I keep getting a notification that states "Spotify connecting", I do not know to what but it keeps coming back every 5 to 10 minutes. This happens with wi-fi on or off, bluetooth on or off. Spotify is not running or in the background so I have no idea why this is happening, looking for some ideas. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, cleared cache, restarted the phone and yet it keeps happening.
I can second this. It's only happened twice and both times I opened Spotify and then cleared from recents. Goes away but annoying.
I believe this has to do with connecting Spotify with Google Maps. I was getting a lot of toasts that read the same when trying to set it up. Once I finally got them connected and talking to each other, the toasts stopped.

How did you get Google maps and Spotify talking to each other? I've never set them up together and haven't seen that option.

In Maps, go to settings, navigation, show media controls. It will ask you to choose your default app. Then when you navigate, there is a media button in the top right to toggle the controls.

I had it connected to Waze but never to Maps. Thanks for the heads up.
As for the OP question, yes I saw it once. I hid the notification and then allowed notification again and it never showed again. I did see the message you mention though once. We'll see how it goes with Maps connected to it.
It shows when connecting to a Bluetooth device. As far as I know, that's when that notification pops up and it's annoying as hell.

After another day with the phone, I've come to the same conclusion. I notice it every time I connect to my car Bluetooth. It goes away after a minute or so, so not sure what it is.
Very strange - I just started getting this notification when I connect my Nexus 6P via BT to my Sony 1000MX2 headphones.
Connected it with Google maps and it's still happening on my phone. Also when not connected to a Bluetooth device
I think if you toggle off Notifications > Spotify > "External applications" it will stop these notifications. Still begs the question of why Spotify is 'connecting' before the user chooses the app. If I BT connect to my headphones to listing to Pocketcasts or Play Music etc. I don't need Spotify connecting.
It seems to have to do with the autoplay feature of the OnePlus 6T, when you connect a Bluetooth device it tries to autostart the app and begin playing media.

Again, I started getting this notification on a Nexus 6P after updating to current Spotify v8.4.78.530, so this isn't just a OnePlus feature issue.

Anyone else experiencing an issue with the default music player app? Mine stops playing after the screen cuts off. I've got it ignored in task manager. Any ideas what could be causing this?

In addition, I found that leaving my phone sitting in the passenger seat while playing music can make it randomly skip songs. I don't mean to the next song, I mean to the middle of a random song. And when it finishes, it hops back to where it hopped from.
I am having this issue as well. App is ignored in task manager but music stops playing a minute or so after the screen goes to sleep. It's really getting annoying. Thank you in advance for your help.
Ryan
I thought there might have been some interfering auto killed app, so I unchecked all of them and proceeded to block half each time to find the problem. 0 apps blocked, music worked after screen went off. Half blocked, music still worked. 3/4 blocked, music still works. 7/8 blocked, music still works. Block everything I intended to be blocked the first time around, music still works.
Yeah, I have no freakin idea why my music stopped after playing with the blocking, but it solved itself somehow. Just try soft reset, give it some time.
I also have the same issue. It doesn't appear to happen when I let the screen lock itself, only when I manually hit lock.

After messing with differnt apps being auto ended, I discovered that the gallery app has something to do with the music player. When I removed the gallery app from the auto end list, the problem went away. When I readded it, it came back. Someone else will probably want to check this but it worked for me
What I did is:
Remove music app from the app killer
Go into- manage apps/music player/force close/clear data
Songs will be deleted
Put the songs back, but put them in the- playlist folder
hope it helps.
I think this may be a no hassle temporary solution.
If your music keeps stopping:
Set your timeout to never, manual lock, unlock, set timeout to your normal setting.
So far, I've only tried letting it timeout on its own, but the music doesn't stop anymore.
Is the music on your SD card or internal memory?
It's on the onboard memory.
it is a system bug
and a third party player can fix it.
i use MIUI player and didnt have that problem
i have my music on both internal and sd card storage... and this keeps happening..
anyone using a different music player? I'd like to find the one used in CM. (any idea where that one can be had?)
I tried Meridian, but the error happened to me once. My quick fix seemed to work still.

I don't have this problem and I can manually or automatically lock without the the music gets interrupted. I don't use any taskkiller? There is no reason to use one in Froyo and not on this powerful phone.
i tried every method you guys have here and theres no luck =[ i hate this i might just take the phone back but apparently is a problem with the OS its self i might just buy and ipod touch
Turns out the task manager was the problem for me. Even though no music applications were on the autokill list, it still killed my music. try removing everything from any task manager or task killer. I'm back to enjoying my phone again.
ramensama: don't be so quick about that.
Sometimes, unlocking and locking the phone is enough to stop it from stopping.
y i got a question not sure its the right thread but.. i have a pair of earbuds with remote and volume and answer keys which does not seem to work on my atrix.. is there anyway to make those keys work.. cause when some one calls it doesnt use the built in mic... i think... anyone having the similar issue?

