Edit: Oops, incorrect forum. Mods, please move if this is an issue. (Meant to be in OP6T)
Anyone else completely reliant on WiFi calling at home (zero signal / no data) able to send and receive MMS? They fail for me over WiFi calling, work flawlessly once I'm at work utilizing data (possibly ruling out APN issues)
Additionally, MMS send/receive work great on my wife's iPhone 7, and they worked perfectly fine on my OP5T until the Oreo update (at which point, that phone had stopped being able to send/receive MMS over Wifi Calling as well.) Anyone know any tricks to getting this to operate? The only alternative I have is to tell people to send picture messages / group messages to my Google Voice number.
Items tried:
Tried creating alternate APN that has more APN types
Tried activating the SIM that came in the box, as the one I was using was from my OP3T forever ago.
Tried using Google Messages as opposed to the stock SMS app
Tried using Signal (which works fine if the other end is also utilizing Signal - 99% of my contacts, however, are not.)
T-Mobile support seems to be completely blind to any issues with this, so just seeing if anyone else has a similar experience.
I have the unlocked OnePlus 6, I'm on T-Mobile and WiFi calling and texting works.
I had one instance that it wasn't working (I noticed the VoLTE icon was gone). To get it to work again, I had to reset Network settings (settings>system>reset options>reset WiFi, mobile and Bluetooth).
Presto!!
Try it out.
After this I turned airplane mode on, connected to WiFi and made calls and sent texts just fine.
Good luck
Does it work on any network?
Mine connects at home with internet and wifi calling. Works at a friends house too.
At my office it connects to the network and all functions normal except no wifi calling or sms.
My Galaxy S8 works with wifi calling at home, friends, AND at work.

We had this issue.. It was blocking some ports... thankfully someone who knew more than I did was able to work with them to whitelist the needed port thru the firewall. I admit that seems inconsistent with the S8 working @ your work.. but still worth following up with your IT.
What version of the 6t do you have? Tmo or International?
My OP6 works & sends mms just fine via wifi calling. It could also be a network issue maybe.
Has anyone comes across a Pie custom ROM where WiFi Calling works?
So far, Xenon HD 8.1 is the only one that I have gotten to work.

Latest treskmod is working now as well
Try this on your custom ROM, I am on a OP6 but this should apply to the OP6T.
Add this to /system/build.prop, save and reboot:
Code:
persist.vendor.cne.feature=1
WiFi Calling should function now.
It works on AOSiP and Omni for OP6. YMMV.
I have the unlocked 6T running OOS and cannot send MMS on WiFi-Calling. All calls and SMS texts work fine, just not MMS. I am on MetroPCS which is functionally the same as T-Mobile. On my 5T everything works perfect over WiFi-Calling including MMS.
Has anyone found a solution for MMS not working over WiFi-Calling for T-Mobile/MetroPCS?

So I recently upgraded from my Nexus 6 to the 6P. Fantastic upgrade, except that there seems to be the issue I mentioned in this thread title.
Whenever I'm on LTE my MMS messages / group messages come in just fine. But whenever I'm connected to WiFi -- either at home or at work -- I'll get the blinking LED notification that I've received an MMS message and sometimes see the "Message is Downloading" placeholder, only it won't ever download. I physically have to disconnect from Wifi, and then the message will roll in a few moments later.
A few specs to hopefully help out: - T-Mobile user, phone is stock but unlocked/rooted. I've flashed a different kernel (Franco) but that's it. I live in Los Angeles, and this wasn't an issue with the old N6, but first made it's ugly appearance on the 6P. Wi-Fi calling is always on and preferred. I can literally pop my SIM out and into the old phone, and the MMS will send/receive just fine. It appears to be a 6P problem. I've tried disabling WiFi Calling but it doesn't resolve the issue.
ADDED NOTE: I primarily use Messenger, but I switched to Hangouts to see if it rectified the problem. Same problem persisted. Same with Textra.
I've had experience with flashing other ROMS/radios on the old N6. I'm hesitant to change to a different ROM because I'm pretty happy with how the phone is working with stock, and everything I change can basically be done with Nova Launcher.
I've downloaded the older radio files, and was ready to attempt flashing one of those, but it's very different with this new TWRP 3.00+ and different partitions. My confidence with that has vanished with the new 6.01 partition stuff. If this is a potential fix, any help in that area would be appreciated.
I've also changed and fiddled with the APN settings, hoping the change might improve the MMS issue. It hasn't. I'm using the suggested T-Mobile APN settings that pop up when searching for this issue.
I've been debating switching to Project Fi, but with the absolute reliance on WiFi this hiccup has given me a bit of pause regarding that switch. Specifically because it happens on my home Wifi in Culver City, then the business Wifi in Downtown Los Angeles, across both 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi bands.
Just looking for any help or suggestions. Thanks!

