Do NOT buy anymore FireTV products... - Fire TV General

It is being gimped. I cannot wait until I can ditch this for a regular Android box. Do yourself a favor, pickup ANY android tv device on Amazon but this. What a piece of crap.
I am going to post videos on youtube of 1 device being completely desoldered and smashed, then a secret 2nd one im just going to break with my hands.
This thing is a piece of **** and two have now overheated and\or had networking problems. Seriously ANYTHING....ANYTHING is better than these pieces of Sh*t.
Last post I will ever make in this section so good luck, but you can spend TWENTY BUCKS on ANYTHING that will work better. I had a phone working better before this piece of ****.

fire tv 2, the grunt that keeps on grunting.
this must be the stick 2? Ive heard of overheating probs, seen a few put heat sinks on and fixed the prob.
$20, got it on the refurb sale a few weeks ago? personally I think at the price it was a better deal than most android boxes/sticks with equal power - don't some of those china boxes have drm problems with Netflix n crap(don't own one, don't know)?

Gee. You don't need to sugarcoat it. Tell us how you really feel

What a useless thread. Go ***** somewhere else, eh?

Never had any problems with one of these devices. Maybe youre not able to handle them the right way

Dude, we can tell you're sugarcoating your secret love affair with firesticks.

I recently got myself the 4k firestick
BEST PURCHASE EVER

Ok since the post until now, I have used tools, I have analyzed channels with actual wifi spectrum analyzers. No matter what I did I had problems. Even with these tools (seperate physical tools meant for this) I could see normal activity on the channels I used (and channels i didnt use, but I already did this with my router)... For reference I use Comcast ( ) but I download at 15-20 megabytes per second. Its fast AF.
For ****s and giggle I unplugged my Fire Stick remote. HD again. No hiccups. No SD downgrade. Nothing. THIS FIXED IT EVEN NOW. PC BACK ON. PHONE BACK ON. No changes in anything ive made it far beyond anything before. Its almost like one of the more recent firmwares caused this becuase I never did anything, but I decided to update the software becuase Ill just get a cheap android tv box.
I turned my phone off. My computer off. Firetv was the ONLY thing connected and I still had problems. This is on 2.4 or 5ghz. edit: only turning the remote off was a verified total fix.
Sorry for this post, but something is not right. I can turn my remote back on and problems come right back.
To be clear, this is the remote that came with the device.
edit
18 minutes later. No problems yet still. Phone and PC have been back on since last update. No interference and Im on 2.4ghz. Would have had random pauses with Comcast app and remote on.
IMO: Amazon has done something in their last firmware updates to cause this. Gonna try going back to 5ghz tomorrow, just use CEC.

Concerning Problem already showing up

I have a vanilla build, all updates, no exchange.
Took the EVO out of my pocket today, tried to unlock it and touchscreen wasn't responding...turned the screen off and tried to turn it back on but it wouldn't. Ended up having to pop the battery and replace it.
That doesn't impress me for a two day old device.

How often has it happened? This happens occasionally in a lot of devices. One of the first things most people do when troubleshooting laptops, for example, it to unplug it and remove the battery. Sometimes, a power setting get's bugged. Heck, I've seen it happen on an iPhone, which is a reall B to get taken care of if you like your warranty.
This story reminds me of people who bought a Ferrari and because they paid over 200K they didn't expect it to have brakes that squealed or have anything break on it for the lifetime of the car.
It happens. If it is repeated then its another story. But if you had to pull the battery once in every 100 uses would it be too much?
I had to replaced 4 Iphones within 2 months and lost my current data because the thing locked up. Once it happened as I was leaving the store before I had the change to even mess with it. It locked up and would not reset.
I hope that its an isolated problem with the phone and if not just get a new one.

