Hi all,
Short version - copied some images to my device using SyncMe (phone -> laptop, laptop -> Nexus 7), only 4 of roughly 100 images show up in the Gallery for this folder.
Longer version - I had previously set-up automatic sync between my phone and my laptop to sync pictures taken on my phone to the laptop. When I got the Nexus 7, I decided to set up sync to then send these pictures from the laptop to the N7. Files transfer across fine.
The issue is that the Gallery app only displays thumbnails for 4 out of roughly 100 images.
I can open the files via ES File Explorer just fine (even using the Gallery app), and can see all thumbnails with QuickPic.
Have cleared cache & data, rebooted, also tried the Rescan Media app, all to no avail. It has been 2-3 days since the files were copied, so we can say I've tried waiting too.
For completeness - I have rooted and am running stock.
Anyone else suffering from this and/or have any ideas?
Anyone else experiencing this nonsense?
I copied all of my media from the device via WiFi (because it doesn't ****ing show up when you connect via USB!), then reloaded it all back onto the device and now it shows.
That worked for a while, now changes aren't being kept up with.
The mediascanner is really **** on this device, I don't know what's going on or how I can get around it without spending an hour or 3 every week re-synchronising my media files.
Looks like your N7 needs extortion

Hi all.
I got an Experia X10i and just a few days ago i got a message that there was an update available.
I agreed to download/update and everything was fine.
But since yesterday my pictures deletes itself?!
All my pictures in /sdcard/DCIM/100ANDRO were visible and i scrolled and viewed some of them at work last night.
But today - only my 4 latest (taken last night) pictures were there (also visible in mediascape)
I did a restart and now those four are gone to!!
Download-folder and music-folder are still intact and the phone works like a charm besides it deleting my pictures.
I got a swedish X10i
1.6
1.1.27
Kernel version 2.6.29-rel [email protected] #2
Please can anyone help me with this problem?
Why are my files getting deleted?
thanx in advance
Jonny Westin
Update:
While typing here via PC my /sdcard/video is deleting itself and also files in the two subfolders.
Can the .nomedia-file cause deletion of files?
In the video-folder i got one of those - but not in the DCIM-folder.
are any syncing software which copies files to pc and deletes it from sd?
or any upload service like picasa/facebook which setting to delete file from sd after the upload
Didn't even think of that...
But that was not the case.
Nothing has been uploaded to Facebook and I got no picasa-account. And nothing uploaded to Google Docs.
Didn't connect to PC until just now so sync is not the case either.
I'm really confused?!
No status-indication whatsoever that anything has been uploaded.
I even installed an anti-virusapp but everything was ok.
Edit Even did a virus check via my PC at work - but all is ok in that matter.
Connected to usb to browse via PC but no files found in my DCIM except those thumbdata-files..

Too bad.

However - i still love my stupid, stupid phone - but wise from experience i now know that I can't keep files on my phone.
Will have to get it as a part of my day to backup photos.
There was some houndred pics of my kids that now is lost.
Stupid stupid me who didn't make a backup!!
Useles piece of crap-phone.
(but it is still a lovely toy)
Well thanks for your reply.
I will however try to mount the sdcard in windows and try some undelete-apps.
What can be reason of it? I've not faced such issue but still scared now :-/
Yes, .nomedia will delete files...
it's a stupid bug if not used properly... if you added a .nomedia file after updating your device, any old files will be deleted when the media scanner re-searches the device, and anything added after the .nomedia file was added will be safe.

Mind you, while there are issues with .nomedia, this might not necessarily be your issue.
Edit:
BTW - if you are going to try to recover files, you'll need a proper file recovery program (like BadCopy Pro) - you won't be able to undelete stuff like you normally would using your recycle bin... Of course, you probably already know this, but others reading the thread might not...
Hi there, I really need your help!
Whilst setting up an owncloud server and messing with the app on my phone it had somehow created a duplicate camera folder. Now instead of looking in that folder to check photos (they both said they had the same number in) I just took another picture, checked what folder went up in value and deleted the other, STUPIDLY!
So as you can guess, 90% of my photos and vids were in the folder I deleted. I've tried all ways to get the nexus 4 mounted as a drive but to no avail. I used a piece of software called Dr.Fone and it did actually see all the missing photos but upon restoring them most were screwed when you actually wanted to open them (thumbnails were fine) or the resolution/file size was not the same as the original.
Now, if I browse my phone and go to my camera folder I can see EVERY file in there, 10GB worth and all the right file sizes etc. My phone says I have 12gb free space so something is obviously up. I can't seem to copy these over or view them either. Again if I got in to the photos app I can see 95% of the thumbnails fine but they just won't open.
Does anyone have any ideas if or how I can get these photos back as there are lots of my young daughter on there including her 1st birthday party
Quite ironic really that it was the setting up of the backup solution for ours phone that led to this!!!!!!
TIA
Do not take anymore pictures or add anymore files to the disk or you will further corrupt it and overwrite the old ones.

