Weird data speed issue - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hi all!
Situation:
I have 2 sim cards both operating on LTE (4G).
Sim1 also uses VOLTE.
The weird part:
Sim1:
Speedtest 130 Mbit/s DOWN // 45 Mbit/s UP
Chrome download: MAX 570 kb/s ???!??!?!
Google play download: MAX 570 kb/s ??!??!?!!
Sim2:
Speedtest, chrome download or google play download all same speeds and OK.
WiFi:
Same as sim2 all OK.
Why on sim1 chrome and google play have so low download speed but speedtest is perfectly OK?
Anyone else?
Thanks for suggestions!
Running 9.0.5 with EX kernel and Magisk volte enabler, no other mods installed.

Could you possibly have some kind of throttling on your account on that line? I had that happening before, the speed test will show you the speed that you're capable of getting, but in other places like Google Play, you will only get what you're allowed to by the network or by your account.

The firt thing I did was checked with provider and no limits are reached and account is NOT throttled in any way.
So they say

Ah ok lol, hmm. When it happened to me on T-Mobile, it was because of a bug in a feature called Kickback where you get a discount if you don't go over 2GB in a month.... I had that feature enabled but went over two gigs and got throttled. The difference was that they could see immediately that I was throttled, it just took a long time for them to figure out why. Hope you figure this out!

So....
I tried with HTC U11, and got 120 Mbit/s so network provider is NOT to blame.
On 6T I tried:
Only slot 1
Only slot 2
Disabled VOLTE
Same situation.
Speedtest is above the roof while chrome, firefox or any other software is downloading like 600 kb/s.
Second SIM card on another provider is OK.
WTF?

Ok figured it out.
Checked APN settings and there was proxy entered.
I removed proxy and bam all ok now.

Very slow HSDPA

I am connected to T-Mobile Internet (HSDPA) and I ran a speed test at www.dslreports.com/mspeed but I only got 395kbps, 0.324s latency. Why so slow?
That speedtester is rubbish - I once got 250k on wifi.

can you recommend a better one?
i've just found out that t-mobile doesn't activate HSDPA unless you call up CS and ask them to enable it. some people have been told that you have to be on web n walk pro to have HSDPA whereas others have had it added free of charge.
http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/archive/index.php/t-45508.html
but one thing is still confusing me... the H is displayed at the top of my screen when I use the data connection. and when I click on it it actually says HSDPA. what's going on?
try http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html via your laptop. much better and accurate
if you have the H - then you are def on it. If it was just 3G it would say 3G. But bare in mind that T Mobile HSDPA has been dreadful for nearly a month. It gets so bad that I am considering asking them to release me from contract for violating terms of service. I pay for HSDPA as advertised and I dont get it.
I had web&walk previously and I managed to get full speeds for a while. Once I have reduced my call plan(not data) the speeds were down to 300kbps and less. On these occations, I would still see H as the indication but sure they were capping it on the network.
reopening old thread
I've got H and my provider allows speed up to 7.2/2mbps, but for long time (few months) testing I never get speed higher than about 2.4/0.3 Mbps. I've tested on computers via USB cable and on two different locations both about 500m from antenna.
My provider say that I have all set up correctly and doesn't know why speed is 'so slow'.

Which provider? Mobitel or Si.mobil? I have Mobitel, and it's true, that it isn't always as fast as it should be - in centre of capital city...
My ISP is T2, unlimited for 10€. It's not listed on this forum settings dropdown menu

Nearly everywhere 7.2mbit hspa is a myth - the only way you can get it is if nobody else is using the celltower.
A very reliable speed test application is: http:www.mobilespeedtest.com.
The dsl.reports app (on my HD) provides non accurate results.
The more people using a HSDPA or 3G celltower - the slower your speeds get.
Trust me - I've done all the testing from a corporate perspective - HSDPA 7.2 is a myth - you'll never get that speed - its more like 3.2mb/s MAX!. On 3G the average bandwith is about 300kb/s - but only on a good day.

I'll test and report tonight, when I'm on a good HSDPA signal covarage!
yo compatriot , have you manage to test the speed yet?
With www.mobilespeedtest.com it managed to get 3Mbit downstream in Ljubljana-Vič, haven't tried Centre yet. For normal browsing and download of some small files it's ok. I'll report if I get better bandwidth!
With www.mobilespeedtest.com:
- I get a 2.37 Mbps speed test result on the 3 MB file(biggest) while connected from my mobile to a HSDPA 3.6 network which allows for a max 1.1 Mbps speed.
- I get a 2.4 Mbps speed test result from my computer while connected on a 15 Mbps ADSL - yes - I do 1.7 MBytes/sec transfers all the time - careful at the units of measurement!
- on smaller than 3 MBytes file size, the results are just random
www.mobilespeedtest.com is FAKE
The flow of the web pages has been so severely thrashed by ISP filters its not reliable to real testing anymore.
Stop.Calling.Any.Web page.A.Speed.Test.
Ping flood is designed for real measuring a line speed, but most ISPs have scripts which will ban you automatically if you sent packets faster than with a delay of 0.02 seconds. That is because is too much prone to abuse.

