R.I.P. Notely... You'll be missed... - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 General

It is my sad responsibility to to announce the passing of the very first repaired Samsung NotePro 12.2 AT&T SM-907a to operate free and clear from the long plagued BSOD issue...
...and the corresponding ignorance, lies, lazyness, and hubris of Samsung.
You were always there for me. You were my phone when I had no phone. You were my TV when I had no TV. You were my PC when I had no PC. You were my tablet. The tablet that has literally no replacement.
R.I.P. Notely, my friend....
:crying:

Oh yeah... One more thing.
If you have a black car, get a different color phone and/or tablet.
My bad...
...at least I found you 3 days later on the side of the highway, only feet away from your last digital scream, telling me where you were, when you...

Had the same issue with my first Note10.1 (2014) I bought another which my wife inherited when I bought my first Note Pro. That one died when a well meaning friend stuck my coffee cup in my bag without making sure that the lid was closed well (Perhaps maybe he thought my tablet was thirsty. It drowned instead (I wept a lot)), and I bought another. I'm still using it years later. This is still the irreplaceable friend though I wish that Samsung would replace it with an even more powerful baby with monster muscles.

I'm Currently in the market for a NotePro 12.2. WIFI only or AT&T version. Anyone know of one?
Ty

I found one on Gumtree a bit like Craigslist here in Australia for 300 AUD locally. Would you say it's still worth it in 2019 how does it hold up. Or would a mi pad 4 be a better option. I really love the idea of a 12 inch tablet like the iPad pro running stock android.

Like you I love my 12.2pro a1vwifi I have 3 of these tablets. Got the first dropped it with broken screen. Purchased another and dropped it like the first and was dead after. Got the 3rd and that flew of the car roof and that was destroyed on impact. So am back the the 1st tablet with all the screen broken but working . I bought a replacement screen from China and now 6mths after I haven't had the time to build a device from all 3 cos of twisted chassis .. I love the 12.2pro.. Haven't found another replacement and now am seriously thinking of a detachable chromebook.. Why isn't Samsung releasing another 12plus inch screen

A500 or Transformer

I have a skyrocket now and was looking to get a tablet...I'm leaning more to the Iconia mainly cuz of the USB connector and HDMI out. Anything else I should know like what to look for or should I wait for a newer version? Thanks for any help.

If you're just about to purchase one, this is the one you want with the pent core Tegra 3, Transformer Prime.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+...bolsp-app06-24?id=1218450204286&skuId=4038674
If you still want to be budget conscious then go with the a500 now. I've seen it as cheap as $350 here in the expensive great white north. If you want the Prime with a full size USB you are looking at $650 for the tablet and the keyboard dock. I'm not sure what we will see from Acer with their next gen tablet but if you want my honest opinion, a quad/pent core tablet isn't needed if you are running an A500 with KJY's ROM
In probably a couple months, about Feb, March latest, I believe Acer will release the A700/A701 series tablets. Quad core.
Will come with ICS.
Price should be online with current models.
The prime looks nice but is still missing the USB port from what I can tell. I guess dev. Support is low right now cuz its new. I was looking to get one to soon but maybe I'll wait til after the holidays.

Personally I wouldn't touch ASUS with a 10 foot pole after they intentionally screwed me on my netbook warranty a couple of years ago. They sent me on a wild goose chase bouncing between email and phone calls for three weeks until the warranty expired and changed the tune immediately to "sorry, warranty expired, go away." I used to buy all Asus products - especially motherboards - before that through my business, so I estimate they've lost at least $20k worth of sales from me since then.
And if I wanted to tote an entire laptop equivalent just to get a full size USB, I'd tote a small laptop. Between the two, the Acer still has my vote based on those two things.
I hear the Toshiba tablet has a full size USB and HDMI out as well, but looking at the pictures it looks a big thicker than the Acer. Haven't personally touched one of them yet.
The two worst complaints you'll hear on the Acer are the poor GPS reception and the screen. Personally I think complaints on the screen are fud. I'm an amateur photographer and love using the Acer to show off my work. GPS on a wifi only tablet is pretty useless anyway IMHO, but that's because the only thing I use GPS for is navigation - which kind of requires data when not at home.