I was a windows mobile user for years...theses kind of issues were almost expected. I then got an iphone...and found out you dont have to deal with theses issues. It always worked (the phone anyway, network is another issue) I think it maybe froze once while I owned it...and it was jailbroke with backgrounding apps running.
I don't think it's wrong to expect the same from an HTC Android device... I rely on this thing, it's not a toy...it shouldn't behave like one.
Maybe I'm a little gun shy, as my last HTC device was a nightmare (HTC Touch) went through 9 devices until I left sprint all together.
Then you got a good IPHONE. I so happened to have 4 bad ones. I expect my phone to work. The EVO and the INCREDIBLE has worked from day one.
I have been around Windows Phones for a long time as well. I don't expect it to lock up but it does.
I have come to expect that THERE ARE NO MANUFACTURERS that create 100% working out of the box phones.
Wow!
I am surprised anyone is having any SERIOUS issues.
1. Iphone 3G
2. HTC HD2
3. Now the EVO
This was my most recent line up. The iphone 3g was a great device. GREAT. Just like the first car when people were used to walking. Innovative device severely limited and relatively stable. The HD2 is a major junk pile. I hacked it, flashed it, and tried to make it work. The EVO is beautiful and leaps above both of the above. I won't bother you all with my drivel, but the ONLY problem I have (except wanting to sleep less to mess with it) is the headphone jack thinking I am plugging in a headset (mic) and going completely apes%$t. The voice dialing went nuts. The music players would skip over and over again. Then I searched the droid forums and saw the:
HEADSET BLOCKER WIDGET.
Remember this, because I am sure this problem in particular was not limited to my phone as it has been reported on a number of HTC devices. Who uses those silly corded headsets anymore???? Um.....BLUETOOTH.
Good luck to those of you with problems. I absolutely worship the EVO so far. Its nearly seamless to this point.

I was out to dinner with my friend who owns a iPhone. He said the only complaint he had was that his iPhone freezes up on him. I told him all computers are prone to that. Even my daughter's iPod freezes. The main problem with the iPhone is the battery cannot be removed to reset the entire circuitry. At least with HTC products, the battery can be removed to reset. If the iPhone's reset-circuit becomes corrupted, the battery WILL have to be removed to reset it. What a bummer. My Evo has not had even one problem.
I had a similar issue to the original poster, but it doesn't just happen on the lockscreen is is prevelant through the entire phone.
My issue is that the top half of the touchscreen seems to become "dead" and does not accept input for anywhere from 5 seconds to 20 seconds. Pulling the battery helps but this is starting to happen frequently enough in many different places of the OS and apps that i don't think it is a software issue.
My local store is out of stock and will call then they get more in stock to replace, but at this point I'll have to deal with it and see how often it comes up.

All around Development update for Better Than Life Products 7/28

7/28/11
Ok, figured I'd just make 1 post for everything right now, it's easier on me this way.
Had surgery yesterday to re-attach tendon and fix joint damage in left arm, right arm is this coming monday.
Pain level is OMG, that stupid ass 1-10 scale they use, well i'm off the chart. Got no sleep last night, kept banging or moving my arm wrong. I can't move my left arm at all.
Development.....
Products and progress....
Better Than Life Roms,
Psirens
I have a RC3/Gold ready to release I think, at least I remember, or think i remember. I used it for a few days and I had no issues, I will have to locate it on my file server when i can.
Cassandra
I slapped together a DJ11 with Touchwiz 4.5 (kosh's) and had uploaded to The Android Door, forgot to post it here. That is in a Nandroid format, and probably the only release.
Future Echos
Still playing with the Gingerbread from the Sprint release. It works, and I have used it, however until Dan, Koudaxi and I finally get that Damn Kernel situated, I can't do a backup and test flashing, etc.
Better Than Life Kernels,
Kryton
The Gingerbread Kernel......wow, nightmare, currently it works, no errors, flashes zips, wipes, formats, advanced things, generally works, and works well. However the EXT4 bull-crap is the issue. I cant flash Future Echos and expect it to run as no matter how many times I try to get (I assume that its working) the partitions formatted EXT4, I have no real way of knowing if it is the Rom I built (Future Echos) or if I am actually having Kernel Issues. So Dan has enlisted a genius in helping us with the modules and the one main issue I had originally....a damn spelling error that would have been to hard to manually fix, so Koudaxi created a repair script to fix our source files....and it did work, I can pump out a new kernel with various changes for testing every 60 seconds. And I currently have 20 test kernels ready to go.
Those test kernels are not releasable, I did brick one of my tabs, but thats why i have more than one.
I am working on......man you guys are going to love this......seriously......
I am working on "buying" the Verizon Gingerbread "Leak" yes, I located it, yes I know who has it via a very helpful and dedicated person. Names are never going to be released, however I am waiting to pay utilities and other important's like food for the kids, diapers, etc before i can fork out a few hundred on a leak to snatch up. as it is I went from almost 2K a week from my job to a crummy 300.00 so its....well its rough, Im still waiting for "change" lol.
I now have a request if possible, strange, yet honestly, this could help me get work down while i have down time at hospital/recovering.
My Developing computer is a desktop, and i cant sit at the computer at all.
I do have a first gen Macbook, core duo, Model A1181. old, but in my opinion runs Linux just fine. However, I need some parts so I can use it in bed, or at hospital, and I dont have the money so I figured i'd try to track down some used parts, this is what I need,
Right Hinge assembly, just the metal hinge.
Keyboard. My space bar is busted, and F8 key missing
Battery, my battery expanded and failed last year, Apple told me to piss off, so I yanked out the cable that attaches to the mobo and battery, tossed battery, and had to super glue the magsafe to laptop just to make sure it doesnt get pulled when used.
Those 3 items, could get me 100% mobile. I know new laptops are cheap nowadays, but i see it as a laptop that runs all 3 OS's without problem, so to me its worth keeping, besides, the lid was autographed by a few bands when my wife and I filmed concerts.
If anyone has extra parts laying around, can you email me and maybe we can work something out?
So, this is what I need to do for the next 10 days,
Rest
Rest
Not Move and Rest.
What I am going to do.....
Be a butthead and probably try to work, however Dan is busting my balls about getting rest as I didn't and I ended up tearing my tendon within a week of the first surgery.
So I have some help from Dan, and my wife when she comes home, but that limits me to roughly an hour each day i can sit at the desk as I need to stay in bed and not move my arm and also rest my back. So I feel pretty damn guilty I cant get some stuff out. I thought about giving dan remote access to my computer, but I am a security freak.
Anyway, email me, ill have my tab laying next to me and can at least check emails, just to hard to type stuff out on it.

