Should I update my verzion Pixel 2XL - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

I just got off a Pixel 2 XL from walmart with build date Nov 3 and Android 8.0.0 with Sep 5, 2017 patch date. Is there any version of android I should sideload to instead of latest to get battery life versus blue shift display issue to be sorted out.
I am not looking for all the latest features but I would appreciate the android version that provides max battery life for me as well sorts out slight display problems (no boosted/natural options in display ATM).
Also was there a bootloader unlock discovered for this old of Pixel 2 XL yet?

Is it a verizon 2xl? If so no known unlock. If it's a Google version - yes both are google phones but branding as Google version vs VZW version - then unlocked bootloader is easily done.

Just let the phone take the latest update and you should be good. If you want to unlock the bootloader you'll need to know whether it is a Verizon or Google variant. The Verizon bootloader cannot be unlocked yet. Go to this link http://www.imeipro.info/check_lg.html and plug in your IMEI number. The buyer code and buyer name will confirm which unit you have.

Nexus build dates?

Morning!
I have a NExus 10 that I bought used and it probably a release date device. I also have one that was bought on Dec 19.
Would they be different build dates? Just curious.
My primary was the used one but I swapped it with the newer one becasue of a small scratch on the screen of the older one.

T320XXU1BNI1 update for Tab pro 8.4 wifi

I have get an T320XXU1BNI1 update for my tablet tonight. Anyone knows what is new in this update?
Thanks a lot.
Interested as well. I doubt if it is the 4.4.4 we are wishing for. I am glad this is a sign tablet is not fully abandoned.
It's 4.4.2 with a build date of September 3rd I think I read on sammobile.

What were the improvements though?
So I emailed Sammy UK's support desk to ask for the changelog for this update, their reply was:
'In regard to your recent email, I am unable to provide you with a change log for the firmware update as the updates cover a wide number of improvements for the device.'
Unbelievable.......... Samsung have got to have the worst, least helpful, most secretive after-sales support ever.
I really should learn my lesson and buy a different brand of kit, but the price and spec of Samsung's gear is usually the best fit for my needs in terms of price, spec and availabilty.
They really do suck though....

well Nexus 9 was just announced today, so we can all teach Samsung a lesson by dumping our GTP's and switching to Nexus

At what cost? You could probably get $225 for your Pro 8.4 after shipping, compared to $399 + Taxes for the N9...
This device depreciated fast
Its sad to see theres so poor development for such a powerfull (and expencive) device. I had an htc mytouch slide, an lg g2x an htc sensation whomis like 5 years old and still have an awesome development team including venom, htc one actual device with awesome dev teams too. I bought this galaxy tab pro thinking it was powerfull so means cool and nice dev activity but seems like it will stay stock 4 ever. ?

You won't get that. I just picked up a factory refurb with 90 day warranty for $199. I think $150 to $175 is the max you could expect used at this point.

i don't think i will sell my GTP 8.4 just yet. the resolution and PPI of the Nexus 9 are both worse than the GTP 8.4.
(288 vs 359)
but since Samsung doesn't support this tab as well as I'd like, I might have to root it and try CM11 or something.

Yep, and with Samsung basically abandoning it after releasing the S line of tablets, I feel like I just threw away money on the thing. Had I known all this would happen, I would have held on to my 2012 model Nexus 7 until the Nexus 9 came out. Maybe I'll just buy the Nexus 9 when I get my tax refund. I do know for sure I will never spend another cent on a Samsung product.

I used to have CM 11 on it. Some of the streaming apps, like Flixster, wouldn't stream movies I had purchased, all I could do was download and watch them that way. I'll probably stay on stock ROM until I see if we get any Android L ROMs. Or I might just say screw it, stick with stock ROM for a little while, then get Nexus 9 when I get my tax refund.
Apart from losing some space to the bloatware that I haven't got round to clearing out, I have absolutely no problems staying with a rooted stock ROM on my GTP 8.4 (which kinda goes against the grain for me) as I do like some of Sammy's TW features
I rooted with TowelRoot (just to keep Knox happy in the short term) and have added the Fast Launcher mod by SkywalkerZ (although I still switch between this and Nova Prime) and the quad-multiview mod by jazzespresso, and to be fair it flies along quite happily giving up to 8hrs sceen on time for run-of-the-mill use (except gaming)
My only gripe is the apparently weaker wifi signal, although it may just be how the tab displays the signal level as it rarely drops below 54Mbps (39Mbps being the lowest i've seen) on my network and usually sits between 65 and 72Mbps with 3 - 4 bars of signal (my S3 shows similar speeds but always 4 bars of signal)
I'm annoyed to have been shafted by Sammy once again by buying a device that they pretty much drop within 6 months (same happened to my Galaxy W i8150), but the GTP is damn good tablet with a great screen, good all round spec and decent performance.
I won't be rushing to swap it as I only paid £200 (which was the same as I paid for my Nexus 7 2012 new) and I very much doubt that the Nexus 9 upon release will represent the same value for money. I'm not saying that the Nexus 9 wont be a fantastic device - just wont be as much of an affordable bargain as the GTP, and it's STILL crippled by non expandable memory.
For me, if the GTP gets at least 4.4.4 and ideally 5.0 I'll be happy enough for the couple of years that I plan on running the GTP (barring any butter-fingers disaster or premature hardware failure) before upgrading tablets again.
How extrat kernel? Downgrade kernel for root tolweroot. Now i want back original kernel tar, odin.

