New User: Best Custom Rom Suggestions - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

Hi forum members,
As the title already says I'm new to the forum. I'm sick of using MIUI Lollipop and how damn slow my phone has become over the years. Can you guys suggest any new Android Oreo/Pie roms to flash along with kernel (if needed to optimize performance and battery). Also i don't need to root as it might ruin banking apps on the device, or do banking apps even work on custom rom?
I would be highly obliged if any of you could answer my queries..
Thanks.
P.S. I have Redmi 2 with 2GB ram. Model 2014818

Dude, i have 1gb ram variant, and in this year using 1gb ram is practicing your patience, and your mind
if i use miui, my phone become very very slow, even i have to waiting for long time to reply a message from Line.
And everything inside my phone is laggy.
when i try to flash my phone with custom rom, my phone still laggy... actually im tired of this, i have try many custom rom, but i didnt get stable and smooth rom.
if i were you, i would try to flash bootleggers rom, i heard from my xiaomi group, if that rom is smooth and stable enough.

Thanks for replying bro,
I'm thinking of flashing bootleggers or pixel experience (it has android go?)
Will banking related apps work on custom ROM devices?

Too many roms, which one should I choose ? Which one is the best ?

I browse XDA everyday and these days there are so many new custom roms for OPX. I'm so confused choosing the one to be flash on my OPX (E1001). So I would like to make a vote so that everyone can share their experience about custom roms choosing. For me, After tried several roms I'm now back to OxygenOS since it's stable. Bluspark kernel gives me a smooth UX and fine performace in gaming. I got 27-29 fps playing Hearthstone on my phone.
Try them, read the forums and decide for yourself. Best rom threads aren't allowed on xda.

Try purity rom. You'll find it on purity community on g+. For me it's perfect. Not a single bug

Yup. That's the best way. Just try em all. I don't even have a favorite. Some are better in different ways. Right now I am running Oxygen though. It's the only ROM supported by the Boeffla kernel right now
I means I just want to find a rom which has good battery and bug free for daily use.

Bro you can use boeffela kernel on h2os also I have flashed boeffela 7 for oneplus x OOS on h2os and it is running smoothly no lags at all and on benchmark it is giving a score of 68k to 69k by doing some customization by boeffela config app
I totally understand this poll.
Following OnePlus X development thread for some time now, it is quite difficult to choose one of the ROM.
For those saying that we need to try them ... I tried most of them and can't figure out why using one compare to the other ...
Most of them are CM based or include exactly the same feature.
I remembered using TeamEOS ROM and this, was completely different (in my point of view). Some extra goodies included but all from them, with some differences (gestures instead of navbar).
I don't want to be rude dev, but except AOSParadox, all are quite similar for "normal" users (not developpers I mean) and when using one, you tried all of them ...

What is so different than all other CM based rom?
too many similar roms, it's quite annoying actually. would of liked some custom Oxy OS roms etc and H2OS debloated roms
all these cm13 roms are the same just rebadged

The biggest thing for me, that there are no bugs. No wifi bug, no invalid number bug, build in superuser works, so no need for supersu etc.
For me it's bug free,

Just tried it myself. No crashes here. I'm running with bluspark kernel 104 BTW.
I tried some custom ROMs but battery life is nothing like OxyOS..
I found screen on time 5.5-6 hr in oxy os & it's great...
So I am Desperately Seeking
Is there any Custom OS based on OxyOS/H2OS ?
yeah i would like a h2os lite version but not holding my breath for it. h2os with boeffla kernel flies. 71k antutu score.
also this vote will only show how many users r using their preferred rom. it will not show the best rom.

I am working on a custom oos rom. Will release when its ready (think about two weeks from now). And I'm still pending on permission from a few developers to use their source.

That's the very good news....
Custom H2OS may be better ..
Any way ???
So for me it's either ashwins cm13 or purity. But what all custom ROMs currently lack is encryption.
That is one thing (I know it is hard to implement) I really would like to see in the next builds as it is for me an essential feature when you are using a custom recovery and an unlocked bootloader. I hope there will be some focus on it within the next weeks.
The only option for now is: stay on stock

Cyanogenmod: why are there no stable release?