This has been a flaw in android since day one. You can't get actual notification sounds over BT. It is rumored to be running in 4.2. Is there truth to this? I'm still waiting for them to be available to get mine... but curious still.
just tested this and it is working for notifications. Although if it is a short notification sound, and it plays only once, it will not come through due to a slight delay between the phone and bluetooth device (but I can hear the headset turning on as if to play something and then turns back off). Works fine for longer notifications.
I get notification sounds over bluetooth when its connected in my car, always have even with ics.
I get notification over my Bluetooth headphones. No problem here.
Tho notification tend to stop my power amp player for some odd reason....

This is true you can hear notifications if they are long enough although the first second gets cut off due to lag i think...... but this is not the issue we were discussing on the google forum. CANT POST LINK SORRY............
The issue was that we cant hear our custom ringtones thru Bluetooth. I have the Galaxy Note and a Motorola HX550 and i can get all voice commands, and even hear notifications, and hear it read my text messages to me, but i cant tell whos calling when my phone is in my pocket on vibrate. I want to hear custom ringtones thru my bluetooth so i can tell whos calling. And i believe the same issue is with car bluetooth from what i read in the forum on google this forum started in 2009 about this no ringtone thru bluetooth, and there are still no fixes or apps that can let us decide what sounds go where.
For example it would be nice to have an app with check boxes available to make ringtones go to bluetooth, and notifications be muted, music go thru headfone jack, etc... This is a long time comming just read the forum and look at the start date 2009..... 4 years and noone fixed this issue.
XDA please help us even if its just a quick someting to get the ringtone to go thru bluetooth.... PLEASE someone!!! :crying:
That link you mentioned you can't post is the one in my sig.
Yeah posted that back in 09.... Recently some one official took "owner ship" of the thread and said it was fixed. However it isn't. Flip phones that existed before the smart phone era were able to play custom bluetooth sounds. Yet the most advanced phone to date can't.....
Yes.. At time my nexus simply loses its notification sounds.
Media sounds still works just the notifying sound disappears.
And after a reboot it works fine.
Its the 3rd time I've faced such bug.
Has anyone else faced such bug ?

I switched back to the stock messaging app today and so far it hasn't missed any notification sounds. It may have something to do with 3rd party apps not being optimized for marshmallow. I'm going to try and turn off battery optimization on my preferred messaging app and see if that helps.

For me it seems to be only 3rd party apps. Stock apps are coming through fine.
not sure if this will work for anyone else, but twice now i have had my notifications and alarms silenced. i figured out that both times it was after connecting to a bluetooth decice (once a speaker and once a ear bud) - even though i turned bluetooth off, and it showed as off, it was still trying to send the sounds to the bluetooth device. i turned bluetooth on and then off again and sounds worked.
I have the same issue, and I can confirm that it is bluetooth related for me as well. It seems to happen every time I connect with my car or my bluetooth earphones. I'd have to then turn off/on bluetooth or reboot to start getting audio for alarms and notifications.
FWIW, this doesn't seem to be the only bluetooth issue with this phone(or maybe Android M). I also have an issue with bluetooth causing wakelocks and preventing doze from kicking in (there's a thread on that as well).
I have the same issue and I think mine is related to bluetooth as well. After I started using a smartwatch that syncs with the phone via bluetooth, I started having the issue. Alarms, phone calls, messages etc don't lose sound. I have to turn the phone off and back on in order for notifications to work again. At times, sound from the keyboard of media works, but not notifications. At times media doesn't have any sound neither. I don't know if it's the Nexus 6P's problem or Android M's but this blows.
I'm having same issue but I don't use Bluetooth. Randomly lose all notification sounds. All stock apps, even ringtone and key sounds. Rebooting phone resolves it. But just now it's happened again, I then went into settings, sounds, and turned key sounds off then on again and bingo, all notification sounds are back to normal.

Same thing for me. I couldn't even go into system settings to modify the sound. It just hangs and eventually crashes. A reboot always fixes it. I did use bluetooth. Any notifications with vibration still vibrates though. Not rooted, or running exposed.
Just a quick update from my post earlier. Since I posted regarding my same issue I have since disabled the nexus imprint lock screen, which I had setup to unlock my phone, and a day has passed and all is good. Maybe a coincidence, I don't know but I've got all my notifications working as they should be.

Update to my complaint, it still fails after sometime even when I don't use bluetooth.
Attached screenshot indicates it's related to the media storage permissions maybe?
This is pretty bad since I won't hear my calls or any other notifications!