Really, that bug has been fixed? That's great news... but I'm in Canada. I don't know if I should wait for a North American update or just go ahead and grab the UK version of the ROM.

You might check your signal again. When I got the Pro 8.4 a couple of days ago & setup the wifi connection, I was disappointed as it was around 39 Mbps even tho it was setup for the 5g band.
Then after it registered on my mind that I was seeing BOTH bands, 5g, 2.4g, it appears that the Pro 8.4 switches between bands as one time it was connected to the 2.4g band. Told the Pro to forget the 2.4g band so that the connections was always on the 5g band.
After a "slow" start I now see that the connection is at 433Mbps a moment ago connected to my ac capable router. I'm OK with the connection speed as it is even faster than my Nexus 7, 2013 connected to the 5g band; connect speed is at 160 Mbps for the Nexus.

Google Pixel 2/2 XL Discussion Thread (Hong Kong)

Dear All,
Since the Pixel 2/2 XL is not officially released in Hong Kong. Where are you ordering the 2/2 XL? Anyone already have a grey market 2/2 XL already? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I ordered mine from UK Google Store. I have family that can bring it over when it arrives in UK. My order is scheduled for 28-29 Nov ship out to UK address.
Enjoy your Pixel.
I just got a update from Google and my order had been bumped up from 28-29 Nov shipment to 21-23 Nov shipment.
good for you.
I couldn't wait and ordered from the us store, been using it for two weeks, so far so good. The only thing the UK one is better is because of the three pin plug.
I have seen some resale of 2xl online at prixx.xxx.hk, which are more than $10000. I certainly won't buy from them
The one I bought from the us Google store is only us$949, without tax, and can be shipped to Hong Kong by some mail forwarding company within 5-6 days after they receive the phone from Google, at a price of only hk$48. This is considerably cheaper than ordering from the UK store which charges a lot for tax
Hey so I found a group of people in a Chinese forum that have discovered a way to enable diag mode on the pixel 2 XL. Would any of you be able to translate for me or inquire about what steps they took?

That's great. HK Google Store won't sell it so we have to order from overseas Google Store. Mainly the plug that's why I ordered from UK. They ship date got bumped up so I'll get in sooner. VAT was the bad part. Oh well...I just hope the bugs can be ironed out with this batch.
US$949 = HK$7400
£899 = HK$9200
That's $1800 difference. You can buy almost 6 plugs from the UK store

Lucky me I'm not paying for my birthday present this time but turns out it's a Christmas present now since it probably won't get delivered to Hong Kong from UK till December from the relatives. If you read the entire thread you'll see that they reference a build for the pixel 2 and 2xl and specifically state that they were going to NOT post it in the forums but that it's available in the group. I can highlight the page if you need.
Also it's not a bootloader it's a source built rom with the -eng and -diag tags forced during build.

If I buy Pro 3, will get current software

I have a Pro 3 and thinking of buying another for backup and testing. Maybe try flashing 7.0 or 8.0 ROM.
Originally, when I bought Pro 3 in November 2016, there were issues fixed by at least 2 OA Updates.
IF I buy one now, is software up to date?
Know that Le Eco US website down.
After a year, my current Pro 3 is still working great. Yes, it would have been great to have upgraded software, but apps seem current and works fine.
Bought it for $249, so very happy. Saw new on Amazon for $199.
Tempted to buy.
Any current information you can give me would be appreciated.

No, since LeEco is pretty much dead now, in North America and China. However, new Le phones are being released which is hilarious to me. A phone with 6 gigs of RAM with a Snapdragon 821 stuck on Marshmallow. lmao
Wait for Black Friday. You might get one for under $150.

How hard is it to learn to flash one of the ROM'S. I am technically experienced, but never done it, so don't want to brick phone.
Any hand holding around to help?

I think the le pro 3 is the best phone for flashing. Just tick OEM unlock in dev options. Then open the bootloader with ADB and flash twrp. After this you are ready to flash what you want. In comparsion to a Samsung or Sony its pretty easy.

I guess my phones region is EU.

Nope. Totally stock and nothing has been changed.
I also am on January security update with stock at&t version NO sign of an update as of yet though I read that at&t is currently updating the G6 to Oreo. Nothing here yet, Soon it will be a year that Oreo was released this is poor for both LG and at&t with a so called flagship phone that I paid top dollar for.
Got my G6 today and several large updates were applied to Nougat and the last one, around 1800

All running well and the whole process worked without issue.

Different chipset, Qualcom MSN8996 Snapdragon 821 Quad core Kyro @ 2x2.35 & 2x1.6 w/Adreno 530 which was last year's LG flagship, against what is considered a mid-range phone. Was quite positive when I heard LG were setting up the update unit but with hindsight feel that's probably targeted at the G7 and onwards.
Will probably see if it drops this month before downloading the Oreo update ref'd above, but it's frustrating. Seem to recall the G4 and G5 got pretty quick updates.
