Tip: avoid HTC Weather Clock Widget - Battery Hog - One (M9) General

I have found that the HTC 'Weather Clock' widget takes up a lot of battery.
As a test, I removed it and my phone used up roughly 50% for about 12 hours with moderate usage (including some overnight time).
After I added it back, I checked after an hour and its WakeLock (UID: com.htc.widget.weatherclock.util.WidgetJobService) moved right to the top of the list and my battery was draining faster.
If you use the separate 'Weather' and 'Digital Clock' widgets instead, you get the same information and it takes up the same amount of space without the battery drain. It doesn't look as elegant, but at least your battery will last longer. It's not a huge difference, but it was still quite significant for me.

Report Your battery use Systematically (for comparison)

I have looked thru many battery use threads and it is quite difficult to compare or to draw any conclusion on whether there is some issue with battery use (i.e. whether battery drain is "normal").
How about we report based on 2 criteria:
- Idle means phone totally not being used + screen is off.
- Constant use means time you are using the phone (i.e. screen is on).
I know that everyone's phone setting may be different but at least we can know what is the reported range. Instead of depending on built-in software take readings, why dont we just take note of the battery use manually. For idle, use a period of 6hrs or more. Pls also state the settings you have.
Here is my figure for today:-
Firmware: JG4 (Singtel)
IDLE: (13% drain overnight ~9.3 hrs) : 1.4% per hour
(3G/background data/sync-on, wifi/gps/bt-off, weather/fb/tw/stock widgets update hourly)
CONSTANT: (19% drain over 57minutes): 18% per hour.

ok, my phone battery life is messed up. Help please

Hi guys, this is not another rant post about battery life, but i'm starting to become really
frustrating with it, i tried almost all the solutions provided here on the forum but i can't
simply get the **** out of it. This is my story:
I bought the phone as used around 1 month ago (the guy who sold me the phone used it for around 1
month as well). I was quite satisfied about the device, but i noticed almost immediately the damn
poor battery life. With stock battery, my stats are (this is an average of the last 3 times i
used it):
Average duration: 27 hours
Average display usage: 2.5 hours
Average display %: around 45%
Average standby: Cell 30%, phone 15-16, other apps and android core 1-2
This with the following configuration:
3g off
gps off
background data off
bluetooth off
display brightness set to the minimum
no background applications or live wallpapers
No animations
No vibration feedback
No sounds
No widgets
Removed 5 touchwiz panels out of 7
Wi fi on (actually i noticed some small improvements by leaving it off)
The strange thing is, i noticed that the phone drains a LOT of battery while in standby. During
the night (7-8 hrs standby) my phone can drains up to 20% of the battery life. I read on the
forum that a lot of you guys have a battery drain overnight of around 2-3% which is 10 times
lower than mine.
So i thought about 2 possible causes:
1) Software related(processes or applications running in background)
2) Hardware related (battery ****ed up by the previous owner; phone not going in standby correctly)
Regarding the problem 1) i tried almost every solution provided here on the forum. Updated to new roms (JM5 and JM8) installed ultraslim roms, installed battery saving applications and task killers, performed some exotic "fixes" (removed battery stats file, tried to completely drain the battery following some procedures explained here on the forum). Nothing helped. To check case 2) i bought a cameronsino extended battery. Well with this battery i have exactly twice the duration of the stock battery. Last night i charged it to full before going to bed. This morning, when i woke up, the phone drained 10% (!) of the battery in 8 hours. So the stock battery is not the problem. What should i think then? that My phone is ****ed up? is There no chance to obtain a decent battery life? How is possible that a lot of guys have almost twice my battery life with stock battery?
I guess your phone may not be going into the sleep mode correctly ... try using system panel (from the market) and figure out which rogue app is causing the problem. Mine usually drains 4-5% at night.. (jm8 stock + voodoo)...

[Q] How to know which application keeps the phone awake

Hello everyone, new poster here.
Just got an arc last week and have been enjoying it. Big gripe was with battery life but it seemed to have improved slightly after killing the battery completely and charging back to 100%. My phone was at 100% when I went to sleep last night, woke up 8 hours later with around 90% battery life ( not sure if thats descent or not, can I get a base for comparison).
However, I used the phone a bit this morning and then put it back in my pocket. Checking it 2 hours later, I see in the battery monitor that the phone has been awake the full time even though the screen is off. There must then be a service or app keeping it awake? How long does it take before the phone goes to sleep?
I am not using green power or juice defender, no apps are open besides email, baconreader (reddit app) and normal google stuff.
I am also using the following widgets: beautiful widgets big and weather forecast widget, google search, youtube and baconreader.
How long does you guy's battery last?
thanks