Same here. At first I thought it was related to bluetooth but after disabling bluetooth and rebooting the phone, getting notifications and the losing them again, I can say that the issue doesn't seem to be related to bluetooth.
I've missed alarms and of course calls and messages. This blows!
I've had my Mi A1 for over a year now and have almost always had it on vibrate, so all calls/notifications cause the phone to vibrate, but any media that gets played will be at the volume set for media.
Over the past couple of weeks though, notifications (not sure about calls, don't get many of them) will play the notification sound at the volume set for media. I can only get them to shut off if I mute the media volume. I've tried changing the volume for both media and ringing, and restarting the device, but to no avail. I either have to leave it muted and miss notifications, or leave it unmuted and get a jumpscare each time (it also plays notifications when I'm on a call, and you can imagine the jumpscare I get with my phone at my ear and a sudden loud notification).
I recently started using Bose QC35 ii headphones through Bluetooth with my phone, but I don't think that has anything to do with it because it was working fine with them before.
I've searched Google for this kind of issue but couldn't find anything other than standard instructions on adjusting the volume. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this (without doing a full reset of the phone, hopefully)?
EDIT: this is a stock ROM, I've never flashed anything new on it

So I solved this by going into Settings > Accessibility > Vibration and turning Ring & notification vibration off, restarting, and then on again. I was able to use the Pushy app to send test notifications so that I didn't have to wait for a friend to send me a message or something of the sort. My vibration mode now works as intended (not sure about calls, I don't know how I can test those without having a friend call me), and loud notifications according to the volume set for the ringer.
So as it turns out, today I once again got sound notifications, despite having set my phone to vibrate only. What could be resetting the sound profile like this (note that the ringer volume is still at zero) that the notifications play sound at the media volume? Anyone have any idea on this?

Why not just set them individually, it won't take long, when I first got my A1 I did just this.
Each time I got a notification I just pulled down and pressed the notification and customised it, most I turned off, the rest I either set to vibrate, a custom sound or left as it was.
Calls are easy to take care of, set ring volume to zero and it only vibrates.
For me:
I want a sound when I get a SMS.
I want a custom sound when I get a call.
I want no notification of gmail, (it would be going off constantly)
I only want Vibrate from WhatsApp messages.
Can't think of others but I think everything else is silenced.
If that is no good try "Volume butler" which will add a seperate volume control for notifications, not used it myself but it should do the trick: https://www.guidingtech.com/separate-ringtone-notification-volume-android/

The only downside of doing them individually is that I can't turn them all back on with one setting, as on some infrequent occasions I do want to hear them because I be expecting a message and not necessarily feel the phone in my pocket. and it seems I have to wait for the actual notification to come up? (can't seem to find the setting under the standard notifications settings menu).
I'll have a look at Volume butler, but it sure is disappointing that this would break when it was a nice feature to use.

You're welcome, and seems that possibly if you unpair your BT device and reboot, you could get your notifications back to normal, but then you don't have your headset available...
Since the issue started outside of a system update, there is a chance it was introduced by a Google App or Play Services update, in which case hopefully Google will fix it soon since it's affecting a lot the Pixel phones.

Ah, I forgot to mention that I have a workaround for this that I came across in one of the dicussions somewhere. Inside Settings > Google > Search, Assistant & Voice > Notifications I can turn off notifications for Google completely. I've also turned off Google Assistant under Settings > Google > Search, Assistant & Voice > Google Assistant. I don't remember which of those actually resulted in the behavior not returning, but I'm pretty sure I don't need either, so I'm OK with it for now. (actually, do Google Security notifications come under the Google app or some other one?)
PS: reboot is actually not necessary, it seems force stopping Google Assistant or Google resets the notification settings (but yes, I want my headset hahaha).
Seems it's been fixed by Google: https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/...s-with-duplicate-alerts-and-ignored-settings/

Hello,
My new pixel 4xl is working great except for 2 reasons. The main one being I don't get turn by turn voice navigation. I get no voice at all when navigating. COnsidering I drive for Uber on the side this is very bad.
I checked all settings and they are all correct as far as I can tell - play over bluetooth and everything is on. Doesn't matter if I am on BT or not, nothing. I've tried rebooting of course.
Second smaller issue is no audio sound goes off when What's App messages come through. I've checked all those settings in Apps & NOtifications and they all look good. What gives?

Try opening the Android Auto app. on your phone & check 'Driving Mode' is not selected to 'Do Not Disturb'. I had a similar problem where my Music app was not showing up & turn by turn voice navigation was muted.
After changing this setting AA now appears to work as it should. Sounds like you might have the same problem. Anyway, worth a try. Good luck [emoji106]

Do you have captions enabled when there is voice? This may do closed captioning while silencing the volume until you adjust the volume.
Someone in the 4xl mentioned a similar issue. I think they worked out that they were on the maps beta. Coming out of that resolved the issue.