Well, I agree, the display comments, are BS. Ok, it gathers fingerprints. And when you have the beach sun shining directly on it, what display doesn't have issues.
But, GPS works fine with me. No issues. But I agree, how fine do you want a GPS? Military Specs? If ya want military specs, you're hooking up with the wrong sats baby.

MY SPOUSE AND i owned a local retail/repair computer business.
Also recently we had a asus netbook there repair facility is here in our city. the camera quit working on the netbook . we had to mail it UPS SPECIAL SHIPPING to a facility that is less then 2 miles from me.. and it took 2 weeks to get it back... then two days after we got it back.. the screen cracked.. They said it was nothing to do with them.. but we know they had it taken apart..
very lousy tech support.
very horrible warranty support..
I would not know if acer is much better but i have been told they are. I do know HP ROCKS WHEN IT COMES to customer support .. but they dont make a tablet in the price range and not one with android...
what a loss of income for them..
Just don't pay full price for an a500 with all the new ones on the horizon. I got my 8gb for $230 not long ago. Sales like that will be more common after xmas.
Thanks everyone. I do appreciate it. I don't want to make this into a this vs that thread but more of a personnel experience being I love androind now ever since I got my atria and now the skyrocket. I didn't know if someone had both and could give a "more useful" opinion. I have a laptop and never touch it. I had the attic with the lapdock....never touched it LOL. I'm just looking for a new toy and I'm a flashaholic which I don't like to admit in public. Thanks again.

Ummm nothing personal ER, but you might want to Google HP tech support problems.
The ABSOLUTE worst reputation for doing warranty work in the business!
After my last experience with their lack of "wanting to cover a warranty issue", I'll never purchase another HP device as long as I live!

Should I buy nexus 4 ?

Hello ,
I am thinking of buying the nexus 4 . I love the nexus devices , i have nexus s and 7 .
I don't know if it worths buying it or i should wait till the next model come out .
Is there any other device in production that is better ?
Please let me know your opinion .
The phone is low cost and amazingly fast. Go for it. I got mine from a guy at work for $100 and I love it. It never lags or slows down at all. You won't be disappointed.

You can wait for the next nexus, but also keep in mind that it will be sold out very quickly , and you'll have to wait again.. I'd say you won't get your hands on one before dec/jan . so you do the math.

Johmama said:
The main pros of the Nexus 4 that I keep listing anytime I tell people about it are the following:
1. Price. $350 is pretty much half the price of any other competitor to the Nexus 4
2. Pure Android, updated directly from Google. As soon as a new version of Android is released, it's on the Nexus. Google develops Android FOR this device.
3. Design. Glass front and back, it's a solid phone. Looks sleek.
Now, newly-released phones do have slightly better hardware. But we're getting to the point of diminishing returns. We're packing so much hardware into these devices, you'll hard-pressed to find software that actually makes use of it. I think the only debate you should be having is buy the Nexus 4 now, or wait until the next Nexus comes out, possible during the holidays. That isn't to say this phone won't still be a solid phone then, but I can understand if some people wait to buy updated versions.
To answer your question: yes. It is definitely worth it. At $350, it's fiscally irresponsible NOT to buy a Nexus 4. Right now I'm paying $30/mo for a tablet plan on AT&T with 3gb of data. Having weird and crazy options like that don't seem to happen with other phones. I feel like the Nexus 4 is YOUR phone, not 80% your phone, 20% the manufacturer's.
Spoiler alert: I might be a little biased, but c'mon. It's a sweet phone.

Whether or not to buy a nexus 4, if you want a serious answer you might want to consider to not post it in N4 section.

I'd wait for the new Motorola phone, if everything is just a buzz, I'd def get the N4..
Get it if you need a disposable phone. Otherwise save for something good.
And don't buy an N4 while travelling (as I did) because chances are you'll need to RMA it and dealing with LG directly is not fun.