[Q] Cellular Network Settings

Hey guys, I've looked around but nobody seems to have the answer to this question:
I just got my focus unlocked, awesome!, and I'm trying to input the new DATA settings from Telus to be able to use 3G+, but the only settings available are the APN settings. There is no settings for Proxy Server or Port. Will this affect my ability to use 3G+?
The second issue is MMS. There is a topic discussing it, but the instructions provided were not accurate and do not work.
Hope you guys can help me tackled this!
Cheers
There is currently no way to enter configuration information other than the APN.
There are currently only 4 possible solutions to this:
1) Samsung provides support through their Network Profile app (available in the Samsung section of the marketplace on your phone). The problem is this app refuses to run on AT&T phones. So it's currently useless.
2) Microsoft exposes these settings to the user in their next update (supposedly in January sometime - but no details on if this problem will be addressed).
3) Microsoft exposes developer API's to allow changes to these settings (currently no such API's exist).
4) Jailbreak the phone and change the XML file that is used by the operating system to configure these settings.
In the mean time - for Focus users - there is no way to change these settings today.
Thanks for the reply, I'm guessing that without the proxy server and the port, I will not be able to get 3G+, which is why I'm stuck with 3G right now?
It its Telus, that means its a Rogers phone, not AT&T. So the samsung network profile app may work?

Thanks for the reply JM, no it's an AT&T phone. I bought it from the USA.
Hey,
Sorry i didn't really read the OP correctly My original post isn't really relevant to your case. So your phone never shows 3G+ or H when you touch near the top when browsing?
Have you tried a speed test? ( www.mobilespeedtest.com ) If your getting over 2 mbps after several test then i think your HSPA.
i pretty sure samsung focus doesn't support HSPA+

Basically, i've got an Unbranded Rogers Focus (within a week of release had the LG Quantum on release day), was able to unlock it, figure out APN data (kind of, read below), but get no MMS and difficulties with my data connection.
You should read through this Thread a started;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850914
basically, Telus (i.e. Bell towers/network in the east) has an HSPA network only, but since the phone was programmed to work on networks which built up from the original GSM standard, the phone is constantly in "3G" (i.e. EDGE) and when a request for data is sent the phone detects whether there is access to HSPA.
Overall, this can take up to a few moments, however the phone will receive data over "3G network". Since bell/Telus only have HSPA you get no data (since not EDGE) until phone switches on/to HSPA mode (3G+)
Bell has the LG quantum, and works perfectly. Thus, i suspect the "network profile" can be changed to account for the HSPA only network. So when a data request is given, phone automatically switches on/to HSPA mode, without having to detect it first.
This is my hypothesis, i've done quite a bit of research, and while i haven't got a direct confirmation as no one will comment on a competitor network, and Samsung's response is " our phones are designed to work with specific providers" it appears to lead to this conclution.
As far as actually changing the "network profile" it can be done on an LG , HTC apparently has an app to allow customers to do it, but for samsung device, we've got no way to change it right now. yesterday, it was give some publicity by WPcentral.com

GPRS/EDGE is "2G" not "3G".
I just received an update in the marketplace for the Network Diagnosis app but it still doesn't run on AT&T phones.
Hey Reaver, thanks for the link, I didn't see your thread before, I'll keep checking it. As for your hypothesis, I never see a 3G+ or H icon at the top even when it is loading something, what IS REALLY interesting is the following test I made:
I started downloading a 2mb picture, or loaded a website, and as soon as I started that, I went to http://i.dslr.net/iphone_speedtest.html and did a 3G speed test. These are my results:
When device is downloading 2mb picture, download speed was calculated:
- 758 kbps
- 1320 kbps
After downloading picture, download speed was:
- 176 kbps
- 148 kbps
Loading www.gamespot.com, download speed was:
- 924 kbps
- 612 kbps
- 947 kbps
After www.gamespot.com was loaded, download speed was:
- 226 kbps
- 289 kbps
- 88 kbps
- 284 kbps
Now as far as I know, these are high end 3G speeds, not 3G+. Anyone care to elaborate?

