Flashing A Recovery Rom..

I have searched this forum multiple times and i can not find my answer so i am posting this hoping someone with some patience will help me.. when i followed these steps.. "III: Flashing a Custom Recovery
Flashing a custom recovery will make your life easier when flashing ROMs in the future.
1. Download this file: Recovery.zip
2. Extract file contents to your \tools\ directory of your Android SDK.
3. Open up a command prompt and go to your tools directory, and execute these commands:
•adb shell mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
•adb push recovery.img /sdcard
•adb push flash_image /system/bin
•adb shell chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
•adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
4. Success! You now have a recovery partition installed on your phone. You can access it by running "adb shell reboot recovery" or by powering off your phone, holding "Volume Up + Power On"
It says that what i have typed is not an executible file.. someone please help.
are you 100% sure that you extracted the file out of the zip and not just put the zip into the folder?
yea im sure
Are you typing out each command? or are you pasting them into your terminal? Also, what OS are you running ADB from, and have you had success with it before? Or is the eris your first android device
Also, you did the previous steps first correct? IE: you're ROOTED
there is an easier way posted by i think Zinfab it was something like.
su
adb shell
reboot bootloader
at this point make sure it says fastboot USB on the screen
then in the same window fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (make sure your recovery.img is in the same directory as all your SDK tools)
this worked for me when the method u posted didn't work
where do i type this stuff in at.. i have my phone plugged in usb debug checked i installed the usb driver update it and i have the recovery thing extraced in my tools folder now what do i use my computers command prompt or my phones command prompt

did u set the enviromental variable? its not that important I'm just curious.
if not in command prompt first command would be
(directory to tools)\adb shell
"su"
"Reboot bootloader"
then once its in bootloader
(directory to tools)\"fastboot flash recovery (directory to recovery.img)"
now the quoted sections should be typed exactly as is, without the quotes, but you have to know your own directory.
when i type it in on my phone it says adb not found
whats that
ok my phone now is in fastboot usb mode what do i do know
as suggested, did you set the variable? type fastboot devices to see if its even working correctly, to start.
how do i get out of fastboot usb
Type in the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
ok now it says waiting for device
You didn't search that well.

Automated ADB script

Hey all,
I'm trying to create a linux script that executes some adb commands. For example, I would like it to be able to automatically exchange nv_data.bin (which need 'su' rights as you certainly know). The problem begins here:
if I execute command: 'adb shell cp x.x y.y' is fine,
but 'adb shell su cp x.x y.y' is just now working.
So I would need help with this. How can I make it work? I tried adb shell & su and stuff like this, but just did not work... THanks in advance!

adb shell su -c ls
Thanks! It seems to work, but somehow it just did not ask for permission on the phone, so returns 'Permission denied.' I checked phone, but it didn't ask me if I want to enable or not.
Try
Code:
adb shell su -c "ls" -root
Hm, now it asks for it. Thanks! Is it possible, to ask for permission only once, at the beginning, and then be able to do everything?

I'd think if u call it with -root it should only ask once.
Not sure though.
If it asks more than once, could you push a script to the device (somewhere that normally has full r/w access), run it with a single command, then delete it?

[TIPS] Fastboot and adb on linux

I have a tip for everyone who use adb and fastboot in linux.
In most of the tutorials i see that you have go to exac folder to use them, but there is quite simple think you can do to use them from anywhere in your consol. All you have to do is
1. go in consol to the folder where you have adb and fastboot
2. then give command
Code:
sudo nautilus
or
Code:
su
nautilus
This should open a window with root permissions
3. in this windows you need to create shourtcats for adb and fastboot by right click mouse menu.
4. Next you need to cut shourtcats you created and place in folder /bin (you need to do this in the same window beacose you need to have root permissions to paste anything there.
5. And last think you need to do when you paste them it`s change there name`s for adb and fastboot.
Now you can use this commands without "./" and firstly you do not need to go to the folder where they realy are.
Now let say you have an system.img in /home/user/data you can now flash your phone in this way
Code:
su
cd /home/user/data
fastboot flash system system.img
or
Code:
su
fastboot flash system /home/user/data/system.img
su gives root permitions
Now i want to apologize for my english
If any one want to add this to his tutorial please give link for this thread or just write it`s made by me

Sometimes SU alone wont switch to the root user in some distributions (eg. Ubuntu Variants) If you want to switch to root, type sudo su or type "sudo <name of program>" and it will run that program as root.