Speaking of the S4, Last week I was at the mall, at one of those Zagg Kiosk cuz I was going to get an Invisible Shield put on my Nexus 7, but I declined, but he was showing off his Galaxy S4, which seemed pretty nice. Bout 3 days ago, I stopped back by to get the invisible shield put on my Nexus 4 (I could do it myself, but they do a pretty good job getting it on).
After he was done, I inquired about the S4, seeing as I was deciding between a Nexus 4 and something like that. And he mentioned he no longer had his new S4, it was having too many problems and was buggy so he took it back and got an iPhone 5 (eww in my opinion but... interesting that he only had the S4 for a week and decided to take it bag for being buggy and unresponsive).
He did mention he would have gotten an Nexus 4, but he wanted to have something that day, and outside of T-Mobile (which he doesn't use), the carriers did not carry them (otherwise you'd have to order online).

It's an extremely thin, extremely durable screen protector that supposed to be pretty much invisible. I've used it on my old iPod Touch, and had it on my Desire-Z for over a year and a half without any problems, and I'm currently using their HD version on my Nexus 4 which retains a glass-like surface and actually seems to improve the color/clarity on the screen.
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/index.php
It can be a chore to apply, so I usually have the kiosk in the malls apply them for me (But they can cost upward to 15$ more than you could order them online just for them to do it). Though I had a more expensive "Write Right" brand protector on there that the t-mobile store put on, and it wasn't even close in quality to the invisible shield (so I took it back to the t-mobile store for a refund, and got the invisible shield instead).

Course bear in mind that my opinion is of course going to be bias'd by the fact that I actually have one . I own both a Nexus 7 and a Nexus 4, my mom owns a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0" which she's content with (she likes the Nexus 7, but wanted a front side camera).
I mainly got the Nexus 4 because for a fully unlocked phone it was inexpensive (plus T-Mobile allowed me to get it at 17/month for 24 month, rather than paying up front for it, so I see it as paying a 60$ interest on a loan that I just pay off each month).
Also like the Nexus 7, the N4 is nearly impossible to brick, easy to unlock, easy to root, comes with a clean AOSP rom already which also has a strong developer community, and because I'm planning on writing android apps down the road I figured what better choice of a phone.
Also The nexus 4, like the Nexus 7 will most likely continue to get android updates to the latest version for the next 2 maybe 3 years since it's made by google (as I recall even the original Nexus One can still officially get Jellybean on it straight from Google). So being able to use the device with the newest android update for the next few years without having to wait on the manufacture to decide if they will was also a plus for me as a developer-oriented buyer.
(HTC kind of burned me on that last bit with my Desire-Z, since the DesireHD was supposed to get 4.0.4/ICS but last minute they pulled it from the list of devices that was getting it, but least quallacom came thru and thus why we have so many jellybean roms for the desire-Z now).
The main two things I would want from the samsung side would be
1) Removable/extendable battery
2) microSD slot.
The one thing I don't like on the samsung... propriety USB/Power cable, why can't they just use microUSB or miniUSB like everyone else... but then again they do tend to mimic Apple to some degree.
#2 isn't as big a deal for the Nexus7 because I can just plug a thumbdrive into it via a USB-OTG cable, if for some reason I needed to copy something or perhaps play a large movie off the thumbdrive). Also the TWRP recovery natively supports USB-OTG so when I do a backup or restore, it can do it directly to/from a thumbdrive, without having to fill space on the device. Nexus 4 can do USB-OTG too, but requires a Y-split cable so you can plug up a portable power pack, since it won't provide power out of it's USB port like the Nexus7 will
I like all the advantages of the nexus devices . I am also starting to develop apps  see at the signature.
I have an incline on nexus 4 , but I must learn when the next one will be released .
Thanks man your answer is of great use for me ,:victory:

[Q] [B]Serious Dilemma, Sold Old Nexus, New coming in September, What to do ???[B]

