Q: OK Google, screen off / plugged in? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hi folks,
When I went from my old LG G3 to my current OP3T, I had to get used to the phone not being capable of responding to OK Google, in the use case where the phone is plugged in and charging but with screen off. So think of the phone plugged in on a kitchen counter, and I ask it a question from the dinner table. I used to do this a lot before getting my 3T.
No way to get that to work on the 3T. Had to have screen on for it to work. Never paid attention to 5/5T/6 on this issue since I never planned to own one.
I hope they got this working for the 6T. Can somebody please report on it?
Thanks in advance!

This works fine on my OP6 and 5T, I use it all the time while driving or at my desk. I'm pretty sure I read something the other day about google thinking of getting rid of the feature tho. Yep, here it is. https://gadgets.ndtv.com/apps/news/...ice-match-android-feature-discontinue-1939423

One note, the voice unlock that seems to be going away is a separate thing from invoking the assistant as reported in that article. For example, when connected to my car, my phone is always unlocked anyway. Love that!

Well I Had My HTC Fun >:(

Got my first one launch day it got so hot that you could hardly hold it through a Otterbox commuter case and the lag oh my god it was horrible just a dud phone. Well got #2 yesterday the volume rocker on it sticks and you cannot turn it down with it, and by it sticking you try to turn it off and just resets. When it is sticking even the slider refuses to work just keep returning to the top. I would like to love the phone it is a nice piece of hardware but these issues are just way to much for a flagship phone imho. I still may try one more but getting pretty fed up with them to be honest. May prettier and fancier but my Nexus 4 or Note 2 have never let me down yet. See what Monday brings when I return this one..... Sorry I had to vent so frustrated

I understand the frustration, no flagship phone should have QC problem but unfortunately they exist. They say 3rd time is the charm. Sorry to see you leave if you decide to go. Good luck.
Just ask for the latest batch of phones when you go in.. If you're lucky enough to return to a retail outlet, you can check the device before they move it to your account. I went through literally 5 phones on my last go around. I was determined to find a decently built device.

[Q] LG G2 Screen Problem

I am really frustrated with my LG G2 because of the screen problem I encountered. The screen goes up and down, it happens when I over using the phone. I went on LG service center to reset my phone. still no luck, the problem is still there. They think its a software problem. I hope LG will release new software update on G2
To me that seems more like a hardware problem, not a software one.
Can you reproduce the problem at will?
Dude, I think you have a lemon...
Good luck!
It happened when i charged my phone with the screen is on and i always reading manga. maybe the screen is too sensitive. Yea i think this is hardware issue
I have used mine while connected and charging... Never had a problem with that.

Hopefully you're still in your exchange period...swap it out
You are running it completely stock? And you've done a factory reset? If so, it sounds to me like your phone is defective. These phones are so new it should still be under warranty, right?
Just got the same problem as OP last night and I've used it only for 1 month,so now I send my phone to LG service center and they said it was a hardware problem not sure which part but will reply here soon when I got my phone back and tell you all what's the problem...

Got a similar problem. I am unsure if I want to send it back for exchange or just keep it, as there are plenty of reports of owners exchanging G2's just to get another with the same problem. Looks to me to be a software issue - at least with my G2 - as I can get past it by just turning the screen off/on.
Let us know how your G2 turns out.

Lol just swapped it out. We will see how the new one does but so far way way better. Seriously my phone was horrible. I read and read thread after threads today and my case seemed way worse then everyone else's. Like most people's was tolerable, this was intolerable. I'd say 6 out of 10 times u turned on the screen it be messed up.
I showed the best buy mobile guy and he said without a doubt there's a problem. The best place for me to show him was the app drawer, if u held ur finger on the screen it would bounce and randomly select apps, we tried the demo unit and it worked perfectly.
Ill keep u updated on how this baby does.

Well that didn't take long. Started setting the phone up and all was good. Started disabling the apps I don't use and after that it went berserk. I thought Hhmm maybe it's one of the apps causing it so did a factory reset and no it did right off the bat so I'm done. If it wasn't to late tonight I woulda just took it back again. Back to the Note 2.

Yikes - sorry to hear this.
I wondered if my first G2 was worse b/c I aggressively set it up right from the start: disabling apps I don't want, installing a bunch of apps, etc. On G2 #2, I didn't do that and although I've seen this issue surface on my new G2, it has been just a couple of times.
You need to use whatever phone you get the most enjoyment out of. The G2 undeniably has a software glitch that causes this PIA issue. Too bad it didn't work out for you. Good luck with your Note.
I hope LG addresses this issue SOON!!