[adb] [Ubuntu] [script] Quick ADB restart as root script

Hello all. I created a quick fix for a minor annoyance when using ADB on Ubuntu. It seems that at every reboot the adb server would not start as root and as a result i would end up with an error having to do with insufficient privileges when trying to run an adb command.
I created a fix; this might not be the right way to go so i'm open to suggestions, but so far it works for me.
I created a script to quickly restart the ADB server as root.
The script contains the following commands
adb kill-server
cd android-sdk-linux_x86/platform-tools
sudo ./adb start-server
adb devices
Notes:
1. If adb is located somewhere else on your computer, modify the 2nd line to match that location.
2. It will ask you to elevate your privileges when you run it.
3. I placed the script in my home folder and gave it executable permissions so that i could run it by simply typing "./adbrestart" without the quotes from a freshly opened terminal. I recommend unzipping this into your home folder for that reason
Again, this is just a method that works well for me, if someone has a better method of doing this, please feel free to chime in.

[Q] Permissions problem using adb to push app

I'm running a script to modify settings.db (found in the application forum) so that I can wirelessly tether and use the GPS on my phone while running Google Maps on the KF.
The script starts like this:
adb shell rm /data/local/tmp/*
adb push zergRush /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/zergRush
adb shell ./data/local/tmp/zergRush
Click to collapse
and works fine.
But I'm having problems running the script that others are having no problem with at this point in the script.
adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
copy settings.db settings.bak
sqlite3 settings.db "update secure set value=1 where name='mock_location';"
adb push settings.db /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
adb reboot
Click to collapse
The script runs into permission errors. I have all the files in the same directory as adb in the platform-tools folder. adb is communicating with the device with the adb devices command. I run the .bat file from the folder while in a DOS command shell. And I get this error
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
failed to copy '/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db' to './settings.db': Permission denied
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>copy settings.db settings.bak
The system cannot find the file specified.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>sqlite3 settings.db "update secure set value=1 where name='mock_location';"
Error: no such table: secure
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb push settings.db /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db

Any idea what's going on?
i assume you'r at the $ prompt - if you type in su the prompt should change to #
perhaps a hint in the right direction ...
zergrush does'nt work anymore since 6.2.1 and burritoroot
I am not at any command prompt when running the script. I'm at the Windows prompt, and I just execute the script name?
Confused.
when you type adb or adb shell your mostly at the $ prompt
when you type su the promt usually changes to # - thats root access
i think you have to integrate that in your script ...
I added
adb shell su
to the start of my script, but then it just hangs at the root prompt.
if you have rooted with burritoroot try "adb root"
It says:
adbd cannot run as root in production builds
ok then i think you will have to try it with the su method - maybe "adb su" could work - it's just a try
otherwise i think you will have to write a second unix stile script (ending .sh) to do the stuff and call it from your dos script or run it in the adn shell - but i'm not the unix expert - sorry
i'm running out of time now - wish you much luck with your script !!!
Anyone else please?
Resolved.….
Resolved how? Very curious
Please, how did you solved the problem ???
thanks
would be interested too !
Here's how.
I was so frustrated, didn't seem to be able to achieve root status and use ADB. So, I bought root explorer, went to directory where settings.db file was, and copied it to sdcard folder on the KF. Then brought it over to my PC just over the USB connection (KF was a Windows drive).
In Windows, ran the part of the script that replaces the "0" with a "1". Then copied it back to the sdcard folder on the device, and used root explorer to move it back to its proper directory.
Only one caution. Make sure that you don't change the permissions or ownerships of the file, that they are the same as when you first grabbed it.