I'd like to use CM12.1 (marshmallow) but I realize there still are no stable release? Why? Is it not good enough yet?
I've had a pretty bad experience with CM on my old Galaxy S4 so I'm a little afraid to remove the stock recovery and ROM from my Moto X Play. I want to make sure that it's bug free (or as buggy as stock) and suitable for day use. In other words I want to flash it and know it's fully reliable. Given the fact that there are only nightly releases, are they reliable enough for this?
Thanks

I can't vouch for the latest releases, as my xplay has been broken for like 3 months now, but being a nightly doesn't inherently make it unstable. Stable builds are usually relabeled nightlies. I say give it a shot. You can always go back to stock if you don't like it, unless you're speaking about voiding warranty

Oh! I thought nightlies were unstable releases. So before yours broke, you had a good experience? No problem with camera or other stuff?
It's not really a question of warranty but rather just not having any issues when I need it to work. For instance, with my Galaxy S4, the camera kept crashing while I was out with my kids so I lost time trying to make it work when I wanted to take a picture. That's the kind of thing I wouldn't want happening just because I got another ROM.
Indeed I did (have a good experience). If you're every unsure of a nightly, head to the thread. You'll usually find one or several people commenting if it's no good.

Yeah I had a look (I just realized I was talking about CM13 not 12.1) but given there are now 205 pages I thought I'd ask about the nightly situation in a different thread.
I think I may try it and restore it from the ROM available in the forum.
Oh and I keep wondering, given Motorola never actually released the ROM, how can someone make it available?
I m using nightly for like 3 months ......and I can say nightly is far better than stock if you are looking for customization and speed. I recently tried to go back to stock 6.0.1 but that experience is so "LAGGY" that I again return back to CM.I can say that CM nightly build working best for me with my requirements(like gaming and also photography and editing and HEAVY Customization and many more ) . and about custom recovery,it's a must have tool I suggest as with that I can return back to my previous builds. SO i recommend to go for NEW CM build, but in the end it's upto you.
and if u r still fearing about NIGHTLIES then flash the custom recovery(twrp) and then make backup of whole stock system and then do whatever U want to.
Btw this is the wrong forum to discuss things

a new rom? grass is always greener

Hi all,
Have been using the 1+5 since launch day, bought this beast at midnight on launch day and since then it's just amazed me....but I've been stuck picking a ROM due to the encryption decryption worry, I'm currently decrypted on xXx
What ROM are you using and why?
Not looking for the best, just for the points of why one over another.
Cheers.

Different ROMs are build above different sources -- OOS, AOSP, LineageOS... -- and contain various modifications -- theming options, kernel tweaking, features ported from other devices, ability to streamline the system experience, stellar stability or release-early-release-often, etc. Every ROM is different, though at some point they offer more of less similar features -- eck, it's all Android at the core! Still, they represent what their devs feel is important for a joyful experience. Read the first post of a topic, you should have a general idea of what you get.

Thanks, maybe I didn't explain it enough, what I meant was what do you use and prefer and why?
What features sell you the ROM of your choice over others.
I think you can see by the amount of phones I've had that I've seen quite a few.
What are you using at the moment and why?
Benefit over OOS?
I've always been in love with Codename Phoenix, and I still am. I flashed everything there is out there, and every kernel. My conclusion: either OOS, or Phoenix. All the others either have some bugs or annoying problems. I choose Phoenix over OOS because it is just as smooth if not even smoother & faster while providing much more features than OOS. Also, 2 stable builds a month. That's much faster updates than OOS.

The guy deleted all of the G+ and xda threads, because he hated the drama. All he wanted to do at the end of the day is just share the builds he makes with his friends and his loyal users, so he only just has a telegram where he posts fully stable builds around two times per month. The rom also has OOS cam working. The ROM itself is closed source, but it's stellar, so I am sure there's a reason behind him making it closed source. I bet he is some ex developer of some other mainstream rom who really knows his stuff.
The rom that give Codename Phoenix a head to head competition is AOSIP, I have used both and settled down on latter.

Aye i was looking at that one, again though it aims towards encrypted devices, I'm currently decrypted and have fallen foul of the memory becoming unreadable and thus losing data before, that noverity is that all you flash after the rom?

In that order right?

I went with AICP, firmware 5.1 at this point is needed with it. Modded Gcam working, modded oneplus cam also working. Alot of features, uses LOS and others for base. if your a flashaholic like myself they have nightlies close to every night even. If you want a custom kernel most of the LOS compatble ones (EX, Flash, Franco) work. Battery life is great, and I like the feature set. Eneough tweaking I dont need substratum to have the look I want. Using Magisk 14.4 beta for root. solid eneough to be a daily driver for sure. Bluetooth works perfect for me as well, no wifi issues.
Still using Pure Fusion 7.1.2, as it's aosp-based yet has oos camera fully working(with portrait and slow-mo).

