Help - With my Samsung S7 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

I was given a paid off, carrier unlocked sprint samsung galaxy s7 model G930P that is running 8.0 oreo. I use verzion so i tried muti verzion firmware found on xda and flashed thru odin with no luck. I came across the official samsung s7 G930U v8.0 oreo firmware and that flashed perfectly. I would like to root this phone but every tutorial/video fails to flash using odin. If I soft brick the phone I re-flash the Official Samsung S7 G930U oreo 8.0 firmware and try something else.
I guess i'm getting confused with all the info i'm reading here at the forums and asking for help to see what are my possible options? In short this was a sprint phone that was unlocked and now running official samsung firmware. Is there a working way to root this firmware or Is there a way to flash the verzion firmware and root that? At this point i'm only looking to have a firmware with root access with stock rom at lease.
Thanks in advance!
Current phone Info:
Model: SM-G930U
Baseband version: G930UUEU8CRJ2
Build #: R16NW.G930UUEU8CRJ2
OS: Oreo v8.0
Android security patch lvl: 10/1/18

Correct me if i'm wrong but from what i'm reading/learning from this forum is the 5th digit determines which bootloader i'm on?
so if my baseband ver. is G930UUE8CRJ2. That means i'm on bootloader 8 right?
And if what i'm learning is correct..... bootloader 8 is unrootable?
Thanks in advance for shedding some light on this dark day.

Yes, 8 cannot be rooted. What are you trying to do that requires root? There may be a workaround

Nothing major. I was hoping it was possible because some of the apps i'm so used to need root (ex: titanium backup & root explorer). I guess I'm so used to using a rooted phone that it feels weird without it. But I know that is just the tech in me......wanting to tweak something that doesn't really need to be tweaked lol

Ok, because there are workarounds for things like ad blocker; Youtube ad block; disabling apps; and hotspot. Yeah, build.prop/xml edits are off the table.

Hi, as I know if the cell phone firmware changes, it will probably brick. But recently I bought S5 version from a local guy which having firmware of g900f.
Q. It is possible ? Should I move to g900f threads ?
I m uploading screenshots, if someone understand n tell me I will be very pleased.

Curious - can you give me the output of "cat /sys/block/mmcblk0/device/cid" from Terminal Emulator?
Also - try flashing this in Odin.
I dont why it was not working but I tried via efs and this is I have 150xxxxxxxxcccccc510xxx

there are 2 possibilities about flashing g900f firmware on your g900v:
1) it will refuse to flash
2) you will hardbrick
as I said earlier, please flash this to check whether your bootloader is locked or unlocked.

And secondly if I install this recovery then what are chances ? I will stuck in the recovery, then I have to redo n start from the scratch? And what I have right now firmware showing g900f on my 900v it will be gone ?

The G900F has an unlocked bootloader - the G900V does not. If it does flash, you can root if you want. If it doesn't flash - all your stuff will still be there.
By the way - there is no such thing as too many questions

I meant that should get rid of the G900F files.
If there are any adverse effects, flash PB1 using odin. Do you know how to (if you want to?)

Now I understand the situation.
I would NOT attempt to unlock the bootloader, just use FlashFire, unless you want AOSP. Try flashing a G900F rom on yours. I don't see why it would not work

But will Odin go back to older firmware? Or are you stuck on PH1 bootloader? Thx for confirmation.
Probably stuck, but you should still be able go between the latest U and V firmwares. I am giving up on a non engboot root method. Sammy signed that kernel so it should always flash and permit root. But, that's not a well educated guess...

You can't. The only reason we can is because we have a leaked engineering kernel that allows root. Sadly Verizon killed root on the S6 about a year ago.

Hello, I just tried rooting my verizon s7 edge on the ph1 update using the link someone on this thread provided to someone else and am now stuck in a bootloop with the verizon logo stuck on the screen. How did you achieve root on yours? by using the same steps? Also, what do you think could have possibly went wrong and how would I be able to fix this? Your help would be much appreciated.

If you're stuck on the boot logo, you HAVE TO factory reset the device. When I rooted this happened to me and after doing the factory reset, it worked like a charm

When I was stuck, I did and the factory reset and it booted up right and I didn't have to re-flash the kernel. If dosen't boot up right away, re-flash stock firmware, don't dis able anything, then flash the kernel and it will work .

Oh ok, well hopefully it boots right up. lol So I really haven't been into rooting and flashing roms for awhile now so Id thought I give it a try on this phone. What would you say would be best for performance/stability/battery life as far as roms go? Or do you just stick with stock? i do not do a whole lot on my phone and I also don't really use much of the features that came along with the s7 edge. i just use it for light gaming/social media/picture taking. So I guess what I am asking is what is your recommendation?

I also searched weeks and i have it . a simple fast root for our sm930P Sprint and other versions S7 on a locked bootloader . i have done two S7s one on ra1 and the other on BD2 a 5 and 6 . it rooted the first time on both and the speps are simple . no bootlooping apps to install no confusion .simple install.. it runs very very fast and i see no difference from a stock nugget phone other than samsung pay and a few samsung apps dont like root. it even has an over cloke if you want. Flash at your own risk but now i have my titanium backup and other root apps running flawless . on TING . simple two steps involved and no bootloops . i used the system root option and did not wipe data and used the leave safestrap on it or no safestrap installed option . the rest is EASY PEASY https://www.androidsage.com/2017/03...gat-firmware-usa-att-t-mobile-verizon-sprint/

There is no root currently for Oreo. On s8s if you haven't taken the revision 3 bootloader you can downgrade and root nougat.
Also the 80% charge is the engineering kernel used for root. It is preset from Samsung to not charge over 80% this has been mentioned a million times over
so no root available yet for android oreo . what about the mobile data icon bcz it is missed from CP?

This is bad news, I am sick and tired of Samsung useless apps. I think my next cell will be a Pixel.
Is there any hope for this cell to soon be rootable?
