This phone is a year and half old. It's never been rooted or unlocked bootloader. May aunt was using it all this time with stock firmware. It died one day when it started ringing. No prior issues whatsoever.
It wouldn't charge when plugged in and no sequence of power keys would bring it back (no LCD screen at all)
Here are things I did so far:
* Opened and got the battery out
* Used a different battery (charged) to see if I can get to Qualcomm FIL mode while I charge the OEM battery on a side
* After a combination of key presses windows 10 registered the port
* In Flash 2.0 in "Flash dead phone" option for Qualcomm refreshing got to the right port
* Downloaded the fix file and flashed successfully
* Tried rebooting phone by holding power per instructions... No LCD activity (just vibrations)
* Flashed again with another downloaded file again successfully
* Same problem, no LCD activity just vibrations
* OEM battery back in after changing
Here are things the phone does (without any LCD activity) and OEM battery back in:
* When trying to boot by holding the power, a few vibrations after a few seconds eventually leads back to Qualcomm FIL mode as if it automatically goes there because nothing can be booted.
* Holding volume down and power successfully goes into bootloader
* I can execute fastboot commands such as "devices" which does report device ID
At this point my guess would be that the LCD went bad even though it's not broken or seems damaged in any way. I would risk buying another but I'd like to see if I can somehow make it boot normally to make sure it's worth replacing the screen. Having it go into Qualcomm FIL mode when it should boot doesn't sound right. There is something else wrong with it.
Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Here is another thing I was able to do. Pressing vol up and power gets me to adb recovery. Here is what I get with FlashOne 2.0 when I do refresh on device info side:

I was able to unlock bootloader in fastboot. Device-info now confirms that it's unlocked. It's also reporting that this is a 720 device which tells me the fix I flashed was a Chinese version. I assume there is no US image to flash.
Still no LCD activity and I'm not sure how to confirm that the device is attempting to boot into system so that all I need is a new screen.

can you charge it using a different cable and charger with the other battery inside?
because, it's a far too common issue that the stock cable or charger on these phones could burn the charging port (daughter board) and even something else if things go wrong for some reason.
maybe you should try replacing that first, as the spare usb board is much cheaper than a replacement screen.

Good question. It looks like it doesn't charge because I'm not getting a light. It looked like it was when the battery was charged but now I see it doesn't. I'm going to leave it in charging overnight to see if it charges anything but if not, maybe that's where I start with it.
Just wish there was a way to diagnose it without LCD.

I have a relatively new (refurbished) nexus 7 (2012) that got a sudden fault of not turning on at all.
When plugged in I get the normal charging icons (central screen) as when the tablet is off.
Unplugged it does nothing with any button press: power, power + all combination of volume buttons.
Pledged in it does something only with power button - backlight turns on with dark background and flickering stripes of static.
Plugging into pc shows nothing.
It's been sent if for repair and they said the battery was ploughed in backwards! And they've swapped it around.
I don't get how it worked for a month if it was the wrong way around in the first place.
Sent back to me this week with no change!!
Suggestions of ways to resolve it my self?

You can open the back plate of the Nexus 7 yourself. It comes off fairly easily. You can then see if the charging port is clear of debris, if it might be slightly bent out of shape, or if somehow the battery is connected backwards... LOL. That seems highly unlikely to me.
What you are describing sounds more like sleep of death, or what happens when you drain the n7 battery completely. Something is wonky with the firmware and it "forgets" how to charge when the battery is too low. Doing this off the top of my head but I think what you are supposed to do is;
1 - plug in charger, which starts the charging animation.
2 - hold power+volume up+volume down to boot into the bootloader
3 - using the volume buttons to scroll, select reboot (or recovery)
4 - quickly unplug then plug back in the charging cable. Timing is key.
There is a thread in the Q&A forums with other methods if I didn't write that down right, or it if doesn't work.
Problem solved!
I popped open the back cover to find the connection from the battery to the main board nut fitting tightly all the way in (only by about 5mm). Pushed it in and secured it.

Just got a new battery because the old one died. Had the phone for around 4-5 months now after upgrading from the s3 that did the exact same thing. The phone is stock no custom Roms or root. It just dies, turns off. When turning the phone on it makes it to the galaxy logo and then powers off. I cannot make it to recovery mode and charging it does nothing. Plugging it in with no battery does not power the phone on either. Please help me figure this out.

Get your charging port checked. Maybe the way you put phones in your pocket or somewhere makes it go bad.
Things like this happen once, not twice brother.
Clean your charger and your charging port. Try connecting to a pc and see if it starts charging.
Or maybe your charger went bad.
Do press thanks if my posts are helpful

I can't get into recovery or download. When the splash screen comes up the phone turns back off... If it even makes it that far. This happened with the s3 as well and i looked it up on google as being "sudden death syndrome". The charger and port are fine, the phone is brand new.
Hold power
1-2 seconds goes by
See Samsung Galaxy screen
phone turns off
When its being charged it says 100% complete and then when i took out the charger it would instantly drop to 90%. After that if i sent a text or any message it would drop another 1% and this was the same deal with the s3 that died and would never turn back on. The phone is literally brand new and i just replaced the battery less than a week ago with a new one. The battery is just not holding charge but its brand new but the same thing happens plugged into USB with the charge cord and no battery