Why i end up with the shield

this thread is gonna be about why i decided to buy nvidia shield.
but i'm not really a pro about this, so don't see this as a good info source
i'm actually not even sure if what i heard is correct, so if i'm wrong on anything, or know of a better choice, please do correct me
and thanks for reading
so i've been wanting a portable device since my last phone (droid incredible 2) sunk miserably into the washing machine
i don't really want a phone, because no one ever calls me (there are a lot of reasons i don't want a phone, this is just one of them)
so i turned onto tablets which brings me to the nexus 7 because it's in my budget of 300$
but there are a few minor things
i need a sd card slot, and a hdmi port, which both nexus 7 don't have
but since there aren't much portable (in which i mean less then 7 inches) devices that supports an hdmi port, i just decided to ignore that
which brings me to the nexus 4, which is a lot more portable which i like
and then i saw nvidia shield getting a price drop, which brings me to the topic, the nvidia shield
it's got a hdmi port, which i almost already gave up on, it also have a micro sd card slot which the nexus devices didn't have
it have a tegra 4 processor clocked at 1.9 ghz , which is better then the nexus 7, and even the nexus 4 which is at the same price point
it have 2gb of ram which nexus 7 only have one
and those are the reasons, which comes to the point that it's nothing about gaming
and that's why people are gonna think i'm dumb
so just to clear it up, i also have a gtx 660 oc which enables the pc streaming feature
and it also happens that i'm working on my own steam box, and got stuck at can't find a wireless controller for a pc
so those are all my reasons that i'm getting the nvidia shield, thanks for reading
again if i'm wrong about anything, please do correct me
also, this is my first time posting a thread, i tried my best to make sure everything is ok, but please do correct me too if i was wrong
your also welcome to discuss on the reply section
Actually sounds like you've done a bunch of homework on this already.
I can point out a few things about streaming...
1. It's possible to plug a wireless X-box 360 controller adapter into your PC and play from another nearby room via streaming, but the range isn't great. It also hits item #2.
2. Streaming quality - I've tried to find good streaming solutions in my home. I've got all the different "flavors" of Splashtop, I've tried different types of VNC and such. I'm going to be trying RemoteFX soon with RDP, but can't comment on that one yet. SHIELD has, so far, beat them all hands-down. The video quality is incredible compared to software like Splashtop. Latency is almost non-existent and I can play games like Monaco from my bed easily.
3. Wifi Bandwidth - You'll need a decent 5GHz wifi to really enjoy it. Unlike Splashtop, this takes up a lot of wifi bandwidth. But honestly, if you're going to stream over wifi, you might as well use some serious bandwidth for it. No point is having crappy quality just to have a bunch of unused wifi (at least in my opinion).
4. Comfort - Trying to play a game in bed or on the couch with a tablet and controller is uncomfortable to me. They're not really "built together" in a way that I find user friendly. I used to have an old Windows Tablet PC (before Apple even made a tablet and tried to claim first), and the problem with the keyboard for it was that you ended up with the screen on a "stand" and a keyboard. The keyboard was comfortable, but you couldn't use it in bed or anything because where were you going to put the screen stand?
Hope that give you more info about it, from my personal use cases on the devices.

Will it really be bad over 2.4GHz? I plan on upgrading soon but that's all I have right now. Does the quality suffer most or will it begin to lag first?

