MIUI 10 OTA Update Discussion - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi all,
Recently Xiaomi released the official OTA update for the RN4 Qualcomm. I want to update but I'm a little bit hesitant because I find myself really good with Miui 9. Does any one have any experience with the new Miui 10?
Does it lag? What about battery life? Any other things that need to be discussed?
Thanks in advance

Well, MIUI 10 is ok. No lag (yeah, it's very smooth), mui 10 has good battery, but there is no battery percentage on status bar.
Everything other is perfect for me.

You can enable that in the settings

So I've been using Official Miui 10 on my RN4 SD for about 2 days now. Overall I'm pleased with it. Feels smother and animations seems quicker than miui 9, however when the phone is cold from a reboot it takes some lag to get it to speed. The new ui with its animations is enjoyable and the Miui 10 is nothing more than "just a theme" because we still get Android 7.0 Nougat. I've got to be honest, the user interface reminds alot iOS with bluring effects and overall white theme inside the menus. Battery life seems a tiny bit better though which is nice.

Where os portrait modelo in Miui 10.0.1.1?

Go to Settings -> Battery & Performance -> Power -> on the top right corner hit the Clockwork icon -> Battery indicator -> Choose percentage and you're set!

Thank you, i find it.
It's in settings>notification&status bar>battery indicator.

So i should stay on custom rom or miui?

Version 9.x was much better. Just switched to this phone and seems lot of battery drain issues

Battery is better with miui 10.
Did you switch to m10 without factory reset?

I updated via wifi. Have not done anything after same.

Tried CM 6.0 for 2 hours and restored to FRG83 stock

I was expecting better performance out of CM 6. however other than yes there are a lot of tweak settings, functionally, there's nothing to gain from nexus one's stock rom. I've seem people say CM has better performance than stock at youtube. but maybe it's just me, I see no differences.
damn where's the google 2.3? still no details on what will be in it.
I love being able to rotate any direction, the RenderFX widgets, changing the haptic feedback, easy access to useragent switching in the browser, application moving to SD card, trackball wake, status bar changes, etc.
To each his own I suppose.
Do you think you can notice a difference in 2 hours?
Give it at least a week then give it a proper critique. Also, Cyanogen is not 100% new code, it is based on AOSP.
It does everything stock does and more. What's the logic of going back to stock?
For god's sake, at least try the newest nightly before talking...6.0 is old stuff and doesn't even contain the 2.2.1 update...at LEAST 6.1 RC1...
there are NO reasons to go back unless you are just too lazy to pass 1 hour configuring it the first time you install...

I too tried CM 6.1 RC1 and returned to PureFroyo Kernal + Geo's FRG83D within about a day. While I'm not running fully stock, it's very close.
I just found that the bat life on CM was not as good as on the Stock ROM or Geo's FRG83D. For example, with stock, moderate usage from the morning to early afternoon would bring me down to around 80%. With CM, I was down to about 70% in roughly the same amount of time.
yes. I will try 6.1 final gold.

Honestly, Once you throw Launcher Pro on any rom it pretty much runs the same. The only differences between roms are the small ones.
MIUI has the a different SMS, Unlock Screen, Toggles in the Pull Down Menu, and a few others. I don't like the iPhone approach, nor the menu's.
CM is mostly stock with a lot of tweaks. I really like the Toggles position in the pull down and the ability to add/remove/reposition toggles as well as the ability to change the taskbar colors on the fly. You can add multiple recipients to SMS/MMS messages. The browser options are awesome having them so handy. Built-in Colored Notification Support. Audio Adjustments. etc etc.
One thing I do (since I like a minimalistic install too) is use Launcher Pro and hide some of the nonsense apps I will never use... or set up once and forget/hide.
Geo does have a good rom but the drop down menu toggles and the taskbar themes sold me. Now I can change my taskbar color to match my wallpaper (white, grey, or black usually) and the taskbar toggles save homescreen estate. Quite nice.
I also am getting hella good signal. My work is in a basement. CM 6.1 RC1 is the first rom that I can actually get calls and text messages down there. Normally I get nothing so it is a huge improvement.
Battery life seems improved for me too coming from Geo's, and Rod-MIUI. Normally I take the phone off the charge at 8am and it's dead by 7pm. Now its good all night with 20% left by bedtime.
After rooting I jumped on CM6 because of the reviews but I couldn't get the GPS to work to save my life. I tried that fix w/ GPS status to no avail. So I flashed Geo's ROM and never looked back. It is definitely the most stable ROM. And you get great support from Geo, he answers all your questions. He updated to FRG83D within 3 hours of its release!
Are the GPS issues fixed in 6.1 RC1?
I used to run CM6 nightlies before switching to MIUI. I miss a lot of features from CM, mostly the CM settings tweaks (limiting rotation to 0 and 90 degrees, integrated trackball settings, hold volume to skip songs, haptic tweaks, and changing the application launched from holding home button); but in the end, I love the new features MIUI brought (namely the notification bar, top-bar battery indicator, lock screen launchers, and vastly improved settings UI). I also find the battery lasts way longer than CM did, even after overclocking (to be fair, I am using a different kernel so I'm sure that helps).
Two WHOLE hours? Wow, you must be exhausted from your heavy trials.
The trackball wake is enough to sell it on me. The pull down menu controls that were added in 6.1 are just icing. Even if you don't use all the features, there are enough different features where almost anybody can find a few improvements over stock Android in Cyanogen.
i've been extremely happy with CM 6.1 RC1, i agree that 6.0 was no faster and maybe in some areas slightly slower than the current stock rom but the extra little features and the freedom to run root apps seals the deal for me anyday but then again i've been running cyanogen roms for a very long time (i was one of the first people with a G1)
The problem with CM6.X is that it ship with a crappy kernel IMHO. If you install wildmonks latest kernel (2.6.35.8_AVS-950mV_CFS_AXI_720p_1152MHz_112010) you'll never see a nexus as fast as this.
After that, you use SetCPU to have screen off profiles and you overclock you phone to the max.
I get easily 10 hours more of battery than stock froyo and and froyo fells like eclair compare to my setup (speed wise)
To be honest I didn't like it at first and did what you did, and went back to stock. But then a week later I tried it again and realized it was pretty awesome. I am running stock now just for the 2.3 update but will root again and put cm on there once I get updated...give it more time.