Ill keep my eyes on the forum and may return to it if they fix the phone cause im not gonna use my upgrade right now. Besides this glitch the phonw is a beast. Good luck...

This happened to a few people here in Thailand. We are posting the issues on a group in facebook.
My iPhone 4s used to bounce all over the place when plugged in to charge.
My G2 hasn't had any hardware issues at all yet. I've had it going on 7 months now. Works perfectly.
My advice is that if you get a replacement or repair and it does it again, never get another LG product again. Just like me an Apple. I'm done with them. There's a guy here who wants his old Note 2 back. I know a guy who had 3 motherboards replaced on his Note 2. The last one broke the screen as the phone was swollen. There's no way of knowing. Its just the luck of the draw with these things.
When you get a really good phone, keep it and use it until it disintegrates. As long as this G2 is fine, I won't part with it for anything.
And yes. This is a hardware issue.

Maybe this can be replaced by the warranty service.
bring it to the service center.. but you will handle the repair.. if your liable for the damage

prices slashed already

2 months in, and tmobile is already taking $120 off the retail price. sales must be horrendous
I bought my G4 about 1 month ago and mention this discount to a representative who credited my EIP $60 as as courtesy.
Through my trials and tribulations with the G4 I was able to submit three different rebates for both the extra battery and the 128 SD card and sold them all on eBay for an additional $270 minus fees... So all in all I'm in the G4 for dirt cheap but I'm still not satisfied with this piece of crap phone.

This root less phone is just not worth anything.
BAD ASS NOTE 4 & LG G4
every day I use the phone I find more bugs. I can no longer type fast because it misses so many taps. My phone is froze every morning from the wireless charger, so is my girlfriends. half the time double tapping the volume down won't open the camera. if I get a text my screen will turn on and stay on. it will never turn off until I read the text message. If I have an app up that keeps the screen on and I hit the power button, when I turn the screen back on to check the time it will stay on and never go off, even though still at lock screen. I could go on forever. I bet root would fix 98% of this. I think the worst problem, missed taps, is a hardware issue and cannot be fixed with software or root. I'm afraid the phone is complete ****.
I think everyone that has issues should try one factory reset. I feel like that solved all of my problems. Root would be very nice but not a deal breaker like it used to be for me. Now that I have kids the number one priority for me is the camera, and this is about the best there is.

Root isn't gonna fix any of it. It's not some magic thing that does anything really but make your system partition writable. If you're having all of those issues (and the same to the other people having issues) you've probably just got a bad phone from a bad batch of them. I had to RMA my first one, no further issues. Rather than continuously dump on the phone (which, by the way, I don't particularly care for either, and won't have another LG phone in the future, but my issues aren't with bad hardware/software, mostly company dynamics), try and get it fixed/replaced. Your issues will probably be largely fixed.
The factory reset is also a good idea, and will tend to fix most issues...but in the event it doesn't, simply get it replaced. But honestly the hollering about how bad the phone is...? Overall it's a decent piece of hardware. Not the best, but not the worst by any means. Take matters into your own hands and get the thing fixed/replaced.
I have has two G4 devices, and both have been flawless. I have no tap issues and I'm a fast typer. Then there are the people that have been talking about other bugs. I'm just so happy with my G4. Of course every aspect could be bettered, but that's true with every device. I love the G4 and here in Europe the prices drop on every device sooner or later. Especially in down times where people aren't buying phones. Everyone here is getting ready to go on vacation ...

root will fix most of it what are you talking about. xposed framework will fix almost everything. And I don't continuously dump on the phone, this is a thread about the phone not being that great. If you love it and have no issues go find a new thread. I don't particularly care for your opinion either. I have already had it replaced once. I have every intention on changing it out again, but I'll wait a month or so for them to fix the bugs vs getting another **** phone. I might add that when I spoke to LG they said the Verizon ones are having the most trouble.....and that the only difference was software....so once again I believe root will help.

This thread is about the price cut. OP never mentioned anything about phone being horrible. Keep this stay on topic. Some of us were able to get partial refund. Please don't hijack the topic and steer into wrong subject.
This isn't the place to talk about rooting the device.

Samsung to deactivate remaining N7 phones?

Someone told me that Samsung will eventually 'disable' the remaining devices not turned in. Assuming this is true, I am guessing this could only be achieved by an OTA update disabling the phone? Any thoughts on how to prevent this assuming it's true?
They have the ability to do it yes, but haven't seen anywhere saying they would. Android Central had an article on this, but fell short of saying Samsung would, only that it's possible.

