Crazy is, you didn't check it yourself

Of course not, I'm not willing to possibly screw myself LOL

If anyone (including me) expecting this update to fix poor signal, it DOES NOT.
The reason why i want to get root thats NOT on 13A with dirtysanta is because kernel is messed up.
There are too many problems with kernel files that come with dirtysanta root method.

Anyone try it out yet? I'm betting it does.

It almost can't break the root exploit as the kernel that comes with this firmware isn't even the one you are rooting with. Since you flash a legitimate Samsung kernel to the phone, it has no bearing on blocking it.
If they did block it, they would have blocked the ability to flash the engineering kernel (which is highly unlikely) and other legitimate kernels like the one that comes with this update. It just makes little sense that this will "patch" the root method since there's nothing to really "patch".

I have G930V with root and xposed, if I do today's new software update, will it still have all my stuff including root? Please get back to me.
what is the baseband ?

I bet you won't be even able to install the update OTA if you are already rooted. You probably need to return to stock first and then update, then root if possible.
Just curious, why don't you try 935U firmware instead of the crappy bloated and neutered Verizon rom?

[Q] [Sprint users] Anyone on the LS997ZV5 update yet?

** Update**
Seems after the LS997ZV4 update was pulled off, they changed it to LS997ZV5 instead and just got it 12/26/16
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I've been waiting for the OTA update on my phone, I have been manually checking for updates too but nothing happens!
The release date says 12/5/16 and I usually can get updates by manually checking with other android devices, not this time though..

Thanks for your response!
rooting isn't important for me as it was before lollipop, there's not much bloatware on the V20 and ads are being taken care of with adguard.
It's just bug fixes and security patches anyways

Yes I know! Security and bug fixes are important..
ls9997zv4 update no longer shown on sprint website
I saw that update listed on Sprint's site last week and was also frustrated not to get it. It must have had an error because it has been pulled. We are lucky not to received flawed firmware.
They probably pulled it to fix the exploit they have found for rooting the phone.

wooo i caused something!
Is there a way to stop the update from appearing or stop the phone from checking? I would like to accept updates only once people here assure us that it won't break the root method, given I may root at some point.

I just got updated to LS997ZV5 Dec 1 Security patches, fixed an issue with loud speaker and stuff I don't remember.
I got it on 12/24. I had to click "check for update" quite a few times for it to show up.
Same here. I hoped it would have fixed the speaker distortion problem. But it did nothing for me.

to be Honest, never had the issue..
I was hoping for maybe camera software fine tuning
I also did a full restore, I like to start fresh with updates
So is it confirmed that the root method on the ZV5 no longer works? I just got my V20 off swappa and it already had the ZV5 installed. :crying:

Awesome! So you just followed the Dirty Santa guide from the other thread and you were golden? Is everything functional and working properly?

I read everything I could find about rooting this thing and read all the comments that the bootloader exploit was fix with the December patch.but nothing convinced me not to...Im a old Samsung guy, Note 2, 3 & 4 so rooting without having Odin to back me up was a tad daunting as well as having to remember how to use ADB....I took a chance and it worked......I got the sd corrupt error ( no biggie, I had backups) and battery drain is kinda high ( no sprint custom kernels yet) ....of course it not being a stock sprint rom things like wifi calling, sprint zone and voicemail are missing ( but Team Dev now hows a stock rooted sprint rom out, Ill try that in the am) everything is running just fine...installed all my apps, made a titanium backup and a twrp backup.....

Thank you! I may wait to see how the stock sprint ROM works and then I'll jump in. Definitely won't update with any security patches in the meantime

flash fire and ota.

Is it possible to use flash fire to update our devices to the new OTA? If so, I might actually consider rooting.
Once rooted you never want to take an ota
Sent from my LG-H910 using Tapatalk
Flash fire updates with OTA while keeping root. I just don't know if flash fire works with the v20
I am also very curious about this!
T-Mobile just released an OTA update, and I heard about FlashFire. But opening it leads to "UNTESTED ON LG DEVICES!" so I'm worried. Can anyone confirm that FlashFile can handle this?

I tried it. It will not update. I just went back to stock. Don't need root.

US996 unlocked finally getting it's first OTA...

hoping it doesn't break root. it's the update that ends in F. crazy that we're just now getting it while apparently Tmobile is on J already. crazy.
I delayed the update until it can be determine whether this update will affect ROOT.

Don't think TWRP can install the file "dlpkgfile".
Any ideas?
I'm also waiting to see if it will remove root or not. Hopefully someone can test it.
I reinstalled the LG default recovery in "img" form, and attempted to run the update. Rebooting, it went into LG update mode, 1/2 (I assume 1 of 2), and stopped with an error that I wasn't quick enough to write down.
The device rebooted, and came up with warning "This device is suspected in rooting". No LG updates will install" or similar.
I used FlashFire and restored my TWRP recovery partition, and am now going to wait until someone more versed in update manipulation changes the update file "dlpkgfile" into something TWRP can work with.
I tried.
WTF! the update disabled HD calling for me on Verizon and now I don't even have simultaneous talk and data! WTF!

Anyone try recowvery with 10f yet?
Anyone know the Android security patch level?
it's the December patch

anyone else realize they dropped volume a lot on here??? volume is so low now compared to what it was. kinda annoying. I have to jack it up just to hear it now whereas it used to get a lot louder.
Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk
Dont do it
NEVER EVER take OTA's if your rooted, you will most likely unroot your phone. A custom ROM if it has a good developer behind it will stay updated by said Dev, your asking for trouble by loading OTA's while your rooted.
You've been warned
lmao cmon man.. look at my post count, look at my years on xda.. you think I'm some kinda android noob? hahah. anyway, point is, taking the F update didn't mess with getting root on us996 so I took it to see if it did any good.. but i guess lg's speaker "fix" was to lower the volume in general.

My post wasn't directed specifically at you. I see that question about OTA;s all the time, or they took an OTA and now thier phone brews coffee, that was directed at anyone willing to read and try to take a little advice.

Downgrade vs995 oreo to nougat?

Hey guys, I just bought a a vs995 from ebay new in box hoping it would come in nougat so I could root. But it came stock with 8.0.0
and a security patch date of 10-1-2018. Software version of 20C. Any way to downgrade or root this thing? Thanks for any recommendations.

All the ones I've seen are for downgrading from unlocked /rooted oreo. Mine is completely stock and I haven't seen anything for that.

Reread them again. They're downgrading in order to root (mostly), not with root.
But the TLDR of those guides is LG UP, in upgrade mode, with whatever firmware (kdz).
Anyway here's a link to the vs995 thread where the guy made videos and has links to lgup and one of the old firmware that can be used to root. If you want to browse or download a different one this site is ok but slowish
