Hi,
thanks for your help with my last problem! Here are two more
1. Taking Screenshots:
I tried 3 apps: Screenshot UX Trail, Screenshot Ultimate and AirDroid.
Screenshot UX says: failure getting su.
Screenshot Ultimate has automatic detection for different modes to take screenshots (with or without root). None of them works, and my device isn't recognized as rooted.
AirDroid says, it is trying to get root access, but the superuser app doesn't ask for my permission. Nothing happens.
2. Record Calls:
I've tried 10+ different apps. None of them can record my call. Before the connection is established (phone rings), I can record my own voice, but when the call is answered, the recording is interrupted.
I also tried "normal" voice recorders, like "ASR - Free MP3 Sound Recorder". Recording works fine until I call someone, then only silence is recorded.
Currently I'm using DSC 2.1.
Do you have any solution?
callrecorder from skvalex works for me
Kastorsoft Screenshot worked for me. Look for version 1.5 as later versions have become crippleware.
Unfortunately I couldn't find screenshot from Kastor Soft.
Price tag for callrecorder from skvalex is a bit to steep for me...
But thanks for your suggestions anyway!
I tested another callrecorder app "allCallRecorder" from Android Labs. It records my voice until established connection. Under settings there is an option to record also the other party's voice. If I try to tick that, it says: "Unfortunately, your phone does not support recording other party voice."
Could someone please test this app, if you get this error?
Don't know, if this is related to screenshot and callrecorder problems, but I also cannot grant su for new apps. Also busybox doesn't get su anymore. Other apps, like rootdim or clocksync work.
I tested with rootchecker as suggested by busybox. Says my phone is correctly rooted.
What can I do?
Kastorsoft never charged for Screenshot 1.5, so shoot me a PM with your email and I'll send you a copy of the APK.
Root your Streak again, as it somehow lost root.
I think the problem is actually in SimpleSU.
Have you run the DSC SimpleSU ACL?
Just tried "Screenshot UX Trail" again. It can't get su unless I grant su manually via simpleSU. Then it works fine! Thx for that suggestion n0p!
Therefore no need for other screenshot app. Thx anyway strephon!
Busybox had also no root permission, so I granted it manually with simpleSU, still error in busybox. Reinstalled busybox, no change, still error. Any suggestions?
n0p, do you have any idea, whats wrong with call recording? I Tested AllCallRecorder again, the error with other party voice doesn't appear anymore. Still no recording possible.

With some help on the cyanogenmod forums, I worked out a way to enable the integrated superuser manager to actually function!
REVISED EDITION:
WARNING! DO NOT ATTEMPT UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
This is an experimental step to bring a feature from regular Cyanogenmod to 11S. You have been warned.
This requires adb and fastboot to be installed.
Please read all the instructions before attempting
1)-- Optional-Flash a custom recovery of your choice. There are threads out there that explain this.
2)Next flash the debuggable kernel, found at the bottom of this post. You can easily flash it via fastboot.
fastboot flash boot ./path/to/boot-debuggable.img
2)Download su.zip I created.
3)Boot into custom recovery(a requirement). This can be done without actually flashing it. Look up how, plenty of threads already.
4)Flash su.zip
8) Reboot.
9)If you didn't before doing this, go to Settings => About Phone and enable developer mode. Under Settings => Developer Options select Root Access and change it to Apps and ADB. Now install any root application or root checker and test it out.
Debuggable Kernel is downloadable here at the bottom:

I'm going to try this one.
I suspect that the normal root is doing something bad for my battery life.

What current superuser manager are you using? SuperSU?
Download*Android Terminal Emulator
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm
Launch the app and type the following commands:
su (will request for superuser permissions)
setprop persist.sys.root_access 3
This is the other way to install Superuser in the Settings.