I read a thread about something similar to this.
Question: are you using a old SIM card or fairly new one?
It's telus so i suspect it's fairly new
I'm using a new HSPA Sim card, got it last week. It's interesting that you see a 3G+ icon and I don't...hmmm
From http://mobilespeedtest.com without concurrent download:
- 307 kbps
- 462 kbps
- 500 kbps
- 512 kbps
From mobile speed test with concurrent download:
- 186 kbps
- 330 kbps
- 280 kbps
Now this is confusing lol
try 3 rounds of www.mobilespeedtest.com, and post back.
I only see 3G+ when using data, such as browsing or downloading from marketplace. otherwise it's 3G.
Icon or not, ultimatly what it comes down to is the speed of HSPA. The ceiling for bell seems to be around 2.5 Mbps.
Try mobilespeedtest at other location, and not much a few meters away. could just be your location.
Example( avg):
bed room avg 600 Kbps
living room near window 1.3 Mbps
Campus 2Mbps (but i know the towers are just outside)

try using 1MB (you can do it after the first test, under graph) this will give a more realistic picture of the speeds you can actual get at that location

2mb test without concurrent download:
- 2053 kbps
3mb test without concurrent download:

5mb test without concurrent download:

2mb test with 2mb picture download:
- 635 kbps

Probably getting a bit nitpicky but EDGE isn't considered 3G by GSMA which is the authority over such things. EDGE and 3G are two distinct technologies. I don't see a definition for 2G but I've always seen that applied to both GPRS and EDGE.

Technically, isn't GPRS 1G and Edge 2G where G=Generation.

HSPA+ Speeds working on SaskTel.
I have an unlocked Rogers Focus on the SaskTel network. We just rolled out our 3G+ network here.
I had to go into the diagnostics menu and change some settings around RRC Control.
After making the settings change, I was able to download > 6Mbit on HSPA+
Here's what I did:
##634# (diagnostics)
*#32489# - (GSM test) Shows the ciphering status and options to enable or disable it.
Pressed [Back] at the bottom.
[5] RRC(HSPA) Control
[2] Change RRC Revision
[3] Release 6(HSDPA/HSUPA)
[End]
Now I'm fast, wicked fast.
Can't claim it will work for you, but one setting can make all the difference.
I'm new to debug menus so I didn't know how to get direct into the RRC options.
If there's an easier code to get direct to this screen, please let me know.

where is the End button on the dialler in the last step?
also when I press 5 nothing happens. do we have to press 523 on the same screen and then which button to press to enable HSPA+?
edit - got it. I pressed the back button next to my windows key on the phone instead of the small 'back button' on the screen itself. did everything but still only 3G icon. my network has definitely upgraded to HSPA+
btw do you remember what are the default settings anyway for the focus if I want to revert back to original settings for RRC?
RRC
default is:
[2] Release 5 (HSDPA Only)

[Q] A question about H+

Does the N4 show the H+ symbol, somthing racking in my head says that it doesn't have a H+ and only shows H when it is infact on H+
The second question is to any one on EE in the UK, how are your speeds? In my house when am off wifi on my GS3 i could get speeds of aroun 6-9mbs which am pretty sure was on Tmobiles old network as since i put my micro sim into my N4 i haven't been able to anything over 3mb, now i was just wandering was this because i am not connecting to their H+ network since i have not seen the H+ symbol on my phone, or isit just one of those things that i haven't been able to hit the same data rates as before, as i am on H+ its just that stock android doesn't show the H+ symbo?
Thanks for any help anyone can give

Here on T-Mobile, I only get an H, not an H+. I'm pretty sure H is the highest thing it shows, and the H does indeed signify access to their fastest network (HSPA+ 42 Mbps).
I'm pretty sure the GS3 runs on T-Mobile's HSPA+ 21 Mbps network (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). For comparison, the Galaxy Nexus also runs on HSPA+ 21 Mbps (the N4 is HSPA+ 42 Mbps). At the same locations, where I used to get about 6-8 Mbps on my Galaxy Nexus, I get between 16 and 18 Mbps on my N4.

I had a similar issue in that i was getting less than 1 Mbps on AT&T here in the US. I did a little searching and found several posts in these forums on creating an APN specific to AT&T for better speeds. It worked and now I am getting 7-10 Mbps pretty consistently now. Just do some digging on xda and not just in the N4 forums.
hope this helps
The APN settings I am using for ATT (if not mentioned, leave as-is):
Name: AT&T HSPA+
APN: phone
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,agps,supl,fota,dun
For MMS:
Name: Cingular MMS
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wap.cingular.com
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: mms
Your mileage may vary, here. I live in Central PA (Harrisburg) and I've never gotten good data speeds (not even with my Atrix 2 stock, which is rated at HSPA+ 21Mbps).
Edit - These settings get my phone to recognize HSPA+: 15, but data speeds are still poop in this area. I'm gonna switch to T-Mobile.