Android System - Keep Awake = Uptime

Recently flashed my HTC Panache (Canada) with RoyalGinger 3.0
Noticed that under Battery Use, Android System is dominating the other items:
Android System 43%
Cell standby 22%
Phone idle 17%
Voice calls 11%
Display 7%
When I click Android System it shows:
CPU total 3m 0s
CPU foreground 3m 0s
Keep awake 9h 42m 2s
Included packages:
VPN Services
Status Bar
Google Backup Transport
Account and Sync Settings
Theme Chooser
Android System
RoyalGinger settings
Settings Storage
Settings
I only rooted it 2 days ago, so don't know when this started. This morning though, I installed Go SMS Pro which seems to be the only significant change I made in the morning. On the battery graph display, there is a brief period of time when it shows the phone was not awake in the morning, and since then the entire thing is blue (phone awake for 9h+ straight)
Fairly moderate usage. Display shows 2h 39m. Nothing is set to sync except Google which should be pushed anyway
Right now, battery life is less than what I was expecting, having read some comments about RoyalGinger. Basically, I'm getting maybe 1.1x of stock Sense, when I was sort of expecting 2x. Hoping that solving this issue would get those battery results.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Moto Z2 Force before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I haven't been able to just drain the battery with this screen time from full to 80% in battery saver mode trying to get every drop out of the phone. This wasn't heavy gaming or CPU intensive stuff, just YouTube and some social media. Still great time compared to the sot of my M9
4 hours on the first full drain.
I've managed to get from 100% to 8% with screen on time being about 5 and a half hours with only using the battery saving from 15% I'd add my screen shot but I'm unsure how you add them on here
Okay but I've been listening to music since 7:00 this morning and I'm at 53% now ( it's 4:00 so it's been about 9 hours )
IDK if this helped me at all but I used root booster and used stability boost
4 hours and 5mins for my first full drain using all features in Greenify with aggressive doze. Also have L Speed installed suing it's balanced profile.
I've hit 5hrs SOT for my 1st three days of owning this device in a row.
Hello all, I am the new owner of Tmobile Z2 force. I have owned this device for a month. There is something I like to say about battery life. For those who are experiencing short battery life, there is something consuming the battery. I have found the cause.
On the homescreen on stock launcher:
Clock widget- if you tap the tiny weather icon above the time in the clock widget, the weather app opens up. Then click the three horizontal line menu on the top left of the app. A pop-out menu is open. Then click on weather settings. As you can see, the current location enables by default. This option causes using GPS constantly; it's like a live GPS constantly. This drains the battery so much. Toggle it off and manually add the location helps battery life much better by a huge margin.
On the system menu:
Connected Devices tab- toggle off the NFC and Bluetooth for those of you who don't use them very much. It also drains the battery too.
Security & location tab- Click on location. Then click on scanning. From there, you can see WIFI and Bluetooth scanning. Toggle both of these off. It drains battery like crazy.
Mode: There are different kind of mode- high accuracy, battery saving, and device only. I use battery saving mode. I test with device only, it consumes battery more than high accuracy, but not battery saving mode. Only use high accuracy if you rely on google map navigation a lot. My opinion...
After changing those settings, I was able to get 4 hours and half of screen on time at the most with 17 to 18 hours on battery AT 50% level in the end of the day. I did not charge halfway. That is pretty amazing for this tiny 2700 mah given in this phone. I'm blown away.
I also like to mention that I am a light to moderate user. I use 9gag, chrome (occasionally), greader (rss reader), whatsapp, youtube (occasionally), google hangout, ip webcam, gmail, outlook, and skype for business.
There are several factors that affects the battery life such as bad wifi. In my work, there is a wifi, but it drains my phone like hell. My wifi at home doesn't drain my phone battery. It's easy on it. That's something to look out for.

Thank you so much. You cannot believe how drastically my battery life improved. I was barely getting 2 and half screen on time. You are a savior. Thanks again.

Thank you very much, I just bought my phone and was a little disappointed with battery life, GPS is a real battery drainer.
i kinda wish active use went into battery stats, because i stream podcasts and music all day at work, at the end of my day my phone is somewhere around 40% and only has like 2hrs of SOT but has been on "standby" for close to 18-20 hours by the time i plug it in at night
Great SOT
I'm very happy with this phone, durable, slim, blazing fast and modular.
For one of the thinnest phone with SD835 im very pleased with battery life.
Screenshot with Oreo Update
Normal use, spotify for an hour or so, a lot of instagram, some facebook and twitter, and Youtube over bluetooth on my car, moderate web browsing without using battery saver and remaining 8% of battery
I have over 7h sot by watching videos, playing music and messaging by using 5GHz Wifi, mobile network in standby. Rest of battery by 25%.
Here screenshot, hope it's working now. Have do it convert to jpg.
Ok, don't work. But, 7h, 13m is the sot.
This phone inpressed me with SOT! I owned a Moto Z and battrey was a dissapointment. While this has a 2750mah battrey it cant be much better than this!Planning to buy a powermod but now its not needed:angel:
Getting 8Hrs+ SOT on Oreo

Yes, it's great. Much better as on my old phone. Sure the 10nm chip is here very helpful. And the OLED panel, which is much better as just Full HD. I see a big difference between just 400dpi and this. Watching film on this, so important. I'm short-sighted, so I can really see it. My battery had 2733mAh at the beginning and now 2705mAh after last security update. What's you capacity?

Screen on time is excellent! I'm quite surprised and impressed because the phone's battery isn't that large.
Regularly getting between 5 and 6 hours SOT!
My highscore: 6:58