That only makes the menu visible. The menu will not actually function as a Superuser manager. For that, you would need the debuggable kernel and the proper compatible su binary which is why I wrote my instructions.
Will this solve the problem I am currently having?
I have the new OnePlus One phone. It is unlocked and rooted.
In the Secure Settings plugin for Tasker, I cannot get the System+ Module to install, but get the following message:
Code:
Root access i currently disabled for all applications by a system setting.......
Would you like to enable it now?
Clicking OK sends me to the developer menu where there are no options to enable root access.
How can I get this thing to install?

Well you have two options, either enable the functional Superuser menu by following my instructions or enable the developer options menu and then from within the developer options menu disable it. That will enable the NON-functional Superuser menu.

I had this same exact issue with secure settings, and elected to follow the instructions on this page to activate the cyanogenmod root settings - it worked just fine. Interestingly, even after losing the "built in root" after updating to XPNH300, secure settings still seems happy.
I have followed the intro on 30O except using franco's kernel replace the debugable one. No notification show up when the app asked ROOT authority and also the authorization didn't success. Is this method only support by stock kernel?

It isn't supported by the stock kernel.
It is supported by the stock debuggable kernel.
It is also supported by any kernel that has ro.debuggable set to 1. To check if a kernel has that set, boot into it and run from a terminal app or adb "getprop ro.debuggable".
Currently, there is no stock debuggable kernel available for 30O yet however the link below has a workaround zip that will enable integrated superuser access, with the exception of adb root.

As of right now, the stock debuggable kernel for 30O is live and available.
Thanks for your work.
But could you please update to the latest version of the SuperSU binaries or could you tell me, what you modified comparing it to the normal SuperSU.zip?
Would you please share how and why would this be different than a straight forward install of SuperSU?

My girlfriend used an app on her rooted s6 to hide root during the initial setup. it allowed her to go through the whole setup. then once it was loaded and working, she unhid root and deleted the app
Mileage may vary, and afterwards, worst case scenario, you may need to reflash supersu in twrp. Not likely though

You can add cards 'rooted' (turn off SU, add card, turn SU back on) but you can't use it to tap and pay

There was/is a big thread on this. Once your phone is rooted, you can't use the phone to tap and pay with Android Pay. Even if you unroot. Confirmed by a Google employee who worked on Android Pay.
See discussion here and here.
I have had it working by using the su program to remove root . then reboot phone. Tap and pay then works. Not sure if everyone had the same results. But this worked for me. When I needed root back i just used su and put it back.
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
In superSU I just hid root and then I was able to add the cards that were already in my Google wallet account. Haven't tried tap and pay but I can do that tomorrow to confirm. I was afraid that the unlocked bootloader was gonna be a problem beyond the root issue but so far it isn't.
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
Hide my root will hide the SU binary and allow Android Pay to work but it not only hides the SU it disables ROOT until you unhide it...so any apps that need root will not work while this is hidden. If you hide the SU binary...you have to reboot before android pay will work....tap and pay...not fun...frustrating
Anyone tried rooting Pixel XL and how does it works after rooting ? Reviews
Everything works fine here
Rooting generally does not and can not effect the device. What you do after may either harm or help the device.
All that rooting does is give you SU access it is what you do with the access that makes a difference.
Mind you even though in itself rooting is pretty harmless, Google will always try and detect the root and stop APPs like Android Pay from working.

With USB Debuiing enabled open your ADB terminal and type :
"adb shell"
"su"
"mkdir /su/etc; cp /system/etc/hosts /su/etc/hosts; echo "#!/su/bin/sush\nmount -o bind /su/etc/hosts /system/etc/hosts" > /su/su.d/50adaway; chmod 0700 /su/su.d/50adaway"
After this reboot your device and apply ad blocking hosts with the latest ad away build
Thank you for the info!
I wonder if there are plans to update adaway so this procedure will not be needed..

All you have to do is download the 3.2 Dev preview build and enable systemless mode in preferences. Works like a charm.