bump i need help this is the second phone thats done this same thing
Sorry if this is in the wrong place,
XDA has helped me out many times in the past, I've searched but found no concrete answers with this though:
I'm a truck driver and often charge my N4 on the go, probably doesn't help the battery, which for the last few months has begun to discharge in around 6 hours. I nearly bought a new battery but put it off then the phone died.
I plugged it into a in car (truck) charger on the 12v socket whilst at 5% and the charger started smoking. Pulled it out and found the phone was off and unresponsive (no surprise) with no red LEDs or otherwise.
Each time I did the following i also tried the volume down and power key or volume up and power key combinations with and without the charging cable plugged in and whilst holding down the buttons as well:
I plugged it in at home from a mains charger, nothing, overnight, nothing.
Also tried from the computer USB port, still nothing.
Bought a new battery, no change.
Bought a wireless charger in case the USB port fried: seemed to get warm but that could be the charger induction coils. Still no power on.
"Charged" the new battery externally with a spliced USB cable, nothing
"Charged" the new battery externally with a power supply at 0.5 ah and battery voltage went from 3.45 to 3.70 still no power on.
Repeated the above at 2.0 ah and put the battery voltage up to a maximum 4.5v for 10 mins - this time the backlight came on and would stay on until long press of the power button.
Then the phone got REALLY hot. I mean to the point of "something feels like its about to thermal runaway" hot. Pulled the battery and eventually it cooled down. If I plug the battery in now it gets hot on the WiFi/Bluetooth module first then spreads out over the board. As the power management chip is on the other side of the board to the WiFi module my question is: has this phone gone to hell? Is the chip overheating because its now fried or because its not getting the right power? Am I completely stupid and should get a phone that I can look after (Nokia 3210 anyone?!)
I had a N4 before this that packed up on me and I think the PMIC may have been the problem as well, only ever seen one post about it though that went unanswered.
Thanks for any suggestions, not trying to waste anyone's time or space.
Peace
UPDATE:
I'm also trying to resurrect an older N4 that had RLOD but when I tried to replace the battery I prised the battery connector off the pcb...ye. Should stick to not touching anything and not moving from one place. I soldered a pair of leads on to the contacts this evening to see if I get anything from it and I got a solid red led so thought I'd hook up more jumpers to the battery and go from there, in so doing I ripped the track off the pcb...no pad left to solder too and I cant find where the track runs to patch into it anywhere else. So I took the pcb off the phone I first posted to see what's underneath, and look what I found:

And also:
Judging by how much black blood these chips have bled and the exit wound on the PMIC I think its fair to say I have two useless unrecoverable phones, no hope of data recovery via JTAG and no working phone either. Hope this helps someone looking to see why their phone gets so hot and won't turn on!
Got phone from Bell on a 2 year contract about 8 months ago. When it arrived I put a glass protector on the screen and the Unicorn Beetle (the tougher one) on right away. I've been very careful with it since.
It's worked fine until I joined the Android N (via the Beta) where I found the battery drop quicker than normal.
While the phone was at around 30% charge, it suddenly turned off and would not turn back on.
I tried following these steps to fix it. No luck.
QUESTION: I called Huion to get it serviced since it's still under the one year warranty. They said that if the phone was rooted to not bother sending it in because they would know. Based on all my research, I have no idea how they would know. Would they really?
SYMPTOMS:
Phone does not show anything on the screen.
I bought a new charger and cable and have been doing different tests and have been getting no luck.
When I plug my phone into my computer I get this error:
"USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. Recommendation: Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly."

Once its plugged into my computer and i hold down the power button i hear my computer make a sound to indicate that a device was unplugged and replugged back in. But Nexus Root Toolkit or Vysor does not recognize the phone at all.
Nexus Root Toolkit does not detect my phone.
If your image when you turn it in is still unlocked and rooted or even locked and rooted they will know.

See if you can get the phone to bootloader mode. You can try the Nexus root toolkit to go back to 7.0 stock.

You need to charge it..
Powering off at the 30% mark is a known bug to some running 7.1.1.
It happened to me all I had to do was hook up the charger and let it charge then it will power back on.
This only happened to me once and some others as well

I had it plugged into three different chargers (including the official one), with three different cords, each for over three hours (often over night)
No luck.
You may have damaged the USB-C port. The only time I've seen that Windows error was when I damaged the USB-C port on my laptop with a slightly crimped USB-C connector that I didn't realized was damaged. After damaging the port, I changed cables to one that was not crimped, and I saw that error because of the damaged port. So I'm thinking it's possible you may have damaged the port on your phone, and it's not charging. Hard to say. Just trying to help. Look closely at the port with a bright light and see if you notice any damage.

You tell me? http://imgur.com/a/NlOxv
I have tried three different cords and chargers btw.
I can't tell from those photos.....probably no way to get a good enough shot. I was able to compare my damaged USB-C with an undamaged one, that was really the only way I could tell. I could see there was some slight but noticeable damage to some of the very thin wires surrounding the wafer in the middle of the port (best I can explain). Need a bright light to see well enough.
Hi All,
I easily rooted my RAZR M, and had relatively little difficulty unlocking the boot loader. However after installing CWM recovery I essentially bricked the phone, leaving it in a boot loop, which has drained the battery to ZERO! Whilst I was able to enter the boot loader menu, and fast boot for a time it is now impossible to enter even these simplified modes of operation.
I am relatively handy with a soldering iron, so I chose to create my own 'active' USB micro cable using these instructions. Whilst the cable that I created definitely didn't cause any damage to the phone, it didn't help the low power situation either!
I have now completely disassembled the phone and removed the Lithium Ion battery. It is my hope that I can temporarily solder positive and negative wires of the battery charging terminal (shown below) to the appropriate wires on a 3.8V (low amperage) charger. I understand that this is not the kosher way of charging Lithium batteries, however I figure if I just charge for five minutes the battery shouldn't explode!!!