Hello,
I am in a serious dilemma
I was anxiously waiting for the New Nexus 7 dubbed as Nexus 7 II. I was waiting for it like anything and checking it daily for months if anything new came up about the device until yesterday, it was officially announced.
However, I am very disappointed. The disappointment is not because of the device but due to the fact when it will release in the UK . I sold my nexus 7 first generation last week and my xperia so I could buy New nexus 7 and a new phone. Well, I love the new nexus but the problem is it won't release in the UK till September. I was expecting it to come to the UK the same week as it happened last year. Now without a tablet n a proper phone (using HTC incredible s in terrible condtion) I feel terrible. Hooked to technology and couldnot stay without it, I am not sure what to do.
To make matters worse, I be travelling to Malaysia/Thailand on august 9 and I won't be back by December due to some assignments.
I ask for suggestions what should I do.
I am going to get a phone for sure tomorrow so phone wouldnot be a problem.
My plan was to get a cheap phone and a Nexus 7 2 so I can manage between the two. One has to be cheap !
Hear are my choices, but if you think of anything better, please do not hesitate to reply.
1) Get a normal android phone for about GBP 100-150 max and get a cheap tablet and wait till December till I buy a new Nexus 10 or Nexus 7.
I personally like 8" Tablets. Will there be an 8 incher by then?
2) Get Nexus 7 again and wait till 2014 to buy a third generation. Would it live long enough to see Key Lime Pie ?
3) Get Nook Ebook Reader, the simple touch, get a better phone and just read books till then and use my phone for all the stuff.
4) Get a flight to USA, get two nexus 7 2, come back to the UK and then travel to Malaysia. [I wish I could afford such a lavish trip ]
You can understand how much I am willing to get a new Nexus 7 but at the same time, the disappointment of not having it till next year is killing me. I am just thinking of getting a Nook ebook reader and do everything else on my phone.
What do you suggest !!!
EDIT : I got my Nexus 7 and the sad part is , the top speakers do not work In another situation, one after another
I'm sure you can order a new Nexus 7 through a third party online.
Buy a used nexus 7 they are super cheap.

I checked third party sites which are giving out nexus 7 2 in the UK. They are taking 300 quids for 16 gb model which is very expensive. I guess I will get the old one used !

You can buy from amazon, then use mail forwarding company like shipito or comgateway.
That's what I've done, very cheap
What about buying a used one off eBay or other sites like Craigslist, etc.

hello again all of you,
for the price of nexus 7 2012, i was getting nexus 2013 in US through a friend so i skipped the old one and asked a friend to get it for me. now the problem is that her littler sister's coming who is only 12. her mom agreed to put nexus in her suitcase but the girl wont have any handcarry luggage. Now i m a bit uncertain again as i checked drop test video at youtube n few bumps wont turn new nexus 7 on. I know the aircarriers usually don't care about fragile stickers and throw things around? Thus there is a chance i might get nexus but not in working condition. So is there any way to make it shock proof?
should i go ahead n pay the 270$ price tag or wait. I have to sent the money to US so please reply quickly. thanks alot in advance
I personally wouldn't trust it in a bag with no proper packaging to secure it from bumps and bruises so to speak.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
Leave it packed in the box and wrap it in bubbles, it will be just fine. And put it in between some clothes in the middle of the suitcase. Or the girl can take it out and carry it in her pocket as her personal device.
When you think of it, delivery companies don't usually handle packages very well, and stuff still comes trough okay. Also whole crates of N7s travelled by ship from china and they are still fine.
I ordered a cell phone from amazon recently, there were now bubble wraps or anything, just an original box, wrapped in amazon carton, the phones box had some bruises, but the phone itself is fine. That was only from italy to slovenia but still.

Thank you for your help. Appreciated!
The nexus has been bought and it is arriving in a week now. So this is all decided.
I asked her Mom to open it and check for any defects in case any just to be on the safe side. Moreover, the girl is 11 or 12 so giving a device in her hands is a bit risky. Bubble packing makes sense and I already had thought about putting it in between clothes. I hope someone else tags along and can put it in carry on luggage. I will specially ask for bubble packing and keep it between clothes etc though.
In past, I have carried my devices(phones in socks, boxes etc) in plane for so many times and I never had a problem yet, once i bought a toy for my brother and it was in my luggage and it was slightly damaged/broken from its side however I was manage to fix the tires back(Big monster truck about 5 kgs)
Nexus has more weight than a normal phone and also it's very prone to drops as i saw the video on android police or android authority.
That just terrifies me!
Everything is fine, it came just fine and she just brought it without even opening it.
I had a faulty speaker though which started working on its own after some heavy gaming (Heat required for flux to melt a bit I guess )