It's been this way for me for as long as I've owned an Android device. MMS has never worked over wifi for me....I've owned a Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 as well as some HTC and Samsung devices (quite a few). The only device I've ever owned that it worked on is my Mi Note Pro. Even then, it seems to toggle on mobile data and give it priority over wifi until the message is downloaded. I know this isn't a solution, but just letting you know that this is pretty common.
I've used sprint in the past but am now on T-Mobile

Yes MMS inherently built to use only mobile data.
However SMS applications have setting along the line: enable data when dealing with MMS.
For e.g.
That's what I mean by not being able to send/receive MMS on WiFi.
What messaging app is that?

I think that's a T-mobile issue. I used to get it all the time.
I did my googles and it sounds like this setting helps primarily with VoLTE. Band 12 was removed from the Idol 3 and so this is a non-starter. In terms of downside, I read online that Enhanced 4G LTE Mode drains battery faster, and less frequently, I heard some may have a weaker signal.
Overall, it seems like there are no advantages to having it turned on, and a few unconfirmed potential disadvantages so my guess is to err on the side of caution and disable it. Here is where to reach the setting:
Settings > Data Usage > Cellular Networks
If someone knows a reason to keep it enabled, please chime in.
anyone having a problem sending/receiving text messages with photos or videos, after marshmallow upgrade? I can't text photos/videos/media?

Did you get the ota for your device? Or, have you flashed it? You will need to check the APN. Perhaps, it's either not correct, or missing something

My APN settings are fine, I've tried a bunch of different settings, but they're fine. I get LTE, no problem.
Stock messenger and Google messenger don't work sending SMS. Textra works fine, so I've switched my messenger app.
Sucks , I liked Google messenger too. Maybe Alcatel will come up with a patch to fix this soon. It's obviously an issue with their cut of marshmallow on this device.
Sounds just like the issues I've been having with the ota Kevin. I used Google messenger too, up until yesterday.
Tried many different APN settings. LTE, sms, and voice is fine, no mms. I'm on t-mobile.
Thanks for the textra advice. It seems to be working fine.
Textra is having some issues too. Occasionally does not send MMS?
Anyone using G4 with T-Mobile? If so, what is your experience?
works good only thing lacking is wifi calling but no issues with sms pictures or data disconnecting.

No wi-fi calling feature is a deal breaker for me - Motorola/Lenova definitely losing lots of potential sales. If the feature is built into MM then why not have an easy way to turn it on?
I'm on T-Mobile and like the others have said, only snag is no wifi calling. For me its no problem as I use the 100mins unlimited data (5GB on 4gLte plan) and if I'm running low on mins just use hangouts to make calls free in usa.
So far I have had zero problems with service and all sms/texts are working fine too.
the settings hook to enable it exists on the G4 if you search for it under activity launcher, but it's probable that the kernel and/or modem code won't allow it, as the toggle just turns itself back off. i wonder how hard it would be to port the necessary functionality from another moto phone to the G4. anyone have any ideas?
I am on T Mobile and I have had issues receiving MMS messengers while on WIFI. Does anyone have a fix for this? I read previously that there was an APN setting to change but I am not sure. Thanks in advance! Also, this is using Android Messages (Stock APP).
Haven't changed anything and it's working on my end..also on T-Mobile...