Not really, device tree for N9 is extremely similar to mine. Plus it currently has forced encryption.
Installed latest nightly with ElementalX kernel and everything looks good. I like the Expanded Desktop view to maximize viewing screen. Moreover, the options on launcher to show big icons is a plus.
What gapps do they recommend?

How's the performance of CM12 compared to stock? It made a HUGE difference on the 2012 Nexus 7, so curious if the same on the N9.
Yes, I am also interested to know about the performance and, especially, battery life benefits of CM12 on our Nexus 9. I am refraining from rooting my 5.0.1 stock for the moment hoping that 5.1 finally adresses the governor "issue" in order to get better battery life and less hiccups out of this thing while browsing, but if CM12 delivers already, I might just go all the way and install it right now.

Same here, don't want to reset my tablet for every new rom, but if CM12 offers better performance/smoother experience/better battery I'm willing to switch roms again. Otherwise waiting for 5.1 to be released...
There are sound bugs that the clicking volume like keyboard can't be lowered. Charging is very slow. Performance is comparable or slightly slower than stock Rom.

this,right here.
The charging isnt even just slow, its eratic honestly. if i use a 1.2 amp charger it takes over 13 hours to charge. using a 1.8 amp one reduces it to around 8 hours.
Its stable and all, but the charging issue, thats the reason i've decided to go back to stock rom.

Alternative Stable OREO ROM for Mi6

Hi.
Is there any Stable Oreo ROM for Mi6?
What guys will you recommend?
I'm full of MIUI and want to start journey with some alternative ROM
Stable and Android 8? Nop.
So far the stable ROMs are based on Android 7.1.2 and even in those, you are going to lose some performance and camera functions even if you activate the camera2 api. What do you dislike about Miui??

Battery timing on Miui is way better than non miui roms. You will need custom kernels and some modifications to ensure good battery life.

That's funny because battery performance is one of the best things that MIUI has in comparison to other android layers/ROMs
And I dislike MIUI aswell, but I stay with it since it offers the most battery life and camera quality of all ROMs
I won't agree with that I owned Mi5 before and after I install AEX - battery performance highly changed on + compare to MIUI. This is why I'm looking for some stable alternative ROM for Mi6

I would agree. Battery on MIUI isn't actually any better than other ROMs. They are all roughly the same or longer on custom ROMs because they don't have so much bloat running.
However you can extend MIUI battery and performance by disabling MIUI enhancements. Task killers are no longer necessary on android.
Enable developer settings and set memory optimisations to off and disable the MIUI optimisations.
Then it will use the normal android management which is much better for battery and multi tasking.
MIUI is still using task killers based on saving battery on old android versions. Nougat and Oreo definitely don't need this

The battery life on custom room is about the same., Even when using popkern. You may find another issues on the custom ROMs.
But if you want a custom rom, my advice would be trying first Aicp 12.1 it's stable and unless you game won't notice the performance drop.
Los 15.1 is way too buggy to be used as a daily
I am using Atomic OS. The battery life is great, it is fast, it is 8.1 and overall a great ROM. Things that are still not perfect: Bluetooth calls don't work (but will be fixed) and sometimes a micro lag while typing.