M.O.J.O Price starting to drop

I figured this would happen because of the shield. tv. Amazon selling MOJO for $99.99 now.
Nah, I think it's just temporary. Bought my MOJO for the same price 5 months ago. They decrease the price every couple of months or so, and jump them back to the $130-145 range.
I doubt it, I think the MOJO was bad financially for madcatz.. I'm guessing it's stock clearing.

Thats a shame. The MOJO is an incredibly frustrating device out of the box but, once you figure out fixes to all it problems/quirks? It becomes an absolute MUST-HAVE device.
One of these days i'm going to make a thread detailing all my fixes for the MOJO. Right now i'm working on my last one:
Which is being able to connect to PC to load/modify files. Merely connecting the MOJO to the PC with USB is simply not going to happen. Someone suggested Samadroid, which is a method of connecting android devices over Wi-Fi, eliminating the hassles of USB drivers in windows. Seemed to work great.
However, just when i thought i had conquered the MOJO i have a new problem: Everytime i try to delete or modify a file on my SD card in the MOJO using Sambadroid, i get an error saying "permission is needed for access" or whatever. So far nothing I've tried had worked, including rebooting Windows 7 in safe mode.
Any help or suggestions?
I just put a FTP server on android, it starts in the background and is always running.
Then use filezilla (cuteftp or flashfxp etc.) to hook into the MOJO.
I use it for my MINIX boxes as well as it saves having to hook a USB cable up to them. Ive got ethernet connection to all my Android boxes so it's actually faster than transferring via USB as well
Didn't I tell you the price would jump back again? lol
I have been watching the price for the device ever since it came out. The $99 price tag occured at least 4 times now.

Yeap, your right. That price is ridiculous, you get so much for your money with the shield Tv. I advise every to spend the extra 50 bucks for the shield Tv. I bought two of them, and they seriously kick ass. Fiber optics is a must if you want to use Grid service. I just switched from TWC to Bell Fiber optics and I am now paying less actually for much better service.

The shield Tv has a cooling fan in it though. Like most devices of this type, its most likely proprietary and can't be easily fixed. Once that fan dies, you might as well chuck the box. One cool thing about the MOJO is it is fanless, and thus future-proof.
The MOJO is pretty awesome once you figure out it quirks. Although I admit that most will quit long before they do so. I was in love with the idea of the MOJO from the get-go, so i had a lot of incentive not to give up out of frustration everytime the MOJO shot down my attempts to get it to function properly.

I'm curious about what you think makes the MOJO a must have device? I just bought mine, should be coming in a few days. Was planning on using it for Kodi and throwing a bunch of old emulators on there.
You also mentioned that it's great once you get all the quirks figured out and fixed. Care to elaborate? I would like to know what I'm getting myself into.
Thanks!

You will definitely need my help then. Because the MOJO is a colossal pain in the A$$.
I've been meaning to make a thread detailing all my fixes & solutions for it but, not till I've fixed the last one. Which is ease of file transfer (without actually removing my SD card each and every time i want to add/modify files). Been kinda procrastinating on that one lately.
---------- Post added at 06:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:47 AM ----------
For one thing, to get the most out of the MOJO, you need to root it. Mad Catz actually have tutorials on their site.
However, it MUST be connected to a PC for it to work. One of the many problems MOJO has, is the complete inability to connect the console to a PC by USB, and have it be properly recognized. Which makes rooting 100x more difficult.
Thankfully, there is an app that exists which you can download onto your MOJO from the internet. Its called Towelroot(V1.0) and is extremely easy to use. Once you've downloaded the app, launch it, click yes to root, your MOJO will reboot itself, and come back rooted. Only V1.0 will work!
Here's the link to the one i used:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/oxrryya4ffs4w6u/tr-1.apk
Thanks for the suggestion. Just received the Mojo a few hours ago. So far installed and ran towelroot, then supersu, GMD auto hide, Set Orientation, ES file explorer, and Amazon App store.
Currently looking for decent emulators to install.

