Help, can't view attachments in gmail app on fire hd 10 - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hope someone can help. On my fire hd 10, I cannot view Gmail attachments via gmail app. When I click the left side of it to view it I only get a white box with a blue line running across the bottom of the white box. If I click on the right side on the download arrow, I can download it then see it but it is nice to be able to view the attachment first then decide if you want to download it. I can do this on my android phone but would like this to work on my fire hd 10. Is this a known issue? Are there any work arounds? Thanks, Cindy

It is a known issue on all current Fire tablets. There is no fix as such, but if you install the Google drive app and save the attachment to your google drive through the gmail menu, you can then open Google drive and access it from there.

So it is an issue with fire devices and NOT the gmail app interacting with fire o.s.?
Would Amazon's email app allow you to preview an attachment using your gmail email address without having to download the attachment? Or any other email app for that matter?
Thanks! Cindy

I think it works if you add the gmail account through other apps like the Outlook app. I've not tried the e-mail app that comes preinstalled.

How can I login to Android Market with a different Google account?

I've rooted my Fire and installed the Android Market without a problem. When I
first opened the market I logged in with my Google account to make sure everything
worked. Since I got this device for my dad, I'd rather he log in with his own Google
account. I've cleared the app data, and even deleted and re-installed. I can't get
the option to log in with a different google account and it stays with mine. Is there
a solution to this? Has anyone else experienced this?
Without access to the Account and Sync menu, I believe you'll need to uninstall and do a fresh reinstall of the market
I've uninstalled the market and re-installed with the apk. Or is there a more precise uninstall I should be doing?
In the Android development subforum here the long how to install market thread has reference to getting gmail to sync and those posts reference another thread with a link to a Sync Settings app. That will allow you to add another gmail account or delete one in addition to setting up sync items and auto sync. If I knew the post I'd gladly supply it but all I remember is where I found reference to the app.
Then just add your dad's email then subtract yours. Then to market and your set.

Worked great. I installed "Quick Sync Settings" from the market. Thank you for providing that link.
I just hit "menu" and added an account from the Market. Or maybe GMail. It was pretty simple, really.
The menu from the market app wash giving me the option. Not until I added another gmail account through the sync settings it did.
Hi I have a similar question but just about the amazon app store. I have been using a separate email account to buy apps than the one to buy all my kindles and books. Is there any work around to have both amazon.com accounts logged in or to keep the apps and books installed while I am on my other account or the other?
I have rooted the tablet and have my google market running fine so I might just have to stick to that.
Thank you
Can't you install Anycut from the android market, open it, create new activity, select accounts and sync or whatever the activity is called, and then go from there?
Additionally can you open the Gmail app, menu, accounts, add account...from here, go to the android market and then you should have 2 different gmail accounts to choose between?

Thanks for that. I tried it and it crashes the system. I actually have two account from google on my market, but my main problem is accessing the apps that are registered to my gmail account. Mainly because my kindle account is a separate email and every time you deregister the Kindle it deletes your books or installs the apps.

Anyone figure out how to remove the main gmail account without having to do a factory reset? I made the mistake of putting in an email address I didn't want to have added. I've already tried adding a second GMail account and removing the primary and got the prompt to factory reset.

Google account sync settings?

Rooted fire with Google apps installed. Ive accidentally gotten to the sync settings page when in a Google app but cant figure out how to get back. Specifically, I want to turn off syncing of picassa web albums in my gallery and gmail contacts. SUGGESTIONS? That wasn't supposed to be in caps. The keyboard blows.

This does not appear to work for me since the upgrade to Google Play Store, so here's another way I found: Gmail -> Accounts -> Menu -> Account settings
Accts & Sync
You should be able to change all the settings from Accounts & Sync under the general settings.

Calendar sync

I have my KF rooted and the aneroid market installed and running, and Google apps installed. Is there a way to get my Google calendar to sync to my kindle?

Which Google apps do you have installed, do you have your Gmail synced? That should allow you to sync your calendar
Go into your "Account & Sync Settings" and make sure calendar is checked marked

Account and sync settings on my computer? On the kindle there is no account and sync settings. Yes I have Gmail synced on my kf.

as far as i know you have to add GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk and GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk to system/app - set permissions like the others and reboot - then gmail mail & calender sync should work ...

There is an account sync settings app you can get from the market, out it is included in the iffy utility. You also need the calendar sync adapter which you can get from another Android device or the iffy utility.

there are a lot of settings on the kf we cannot access but there is a app on the market called "any cut" - with this app you can link the hidden settings to a shortcut on the desktop - any cut -> new shortcut -> activity -> Account & Sync Settings
there are a lot of others like keyboard, display, search ...

I tried the any cut app and now I have it all.set up. But I think you are right about the apks. Do you know where I can get them? And better yet..... what do I do with them? All I have done is root my kindle and followed the you tube video in how to get the market on my kindle.

I think the calendar files you're looking for might be in the gapps.zip file from this thread. Just follow the instructions.

Awesome! Thanks. It seems that I am no longer rooted?! Is it possible that while my 3 year old was playing around with my kf she unrooted it? Odd....my android marketplace still works, its just that root checker is saying I am no longer rooted. Will start from scratch in the morning.
Thanks again.

Hmmm, did you have root access after you received the 6.2.2. update?
There's no need to be rooted in order to install the apks I provided. You may have become unrooted because you finally received the newest update, it's possible I don't know if that is why though

Inline images in an email

I am going on a 7 day bicycle ride next week, from San Francisco to Los Angeles, and I want to send some emails while I'm on the road. One of my teammates made awesome banner images for each day, so I want to put those at the top of each email message.
I can create drafts in Gmail on the web, add the images, put some text and leave them ready to send. What I want to do as the days go by is edit each draft, add any updates or special mentions based on the events and send.
Unfortunately, when I access the draft in the Android Gmail app, the format is completely lost. The app turns the inline image into an attachment and it doesn't even get sent when testing.
Does anyone know of an Android email client (IMAP preferably) that does inline images? Even if it's with a URL or that allows HTML tags?

Hmm well you could try using the full computer page of gmail. Via the stock browser app.
Install flash player if you already dont have it - http://db.tt/LiJFLmj1
(Backup flashplayer.apk from my dropbox)
Then just open native browser app and check request full site under the pull down settings.

Hmm that's good to know! I found that Maildroid allows inserting the images inline. I can write up my drafts on Google Docs and then copy and paste into Maildroid and insert the images. This should make it fairly easy to do with just my phone.
Thanks for the help!

Gmail App will not download attachments - Fire10 7th edition

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and have an annoying problem with the Gmail app on my Amazon Fire 10hd.
Problem: Gmail app will not download attachments.
No matter what I try, uninstalling, searching through settings, I have never managed in nearly two years, to get this app to download an attachment. I really like the Gmail app, but it is extremely frustrating to have to keep swapping to the Amazon app to retrieve attachments when using the Fire 10. I use the Gmail app on our two Samsung phones and also the laptop, without this problem, so it is indicative to the Amazon tablet. I would not want to use another app after all the years I have used Gmail.
I wonder if anyone may have a remedy for me?
Any help gratefully received.