Do you have a break down of all the bugs?
Someone was complaining there was no notification sounds etc but I think that would get more widely reported...
Seems like there's no reason not to use it atm

Notification sounds are working perfectly normally, only thing I've noticed is that it stutters at times, and very rarely hangs for a couple seconds.
Only other thing is that dark UI renders some text unreadable, but this is mostly a non issue, as it affects very few areas.
They might be messing something up during installation.

I'll probably use the normal UI anyway unless dark is default.
Sounds good I'll be checking it out tomorrow once I've made some backups etc
Sorry for out of topic guys.
Do u think is worth to buy this phone compared to oneplus 5, cause mi 6 is a lot cheaper.
But I wonder why there is only a few custom roms here?
since this phone is xiaomi flagship.
Honesty I don't like miui, I preferred aosp. Do you think the development on this phone will grow anytime soon?
Or should I just wait for Mi 7? What do u think guys

From what I'm reading:
OnePlus 5 < Mi 6 < OP 5T
If you have the money get the 5T as its more recent.
It also looks more aesthetically pleasing as it has the newer long curved screen.
If not then get the Mi 6.
You can unlock and be using a custom ROM pretty fast just apply for unlocking when you get the phone (but test the phone for some time before you unlock in case you need warranty).
MIUI is actually very pleasant and I enjoy using it. I just prefer custom ROMs because AOSP is less iOS orientated.
If you can wait or you have a decent phone now then just wait because 845 devices are coming so you can get one of those or at least they will blow the price of the current devices way down. Next year we will see them.
Everyone is complain complain complain about Mi 6 ROMs and they should honestly be buying OP phones for more money because that's where the extra money goes - the marketing to developers.
Coming from Sony though I'm over the moon. My phone doesn't bend in my pocket.
My phone doesn't have dead pixels. My phone doesn't come back from the repair center even more bent (yes that's a thing with Sony).
My phone doesn't have incredibly crippling DRM restrictions after unlocking the bootloader so my camera doesn't kill itself after rooting.
And now I can actually have the latest versions of android from the OEM or faster from the talented devs here.
So compared to other OEMs Xiaomi is the f*ucking dream especially considering the price of the phone.
I'm gonna buy another one in a few years and if its as good as the Mi 6 they'll have a loyal customer for life.
The only exception would be if OP releases something better for equal or less money but I doubt they can pull it off.
My only complaint with Xiaomi might be that they use Foxconn as a manufacturer and they don't have the best track record with working conditions since their work for Apple, but I think for any OEM to be competitive they are all sliding down that slope.
Universally better working conditions for electronics manufacture would be nice, but we are a ways off from that.

Small lag after MIUI 11 update

I had my phone since last Sunday, it came with MIUI 10.3.12 and it was super snappy, after the update it still feels snappy, but the fingerprint unlock animation tends to lag and multitasking animation from home screen lags as well, everywhere else feels snappy like always, just those 2 things that really annoys me.
I experimented with reinstalling the MIUI 11 update "Download lastest package" but it made the matter worse. I have the Mi 9T and it currently have Miui 11.0.3.0 Stable Global.
This lags are like the battery drain. Some people suffer others don't. But I'm having those lags in many apps. Uninstall certain apps and see no more lags. Will see.

Like what apps? I tried a factory reset but nothing, it did went back when I updated it but still lag... I feel like unlocking the bootloader, downgrade to Miui 10, relock it and wait if Android 10 improves something.
Just an app that was supposed to improve the overall phone. Used to work in after stable releases.

In my case, I'm just going to wait 1 week for unlocking the bootloader and roll back to Miui 10 or maybe try a custom rom... Unless the Android 10 comes by (For now, it's only available in China).

What's the best Android 12(.1) ROM?

Hi, I'm currently using miui 12.5 (android 10), and I'd like to "renovate" my lavender with a new and updated custom rom. Which one is the best, regarding battery life, performance, smoothness, stability?
I've read few posts about Pixel Experience, AwakenOS and crDroid. I'm a bit concerned about possible battery drain problems. Thanks for your help

So far I've only tried AwakenOS and ArrowOS and it looks like ArrowOS has better battery life.
But I've read positive experiences with SparkOS, so maybe you can try SparkOS.
In the while I tried ArrowOS and the battery life is indeed exceptional! I'm very satisfied

I have used both arrow os and spark os. Each of them for a week now.
Note that I have a 3gb ram phone.
Spark os felt a bit laggy. For example when I taped on a WhatsApp conversation to open it the animation felt not so smooth.
There are battery options to save more battery and other few nice extra features to tweak this and that as well. Spark OS has face unlock. Couldn't keep a few apps open because I got only about 400MB of free RAM.
Arrow OS on the other hand gave me less battery life. Maybe it's just me. But the whole ui was much smoother. Does not have face unlock. When I first installed it without updating firmware, I got about 800mb fee ram and now I have only 400mb left. (as much as spark os)
Hope this helps.