I have an app on my MOJO, i think its called "Fullscreen!". It gets rid of the bottom button row, and instead places two lil'transparent nubs on the bottom right & left corners of the screen. For home and back button functionality.
Does your mojo output sound on both 720p as well as 1080p? One problem i had is the image was too damned zoomed in on 1080p, losing the edges of the screen. On 720p it looked perfect but.... no sound output! Finally i downloaded an app that let me adjust the 1080p resolution/size to something that is much better. Its still not perfect but, i get 99.11% of my image now, as opposed to 84%. prior to the app.
And have you had any luck connecting the unit to a PC by USB and getting a computer to recognize it? After trying tons of android USB drivers, getting my windows 7 comp to properly recognize the MOJO just wasn't going to happen.
The MOJO was a massive pain in the A$$ but, i'm glad i stuck with it. Emulators on this thing run like a dream. PPSSPP, a Sony PSP emulator, runs great.
The GMD Auto Hide app basically does the same thing as the fullscreen one you're talking about. It hides the bottom row but they'll reappear when you mouse over them.
So far I'm in 1080p with full sound. No issues there. Maybe because of your TV brand? I have mine hooked up to an LG 50LN5400.
I have not tried to plug the MOJO into my PC yet. I've only used the FTP server or just place roms onto a micro xdsc. I'll give it a shot and let you if it works or not.
I agree about the emulators. The MOJO is a fantastic box for emulation. Sure, I could run all of them on my PC, but I'd rather kick back in my lazy boy, fire up a game using a controller with beer in hand

Pitiful bluetooth connectivity

Bluetooth doesn't want to work for me, don't drink and XDA
Have you actually wiped the phone? You just said you installed roms.
Wow what the heck are you talking about?
Instead of complaining here, go buy a new iPhone and enjoy 24 days on one charge.

Have had this phone since around 4 months, for the most part, i love it.
It's my first Nexus, i can see the fascination, i can understand why people like it.
However............. That being said..................... I do have some issues.
I have a Moga pro pad, something which in itself isn't cheap, i used to use this on my previous phones, all of them (except my iPhone which thought it was a headset or something?, I have no idea what it thought it was, probably wanted to mate with it or rip it off or something)
Anyway, it's always worked, the thing even connected to my sketchy, but brand new Fire Tv Box, i was playing Mario Kart 64 on it, literally two days ago.
It used to work perfectly on my phone a few months ago and yet now? Nothing, i can't connect my Jawbone Prime, I can't connect my Moga Pro? I can't connect anything?
Is there something i'm missing? Is there a baseband image i've overlooked? OR not heard of as nothing has been said except a vendor? Of which i've installed!!!
Has anyone else had a similar experience? OR infact found a work around? Brought stability? Found a way to connect besides waiting for a whole day?
ROMS:
Resurrection
AOSIP
Pure Nexus
Dirty Unicorns
Beyond stock from these roms, there are no changes being made, I am literally installing and pairing? I'm sure it works, but jesus it takes too long, if it connects at all.
I've seen bluetooth fail, but I know it is not common, what could have changed, both of the devices i'm trying are both high end and work on other devices, as i'm writing this, it feels like hardware EE will be getting a harsh earbashing from me if this is the case.
Any help, relevant situations, similar appearances or happenings? Any advice or knowledge would be greatly appreciated, i fail to see that Huawei, who actually deal with connectivity, would sell a unit with such a poor unit that it would fail within a few months?? If this is the case then they've made my decision to buy a P9 very simple, I won't. Cheap tat.
Any input, besides the derogatory kind is appreciated, although some derogatory input is sometimes hilarious, so i'll take that too.
Sorry, i've had a bit to drink, i'll edit the mental bits tomorrow, i'm just upset mate
Feel like beating someone to death with a clown show, with potatoes in the toes >: ( Proper venomous clown shoe pastings. For a few days whilst they work out why it broke in the first place, or just cancel my damn contract and let me just buy an M10 which i'm sure will be superb, jokers.
Not happy, sorry for moaning.
PS: EDIT: The battery on this phone ??? It's crap!!! All this SOT crap??? It's a load of bull, i get a day, at best 2? And that's when i have to work like a slave.
My M9 had better and that's saying something.
Whats worse!!! My iPhone 6 ( i know) ( they were £8 a month with work, it was so cheap i wanted to see what the fuss was about)
I'll share a pic now, you will be shocked, 8.1.3 IOS.
Nearly 5 days off one charge!!! Amazing, whatsapp installed, email, made calls,, played games?? All; of it.
However i'm not stupid, i updated it once, went from 8.1.3, to 8.2 and i lost over 20% in one night, just because wifi was on, reverted back as i backed up first, went back to my superb battery life.
I'll post a pic in a min, but that phone was like a marine, as much as i hate to admit it, it's just people abusing the device by overcharging and over apping and choosing poor OS's, I chose wisely and jesus, near 5 days on 1 charge, i was amazed. Performance and stamina. Never seen anything like it, made me sick that apple could acutally do that. : (
The nexus hasn't been optimized at all, that also annoys the crap out of me.

Same here, I am able to connect with other devices, my JBL Flip 3, and even my Moto 360 without a single drop.
Just flashed another rom, maybe it's my Moga? Odd. Running resurrection at the moment, think it's franco's kernel.