That's great so with version 3.2 dev no adb procedure is needed?
PLEASE NOTE:This is NOT a guide to root your phone but i did provide the links to the tools to do so for the Samsung j700p.
WARMING; Rooting a device may void the warranty on the device. It may also make the device unstable or if not done properly, may completely brick the device. Some methods may install additional apps/software on your device. XDA-Developers or the author does not take any responsibility for your device. Root at your own risk and only if you understand what you are doing! Additionally this may go against your service contract which I'm not responsible for as well.
Worked for my j700p running 7.1.1 stock rooted with TWRP/SUPERSU latest.
What you need to do to get tethering on Nougat is root the device (temporarily at least), enable tethering and then (if you want) unroot it so that everything is back to normal and you can take OTA updates and use Android Pay without any issues.
All you’ll need to enable tethering on Android nougat is TWRP recovery installed on your device and the latest systemless SuperSU zip to root the device. (Always remember to backup your system just in case)
How to Enable Tethering on Android Nougat
Root your android running nougat
Edit build.prop file: Add the
net.tethering.noprovisioning
line to the bottom of build.prop file on your Android device. (Download Build Prop Editor from the play store if you don't know how to get to this, I suggest Rom toolbox as it has build.prop included as well as terminal emulator which you will need for the next step. LINKS BELOW)
Reboot device after saving changes to build.prop file.
Download/install a Terminal emulator app from Play Store (I used the terminal emulator included in ROM toolbox but you can choose whichever you'd like.) You also you WILL need busy box installed to be able to execute this line.
Open Terminal emulator on your device and issue the following commands one-by-one:
su
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
exit
└ Grant root access to the app when asked.
Reboot device
DONE!
If you wish to unroot now you can. I have not tested this so can't confirm if works after unroot (since I love having ROOT) but jyst go to
SuperSu settings full unroot. Restart and you should be good. This should renable android pay. If not don't ask me to help as I don't use android pay nor wish to unroot my own device.

Hmm try using a vpn. Nordvpn is having a 7day free trial right now. Reset your network settings, repeat the steps above. Before you turn on the hotspot shield turn on the vpn and after connect try it. If you still get the notification then its something installed on your phone from VM that's monitoring your usage which is most likely. I recommend switching to boost. Their 50$ plan is pretty good. Great coverage in my area and surroundings. I use about 200-300gb torrenting and tethering a month and they don't seem to care. Using a vpn I get about 2mb down consistently except during peak hours. Anyways let me know about the vpn working or not. Hopefully it's that simple.

Yea I hear you. My $50 plan comes with 8gb hotspot buti tend to go over that...WAY over that lol. Currently torrenting 8 pc games lol. Side note though on this plan. You get 23gb a month "prioritized" connection meaning full speeds always. After that your put on the back burner during peak times or in other words when your tower your connected to is busy. Doesn't happen often it seems and I live in the middle of a decent size city so if you're not in say Houston or new York I'd say you won't have anything to worry about. Open Terminal emulator on your device and issue the following commands one-by-one:
su
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
exit
└ Grant root access to the app when asked.
Reboot device
Now I put su and entered the setting line but when I put exit nothing happen.... I did reboot... any way how to tell if I did this right and works fine?? I have j700t1 metro

Did you type each line and hit enter(return) each time? Such as "su[enter]" starts another line "settings put global blah blah[enter]" it will start another line "exit[enter]" u may need to type exit again after this. I had to. So 2 "exit[enter]"
I used an alternative method I found here awhile back.. install APN backup and restore, convert it to a system app (important, use apps2sd or the like), backup your apns then edit the backup file, add ",dun" to each apn in the APN backup xml in the "type" field. Then go back into the APN backup app, delete apns and restore the backup you edited. There's a full write up here around the just forum somewhere with more details. It works great, may have to restore your APN backup if you update prl.

Does this method still work for you? Now when I use my WiFi after my 8gb limit it goes to boost homepage on connected device ?
Does this work on the j700t1.
I'm going to try it when I get home but I'm just curious if anyone got it working on the metro pcs variant.
