Hi There,
one of the main reasons why I bought the S7 Edge initially was its great camera.
The reason why I haven't yet installed a Custom Rom was because I wasn't sure if the custom rom / camera app would provide the same picture-quality as the original one.
Will the Picture quality suffer from a custom camera app, or is the relevant software "build into" the chip, and therefor independent from the actual camera app?
Thanks a lot!
If a TW based ROM is used, the stock camera app can be used, so the phto quality will be the same. If you got root on this ROM you can even access more features of the camera with the Zerocam MOD.
If an AOSP base ROM is used, the quality is not equal. Samsung did not release all the libraries needed to access the hardware of the S7 camera properly. But nowadays you can reach, with third apps, the same quality of the photos as the TW based ROMs.

I have tried many of the proposed solutions to achieve good camera quality in an AOSP based ROM and can only say that none of them came even close to the quality of the stock camera. Also, the speed was not comparable.
To compare I used a test scenario with poor lighting conditions and always took the same pictures. While for instance on images taken with the stock camera one could read the text on a package, on the other images you couldn't even tell that it was text.
Any news on this? As the S7 is end of life, the TW based ROMs are also not an alternative anymore. Is there any chance to get roughly the same camera quality with a LineageOS ROM? What third party apps deliver a decent quality?
you can use google camera. lol

Hey everybody,
besides the different image processing taking place in every camera app which in turn leads to different results in images, are AOSP custom roms capabale of taking complete advantage of the note 4 hardware (utilizing all its features like focus, shutter speeds,...)?
The answer would be comparing a pic taken with a 3rd party camera app on a stock rom vs the same pic being shot with the same 3rd party app on an AOSP rom.
3rd party camera apps on stock roms profit from all the original samsung drivers which are not present in custom roms.
Has anybody done a comparison on this? I'd be greatful for links in that case. Your personal thoughts/experiences are welcomed just the same!
Anything to help me figure out if i should get a note 4 so i can flash custom roms and have great (stock like) image results coming from a AOSP rom with specific camera apps. Or if you think that only the stock touchwiz camera app can profit from certain features (again, I'm not talking about saturation, sharpening, etc. which is done via software and can be edited in a way you/i like. I'm speaking of the actual integration of all the hardware capabilities, drivers, API,...).
Thx for your help,
greetz,
vercetti.
I know that the quality of the photos taken on AOSP cannot possibly be as good as the ones on Touchwiz based ROMs unless the camera application is ever successfully ported over somehow.
Personally, I really hate Touchwiz and I like this phone because of this big beautiful screen.
However, amongst the camera applications available for us AOSP users, which one do you think takes the best quality images? It can be either paid or free.
I am currently using Dirty Unicorns, which has been a pretty awesome custom ROM for me.
Been using Google Camera before. But find that some shots sometimes were over exposure. I'm using Manual Camera now, will give it a try in the next couple of days.
I installed CM12 stable on my K3 note and so far its been pretty good performance wise compared to VibeUI.
However, I feel the camera quality has gone down drastically
I tried installing snapit camera on CM rom which i think is doing little better, but still i feel quality has gone down.
Is it just me, or cam quality in CM/AOSP roms is not that great ? And more importantly any fixes ?
tried differents versions of the snapit camera? Ive read somewhere that the IQ of the picture can be different. Also Lspeed mod disable the compression of the photo that seems to be enabled in most roms.

use different apps for camera instead of inbuilt cam. apps
that will solve you problem
i've found and tried every camera app but it didn't like stock camera app. Can everyone recommend for me a camera app for g531H custom rom.
I just want a picture quality isn't square like anyother camera app. Sorry because my bad english :silly:. Thank you so much
I have the grand prime with a custom ROM installed on it, and it doesn't matter what camera app you're using because the quality won't get better, it happens because Samsung has closed the camera's source vendor and the others ROMs have to use the worse APIs for you to take pictures. Conclusion, if you want max quality on pics, get back to stock original ROM.
EDIT: I was wrong about that?
Actually the drivers are same, even in custom ROMs, the camera app really matters because it depends on how the image is processed by the application. For Gran prime I recommend you to install Lineage's camera (available on apkmirror) and turn off the 'Denoise' option which makes the image to look Sharper.
Development for the device keeps growing and with it the available ROMs. Since most are based on the same source we see some common bugs in all nougat ROMs, bugs that don't really bother me, but I really like to take photos in my free time, enabling camera API and using Google camera looks like an improvement in quality, but I would like to use the ability of the second lens of zooming without loosing image quality, but custom ROMs seems to don't detect the telephoto lens. I installed stock camera apk but the option to use the other lens is missing.
Is there a way to active and use it on any custom ROM? Sorry for the long question.
Same issue here, i would like to get a solution for this too ..