Should I get this

I know there had been a couple of these threads so my apologies ahead of time. I an looking to buy my son a tablet for the holidays. In my research I was drawn to this one for its stock experience, specs, expandable storage, stylus, and gaming. Problem I am having is all the threads taking about cracks and poor WiFi. The tablet will almost exclusively be used in my house and mainly in the room with the router. My son is only 7 so he is not ready for some of the more intense games but I like the idea that he can grow with this and that the specs will carry over for a while. My plan would be to use my ouya controller at first then work my way to buying the nvidia controller if he is playing enough on it to warrant
I can get him a nexus 7 for $120 less or a galaxy tab 8.4 pro for $50 less but both have their shortcomings. I guess my question is are the complaints a vocal minority or is this tablet a great idea not truly realized? Thanks in advance for any thoughts
It's true the wifi is not top notch, but it works fine anyway. It simply does not have the best range it could possibly have. It's not a dealbreaker for me.
Cracked edges - no problems here, and I think this is a minority problem.
Overall I am pleased with the tablet. The battery life is OK. I love the stylus and the fact that I can stream games from my PC. Just the other day I was playing FIFA 14 from my PC with an XBOX 360 PC controller connected with an USB OTG cable.
My advice: go for it. The tablet is solid.
cheers

My son is only 7 so he is not ready for some of the more intense games but I like the idea that he can grow with this and that the specs will carry over for a while. My plan would be to use my ouya controller at first then work my way to buying the nvidia controller if he is playing enough on it to warrant
I can get him a nexus 7 for $120 less or a galaxy tab 8.4 pro for $50 less but both have their shortcomings. I guess my question is are the complaints a vocal minority or is this tablet a great idea not truly realized? Thanks in advance for any thoughts

I have just recently purchased the Shield and this was a unit that was a RMA replacement that the seller got when he sent his back because of the issue with cracks. I have been completely happy with the unit thus far and the fact that it is near stock is a huge benefit. I also have a Nexus 7 (2012) that my daughter uses and while it works well for her (8 years old) it doesn't have quickness that the Nvidia does. As for WiFi I have had no issues at all with mine, I know others here have but I have not.
I also have a couple of Samsung Galaxy Tab 3's in the house and they are garbage, I won't buy another Samsung product as I have had nothing but trouble with them.
Also in the coming weeks if you keep a close eye on Craigslist you can probably find someone selling a near new Nvidia as the lemmings part with them to go get the new Nexus 9 or the latest piece from Apple. That's what I did and saved quite a bit off retail.

I hear you, I am trying to low ball someone on Craigslist who says he just picked up an I pad air. Don't think he is biting but it's worth a shot.

I just got mine (LTE model) last night and seriously, I have never seen a tablet fly like this one does! It is beautiful, feels great in the hand, WIFI and LTE work great and it is just a pleasure to use. I'm not a serious gamer but really wanted it for media, art-making and everything else I can do with a fast and sleek android tablet, including some light gaming. I am not at all disappointed.
Rooting with towelroot was super simple and didn't require unlocking. It is sweeeet!

Calm down he was asking for 325 for a bundle but I dont want half of it. I offered 250 he can take it or leave it. If no one else offers anything he can choose if it is worth it to him. I sell a ton on Craigslist and can make my own decisions on if I like an offer or not.

Well folks can criticize low balling if they like but in my case I went low on a WiFi model and was very nice and respectful in my language when I made it. He politely turned me down but I was patient and after I noticed it was still listed (and re-listed) two weeks later I contacted him again and restated my offer with a kind note that "with Apple and Google releasing new devices it may be difficult to move a lesser known device like this at the price you're asking." He emailed me back within minutes asking if I could come up $20 and he'd throw in the 64GB MicroSD he bought for it. I kindly agreed since I was going to pay at least $30 for one on Amazon anyway.
My point is there is nothing wrong with low balling if you are respectful about it. If the person refuses and gets more for their device then great, many times they won't but if you're a d*ck they won't even take a low ball offer seriously.

