My S8 (SM-G950FD) suddenly died on me - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I was just browsing Facebook on my SM-G950FD, and then suddenly the screen goes black. I thought to myself "Well, I guess the app just crashed, maybe a hard reset will do the trick!". However, I was WRONG. The phone won't even boot in download mode or recovery mode. The "home button" won't even vibrate. It's really not responding to any of my inputs. So I then tried plugging it into both a Mac, and a PC. No recognition whatsoever. Tried plugging it into my charger. No LED indicator or anything.
It leads me to being really confused and worried. How can I revive my phone? I need your help. :crying:

Currently trying to charge it but to no avail as of now. Device gets slightly hot but no power still.

Deep discharge bug possibly. But still probably a bad battery

ooofff.. that sounds nasty.
You say the green LED is coming ON for a second when it's plugged into the pc.
Are all the ABD and/or flash drivers correctly installed?
I hope it's not a brick.

Yeah!! When i connect it in flash mode the LED stays for a second and then disappears. I did nothing that could possibly brick the phone!!! I just switched off my phone when i was about to start with my exam. After about 2 hours i switched it on and it didn't boot. And by the way when i press the power button a green LED blinks.
Try to take out the battery for a while and try to flash it again.
Another idea is to take out the battery, and while holding the back button on the phone and having the dialogue to put the phone in flash mode in flash tools, first put in the USB cable and then the battery.
Hey guys!!! My phone is back now. I just reflashed it. Thank u everyone for helping me out

Can you get into recovery? Your power button might be dead

Not that I know of. Your power button is dead I presume. If you see the battery charging animation it should mean your motherboard / main board is still alive..
Sent from Halo.
if that is true

If this is true, do you have a suggestion for me?
I can not find anything on here with my similar situation. I dropped my nexus in the water. Put it on rice for like5 days. I charged it and got a charge signal, but when I powered it on, as soon as it got to the main screen it auto powers off. I replaced the battery with a new one AND did a factory reset. It still does the same thing.

which main screen? The Nexus main screen or the normal home screen?
It could either be
A - You might have low battery, leave it plugged in for a few hours and try turning it on
B - Your main/mother board is dead.

[Q] N4 dead not loading & no Recovery Mode?!

Hallo,
I've got a N4 Stock and yesterday the screen just went black. The phone is not loading (no battery sign and no LED lighting).
I already tried to go to Recovery Mode via pressing Power+VolumeDown while plugging in. Unfortunately only thing I get is a solid red LED for ca. 10 seconds and then nothing.
I assumed that the battery died because of temperature shock since I had been jogging in the cold just before the phone died. But battery change unfortunately didn't help (still the same response. Am I supposed to perform some sort of reset after battery change?)
My question is following: any chances to rescue the phone or even more important to retrieve data from it?
Thanks in advance!
I would really appreciate any help

try holding power and volume up for 1 minute with the device unplugged (it simulates a battery pull) after 1 minute, release the power and vol up buttons and plug the device in. You should see a blinking red LED after doing this, and it should start charging. If it remains on a solid red LED after trying the above, im afraid it may be bricked.

Unfortunately it didn't help. Also I think the solution targets a battery problem. Maybe I haven't made it clear - the battery is already exchanged. Therefore I assume ScumDroid is right and the phone is bricked indeed.
Charge your phone using usb ...for some time ...let it charge and leave it

Can you find a wireless charger and try with that to charge your phone?
It's a hard guess, but u dont lose anything to try.

Phone died now no response from anything

So my phone was at around 40% today, when it decided to die on me. In my pocket, don't know what happened, or how. I have tried charging it, and trying to get to twrp, but with no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I don't know if I should try taking out the battery, or for how long i should charge it?

I have tried that, and no response, phone also does not heat up when plugged in either.
What do you mean by SOD?? Is it fully dead at this point considering it shut off at 40% and now I can't get any response?

SOD is "Sleep Of Death"... Basically the kernel can't wake up from deep sleep, but if you held the power that long it should have forced a hard reboot.
Does it show anything at all in device manager when you connect it?

Ah ok got it. But yeah i figured it should've responded to the power button being held down.
Shows nothing in device manager, and adb devices returns nothing

Nothing at all? Not even a Qualcomm QDLoader device? Hmm... Not good.
I would try different USB cable and charger combos... But at this point opening it and disconnect/reconnect battery might be best chance but honestly most phones in this condition never work again.

Nothing at all haha. It doesn't seem good at all. I'll try the battery, but you're probably right, I'm guessing it's done now and not going to work again.
Thanks for your help, most likely time for a new phone
Same happened on an s4. It was that the power button was trapped. Try to hit your phone on the power button

I don't know if this would be the case, I'll try disconnecting the battery, but it would've been super unexpected for the battery to crap out, as it has been performing fairly well and was not really showing any age until now.

Not to get your hopes up... But sometimes you can just disconnect the battery, wait 5 minutes, then reconnect it, and it will take off.

There's always the old freezer trick. Put it in a plastic bag then into the freezer for a couple of minutes and then plug it into a computer. I've had to do this before (unresponsive after a modem upgrade) but nothing over 5 minutes. This was way back in the Gingerbread days...
I know this is probably something weird, but the same thing happened with my X Style. Phone was working fine and then suddenly stopped working after a reboot (died after turn off). Nothing helped me till now. No idea what to do.

I had mine plugged in and suddenly it started flashing the white charging screen, then I tried to boot it up, and got about 0.75 seconds in when it shut off and started randomly flashing the charging screen every couple of minutes on and on... Has to have been a hardware failure, something has to have fried inside. But try what acejavelin posted a few days up, see if holding the power button 30 seconds works for it to power up. When I did that mine tried to power up, but then shut off, you will maybe have different luck though

I just considered mine dead because of it's sporadic behaviour trying to boot up. Plus @acejavelin said most phones in this state don't come back, I actually went ahead and got a OnePlus5 and retired the mxpe

last night it was fine, when i woke up this morning it was showing a black screen instead of the AOD and the charging led was green so i force shut it down by holding the power button, and then it didnt turn on charge or anything. the samsung logo wont show up either. I'd really appreciate it if anyone has a solution, and thanks!
