Hello,
I am using a non-rooted LG V20, android oreo I believe.
I am having a problem in which the phone randomly loads different "sets" of pictures - sometimes current photos disappear and older pictures reappear, etc.
It's almost as if there are 2 root drives that the phone randomly loads.
If you see the attached screenshot (152508), there are 2 pictures folders of the same name under root/sdcard (Pictures, PICTURES -- I don't understand how there can be 2 folders with the same name so this is strange). When I open either of these folders, it leads to the exact same folder (see the other screenshots.)
Some days when I boot, it will just load an "older" pictures folder w/ hundreds of pictures that I've stored in the past. When that happens, my current/recent picturess will all disappear and the older set is the only thing visible.
For example, right now it shows 14 files in instagram, 3 files in kakaotalk, 0 files in others.
When my older set loads, it will be like 84 files in instagram, 50 files in kakaotalk, with no pictures overlapping from the above.
I can't seem to find the trigger that reliably reproduces loading of either set - although, once I remember the phone was suddenly not reading any pictures from the instagram app so I manually ran the media scanner, when the phone loaded the older set instead.
Anyone have any ideas? This is driving me absolutely nuts.

Anyone have issues with the stock Gallery app. showing blank, blank pictures. The pictures are only there in the app., as when I go to the Files app., only the real pictures exist.
The pictures are just loading slowly...
Naw, all of the real pictures are. These are like a duplicate of every real picture, but blank.
Move finger to delete
Press delete
????
PROFIT!
That's not really a resolution, especially when there are hundreds of pictures.
Playing around with this more, I connected the phone to my laptop, re-arranged the pictures, deleted some old folders. Then, I went back to the gallery on the phone, and it still showed the old folders. It must be caching something, but the app. has no settings really.
Same problem in Samsung Galaxy S i9000
I am facing the same problem in Samsung Galaxy s GT i9000.
Its really annoying.
I can't even delete the duplicate or blank pics.
When I try to delete even 1 pic it shows deleting with busy status and doesn't come out of it.
I didn't have this problem before the froyo update(official release). Just adding this so that it may give a clue.
Eagerly waiting for a solution for this problem.

Hi all,
Short version - copied some images to my device using SyncMe (phone -> laptop, laptop -> Nexus 7), only 4 of roughly 100 images show up in the Gallery for this folder.
Longer version - I had previously set-up automatic sync between my phone and my laptop to sync pictures taken on my phone to the laptop. When I got the Nexus 7, I decided to set up sync to then send these pictures from the laptop to the N7. Files transfer across fine.
The issue is that the Gallery app only displays thumbnails for 4 out of roughly 100 images.
I can open the files via ES File Explorer just fine (even using the Gallery app), and can see all thumbnails with QuickPic.
Have cleared cache & data, rebooted, also tried the Rescan Media app, all to no avail. It has been 2-3 days since the files were copied, so we can say I've tried waiting too.
For completeness - I have rooted and am running stock.
Anyone else suffering from this and/or have any ideas?
Anyone else experiencing this nonsense?
I copied all of my media from the device via WiFi (because it doesn't ****ing show up when you connect via USB!), then reloaded it all back onto the device and now it shows.
That worked for a while, now changes aren't being kept up with.
The mediascanner is really **** on this device, I don't know what's going on or how I can get around it without spending an hour or 3 every week re-synchronising my media files.
Looks like your N7 needs extortion
I recently updated to the newest build of aokp mako and now something is wrong with my media/gallery. None of my old images are showing up from the gallery app -- screenshots, downloads, camera, foursquare, instagram, etc. They all are still in the same folders they used to be (ie, storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera) and they can be viewed from file explorer but not gallery. If I take a new picture or screenshot, it goes to the same folder AND shows up in the gallery now, but not the other pictures still. I have used Rescan Media and other apps like that and it still hasn't done anything.
I'm really confused as to what happened and why. After I updated, all of my pictures were still showing up for a while, then they just randomly went away. Any help is appreciated or a point in the right direction!
H all,
I just plugged my Note 3 into my PC to transfer some WhatsApp pictures. I go to The WA images folder and notice that some (the majority) of photos from recently are missing. Instead there are photos taken weeks ago but they 'newer' dates.
An example.. I have an image called "IMG-20140819-WA0017" but this has the thumbnail of the image I received months ago which is called "IMG-20140628-WA0075". The one dated yesterday will not open either "Windows photo viewer will not open.."
Each time I refresh the folder on Windows I can have different results, images will hide/show, older images will show up again.. its a massive mess.
I just got sent a picture of a car. The folder thumbnail on my PC is the car. I go into "resources" under properties on the image and it says "Thumbnail" and the image isn't a car. I open the picture, it loads and shows the wrong image ??
I hope this makes some sense.. has anyone experienced something similar before?
Hi All,
I am experiencing a media scanning issue with (only) a specific app (so far) - 9gag.
Whenever I download an image from their feed with the dedicated 'save' button, it will save it onto my internal storage (can't change the location of that, just like you can't change it for whatsapp), but it won't show up in my gallery.
When I try to open the imaeg in the file explorer, it says 'scanning media files... try again after scan is completed' - however, no matter how long I wait, I can't open it and it never becomes visible in the gallery.
I tried following things so far:
- reboot: it works, every time I reboot, all files are scanned and in the gallery, however, if I save further images, the new ones won't show up until I reboot again
- stop media scanning service and clear data: no effect
- rename folder: no effect
- rename image file: this works, it shows up in gallery
- copy/move onto sd card: this works too, it shows up in gallery
As you can see, there ARE ways I can make the images visible, but none of them is a sustainable way. I can't reboot or rename after each image I save, that's madness.
Oh and btw, all other apps do work, for example if I save files through screenshots, downloads, Facebook, Line or WeChat, the phone does create a folder in the same way it does for 9gag and the media inside is visible in the gallery with no problems, so it is very likely app specific? I also reached out to 9gag already but i don't think they will reply...
Any ideas or comments (please refrain from anti-9gag comments like I received in reddit lol)?
Have you tried a different file explorer to see if you can view/move the file?
I've moved away from ES file explorer cause not a fan of their layout. I use Root Explorer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en
It allows for you to have two directories side by side (I use it to have internal and SD card) so that I can move files easily between the two.

Thank you, I have tried this app before, but with my old G2. Will try, but I'm wondering if that app has any effect on the media scanning process itself...
I have the same problem. The first photo i saved from 9gag showed up fine, after that, none of the other photos that I saved would show up. I didn't know about the restarting the phone part, to get photos to show up in the gallery. The only way i found to get the photos to show up is to download the app, ScanMediaPlz. After I save a few photos, I tap on the app, and the photos will appear in google photos. best way to get them to show up without have to restart the phone or rename the files. Hopefully it can get fixed later on so they show up right away in Google Photos after we saved them...
One more thing that i hate is that on Google Photos, it doesn't create a Facebook download folder. All photos saved from FB save to the camera folder. In the gallery app that i download it has its own dedicated FB folder with the photos I have saved.