Not a worry for me that, I've got a Lumie that gets brighter in the morning and tweets at me, wakes me up better than a normal alarm.
How's theming on pure fusion? Been having some issues with my preferred theme lately, in fact so many themes these days don't work.
Google just wants to be lighter and lighter, how they haven't got a dark side I'll never know.
Besides robbing everyone's data
Just like OP, i'm running xXx oos based rom since the beginning, and i'm pretty happy with it.
I'm interested in trying some custom roms, but i've read almost everywhere that custom roms can't get close to camera quality of OOS, is this still true ?
I don't mind flashing any magisk camera mod module if that could help :good:

Is MUIU removed when installing custom ROM?

I am considering getting a Xiaomi Mi 9T. My goal is to install Lineage OS. I have no experience with Xiaomi and have no clue what MIUI is or how it interacts with Android. If I install Lineage or some other ROM does MIUI remain somehow? If it does remain, are there any advantages or disadvantages?

No!
Doing that you get the Lineage ROM stuff that is pure Android OS and has nothing kept from MIUI rom.
Nope it is not correct. If you will install MIUI nbased ROM it will still remain, if you will install AOSP ROM or Cyanogen based ROM, then it will not remain. It depends on firmware itself.

No, yes is meaning it will be remove, as your question !Is MIUI Removed after installing custom ROM? ask
If you wipe the system partition, even before flash any ROM, MIUI is gone!
If you choose to flash a non MIUI based ROM (lineage, AOSP, Oxygen OS) you will have nothing from MIUI (granted, there are some custom ROMS that are MIUI Base, but those are MIUI).
There will be some Xiaomi stuff on the very low level, such as the Radio and WIfi Firmware are untouched. But even on Stock MIUI, those low level stuff aren't MIUI, but need for the phone to work.
You seam like are new to this, maybe just try it as it comes,IMHO you gonna be missing a lot of features if going to aosp.

Yes, I am new to installing custom ROMS. I have only owned two phones, Samsung Galaxy Plus and a MotoG3. I successfully rooted both, and installed a custom ROM on the Galaxy long after I quit using it just for the experience. My current goal is to find a mid-ranged cost phone that is fairly easy to install a custom ROM and ween myself away Google. I was hoping to have a phone not tied to a Google e-mail account. The Mi9t seemed to have excellent specs for the cost. I was skeptical only because of my ignorance of MUIU. I always value the input from XDA members.

I can see why you said Lineage OS (Cyanogenmod), it was the first ROM I installed on my galaxy S2 using the cyanogenmod installer:laugh: it seems to have been removed though... Those were the days where it was pretty simple. However, it is time to move on from Lineage OS and look at other ROMs that are simply less buggy and offer more stability whilst having a bunch of features.
I am still on stock and locked but Evolution X seems like the number one ROM on this phone as of now.
The pro version of this phone has more/better development as kernel sources are out which is crucial to developing a stable ROM. Unfortunately for whatever reason we still do not have it on this device. But there are still good ROMs on here with great battery life and faster fingerprint unlock. AOD may be a bit buggy when unlocking via FP but I can't really say anything as I am still on stock.
I do like MIUI, can't lie.

As long as you double check the instructions and follow them you will be fine, then, updating simply requires you to flash the zip file via recovery (twrp).
I like this phone a lot, came from a galaxy note 4.

Please recommend the most stable Android 10 rom

Itching to try Android 10.
Which is the most stable rom?
Thanks.
Using Havoc now, ok so far.
But I'm not using it much because backup phone only.
Better read other use post in the thread as well.
Well, there's no such thing as "stable rom" in my opinion. Almost every Android 10 ROM by now is stable enough to be a daily driver. But it goes without saying that you will be facing few bugs because that's how Custom ROMs are.
Tip: Try any ROM(s) and find what suits you best
Try EvolutionX.

Evolution Rom,
Using Havoc (Latest build) + Bit Gapps for a week now! No major issues found, though you may see casual freezes (got them mostly in Chrome, maybe app issue) and slow charging. Using stock kernel and not rooted.
Everybody thank you for your suggestions.
I have been using custom roms since Android Ice cream sandwich but believe it or not official Custom Roms on my old Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 literally had 0 bugs , but now in newer phones custom roms always have 1 or 2 quirks that forces me change it.
Well as for the Zenfone, all I want is stable gcam support and less lag than stock rom. I don't have too many demands. The reason I go back to stock rom is that, for some weird reason, Mobile data didn't work too well(pie roms). Vodafone 4g took tooooo long to turn on and speeds were terrible, absolutely unusable.
Didn't try 10 roms, so may be they might be better in this aspect.