No problem. I'm on Long Island, NY (if you see that in my profile now, you're not going crazy - I just realized it wasn't included and added it )
Check in About phone > Status > Mobile network type
There it shows what type of network you are currently connected to.
The Nexus 4 won't show H+ in the notification bar. This is a CM feature. You'll see just an H or 3G
Thanks guys for all that took time to post.
I did think that stock android didnt show H+, its nice that its now confirmed.
I looked at my APN settings and they were set to orange, so i thought id check the internet to see if there any just for EE (not the 4g ones) (if anyone is interested you just have to change them to EE Internet and everywhere for the apn settings.
I then checked where i am at work and i was on HSPA 10 - then i saw it on HSPA+15 so am pretty sure everything is as it should be, and set up correctly, i will check when i get home as i know i can get speeds of 6-9mbs in my house, but i did just see 5.5mbs at work (where as early it just wasnt going above 3) so am pretty happy now.
Thanks guys

Can anybody post the T-Mobile APN settings for me as some if my settings like port...is blank

[Q] AT&T APN Help

So I called AT&T this morning to see how my data was provisioned after getting the new SIM for my Nexus 4. I was getting spotty coverage before my re-provision in Tallahassee, FL (a city that is supposed to have HSPA+) and was only seeing HSPA:10 in my phone status screen. I also downloaded the phone info app and ran a ping test...not even a single flash of HSDPA or HSPAP.
Anyway, I called and got my data re-provisioned to an iPhone 5 LTE plan since I bought an iPhone 5 with my last upgrade to unlock and sell overseas. I gave them the IMEI and they successfully moved me to an iPohne 5 LTE plan. Now I knew this wouldn't fixed my problem so I dug through the first 12 pages of this thread. Everything else was garbage anyway lol. I came across this link and added all 5 APNs to my APN list and deleted the one that was there. I did a few speed tests while on the 2nd APN (AT&T HSPA+) and got a maximum of 5.5kbps up and 1.5kbps down. I also re-ran the ping test in the phone info app and saw flashes of HSDPA and HSPAP.
Now on to my question: in my phone status screen I'm only seeing flashes of HSPA+:15 but mostly holding at HSPA:10 and although I'm seeing faster speeds, I'm sure I can see better. Is this normal? Also, I can't connect to any kind of data when I select the 3rd APN, the AT&T LTE one. Is this also normal since I'm not in an LTE market? In my phone info app I have my radio set to WCDMA preferred right now but tried changing it to LTE/CDMA/GSM to see if anything would change on APN 3 but nothing happened.
tl;dr - Are there any APNs I could try or settings I could change to cause more HSPA+:15 data access?
Thanks will be given to any and all helpful responses!

HSPA:15 is the fastest they have right now and it basically means HSPA+. HSPA:10 is standard HSPA and is used when there is no data being transfered to save on battery (which is why your icon switches between 3G and H).
As to why your speeds are slow, I'd be more likely to blame AT&T than the phone/software. They aren't exactly known for providing a lot of real-life bandwidth to their customers.
Thank you very much for your reply. That makes much more sense! I don't know why I didn't consider data band switching to save battery...cause it pops over to HSPA+ whenever I do the ping test (under load).
As long as I know that I've done everything in my power to get the fastest available speeds, I'm happy. Thanks again!!

Ativ-s works on H+ Tmobile for 20-30 min then in the same area goes to EDGE

Hi,
I just got a Ativ-s for Tmobile and its a great phone. But im having some problems. When I first got the phone I put my old sim in it and I got H+ at 15mbs download speed. Then in the same location about 20 min later it goes to edge and never goes back to H+/3g. So I went to tmobile and they gave me a new sim, It worked perfectly for about 20 min then right back down to Edge.
Is this an apn setting or what is going wrong?
Its not my location because I get H+ and 15 mbs download in the same location I get edge.
Any help would be great!
First of all, which Ativ S? There are at least two of them. Mine (SGH-T899M) works fine on T-Mobile US, including the new LTE rollout, except that I have to override the APN or it drops signal when switching between HSPA+ and LTE.
Grab the "APNs" app from Samsung in the marketplace. It installs to the Settings hub. The APN that I use (which works for both HSPA+ and LTE) is "fast.t-mobile.com", no username or password, no proxy, IPv4 only.
It is an i-8750. I downloaded Samsung's APNs and set it up but still nothing. Just for the hell of it I put a new sim card in, I got H+ for about 35 min this time then in the same location it went down to E and hasn't been back.