I had the same issue and I am on TMobile also. If WiFi was on, I could not send nor receive MMS. I fixed it with this: https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/61843
---------- Post added at 09:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:36 PM ----------
Once I made the changes I was able to send MMS and receive them
I'm also on T-Mobile and was not receiving mms when on Wi-Fi, but receiving them fine. The problem was fixed when I turned off Wi-Fi calling. Hope that fixes your issue also.
I agree the problem is fixed by turning off WiFi calling, but WiFi calling is something I want to keep on

Okay so I noticed wifi calling wasn't on for me when it was working. I went and checked my APN settings and they were wrong. I corrected them using the settings in the link a few posts up and now it works with wifi calling on for me

I am glad it worked for you.
I also used the above fix, it seems to be working as well. Thanks
I have bookmarked that TMO page. Just a FYI, my pixel unlocked and unbranded does not have this problem
I am going to run by t-mobile today, I'm trying to gauge my signal with my wife iPhone today to see if it's the same.

As with the MMS on Wifi .. the APN that the Essential pulls is not complete .. NONE of the 4 it pulls. I would go in and edit yours. The MMS while on wifi regardless of wifi calling on or off .. should be fixed with the proper APN. Remember that you should reboot after changing the APN. My wife's was having an issue with MMS and weird signal issues. I fixed her up with a proper APN. It's a pitfall of a non-carrier phone. My U11 suffered the same issues. Anyway. Give a proper APN a shot.
I did this but am still having reception issues as well as MMS issues
To clarify if you make this chnage to get it to work, you need "Cellular" checked under Wifi Calling. If you have WiFi calls as preferred it still does not work. These changes and that setting allow the phone to jump back and forth when needed, correct?

Sure it does. I just sent a gif from Gboard and a photo from my gallery to the wife and she's got an Essential on TMO. It works fine.
Again, a proper APN will make all this work properly.
What have those of you on Verizon been doing?
Hello - I saw this post while looking for an MMS solution for my PH-1 on AT&T. I have had Verizon, Sprint, Google Fi, and AT&T on this phone, and the only one that I could send/receive SMS/MMS was on Verizon while on my work network's WiFi. I work in a school building behind three layers of cinder block walls, and I have to have a way for this to work. I could go back to VZW, but I'm trying to avoid their high and not-unlimited Unlimited plans' rates. Can you direct me to the correct APN settings for AT&T? Thanks!
Like the title says, I can only receive MMS over WiFi calling. If I'm not using WiFi calling (which I usually don't) or if im not connected to WiFi at all, I will not receive an MMS message. I will get a notification saying it failed to download. Sending MMS also doesn't work. This is now day 3 I've been using the phone and until now I've had no issues. This morning it worked just fine.
I had a similar issue on my 6T where I couldn't receive MMS on WiFi calling, so my problem now is reversed. To fix that I got an LTE cell spot and disabled WiFi calling.
So far I've tried rebooting, toggling airplane mode, toggling WiFi calling, checking and changing APN, using Textra, and using Google messages. Nothing worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Update: suddenly working again. Strange.
Update part 2: broken again.
Update part 3: FIXED (at least so far, been working for a few days without issue) switching to a different texting app (i.e. Textra or Google messages), and revoking all permissions from stock messaging app like data, WiFi, EVERYTHING. Then disabling the stock app. After this, I haven't had any issues. It seemed to be intermittent before so we'll see how long it lasts. So far this has been the longest stretch without issue.
I have discovered that a bug is causing the issue. It is APN related it seems. To fix it temporarily, I have the default TMobile APN and a second one with the exact same settings. Default doesn't work at all. The second one will work for a few hours. Once it breaks again, all I have to do is enable the default APN, then the one I created again immediately after that. Keep in mind they both have IDENTICAL settings.
weird mine works fine I just sent and received from a friend of mine two photos without issue. If it's TMO USA I'm assuming by the thread I use the stock APN but I duplicate it and change APN protocol and APN roaming protocol to IPv4/IPv6 from it's default settings (I think one defaults to v4 and one to v6).