As with any transaction there is a worth to the purchaser. I only said my offer was low ball because I would be getting the tablet, case, controller, and 32gb SD for $325 which is a great value retail. I did not intend on buying the remote, don't want the nvidia case, and have an SD. So to me I am buying a used tablet for the same price as retail but getting allot more in the end. I run the risk of the potential that the unit has issues and the struggle of getting nvidia to make good not being the original purchaser.

Best phone I ever had, what a shame........

On Saturday, October 15th, 2016, and around 2:30pm, me, my wife, my 16 month old daughter, and my 3 years old son, we were in our Van driving on Chain Bridge Rd, Mclean VA, trying to finish my run, canvassing for Hillary Clinton Presidential Campaign. Around 2:30pm, my wife tells me that she see smoke coming out of my side of the Van, while driving I look at my door and I see smoke coming out of my Galaxy Note 7 which was sitting in a pocket in the door, I immediately pulled over, and as soon as I opened the Van driver door, the whole area engulfed in flames, we all panicked, the left sleeve of my long shirt caught on fire, and I started feeling the burn on my left arm. I used a towel to put the fire out on my shirt, then poured a bottle of Gatorade on the burning portion of the Van door. My wife got out of the front passenger seat and ran around to get my 16-month-old girl, who was sitting behind me in her car seat. My wife panicked when she saw the flames catching up on my shirt, and she dropped my baby on the asphalt causing the bruise on her nose. I used 2 more bottles of Gatorade to put the fire out, then called 911. Within 20 to 30 minutes, the fire and rescue arrived, they tore up the driver door of my Van to make sure there was no hidden flames, then I was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Besides the burn, I suffered a heart Angina attack due to my Cardiac history and my Congestive Heart Failure. I was admitted at Inova Fairfax Hospital to monitor my heart, but later I had to leave against medical advice, and this was because I could not get anyone to pick up my wife and my 2 kids as my wife doesn't drive.
On Sunday, I had to take my daughter to Suburban Hospital as she was not acting normal. She was evaluated for head injury and was discharged with instructions to monitor her for 3 days.
So I'm assuming your phone performed fine before this whole incident?

I've been holding on to mine because I couldn't see parting ways with it, but it's not worth going through what you did, especially putting your family at risk. What disturbs me the most is that it wasn't even being used (or charged) at the time... and it still caught on fire. Taking it back to t-mobile tomorrow. What a shame.

I recommend you do return it immediately. After digging deeply on a lot of resources and info. that's not public and only available to a few people inside Samsung, the Chinese made battery in the V1 and V2 Note 7 is a time bomb. It can go off anytime. My Note 7 was a V2 retail and not a replacement. I pray that anyone who still holding on his Note 7 to power it off and return it immediately.

Even with all what happened, I'm still a pro-Samsung. I have an iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, and now I'm back to my Note 4. I don't see myself using any phone as my main phone other then a Note. I'm really sad that I lost my Note 7, I was like my 3 years old with a new toy. I hope that Samsung will correct things and comes back with a killer Note.

sorry to hear about but happened, glad no one was seriously injured. were you planning on sending it back because of the second recall or were you just planning on keeping it?

I never heard of the second recall prior to the incident, and I don't know if I'd of return it. I was so very happy with it and I am very sad I no longer have it.

i had a v1 note 7 coming from a note 4 and honestly i wasn't really impressed. i really was not a fan of the edge screen and mine was laggy as hell. also the battery life was horrible. i am glad i returned mine and now have a lg v20, it isn't as pretty as the note 7 but it's definitely one great phone at least in my opinion and that is coming from a long time samsung phone user.

i like it a lot. don't notice any lag while using apps and doing other stuff. my note 7 was very laggy. if you are looking for something that looks like a note 7 this phone definitely does not. it is lighter. aluminum removable back plate and battery. the sound is awesome(get free b&o earbuds through a rebate. can't submit till the 28th for t-mobile ). way better than the note. haven't really used the camera yet. the 2nd screen is cool. supposedly the bootloader on the t-mobile variant has been unlocked. guess a few are working on root. nougat 7.0 has additional security checks so they have to work around that. it shouldn't be to long till root is achieved and roms will be out i am sure. i was coming from a note 4 with i really liked. still have it. the v20 has all i am looking for.

I too am hoping that Samsung returns with a Note type of phone. Not having the S-pen at work is tough.
