Hello, so I have an issue with the power button of my Xiaomi Mi A1, when I try to lock my phone, it simply doesn't work(nothing happens), I first thought this is a hardware issue and that the button was faulty, but when I double pressed it(a shortcut to open the camera), it worked, so I'm confused, because the button itself apparently works, it just doesn't lock my phone.
Thanks!
I'm having the same issue.

Hello, so I fixed it, basically, I wanted to cope with it, until fixed, and I installed an app, which allows me to lock/unlock my phone by double tapping, just search on Play Store: "Lock/unlock phone with double tap". Then I was able to lock my phone, but funny enough, I wasn't able to unlock it xD, I tried pressing the power button now, and it worked! It needed like a reset or something.
So:
1) Download an app which allows you to lock your phone by tapping.
2) Lock your phone.
3) Press the power button.
This worked for me, but be sure you have a way to unlock your phone, if it doesn't work for you(in case you find another solution)!

Did you turnoff 'jump to camera' in settings->system->gestures?

Whenever I put my hermes into a desk or car cradle, none of my soft keys function. This includes the red and green call buttons. If I pull the phone out of the cradle, they work again.
I pondered over this problem for weeks and then it dawned on me; the dam camera button was being permanently pressed down by the cradle. The camera program never loaded because I have long since disabled that function since I was always hitting it by accident.
So, is there anyway to permanently disable the camera button? Has anyone found a cradle that doesn't affect the camera button?
go to settings, personel, buttons and then select the camera button. select no function for it. this should get rid of the pesky little problem.

As I said in my post, I've already done that.
My power button gets stuck and as you know when you long press it it reboots the phone. So basically my phone is just constantly rebooting and rebooting, its practically unusable. I need help if anyone knows a way to disable the function of power button, I mean so the power button wont do any function anymore, or swap it with another button.
I had the same problem. Got the button replaced, it worked for a month or so and I started getting the random reboots again. A search on the internet reveals that this is a common problem with the S3, and I doubt they fixed the issue for the S3 neo.
1.5 years of use and my power button is broken, my volume buttons are mushy and my camera doesn't focus at all. The build quality on this phone is a joke.
You'll probably have to have your power key replaced as well. Or do what I did and remove it from the motherboard. You won't believe how flimsy the solder is. I now use the accessibility shortcut button to lock / unlock my phone. It's a hassle and it takes up screen real estate, but at least it works.

Mine stopped doing it now but I'm sure it will start again. You are right, build quality of this phone is really lame. That part on the sides that looks like metal is mostly worned off from my phone. Camera focus is crap and volume is lower than before, I can barely hear notifications. Maybe I'll remove the button too, but I'm concerned about how to boot the phone if it turns off.
You can turn on the phone by connecting the charger, immediately booting into download mode (before the battery icon comes up) and restarting from there. It's not the best solution, but at least I have a functional phone until my oneplus x arrives sometime this week
try to do this

That's actually a fantastic idea. I thought about flashing cm that has no offline charging and booting that way, but this is better solution lol.

You can try nova launcher since it has a gesture for double tap to lock screen, or maybe a 3rd party app.
use soft lock to lock screen without pressing power button
I'm facing with a serious bug (or maybe wrong configuration?). I activate the option to quickly launch the camera app by double tapping the home button.
So when im in my lock screen, which normally would requires my finger or pin to enter, when i double tap the home button, it takes me to the camera and I found out that I can simple press Back button and it will take me to the home screen (NOT the lock screen).
I've also noticed that even with camera double tap turn off, I can also double tap the HOME button to get into the phone.
Is there anyone else have this issue?
P/s: I've also tried changing my finger while pressing double tap to make sure, it still bypasses the security. (and no it's not a clone phone, It's straight from AT&T). Stock Firmware
Should I try reflashing the stock?
Mine goes back to the lock screen perfectly

Dude by the time you double click home button it recognizes ur fingerprint. For checking u can tell someone else (whos fingerprint is not registered ) to double click it would not bypass.

I seriously doubt that this is the problem. I have fingerprint unlock set on my phone and it works properly going back to the lock screen when backing out of the camera.
Unless of course the OP is holding the button for a long time.

I thought I had the issue too. Then I double tapped with a finger I ain't registered to unlock the phone and it stopped. Probably just resting his registered finger too long on the home button
Hello everyone here,
I just run into trouble - a power button on my Galaxy J5 failed. Few days ago home button failed too.
Device is still on and running, so I need a quick check for not locking myself out.
1) after phone was locked - can volume keys wake the screen? (so I can enter e.g. an unlock pattern)
2) does J5 require to press power or home button to turn it on (e.g. after power down)
3) does J5 require to press power or home button to wake screen after it is restarted?
also, if anyone would like to suggest...
4) how can I access restart menu? or just restart the device?
5) any other issues I can run into?
6) can the be a software issue?
7) can a non-affiliated repair shop get this easily fixed or would they probably make things worse?
any advice is welcome!
phone is not rooted. Lock screen security (pattern) is now deactivated.
Model SM-J510FN, J510FNXWUAQG1, Android 6.0.1,
thanks!
Plug in charging, if it wakes up its working!!
thanks for feedback!
yes, it is working I installed Gravity Screen app and it seems to be doing fine with turning screen on and off.
The only question left is what to expect if the battery should run off one day or I'll need to reboot the phone or take out the battery... I am afraid it expects pressing power button to start booting, but its not working... any ideas?

Yep.. Then you'll have to take it to the service centre, that's the only solution I can think of.. :silly:
today the power button misteriously started to act again. I'll stick to Gravity app for waking the screen and hope the button will work in rare cases when needed after powerdown....
thanks everyone for suggestions!
Hi guys!
What's happening its that I bought the phone online, it's basically like brand new! No damaged on the buttons or a si gles minor scratch.
The problem is that the phone is always pressing the power button, sometimes I get in to a loop of restart sometimes I can use the phone normally and even sometimes I am using the phone and it stats to lock it self or open the camera (that usually happen when you double tap the power button) I already contact Essential but, by the way I bought it I doubt that they will do something, this happens without need of touching the phone. So I am sure that this it's not a defect on the button directly
I was thinking on root the device and by any way, disable the power button, I already try with button remaper or apps like that but, they don't work with the power just with the volume which sometimes it press it self as well.
Thanks in advance
