime/fix this issue?
thanks,
Is the fast charging in cause of bad battery life? Is it advised to take a slow tradtionnal charger?

Hope the replacement will be efficient.
My next charger will be a slow charger, it's said it's very bad for smartphone's batteries.

1-With your new battery the issue will be gone.I replace mine a few weeks ago and my Nexus 6P feels like a new phone.
2-Do not use any other charger. The best one so far ahead is the stock/original charger.
Did for me.

I left the US a few months ago for a long term gig here in mainland China. I brought my 6P with me. It was to the point that within 15 minutes coming off the charger at 100 percent, it would read around 50 percent and shut down. Took it to a Huawei service center here in Shenyang - they wouldn't touch it (claimed it wasn't a Huawei phone, it was a Google phone and I should take it to a Google store when I get back to the US. Talk about clueless (hey Charlie Chan.... what's that vendor mark on the back of the phone??). Anyway, ordered a new battery (cost me about 15 bucks US) and took it to one of the thousands of mom and pop shops that do cell phone service and had them replace the battery. Since then it's like I have a brand new phone. I'm getting usage of 6 - 8 hours of heavy use. I wake up in the mornings after forgetting to put it on the charger ... i'm still at 70 percent. It's awesome!

Had the battery replaced in January. No problem since then... As you said I think the problem is mainly the fast charge. Now I always use a normal charger and never had a problem since :good:
ok, thanks for advices.
Battery replacement is planned in few days.
Just hope it will be good quality, and have to find a slow charger.
Yes it does. Just make sure you get an OEM battery.
I did mine a few weeks ago, no issues with the install and no issues with the phone, and long battery life ever since.
Not possible for me to verify if OEM or not... (Will happen on a shop).
I will see how stands the new battery. I bring my phone tomorrow morning.
It coasts to me 50$.
back from the shop, job is done: I'v got a new abttery (for 50$).
Seems to be ok. big battery life.
The guy has broken the piece up in the back but will replace it for free.
now, have to buy a slow charger to take care of the battery.
I have 3 aftermarket batteries and over time have all showed the same issues. they may/may not boot, but even if they do, randomly for no reason whatsoever just turn off, like if I were to pull the battery out. it will boot but then keep bootlooping.
as soon as I put in the oem battery, its all fine.
how many have had this issue as well?

Not the same issues but I have a supposed OEM battery which boots but then then phone screen show “Invalid battery” and it shuts down. My V20 is the V995 Verizon model. The battery look the same as the original with the exception that on the top next to the contacts there is a small area, which on the original battery has a white spot, whereas the spare has nothing.

Same thing here with OEM batteries, it's rare but it's happened a couple of times after inserting a new battery. I just hit the power button again and it boots properly and works OK. My wild guess is maybe the battery didn't make proper contact? Dirty contact, maybe? Don't know, it never fails a second time and it's been weeks since the last failure so I'm not worrying about it and if your phone reboots OK after the error and shutdown, I wouldn't worry about it either.
Oh, FWIW, both my batteries have the white spot you mention.
Update, just did it again, hit the power button and rebooted with no problem. It's mildly annoying but not worth worrying about IMHO.
Hi
My battery still shows as "Invalid " on reboot, every time. Have ordered another and hopefully this one will be ok.

These days batteries lasts only two years. After that one day battery will stop working suddenly. This happened to my one plus one which was having normal battery but started rebooting suddenly one day. The service center guy said these modern batteries have some kind of kill switch which will trigger after a number of charging cycles.
The reason I bought lg v20 with an extra battery was to use it longer that two years.
I'm using this one since several months and had no issues. It took a few charges before getting my usual 4-hour SOT though. https://www.amazon.ca/Perfine-BCK-5200-BL-44E1F-Replacement-T-Mobile/dp/B06XTYCXJ5
I've had 6 different varieties of battery, including the IPossible 6600 (?) and the Li-Po. I've gotten the invalid battery message a couple of time but I just reboot and everything is fine. I've had the phone since 10\16 and I'll think about getting the LG V50 a year after it's released. I love this phone\Audio-God!
Still getting "Invalid battery" and shutdown, reboot and the same thing happens. Still waiting on my replacement due 18th. Original battery is now not lasting a full day but then I have had the V20 since Jan 2017. My main problem is that Amazon will not send batteries or liquid items to here in N. Ireland so have to try and source elsewhere.
I bought the Powerbear 3200 MAH, haven't received yet. but do you guys recon it's good?