They should.. All those people that are ignoring the requests to turn off the phone and return it are the same people that will still want samsung to pay for their homes when they burn down because of their own stupidity..

Do you think I can call the police to tell them that my co worker has a note 7 and that I am afraid for my life?
He has been charging the note all day! This is reckless endangerment.
Even if Samsung pushes an OTA Update to disable the phone. It might not work. For example, i turnef off automatic uodates. Actually i turned off 'Software Update' feature.

I use this phone almost all day..had it for 3 weeks now. Never observed it getting hot..forget abt hot..it didn't even got warm. Not sure abt others phones..but mine is good. Also, we need to know how the other phones blew up ? Did they root their phones & ran some crazy games or apps on their phones that constantly ran in the background leading to very high CPU usage & charging on op of it ?. If it were a wide spred issue & a defect with the design itself. Every phone should have been fired up by now. Not just one here & an other there.

I completely agree. I just got off the Phone with my AT&T representative from the customer service line ..she agreed that I could go do an exchange for the S7 edge now and next year when the new Samsung note 8 comes out or the S8 I can take the Phone in and upgrade without any penalty...
I told her that I upgraded to the note 7 because it was the newest phone and it would be a downgrade going to the S7... she agreed and I hope that this will work out

I agree fully with you. I repeated it back to her just for that reason.
What I told her was that ive been a loyal customer, full family plan with 4 phones, love the service, etc etc.
Said I upgraded to the best phone at the time, using my upgrade. Not my fault that the phone is defective and that Im being
forced to downgrade to a year old phone and one that I dont want. Said I purchased 2 wireless chargers, numerous accessories, my time and effort going the replacement route. All I want is a waiver of the upgrade whenever the phone I want comes out next year.
Doesnt seem too outrageous of a demand. For any of us. Isnt that what customer service is all about?
I hope so at least. Ill know tomorrow morning when I go in the store.

And you feel like you are safe? From what i read even turn off phone exploding. I don't want to scare anybody but... can you imagine that your kid play/talk on phone and phone explode/burn? OK. Not a kid/don't have kids, it is worth to keep a phone knowing that it my burn/explode any time in my pocket, hand etc? If it dose burn/explode in your face, hand, car etc., you will not win anything since there is so much buzz about and everybody has been warn. Yes i know i maybe dramatic but this is only phone and is not wort it to risk anything just for phone. Just my opinion. Choice is yours and only yours. Don't get me wrong but NO phone is worth it.
BTW Samsung can block IMEI and phone will be use less and i think that what they will do. You can block any software update and this will not help.
I believe he was playing on his phone and it was overheating and then he turned off his phone

My wife is chatting with an AT&T customer service person right now. This way we have it in writing. He has agreed that we can get the S7 Edge and then when the S8 we can then upgrade. I have the transcript of the chat, but I still don't know that I believe it myself.
That being said, I'm still going to turn these phones in and get the S7 Edge. My house burning down is not worth a cell phone, no matter how much I love it.

Do you think I can call the police to tell them that my co worker has a note 7 and that I am afraid for my life?
He has been charging the note all day! This is reckless endangerment.

True, but does anyone really want to keep a phone that wont have any support? Is it worth $800+?

Haha.. We on att.. We don't have support for our phones now.. It took damn near 6 months to get 6.0 on my last note 5..smh
Folks who r trying to hold on to Note 7..i suggest ibstalling 'Cooler Master' which monitors the Phone's temperature & alerts you if it detects heating up. Another app ' Full battery alert' alerts when the battery is full while charging. Just simple precautions. Both the apps are available on Playstore. Also do turn off 'Fast charging setting'.

