My PC has recently died on me. Is there a way to root without one? I've been stuck with non-root and am just getting back into the light side, so kinda behind
I did it through my pixelbook.

As all methods use fastboot or adb sideload or both, you need an external device.

Hello,
after trying out a few roms i wanted to go back to stock and wanted to have a completely clean device.
So i went booted to TWRP recovery and wiped everything i could (including the currently installed ROM and internal storage).
So I wanted to mount USB to copy the ROM on my device but it doesn't connect to the PC.
So I'm stuck in recovery and have no idea how to connect it.
I hear the sound of the PC recognizing a USB connection but then comes that USB error sound you hear when it fails to connect.
Please help
Of course it doesn't. Internal storage is not UMS.
Use adb to push files.
Also, if you want to go back to stock you don't use recovery. Use the bootloader and fastboot.

Can you please explain why UMS had been disabled on custom ROMs? It was so easy to transfer data to memory using UMS!

I did try to push via adb but as I said the USB didn't connect
but thanks I did go back to the thread u posted and noticed there are two links for the drivers
it seems that the 2nd one (it's the one I had installed) doesn't actually include adb drivers so my device couldn't connect
well so I installed the drivers from the first link and it's resolved thanks a lot!
What is a good way to remove the super user app without root or USB function(hardware issue). I have to send my phone back in a couple days to get a new one and need to get rid of custom lock at the startup. I have the att i337. The only way USB works is in download mode.
You can use triangle away to get rid of the custom status and then use a root Explorer to delete the busybox files after that use SuperSu 's built in uproot to finish up. You might want to delete the busybox before triangle away.

The script files are not installed so I do not have root.
Sorry, misread your post.
You have to have root to remove the custom status.

Is there a way to root without USB ability on device? It will only connect to pc in download mode. All other USB options won't work because of hardware issue. I just need to find a way to root without usb. I do have a sd card and reader.
It's not a hardware issue. If it is connecting through download mode, it is either a driver issue, a port issue on your computer or the software on your phone is borked and you can ODIN it to fix it. This is not a hardware issue on the phone at all.

So, short of it is I installed TWRP using freegee, which worked correctly. I had a rom on my storage, and did a wipe twice, but now the rom I had on the SD isn't there anymore and not sure what I should do. I search to figure out how to mount or side load the rom on the SD again, but not sure. Any ideas?
My last resort is to go to Best Buy where I bought the phone the other day and just say my phone is stuck on the LG logo and not sure why, it is possible to swap out phones, and hope they let me?
If I get an OTG UBS cable, and put the file on a external USB or USB sd card reader, will that work?

Did you not create a backup before flashing?
Backup was deleted too, or else I would have used it.
Ok since you mess up ! And dont know how to use adb. I suggest you use LG Flash Tool to go back to factory stock so you can go back to stock. And Noooooo returning the phone when it's rooted won't work you have alvery void your warranty by doing that they won't take the phone like that since they can just check if the phone was being rooted and there is no way right now to remove the counter.

Well I tried to ADB via adb sideload, but it didn't work? It said it was starting sideload features, but nothing happens. I tired to use ADB push, but the device was not recognized. Any suggestions there?
So, is there a link to using the LG Flash tool? Thanks
Did you set up adb in the computer? Do you have the drivers for it? If yes check the cable or the computer usb port is the problem.

Here ya go buddy.. This is the easiest way.. Flashtool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Well I would think ADB flash tool should work if I was able to root via command prompt. I know I had the drivers installed. I will try a different usb cable, and usb port. On a side note if I get an OTG cable and use a SD card with a usb reader will I be able to use that to just flash a rom?
With adb, I click adb sideload, and then let in starting sideload features mode in the fastboot folder I open command prompt and type adb push rom.zip with rom.zip being the new rom i want to install, right? But, when I tried that nothing really happens.
This one is specific for Verizon, if you have the Verizon model since you never specified. Try this or the other one posted. And also read up a little more you seem a tad on the short end lol ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448960
Yeah that is the one I am reading as I have the Verizon model. And short end how so?
It worked correctly and I feel relieved. Thank you all. I just re-rooted and installed CWM touch via command prompt and it all worked correctly. Now I am just waiting to download another rom and see how that turns out. Again Thank you all.
Hi,
My wife just replaced pattern on Nexus 4 running android 5.0.1 with PIN Code yesterday night. In morning, she just doesn't remembers it (Girls are Girls ) Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and mobile data connection settings are turned off.
Phone has Android Device Manager installed and activated as well. But unless it doesn't have a working internet connection, its of no use. Lots of pictures, very precious
It was never rooted. USB Debugging is enabled and its bootloader is unlocked(i did it during kitkat update).
1 Is there any way through which i can recover the data?
2 Maybe i can root it in some way or install any custom recovery through which i can take backup/copy the data?
3 Is there any way to get this phone connected to internet i.e. reverse tethering or anything?
4 Can i flash the previous or same factory image so that i can get into the system and access the data?
Please help guys, XDA is my last hope of ray !!
Even if it is locked, you are able to turn on/off mobile data or WiFi. Just slide the statusbar down.
If the bootloader is unlocked you can install a custom recovery, twrp, with fastboot. Then use adb while booted into the custom recovery and pull the data you want off the device.

No, you need a custom recovery
Edit, I keep forgetting that twrp has the ability to enable mtp. So it's as easy as booting into recovery, enable mtp, then just copy and paste files from you device to your pc. No need for adb pull commands.

I am not very familiar with the root process overall, but I did root my phone like 2 years ago. So, I decided to start using my old nexus 4 today. I tried to restore my nexus 4 this morning from twrp, and now I am not able to connect it with my computer to install another rom. I am only able to access twrp on the phone. I have been trying to use nexus root toolkit on the computer but I keep getting adb / fastboot device not found. Am I missing any process here? Is there any way to solve this?