Hi All,
Took part in a 17 mile run and took a bunch of photos. Even posted one of the photos on Instagram. I ran with the phone in a belt pouch with Runkeeper and Strava running. At the end of the run, I found a whole bunch of apps open and swiped them closed(this has happened in the past due to the phone being bounced/rubbed around while running. Runkeeper and Stava worked fine and saved my run. When I went to check my photos that I had taken, they were all gone from Google Photos and my Camera gallery except in Google Photos, the IG photo was saved.
What happened? And is there any way of recovering them? I disabled sync and have not turned on the wifi on the phone to prevent the phone from overwriting anything that may still be in memory. The phone is unrooted. I have tried Wondershare Dr.Fone for ?Androiid with no success and it suggests to root the phone. I really would like to recover these photos if possibly.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Anyway to get the Nexus 6P to show as a drive? Most of the recovery programs are looking for drives and only my C: (hard drive is showing) though my 6P is connected by USB MTP.
fwiw - I noticed using Windows Explorer in the DCIM/Camera foldder there are some photos(look like just thumbnails based on size) from yesterday but when viewing them, they are actually thumbnails/pics from Friday though the date stamp was 2/27. Wonder if things are also corrupted.
Remembered that Android does not allow to be recognized as a USB Mass Storage Device. I found this program that allows you to map a MTP device as a Virtual Drive - http://www.mtpdrive.com/download.html
So far, Programs do not recognize the drive but Windows Explorer does.
It won't help you with this situation, but Dumpster is a fantastic app to protect yourself going forward.
^this!
Thanks, will install later on. Actually, I noticed a number of photos that I took the night before are missing from the camera gallery also but those were uploaded to Google photos.
Still don't understand how photos could have been deleted.
I searched all those essential forums but did not find a solution. I tried to back up some pictures I have taken to the PC. The phone is recognized and I can find the folder on the phone where the pictures are stored. But in there, there are only a few pitcures and even folders are missing. If I check on the phone in the gallery app, everything's there as I expect it. How can that happen
I have connected the phone to all 3 USB ports of my win10 notebook and tried 2 different usb cabels. Allways the same...
maybe these pictures are synced with google and are shown from the cloud.
they are definitely on the phone. When I check with a file explorer on the phone, the folders are full of pictures.
Try syncthing

Check for a nomedia file.
If your phone sees a .nomedia file in a folder, it won’t load the folder’s contents when it scans your directory.
file explorers can see them
You may have to go to the respective Folders where images / videos are stored and Go to settings > Show hidden file to see the .nomedia file
thanks, but I don't think this the problem. I see all pictures whether I check with fotos app or f-stop gallery. If there was a .nomedia file, I couldn't see the pictures there, right?
Only on the pc I don't see the pictures on the connected phone.
I get the same problem only its not just pictures. Entire folders just don't show up. There's no nomedia files either. I get it to work occasionally by changing USB ports but that doesn't always work.
Yesterday I got all pictures backuped onto my pc. But it's kind of weird, I still don't get it, why
I have now 2 working methods but the "normal" way, with a running phone an copy paste with windows explorer from my pc still doesn't work.
method 1: basically the same as my "normal" way, but having the phone in recovery mode. Then all pictures and folders are present...
method 2: using syncthing. Great app, thanks for the tip! This one's working great even though the phone is running. Took some time to setup everything, but now it does its job
Hello,
I am using a non-rooted LG V20, android oreo I believe.
I am having a problem in which the phone randomly loads different "sets" of pictures - sometimes current photos disappear and older pictures reappear, etc.
It's almost as if there are 2 root drives that the phone randomly loads.
If you see the attached screenshot (152508), there are 2 pictures folders of the same name under root/sdcard (Pictures, PICTURES -- I don't understand how there can be 2 folders with the same name so this is strange). When I open either of these folders, it leads to the exact same folder (see the other screenshots.)
Some days when I boot, it will just load an "older" pictures folder w/ hundreds of pictures that I've stored in the past. When that happens, my current/recent picturess will all disappear and the older set is the only thing visible.
For example, right now it shows 14 files in instagram, 3 files in kakaotalk, 0 files in others.
When my older set loads, it will be like 84 files in instagram, 50 files in kakaotalk, with no pictures overlapping from the above.
I can't seem to find the trigger that reliably reproduces loading of either set - although, once I remember the phone was suddenly not reading any pictures from the instagram app so I manually ran the media scanner, when the phone loaded the older set instead.
Anyone have any ideas? This is driving me absolutely nuts.