PH-1 losing 30-40% battery while powered off

I have discovered my PH-1 has an unusual problem. If the phone is powered off for a day or two it loses a substantial amount of battery. I found this out when I switched back to my S8+ while on a trip and when I went to switch back to the PH-1 it was down to 60 something percent battery when it was at 100 percent when I powered it down.
This is new behavior as it wasn't doing this when I got it.
Thinking it was a fluke I repeated the exercise a few times with the same result. I reached out to Essential support but because I purchased the phone used (off Swappa) they told me to pee up a rope after making me jump through hoops for week.
I tried a hard reset, re-applying the latest patch, and re-flashing the latest Pie via fastboot. Nothing has worked which makes me believe it is a hardware issue.
Just for laughs I powered up my Nexus 5X which has been powered off for months and it was still at 100% battery.
Anyone have anything I can try? I really like this phone but now can't trust it.
I guess as this is the second time I got burned buying a used phone (first Google and now Essential) I will stop using Swappa. The manufactures will not help so you are on your own when you have issues. I realize the manufactures aren't obligated to help second hand device owners but it still sucks when you have issues not of your own making and they blow you off.
That sucks.
Ideally the seller should have been open enough in the description and have explained that this problem exists. I don't know how it works with Swappa as I never used it, but on eBay you can try and work it out with the seller or even open a case saying the phone is faulty. Your best bet is to contact the person who you bought it from and ask if they have an original proof of purchase, or if they're willing for you to send the phone back for a full refund.
It really sounds to me like a battery issue which would be a definite cause for an RMA, I've not seen anyone mention this problem before though.

I'm not sure the seller knew of the problem as it wasn't behaving like this when I first received it. I'm not really blaming either the seller or Swappa. No OEM is going to help you out if you purchased second hand. It's a potential pitfall that purchasers need to be aware of. I was aware of it and still got burned.
I would really like to find a way to resurrect this phone as I loved it. But I won't buy another one. Short of trying to replace the battery I just have run out of things to try.
One thing to try would be to see if it does it with no user installed applications whatsoever.
I'd factory reset it and uninstall everything and see if you still get the drain.
Given that it seems to happen when the phone is off I doubt it's an application, but it doesn't seem like you have many other options.

Thanks but I've already went that route. I re-flashed that latest Pie image and didn't sign in or install anything. Same issue. I'm pretty sure the battery is toast.

OEM might help if the device is still in warranty and whoever you bought it from has the original purchase receipt. Or they have a system like OnePlus where all you need is a screenshot of the order, doesn't matter who owns the actual device.
I try to buy phones in new condition, or at least make sure there's some warranty left plus a purchase receipt of some kind.
Unfortunately changing the battery isn't an option, Essential Phone has no spare parts available so I doubt you'd be able to find one for replacement. Your best bet is to contact the buyer and try to get a proof or purchase off them, or just live with the issue. If you have the phone as a daily driver it won't bother you too much right? Do you feel like the phone drains battery quickly when it's on as well? What kind of Screen on Time do you get with it?

I don't know if I can still contact the seller or not. I can talk to someone at Swappa and find out. That actually is a good idea and worth trying. I haven't run the phone as a daily driver since I discovered the issue because of all the testing Essential made me do and my own experimentation. It does seem to drain more quickly but at this stage I can't be sure.
I may just use it as a very fast and expensive mp3 player.
I just thought I would update this thread. Thanks to CamoGeko I decided to pursue the Swappa angle and contacted them and asked them if they would contact the seller on my behalf which they have done. I made clear that I was not accusing the seller and was just hoping for his assistance. I have heard from the seller and he may have some documentation and is checking into it. It may or may not fly with Essential but it is the only avenue I have left so why not give it a go.
I'll update the thread again once I have more information.

That's great to hear. Hopefully they can provide proof of purchase which means you'll be able to get a replacement device from Essential!
Good luck and hope you get something sorted.

Well even though the original purchaser helped me out and got me a copy of his invoice Essential still told me to take a hike. Soooo I am officially out of options.

I had the same issue with the battery drain after turn off the phone. In my case, I waited until the empty battery.
After 8 hours without battery I plug the phone to the charger and the issue was gone. In my case was after the security update 5 july in Android 8.1.

Maybe I'm not out of options after all. I hadn't heard of that before but your solution certainly seems worth a try. I will let the battery drain and see what happens. Thanks for the post.

Wait 8 hours without battery. After that plug the phone to charger, it's the only trick
Thanks. I will give that a shot. I left it on overnight and it lost 30% of its charge sitting there doing nothing. No radios were turned on.

Did you leave the phone without a battery for 8 hours before reloading it?

No. I haven't gotten that far yet. I'm trying to drain is completely. I'm not using the phone so it's taking longer than I would like. It's weird, it drops 20-30% overnight but doesn't seem to drain excessively while powered on.

Ok. I got it to drain completely and let it sit for about 15 hrs. Charging it now. I'll report back when I have some info. Thanks for the suggestion. Even if it doesn't work for me it was certainly worth trying.
I am really curious to see the outcome. Thanks for the updates.

As am I. I recharged it and now need to let it sit powered off for a few days. I'll report back after that.

I was looking up reviews to decide if I should buy one of these and found this forum. I hope for a good result because I have heard some positive things about this phone. Other than this do you have any other input about it?
